"Shut Up Culture" Takes on Dissent Over Campus "Rape Culture"

So Cornell student Julius Kairey wrote a thoughtful, reasoned column in the campus newspaper pointing out how the movement to end 'rape culture' on campus has seriously eroded the due process rights of students.

But the belief that rape must be prevented by "any means necessary" has been used to justify the elimination of key protections for students accused of rape in campus judicial systems. Some want the claims of the alleged victims of rape to be accepted as true, and not scrutinized in a fair legal proceeding. Just two years ago, Cornell stripped those accused of sexual offenses of the right to retain an attorney in University proceedings and the right to cross-examine their accusers. A student accused of a sexual offense at Cornell is now not able to directly ask the person who is making a potentially life-ruining accusation a single question about the incident. This is an inexcusable erasure of the fundamental right to confront one's accuser, a right that has existed for all of our country's history. Such rights are not superfluous. They protect us against arbitrary action by those who hold the levers of power.

And outrage!! from the usual campus suspects ensued blaming Kairey for fomenting sexual assault as well as the newspaper for disrespecting rape survivors by having the temerity to even publish his trigger of a column:

We disagree with the decision to publish "The Truth About 'Rape Culture,'" by Julius Kairey '15. Kairey blatantly disrespected a sensitive subject by reducing and delegitimizing the scarring experiences of survivors. This newspaper erred in publishing this article and should now also take responsibility for the harmful, triggering effects that articles like these cause.

...Those, like Kairey, who have the power to create change by advocating for survivors instead choose to ignore their voices, erase their rights and refuse to hold perpetrators accountable..

Now to even disagree with those obsessed with 'rape culture' makes you a cheerleader for sexual assault as well as a common thought criminal.

Because Animal Rights Activists Hate NYC's Horse-Drawn Carriages

They've come up with this electric, truck-sized 'eCarriage' to replace it. It only travels at 5mph and costs a mere $150,000+.

At the New York Auto Show last week, a very large electric vehicle--effectively a larger-than-life electric scale model of a Brass Era touring car--was shown to the public by NYClass.

The animal-rights advocacy group has long advocated for the removal of horse-drawn carriages from Central Park on the grounds of animal cruelty.

It proposes that the 68 carriages now operating in and around the park be replaced with the so-called eCarriage, which would operate at 5 mph in the park, to replicate the open-air horse carriage experience for tourists as closely as possible--minus the clip-clop and the odor of horse manure.

The prototype electric car shown last Thursday is the size of a seven-passenger full-size SUV, seats eight, weighs 7,500 pounds, and rides on 26-inch truck tires. It uses a number of existing components from other vehicles, including the Ford F-450 heavy-duty commercial truck.

Kate Humble: We don't value food because it's not expensive enough

But of course one of the long proclaimed 'freedoms' of socialism was freedom from hunger. But then once food became plentiful and cheap, the new complaint becomes that we just don't appreciate it enough. Which is a big clue that it's really all about control and thinking the proper way.

Prager University: Jonah Goldberg Explains 'Social Justice'

And the noxious assumptions embedded into the term itself.

And fittingly Vox just published this article by Matt Yglesias: Beyond the Laffer Curve - the case for confiscatory taxation

Here he basically admits that it's not about the money - it's all about social engineering. And control.

The Laffer Curve - the idea that tax cuts can sometimes increase tax revenue - is one of the most influential and widely debated ideas in the past two generations of American politics. Beloved by the right and despised by the left, one thing that both sides have tended to agree on is that knowing what side of the curve we're on should be a key driver of tax policy.

But in an era of surging inequality, it's time to revisit that assumption. Maybe at least some taxes should be really high. Maybe even really really high. So high as to useless for revenue-raising purposes - but powerful for achieving other ends.

First Time in a Drive-Through Car Wash

Full disclosure: When I was very little (and normally fear-less) for some reason drive-thru care washes absolutely terrified me. I think it was a combination of the noise, shaking, and movement that convinced me that we were being attacked and eaten by robots or maybe possibly some kind of sea creature. More often than not I would end up in the back seat in tears attempting to curl up into the foot rest area.

