— Open Blog Not the ‘70Â’s teevee show numbnuts (though thereÂ’s always a threat that it could happen, so remain vigilant.) Tonight we have the usual grab bag of grabasstic unrelated items.
Item #1: We’ve all heard the well-known saying “even a broken clock is right twice a day.” Not that this link has anything to do with that, but everyone here’s favorite cable network, MSNBC, teamed up with Moody’s.com and put together an Adversity Index. It’s a clickable map of the U.S. that tracks the economies of all 57 states from 1995 to the present, monthly, indicating whether they’re in recession, expanding or somewhere in between. For each month you can click on a state and view additional statistics along with still more statistics for key cities in each state. You can also click a bar at the top which triggers an animation of the map showing how recessions and expansions spread and so forth over the years. It also has pretty colors and a wicked soundtrack by Tool. Or at least it should have.
Item #2: The always innovative food industry is constantly innovatively trying to make meal preparation more convenient and entertaining for us. One of the ways they’ve done so in the past is via pressurized canned spray foods which we’ve all come to know and love, such as spray cheese, whipped cream, string and so forth. Now they’ve introduced a new product I’m sure you’ll love: Spray Pancakes. “So what” you ask. That simply shows your lack of imagination. But that’s why I’m here to guide you. If they’ve started moving into the breakfast market, what other delights may await us in the near future? Yes, it’s just a matter of time until we get SPRAY BACON!!! Dare to hope my friends, for we live in a time of miracles.
TonightÂ’s sponsor and some music below the foldÂ…

Cuffy Meigs has already fired off one pranky missive to flag@whitehouse.gov, the government's new informant/narc headquarters.
If you have a funny one, print it here.
Here are some Traitors spreading "fishy" information about the Trojan Horse of the public option, by the way. It is your patriotic duty to report these Malcontents and Subversives to your friendly government Vigilance Committee.
Swastikas: In this video, Reichswhore Nancy Pelosi claims town hall protesters are "carrying swastikas."
She is an immensely stupid woman. Not only is her claim that people are "carrying swastika" standards into these town meetings absurd on its face, but her implication is even more absurd: Bear in mind she thinks the proof these protesters are hired by astroturf firms is that they're carrying swastikas.
Right. When you hire a bunch of people to pose as ordinary citizens at town halls, of course you give them giant swastikas to carry in on their shoulders. So they'll blend in.

On the other hand, there are real mobsters, who aren't at all angry at Obama, but rather... do little favors for him.

— Purple Avenger You know some heavy shit is going down when the ear wax connoisseur Rudd draws the ire of a hot babe like Burnett.
..."There is a serial killer in Australia and we are going to put a picture up so we can see who it is," a stern-faced Burnett said during a segment on CNBC on Tuesday.I'm guessing the hordes of camels in question are probably non-native species. Florida also has this sort of problem...only we have it with somewhat less benign critters like Anacondas and Boa Constrictors. A few months ago someone doing mowing along I95 not too far north of where I live struck a big 12-16' Boa with the mower. The Florida wildlife folks used to relocate and try to find homes for them, but once they realized there were breeding populations out there rather than isolated individuals, they shifted to a shoot on sight policy.A large photo of Rudd was then shown...

— Ace Sounds that way.
Obama wasn't crazy when he tried to rush socialism on us in one package. Cap and tax was his funding scheme for health care (and expanding the government generally). He was counting on those billions levied on evil energy producer (and then passed on to citizens, but in a hidden, plausible-deniability manner) to fund his spending initiatives.
Without all those sweet, sweet not-well-hidden taxes on the middle class, he is left with the options of either 1) exploding the deficit still further or 2) reneging on that pledge that is oh so important to him, to not tax the middle class further.
Defeat one and you're a long way towards defeating them all.

— Ace Okay, it's not quite fascism, but it goes so well with fishy.

"I am not aware of any precedent for a president asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed 'fishy' or otherwise inimical to the White House?s political interests," John Cornyn of Texas wrote US President Barack Obama."As Congress debates health care reform and other critical policy matters, citizen engagement must not be chilled by fear of government monitoring the exercise of free speech rights," he wrote.
"I can only imagine the level of justifiable outrage had your predecessor asked Americans to forward emails critical of his policies to the White House," Cornyn wrote, referring to former president George W. Bush.
"I suspect that you would have been leading the charge in condemning such a program -- and I would have been at your side denouncing such heavy-handed government action," he wrote.
Cuffy Meigs fires off an email to the Secret Fish Police, using an exit line used by a commenter (Rob Crawford) here: "Is this where I report them?"

— Ace In fairness, he didn't make the cake, of course. (He has no practical skills enabling him to do anything except read a TelePrompter.)
And yet, I'm not in the mood for fairness.
Behold, Carvel's newest creation, Fudgy the Malignant Narcissist:

Donald Trump just wrote me to say "A bit much, isn't it?"
The DC NBC affiliate goofs on the cake, but must of course spend much more time assuring us how wonderfully stylish he and his whole family are.
Because you really can't say something barely negative about the President's cake without piling on the compliments to offset such a slander. That would be disrespectful to the President, and the media has a long history of acting respectfully for the President, going all the way back until January 20th 2009.
Thanks to Slublog.
Two Words... for trolls asking, "Why even mention this at all?"
Two words:
Plastic.

— Ace LifeNews crows:
wo days after LifeNews.com exposed an Associated Press article that mislead its readers on the abortion funding contained in the government-run health care plans, AP has backtracked. The news service is now reporting that the bills Congress is considering will result in taxpayer-funded abortions.AP features a new article today with the headline, "Gov't insurance would allow coverage for abortion."
Reporter Ricardo Alonsozaldivar writes, "Health care legislation before Congress would allow a new government-sponsored insurance plan to cover abortions, a decision that would affect millions of women and recast federal policy on the divisive issue."
That's a far cry from the weekend story where AP writer Charles Babington wrote a "fact check" that claimed it is "not clear" if abortion funding is included in the legislation.
"Not clear" is a significant category of bias by the press. Whenever the press realizes that a lack of clarity helps Democrats, they claim the facts are too impenetrable and obscure to make any sort of clear determination.
When the facts favor Democrats, they report the facts.
When the facts favor Republicans, they either bury the facts or claim they've lost all ability to play their self-appointed role as The Deciders on the facts.
On the other hand, NBC's experts were willing and able to declare Iraq to be in a "state of civil war." Note that in that case, a clear determination could apparently be made.
