ACE OF SPADES PET THREAD:
It is with a heavy heart I report on the passing of Dukie, our believed little feline companion, almost thirteen years old. She was featured in the Pet Thread on December 9, 2017. She crossed over the rainbow bridge on March 19. Her original name was Duke, which is what’s on the memorial pawprint we received today from my vet. We thought the litter were all boys. Dukie and her sisters, Princess and Tammy (originally Duke, Prince and Tommy), all succumbed from cancer. She had gone from 8 pounds to five in about three months; she was a wisp of her former self and had stopped eating a few days before she died. The pic attached is the last pic taken of her. I miss that little furball terribly...
George, Terry & Laurence
So sorry to hear of your loss. Dukie looks like he was a fighter until the very end. A handsome cat and quite the obit you wrote. Once again condolences on your loss.

Hello and thank you for the pet thread. This is Peanut. He’s been on the pet thread once before, but this pic was just too cute not to share. Peanut is my sisters dog. He’s a great dog but an awful swimmer. Seems weird since he half golden retriever. It seems the poodle part took over his athletic ability but nonetheless he’s sweet and nice to have around. Dogs make life worth living. Thanks, Jennifer, AKA Peanut’s Auntie
I bet you are one of those kind of Auntie's who spoils the bejeebers out of the "kid" and then sends him home to be with his parents. I know your kind. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Reuben had a rough start to life. Out of a small litter of 3 he was the only one to survive birth and was promptly rejected by his mother. He was hand raised but became an undersized and sickly kitten albeit with ears at least two sizes too big for his head. The breeder was honest and told me about his dodgy heart, breathing difficulties and the need for a "nip and tuck†procedure on his eyelid. Reuben was obviously the one for me.
One year on and after plenty of TLC and great veterinary work he has become a handsome, affectionate and greatly loved member of the family. - John
So the kitteh with large ears met the Moron with a large heart. Quite the adoption story John. Reuben has turned into quite the looker. What an uplifting story. Thanks.

Once again MW in Texas graced my In-Box with several photos of God's wonderful creatures. It's one thing to rescue a dog or a cat or hamsters. But horses and mules that's just awesome. Love the decorations.

Hi MisHum..here are our two newest if you want to put it in the pet thread.
Teddy and Ginger are two long hair dachshunds who we rescued from a shelter. The owner had passed away and she was wheelchair bound. The dogs loved to ride in her lap as she wheeled around. Ginger is the one on the left and Teddy on the right. Teddy is 13 and Ginger is 15 and she's in pretty bad shape. She has a very bad fungal infection on her skin and has lost most of her hair. She is terribly malnourished. Teddy is in better shape and is a total lover! They have always been together so our goal is to adopt them out together. We won't separatethem. Some prayers for little Ginger would be appreciated. - JewellsJewells, that is such a cute couple. Of course the Horde will pray for healing and placement. It looks like retirement is helping God's little critters. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Again. Dottie has been on the pet thread before but this pic shows her true personality. More wine or change the channel? It’s a hard life here for poor old Dottie. Thanks for the pet thread.Yours Truly,Dottie’s 24/7 Caregiver
Dottie into the K9 Valu-Rite? I know she didn't open that bottle as doggehs always complain they don't have thumbs. Cute photo thanks Caregiver.

Hi, meet our new kitty. She was another stray that showed up one day. Pepper enjoys being petted and held. She is a very sweet cat. Thank you! - ALH
No thanks necessary ALH. You are a regular contributor and the Horde and I appreciate that. Congrats on your new addition. Hopefully, you'll have many happy years together.

This is Stella doing what she does best.
Stella came to us,I admit, over my objections. Actually, I forbid it. A daughter working as a vet tech wanted to save her life. Her owners wanted her euthanized because they wanted a puppy. Stella, though blameless, was in terrible trouble.
My position was that I've got 2 dogs, both rescued, and another pair living here with another kid of mine, and no amount of effort possible by me would make any difference in the number of blameless dogs at risk of their lives.
Ok, well, just for a week then or she'll die tomorrow, came the answer. Someone else will step up, was the promise. You can guess how that turned out.
Stella is a good dog. It was 6 months before she uttered a sound. I thought she was mute. Evidently she was just afraid. She's probably about ten years old. I've never seen her do a single bad thing except sleep too much. Her former owners think she's dead. The vet charged them for the job. I pity the puppy that replaced her. - Twelve
Another Moron with a big heart. What started out to be one heck of a sad and maddening story sure had a happy ending. The former "owners" of Stella should be prohibited from ever having another pet or reproducing children.

Hello!
This is Millhouse, aka Milly. Here he has claimed my mom's jacket for his own. Each time she visits he has to rub himself all over her purse so she remembers properly which overlord to worship. He came from Seattle Humane and is turning 10. He keeps himself spry by threatening the 100lb dog, attempting to steal dairy products (guard your cheese), and demanding playtime just before the humans go to bed each night. Also a handsome fellow as you can see. - Funsize
Hopefully your mom is not allergic to Milly. It certainly appears he enjoys rolling around and rubbing clothing. Another rescue pet. Pretty awesome, looks like your heart is Funsize as well.