In time I came to accept the car wash attacks and no longer fear them. These days I now use that time to check my email and toss trash into the backseat area. But I have to admit that every time I go through one the holy-shit-I'm-being-eaten part of my amygdala still twitches a bit.

Human Barbie is Kind of a Dumb Bitch

And yes thanks to modern materials and plastic surgery this is a real person.

And it turns out that Human Barbie, Valeria Lukyanova, believes you can subsist off of sunshine and air alone (Breatharianism) and is very concerned about racial miscegenation and mongrelization.

Ethnicities are mixing now, so there's degeneration, and it didn't used to be like that. Remember how many beautiful women there were in the 1950s and 1960s, without any surgery? And now, thanks to degeneration, we have this."

And no Human Ken Doll doesn't like her much either. He considers her an unserious dress-up-doll poseur as well as his arch-nemesis.

"She's a cute girl.I don't really get her. I don't get why people think she's so interesting. She has extensions. She wears stage makeup. She's an illusionist.Unlike me, who has spent nearly $150,000 permanently transforming myself into a human Ken doll, Valeria just plays dress up. But as soon as you wipe away all that makeup, she's just a plain Jane and there's absolutely nothing special about her."

Repost for certain morans.  But also Grammie Winger's reference was absolutely accurate.  So upon Christ's death on the cross, there is pagan non-Christian evidence not only of unnatural darkness but a massive earthquake throughout Judea that razed many structures.  Cheers fellow morans!!

Troyriser, DLamp and anyone else interested in the contemporaneous pagan record of Christ's existence, here is the evidence of the very strangedarkness that fell after he died on the cross:

About the middle of the first century, roughly 50 AD, the pagan Thallus, in a fragment preserved by Julius Africanus, argued that the abnormal darkness that accompanied the death of Christ was a purely natural phenomena and coincidence...

This comes from the author William Durant, from the book Caesar and Christ, in his 11 volume series on the history of Western civilization (i.e., not written from a Christian defense or point of view), and appears to be sourced from Julius Philippus in Cicero, De off.

Will repost in ONT if this is not it. Cheers!!

Consider the phrase: "your own life." -- see the word 'own' in there, matty, you fucking dumbass?  It is called 'your own life' because everyone is supposed to own theirs -- and you are not supposed to own anyone's life other than your own life.   Get it?   Nah, you are too fucking greedy and too fucking stupid to get it.

There are reasons why certain people are the voluntary new protagonists of the slavery party, and most of those reasons are ugly.  matty is a truly disgusting, vile piece of shit.

82 More than half of all rape accusations are fake. Fun fact: if crazy and cruel people are handed a consequence-free tool that they can use to destroy the lives of their enemies -- they tend to use it. Most women would never lie about rape. But the ones that do, do it a lot. Cause there's no penalty.

Some of the worst injustices have come from cases where the woman never reported anything to either the campus or local police and then filed a complaint months or years later.

In that case you have absolutely no physical evidence or contemporaneous accounts from witnesses. It's purely a he said/she said situation and the fact that she feels upset now is enough proof to convict him of something.

I'm going to say good night now,I've been up since 7, did my roots & spent over 8.5 hours outside pruning roses & trying to clean up leaves & crocus foliage. I filled four 30 gallon large leaf bags with dead rose canes. I'm about 80% done with pruning. I have roses to plant but can't because we have no water outside. I have irrigation system. I called early this morning to ask that owner of company that installed it to come here & turn water on. I used neighbor's water to soak roses. I was fine until I stopped & came in house. I'm ready to fall asleep, I have to call to have water on tomorrow because I'm having neck injection Friday & again on May 9. I won't be able to do anything outside this weekend. Good Night, Horde!

155 Pretty soon most people will be getting their college education at home for the price of an internet connection. As soon as businesses wake up and realize the degrees they want to see are costing them money, and as soon as parents and kids wake up and refuse to pay for expensive rotten goods, the college system will collapse. Where will all the college assholes go after that?

A prequel to the Dune Series by Frank Herbert.

In it is described the impregnation of Sister Mohiam by Baron Harkonnen so the BG can have Jessica born.

