Happy Thursday.

An egregious lie about Sen. McConnell and by implication the GOP made the rounds in the lefty media yesterday, which took all day to correct itself.

The Ready for Hillary super PAC has raised $5.75 million for the undeclared 2016 candidate.

AG Holder had a sad yesterday speaking to Al Sharpton's annual convention: "You look at the way the attorney general of the United States was treated yesterday by a House committee — has nothing to do with me, forget that. What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment? What president has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?"

The two doctors who received the largest Medicare reimbursements just happen to be large Democratic donors trying to defend themselves from charges that they made fraudulent Medicare claims. Our old pals Dr. Melgen and Sen. Menendez make appearances. Oh, and the only reason we know it is because the Wall Street Journal sued after HHS rejected its FOIA requests.

7 "You look at the way the attorney general of the United States was treated yesterday by a House committee — has nothing to do with me, forget that. Heaven forbid that they should be asked to account for their actions, let alone beheld accountable. It must sting Eric the Red badly to be subject to the same standards as others. I hope he ends up spending time in a Mexican prison.

8 If the AG treated Americans better, not just his tribe, and followed the Constitution (remember that champ?) then he would be treated better. We need a list of honor and dishonor like the Instumentality of Man in Cordwainer Smith's science fiction stories. That government had very strong internal discipline. Mess us, and you die, with your name going on one or the others list. The late AG Holder would go on the dishonor list.

Much as it pains me to say it, I kind of agree with the guy. What other president and AG could have committed this many acts of treason and still hold office? They clearly are treated differently because of skin color.

And if he was being "held to the same standards" for his felonies, favoritism and evasions as a non-affirmative-action AG working for a non-affirmative-action, patriotic, law-abiding president, the fuckweasel would be rotting in jail right now.

21 TCM showed a real courtroom drama movie this morning.  It was called simply Trial.  Glenn Ford starred in it as a law professor who is conned into defending this Mexican teen boy who is accused of murdering a woman.  Turns out the people who hired him want the boy to be convicted and sentenced to death, since they are Communists at war with the American way of life.

Abbe who is the fellow traveler who falls for Glenn's character explained how she fell under the sway of Communism in college but got disillusioned because 'truth on Monday became a lie by Tuesday.'

At the end, after Glenn's character has been thrown off the defense team by the Communist who hired him but is making a case before the judge to save Angel from the death penalty, the Communist scum sucker of a layer calls the judge, who is black, an Uncle Tom.

The judge has the last word when he tells the Communist that he would like being a martyr if he was sentenced to a year in jail for contempt.  Since the man has tried to make the judge over-react by being provocative with the Uncle Tom call and other derogatory remarks.  Instead the judge sends him to county jail for 30 days on contempt.

And thus concludes today's lesson on how yesterday's Communists are today's Democrats.

The restitution was ordered three weeks after a jury found the university guilty of retaliating against criminology professor Mike Adams, a popular conservative columnist on Townhall.com, after denying him a promotion to full professor in 2006.

70 The chair of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee strongly opposes a Pentagon plan to cut funding for commissaries, another signal that the drastic $1 billion proposed reduction will not survive the congressional budget process. Members of the House and Senate subcommittees that set Defense Department policy already have appeared lukewarm to the plan, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle saying the fiscal 2015 personnel budget proposals — including the commissary cuts — undermine the work of the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission, expected to publish pay and benefits recommendations in 2015. But on Wednesday during a military health hearing, Chairman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., had the harshest words yet for the plan, which would slash the Defense Commissary Agency’s budget from $1.4 billion to $400 million. “I don’t think we ought to cut the commissary budget. ... I think if we want to look at the stress military families are facing, we need to look at their activities of daily living and look at this holistically. ... [The commissary] is one of the most important tools you have for the health and well-being of the military and the garrisons in this country,” Mikulski said to the service surgeons general. Well she is a Dem, but I gotta give her big kudos for this.

Good news, every Juan!:

Proposal offers loans to undocumented students at California universities

CA Senate Bill 1210 would make available $9.2 million for University of California and California State University campuses to administer loans to undocumented students, who are ineligible for federal financial aid and most private loans.