Well, that's a wrap folks. An unplanned theme became quite apparent. Contrary to misguided beliefs, the Horde have huge hearts and do not want poor defenseless creatures to be homeless or worse. I'm proud of you folks.
If you have something you wish to contribute to the Pet Thread please contact us at petmorons at gmail dot com.
God willing, the creeks don't rise and the hamsters don't burn the place down we'll be back next Saturday. Have a nice week!

Finished scrubbing down the pens in the kennel. Put the dogs in the pen in crates. Take the floor mats outside and power wash them. Take out the 5 gallon water bucket, empty, clean and refill. Remove the beds, sweep and vacuum the floor, fence and wall. Use a floor scrubber (actually a carpet cleaner) to wash the floor. Put everything back and return the dogs to the pen.
Repeat for all six pens. Then hand out bones (basted cow kneecaps) to everyone. Note: these cause our dogs to become deaf.

The average fart contains about 7% of the odorless but flammable gas known as methane. Namely, rising concentrations of methane in the atmosphere from Human farts and burps are recognized as a cause of global warming, and methane is at least 25 times more effective than carbon dioxide in effecting climate change in the atmosphere.
Humans are reported to emit about 1 liter per day of flatulent gases, about 1% of our body volume. Reports of the methane contributed by the global flatulence of humans suggest an emission less than about a half-a-million metric tons per year. Global human biomass is about equal to that of cattle, but methane emissions from humans are dwarfed by the contributions from grazing animals, now thought to exceed 120 million metric tons per year. If you hope to reduce your impact on the Earth’s climate, do not keep farting and reduce your consumption of beef, which will reduce the emissions of methane from cattle and humans. Your spouse, partner, or office mate is a major contributor to climate change and if we all eat less meat, especially beef, there would be much less methane added to Earth’s atmosphere.

Forgot to update about the homeless guy with the springer in Seattle. They were approved for the apartment. It needs to be inspected by some bureaucrat before they can move in. He got his stimulus chck so they moved into an extended stay motel to wait. It's been two weeks and they are still waiting. Money has run out and they are trying to figure out what to do. He seems to have a good case worker and may be reimbursed for part of this. Just maddening.

Anyway, he seems happier now, even though I can't help worrying about him. He comes in for his morning snack and his fresh water, but as soon as he's done, he wants back out. He mostly stays in the back yard, but if I try to go out and get him, he skedaddles. I'd hoped he'd come back in yesterday during the rain, but while he disappeared somewhere, he wouldn't come in until snack-time this morning.
::sigh:: Ah, well. I'll keep doing what I can for him, and he does purr and head-butt when he comes in, so I guess he likes me as well as he ever did (not all than much).
Be nice if a lonely kitten wanders in and wants the friendly lap Ghost never cared for.

Earlier this week, we got visited by a b&w presumably-feral feline. Our golden guy Charlie, self-appointed territorial guardian (since the dog was gone) tore after the feral and chased it up to the property edge. We were concerned Charlie might go under the fence and out on the road, but he came back pretty soon.
Then, about sunrise a few days ago, from snug in bed asleep we hear this huge ruckus, and things crashing. I thought Charlie and Onyxia the black were tangling again, and maybe that was part of it, but when I got up to check, I found stuff knocked to the floor off a desk, and, behind the desk, on the west windowsill, there's Charlie, growling and hissing loudly, nose-to-nose (through the glass) with the feral. The feral was growling back. When I removed Charlie from the window. Onyxia ran up to take his place. Feral left soon, and has not been seen (but maybe heard) since.
So, yesterday, Charlie had a bad front leg. I hadn't noticed it when I fed them, but saw him limping badly after he'd been outside a while. Thought, maybe he'd hurt himself crashing across the desk to gripe at the feral the day before. Seemed like his upper leg was sore, nothing hurt in the paw. He winced when we held his leg, but not broken-leg wince. We worried for the afternoon, but by evening he seemed to be just barely favoring the hurt leg, and today he's just about normal. Whew.
I'd put out a live trap for the feral, but I'd be afraid of catching a skunk.
____
AAAannnd, just as I finished typing the above, there's a great caterwauling out front. Charlie and the feral are totally entangled, fighting. Milady and I, and Onyxia, all rush out. I don't think my yelling chased off the feral, but there were several crows (!!) who rushed up and started yelling, and that might've helped. Feral ran off. Seems Charlie's gimpy leg was healed enough to fight! (Thank you, crows, I said.)
Charlie and Ony came in, and suddenly Ony is chasing after Charlie. I suspect she got confused by the whole scene, as if Charlie was the enemy rather than the feral. Maybe she has taken a liking to that bad boy?
Anyway, peace has returned. For the moment.

I'm sorry about your black lab and the others whose beloved pets died or were put to sleep recently. I went with my son to put our poor emaciated and dehydrated cat, Tess, to sleep yesterday. Nice vet said he thought that he could feel a large lump in her so it must have been cancer. She was having such a hard time the past week My son was Tess' favorite although she was sweet to all of us. She used to sit in son's lap and purr and gaze lovingly up at him with an head stretched up. Son has never been with me when I've put animals to sleep before and spouse hasn't either because of work schedule and son has cried quite a bit. It's a lousy way to spend part of the day.

Thanks. My son is very good with animals. If it weren't so expensive we would consider sending him to vet school if he did well in college. So far he is although I know vet school is very competitive I think son has hugged me more in the past day than he has in the past month.
The young vet was very sweet considering he had never seen this cat before and when he took her out of the cat carrier he said, "I love tabbies."