Once and once only and an unpleasant event for both.

I doubt if they were doing it at Yale either.

158 Some of the worst injustices have come from cases where the woman never reported anything to either the campus or local police and then filed a complaint months or years later. Yup. Like it or not, sexual assault cases are often messy and confusing. A legitimate victim may spend months or years avoiding the issue before they work up the courage to come forward with the accusation, by which point any physical evidence is long gone and it's a matter of accusation and counter-accusation. As painful as it may be, I think there need to be strict limitations on the ability of a person to bring up accusations of sexual assault after a period of time. It's better for the true victims in the long run.

164 cthulhu: hang on for a moment . . . although, um, I'm flattered prescient: okay I won't snark. And I apologise for losing my temper. I do that too often when I see stuff like this (Aspergers Syndrome, or Asshole Syndrome; I've heard both). I do however need to point out: that when you are discussing historical events (here, of the Roman / Late-Antique Near East), you are discussing events which can be critiqued by use of the historical method. And I linked to one article that did that. There are some good arguments for the Christian kerygma. There are even better arguments for the Christian model for ordering a nation and its relationship to its most powerful religion. (Which is one reason I'm at this political site and not at, say, Islamic Awakening.) But just like I'd tread carefully when discussing - say - Jewish tradition when there are Jews about, as - at Ace's - there often are; you really should think hard when you are discussing the history of the Roman / Byzantine / post-Byzantine Near East when around people who've studied that stuff for however-long-it-is. I mean, you can do it. I love a good historical debate. But it has to be a GOOD historical debate.

181 Don't colleges have to report these things to the Sec of Education or something? I thought due to Title Whateverthefuck, that any rape or attacks on women have to be reported due to Federal $$$$$$$ Part of the problem is that the DoJ and Department of Education have demanded far looser standards of evidence than in a court of law. 50%+1, basically. A lot of this is to pad the count. If you have 100 accusations in a year, it doesn't matter that 90 of them were found to be bullshit. What gets reported is "90% of reported sexual assaults resulted in no punishment!" So the government and administrators have an incentive to do what they kind of wanted to do already, which is create these kangaroo courts.

BTH:

I'll stand down.  Fair enough, my apologies if I get too pissed off, as a former atheist convert, I do want the most educated debate.  And I do usually like your posts although we can tangle on special evolution all day.

But refer to the source you've cited.  Even this "debunking" talks about events that occurred 32 AD.   Now, the man who wrote literally 13000 pages of history of Western civilization and included also India, China and Japan, up to the 1930s on this, has stated that the author, Thallus, is trying to "explain away" these unnatural events after Christ's death.

Taking the historicity/critical approach, I'll refer to Mr. Durant's comment, and his many citations as to the historicity of Christ, something that intensely consumed Napoleon as well.

His basic conclusion was that our extant record provides far far more proof than even that of Julius Caesar, so if we believe that Caesar lived and died, then it's obvious that Christ lived and died.

Cheers!

I just brought it home from Easter dinner last night. Fresh, moist, very good. Needless to say, he didn't get fed this evening. He's so bloated, I almost can't still be mad at him... this is just about as funny as the time we left him in the van for two minutes alone - the ex forgot she had just bought a pound of ground beef for taco night. He wasn't even a year old, but learned to love red meat. Good boy!

226 so if we believe that Caesar lived and died, then it's obvious that Christ lived and died. Hey, now you're crossing the line. The Book of Allah clearly states, "they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him" /s But srsly now. That's where Carrier goes off the rails (in other work of his). He thinks Jesus never existed. In my agnostic opinion (and freakin' Bart Ehrman's agnostic opinion)... that's horseshit. For a start the epistle of 1 Peter doesn't make sense unless some people (starting with the author) thought that Jesus was the Christ and that he suffered and died. Ehrman tried to offer additional arguments against Carrier but unfortunately he seems to have lost his temper too.

228 Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy
Stacy: I may have had things in common with Stacy at the beginning, but
thirty years of living her lifestyle taught me some very harsh
lessons.  Five husbands: Ken, Johnny, Joe, Dr. Colossus, Steve
       Austin --
Lisa: But if you can learn from Malibu Stacy's mistakes, so can
everyone!  I'm sure we can think of something together.  Come on!
Stacy: Not now, I'm...to drunk.
***
Joe: Stacy, please, I must have you back.  Just come for a ride with
me in my Mobile Command Unit™.
Stacy: Joe, I told you, it's over.  Release me from your Kung-Fu
       Grip™.
Joe: Fine.  I'll bomb your house into the ground, missy.

232 During the recent Carolina Ramble, the rental car was a Hyundai -- I think the Elantra....and, boy, did that car suck. I understand there are nice Hyundai models, but that wasn't one of them. No cruise control, C pillar artfully designed with oddly-oversized passenger head restraints to maximize blind spot, serious lag to acceleration (and not much when it did finally show), and the handling seemed to be all about "softening things up" instead of "accurately report and deal with actual road conditions."

BTH:

Direct from the book Caesar and Christ:

"The oldest known mention of Christ in pagan literature is in a letter of the younger Pliny (ca 110), asking the advice of Trajan on the treatment of Christians.  Five years later Tacitus described Nero's persecution of the Chrestiani in Rome, and pictured them as already (AD 64) numbering adherents throughout the Empire.  Seutonius (AD 125) mentions the same persecution and reports Claudis' banishment (AD 52) of "Jews who, stirred up by Christ [impulsore Chresto], were causing public disturbances,"  the passage accords well with the Acts of the Apostles, which mentions a decree of Claudius that "the Jews should leave Rome."

I have many Jewish friends, one is the godfather of my first born son, yes I insisted...  So don't think that I fail to respect the Jewish people or their incredible faith.  They are God's chosen people after all.  And the only original civilization that survives to today.

But so many prophecies have already been fulfilled.  It is on me if I do not tell those who I like most what I know and believe.  And the factual basis, as well as reason as well as faith, all leads back to the same path...  Night fellow morans.

Ford/Mercury have had "twins" for decades -- and, IIRC, Mercury was the premium brand in the 60s.....but in recent years, Mercury has been the Epiphone to Ford's Gibson.

It would be difficult for me to own another Ford -- I had a 1979 Mustang for college, and that POS went through two starters, a ring gear, a tranny (one repair place said that it had never been properly bolted to the frame), two carbs, a water-pump.....and it went through valve-cover gaskets like candy (valve covers and valve assemblies made of metals with different expansion coefficients -- 100 hot/cold cycles and it'd grind the gaskets to mush).

I replaced with a 1986 Nissan Sentra that was so stripped it didn't even have a radio -- cost $4,709 out-the-door -- but my down-payment and car payments for the first 12 months I owned the Sentra were less than the repair bills alone on the last 12 months I owned the Mustang.

289 Since we're talking cars . . . I've decided to get a Nissan Rogue. I'm not in love with the car, but it gives me the most safety features (back-up camera plus 360-view when parking, blind spot warning, rear motion detection, and lane drift warning) for the lowest price. I'm not getting heated seats, which I will really miss, but I wanted to keep the price down because I know I will need to replace my HVAC system later this year. The dealer gave me a car to drive over the weekend, and I like how it drives. It feels like it hugs the road and I like the growly sound it makes when it starts up. I also like the keyless entry and power liftgate. Funny story about selling my car. I was going to sell it to Carmax and got an appraisal from them last week that I thought was very generous considering my car's condition. In front of CarMax there is a small used car dealer with big signs saying "We beat CarMax's price. Get your money today. We'll give you $200 if we can't beat the CarMax price." so I thought, what the heck, I should check this out. The guy there said he would give me the CarMax price plus $200, so I sold them my car. While they were doing the paperwork, I started chatting with the owner of this outfit and mentioned that my parents own some commercial property and used to rent part of it to a used-car lot. Turns out this guy used to work for the dealer who rented from my parents. In fact, my parents' tenant was his uncle. Now, this tenant caused my parents endless grief for not paying his rent, getting arrested for running an illegal betting operation at the used-car lot, trying to sublet the lot without my parents' permission (and for more than his rent and pocketing the difference), etc. I asked the guy I was talking to, "You're not running the same operation your uncle did, are you?" "Oh no!," he assured me. I had been feeling somewhat guilty about selling my car for what he was giving me without disclosing all the needed repairs, but after finding out he was related to my parents' scumbag tenant, I didn't feel bad anymore.

And it has been discontinued due to EPA regulations.  Ok and with that good night.  Archer still has kind of sucked this year...

300 Does Josephus count as "pagan" though? I don't think so? There were plenty of Joe's contemporaries who would have cursed him as such . . . Personally, I think Joe was right in the long run. The Revolt was a disaster. The only reason it can't be called an "epic fail" is because it was a tragic fail.

I can't say the car is perfect -- the rear hatch sensor that turns on the rearmost overhead light has never worked properly (I've always had to keep the On/Auto/Off light-switch on "Off") -- but I've had this car for damned-near 20 years.

Extra fun -- when I bought it, I wanted a Honda Accord EX Wagon with a stick. I'd done research, I'd looked at options, my mind was set. Looked around for a bit.....couldn't find any. Finally called Honda. When I bought my car, there were only 14 in the state (California emissions requirements made "in state" and "out-of-state" important). I visited the white one in San Bruno and the white one in Santa Cruz, and I think I visited a beige one in San Jose....the one I really would have liked was the green one in Chico. But I ended up using my credit union's fleet buying plan and buying a beige one in SLO, sight unseen.

Stuff just didn't start seeming right on the old Jeep, but when I pressed the brake pedal down and it went to the floor, and the car took forever to slow down, I figured something was wrong, and with the heat, a couple of windows, and the door locks not all working, we decided it was time to replace. When we pulled in to the dealership to sign the papers, the radiator finally decided it was time to burst open. There was a lot of satisfaction knowing that I would not have to pay to have that fixed.

Built in the same plants using the same engines.  In fact while I was there there were only 3 variations on the Honda/Acura V-6 engine block.  And the only reason that there were 3 is because they were making changes to one of them to have some additional ports.

321 I've been driving a 1991 Toyota Corolla wagon for 15 years, but it's time to replace it. It runs fine, but the body is rotting away. I definitely want a non-UAW car. My own Toyota was built in Japan, but I know a lot of "foreign" cars are built in the US nowadays. I have some ironclad criteria: 1. It must have the same cargo capacity as the Corolla wagon, but it can't be too high off the ground. My cargo ramps are sized for my current car, and I wouldn't want to have them angled too steep. 2. It must be a stick shift. Beyond that, I would strongly prefer manual windows and door locks. I distrust a lot of that electronic shit. It's just more expensive stuff that can break. I'm probably going to bed soon, but I'd appreciate any suggestions. Oh, used cars only. I'm not planning on buying new.

331 168 I've got a car question if anyone feels up for answering.
I've been looking at 3.5L V6 Camry and a V4 Fusion recently.
The Camry drives like a V6. The 1.5 Liter Ford V4 drives like...a V4. However, the 2.0 Liter Ford V4 feels like a V6.
How is that possible? I got to drive the 1.5L and 2.0L Fords back to back so I could feel the difference between the right away. The Camry was a little while ago so I could be misremembering...
Posted by: Barack Obama at April 21, 2014 11:23 PM (M3hAT)

I just checked in so I might be behind on this, but my Fusion 4-cylinder feels like a V6 because a) it's so light, b) it's a 6-speed automatic so it's a smooth transition, and c) it's a 2-liter so it has enough power to move. It's a blast to drive.

344 Posted by: Ashley Judd's Puffy Scamper, aka MrCaniac ---- Thanks. The Ranger is the best deal and supposed to get 20-22mpg but as I said I have read they blow gaskets in the heat. The Explorer is in perfect shape and I actually lean toward it a bit more but don't want 16 mpg driving from the Hill country to Houston for 250 bucks also it has a new engine with an old transmission and I've heard they eat transmissions. Heard anything about their mileage and transmissions? Some say they get better mileage than that. I've always heard that Pathfinders were comfy and reliable but it is distant third choice. This is going to be my utility truck and I can't justify the expense of something less than 10 years old.

348 So, lamely and shell-shocked -- this last trip, I discovered the joys of pottery in Seagrove, NC. There's a museum there and a boatload of potters, and as you drive around, you can seriously see sections where a gang of guys must have ripped into the side of a stream-bed to take out blocks of clay.

It must be a bitch-and-a-half to grow tomatoes in this slime, so local landowners keep pulling chunks of the landscape out, cleaning all the bugs, worms, coffee-grounds, twigs, and roots out.....then slappin' 'em, turnin' 'em, gloppin' 'em around, and firin' 'em (although all the techniques discussed at the museum would probably have the EPA wetting themselves in a panic and it looks like everyone now uses electric kilns).

There was a lot to admire, but I had to fly back on an airplane so I only bought one piece, a small tile with a cicada that is much like this bumblebee that's currently on the website (but more colorful) -- http://tinyurl.com/lcacdl9 . You will note the strong art nouveau / arts + crafts influences, and it certainly doesn't hurt that the artist is cute and personable, as I can attest. Overall, however, it is fascinating that there is an ordinary house, and in the back is a workshop, and in this workshop is a kiln and racks of clay going in and clay coming out, with a little display area. The kiln is about 4' across and 4' high. That's it.

350 I drove so many cars in the last month its all a blur. Drove a new charger, it was nice inside, had lots of room, and was pretty big car. Just not trusting the reliability, and it would suck in the snow.

Drove the KIA optima, by far the most impressive interior, everything laid out great, drove nice, had good power and trans shifted nice. Looked great, but under it all lurks a frigging recycled beer can. The hood felt like I could fold it. Brakes seemed a tad weak.

The chrysler 200 was a little missile with its 283HP V6. It was amazingly quiet inside, rode nice, handled nice, and they were practically giving them away, but again there is the reliability thing.

Infinity G37. Damn nice, but pricey.

Mercedes CLA...yeah enough about that.

Mazda 6. Damn impressive. Wish it had a little more power, but was nice with a stick. Overall I could see owning that one. Was damn fun to drive. The hood felt pretty heavy, so it seems to made out of some decent gauge metal. Incredible gas mileage at almost 40mpg

Acura TSX. Very nice,  but pisses me off the fucking thing with a 4cyl costs as much as a hemi challenger. 30k for something with a 4cyl is just retarded.

Acura RDX. very nice, but pricey, and not the greatest mpg.

Volkswagon jetta. meh...nice but kind of plain. The diesel had nice torque, but I'm not going to buy a frigging diesel.

Volkswagon passat. yeah, not interested in anything that sounds like pissant.

The wife drove some lexus hybrid just for shits and giggles. She said it was the most dangerous piece of fucking shit she ever sat in. It almost got her killed trying to pull out on the highway because it had zero acceleration.

Its been a hell of a month.

351 Daybrother, since you're looking for a truck that's a minimum of 16 years old and since it's Texas no doubt is high mileage, the best thing you can do whatever truck you buy is to invest in a good tool kit and a few classes in automotive repair, and a Chilton's manual Also get in good terms with your NAPA, Autozone, or Pep Boys store managers

372 Durant had something interesting to say about the bible as well. In considering whether the bible, the new testament events were made up, his take was, for a group of people or even one person to craft such a perfect document/religion, especially given the frailties, such as Christ asking God why he was forsaken, is more improbable then if every word of the bible were absolutely true.

373 " is more improbable then if every word of the bible were absolutely true."

No one can force you to be a believer in Christ. What I have found in my experiences is that the non believers just can't abide the fact that there are believers.

Thus the questioning of each and every word in the Bible. Something the non Christian would never do with the quran.

388 I find it funny that "Vox" has no comment capability. This allows the writer to maintain a bubble environment where they never have to be exposed to alternate ideas. I propose the "Compliance Curve". This principle states that as taxes increase, there comes a point where the effect is indistinguishable from prohibition, and the item taxed goes "underground". You can see this effect by the amount of tobacco products smuggled into New York. I think it works for most things progressives want to tax heavily.