California has already taken several steps over the past 13 years to make college available and more affordable for undocumented students. In 2001, the Legislature extended in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants who graduated from a California high school. Three years ago, it made them eligible to apply for Cal Grants.

UC President Janet Napolitano estimated there are 2,000 undocumented students in the UC system who could benefit from the loan program. It's also estimated the CSU system has about 6,300 undocumented students.

True.  But in this context we are just discussing this sorry excuse of an AG compared with his predecessors, such as Ed Meese, who was hounded mercilessly by the Dims for his entire term in office, far worse than anything this whiny bitch has experienced.  And oh yes, they never came close to hanging anything on Meese, much as they tried.

Ranchers have to be slowly forced off of federal land (the majority of the Far West) to "protect the environment".

Meanwhile, it's full steam ahead for giant solar plants on the same land, at which the Fish And Wildlife Service have observed birds actually being incinerated in flight.

Funny how "the environment" gets dynamically redefined according to the political rationales of the moment, eh?

95 I don't know about teachers in Finland and how they are treated. The friends of your wife would probably think this is great, but here is tax info on Finland: In Finland Taxation of an individual's income is progressive. In other words, the higher the income, the higher the rate of tax payable. In 2014 the income tax rate (national tax) for an individual is between 6.5%-31.75%. In addition to direct taxation there is also municipal tax in Finland. This tax is payable by an individual on his or her income and it fluctuates between 16.25% - 22% depending on the municipal authority. Foreign residents generally pay 35% on salary income and 30% on dividend, interest and royalties income. Reduced rates of tax or exemption are available for certain income earners. Well, it takes about ten seconds to find out that Finland also spends a whole lot LESS money on its education system than does the United States. About a third less.

http://mercatus.org/publication/k-12-spending-student-oecd

So, hey, here's a proposal for those teacher friends. We'll slash spending to Finnish levels and then see how they like that wonderful system the Finns have.

Although, what you really see in comparisons like this isn't so much a financial effect as it is an ethnographic effect. It's instructive to compare the educational performance of Scandinavians in Scandinavia with the performance of Scandinavian-Americans here (both quite good). But that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

They used to get that in Wisconsin.  Average compensation in Milwaukee when you include their freeeeeeeee (it really was, not a dime spent on their family's own premiums) health care was $100K.  Average household income in the city--the whole household! not just one adult!--was $33K.

And that began during the Carter years, was rolled back in the Reagan years, went static in the Bush The Lesser years, accelerated hugely under Clinton, and then went static again under Bush The Lesser Still.

So when Democrats consistently kick ranchers in the nuts, and every Republican administration since Reagan (coincidentally both Bushes) do little or nothing to stop or reverse the kicking, the trend line is easy to draw.

Hillary, after a lifetime in politics would be as arrogant as Obama but in her advancing years wouldn't be as astute, and it would also be painful to see a powerful politician in their decline. All of the democrat tropes, so recently discredited would be a staple in Hillary's time as President. Her foreign policy would be a debacle even more so than Obama, and the shameless democrat shills in the news media would be an embarrassment. The only downside would be the GOP would have to be even greater failures than they already are if they want to hold onto their second place position for the simple reason that should the GOP actually win an election, then those politicians would actually have to do something rather than just faking it.

141 Bruce, Finland really does have a great school system, mostly because they are intelligent people with a functioning government and have been patiently working to improve the system for several decades. One of the really big changes was slashing budgets and decentralizing in the 1990s, when the Finnish economy tanked due to collapse of the Soviet export market. As a result they now have a lean, decentralized system, with most of the responsibility at the municipal level. Teachers have a great deal of autonomy and responsibility--administration is so lean that they help to administer the schools--but pay is just a bit less than in the U.S. A great source for learning about the Finnish system and the (ongoing) reform process that created it is the book Finnish Lessons, by Pasi Sahlberg. Pasi also has a good website, www.pasisahlberg.com.

I'm personally done with delicacy.  My brain-to-mouth filter has been wearing out for years now, and I think I'm just done having it replaced.

Finland is ethnically homogeneous.  They all speak the same language, share the same culture and have the same mores.  (Statistically, anyway).

I would be perfectly willing to pay US teachers what Finnish teachers make, provided the tax rate for US teachers matches what Finnish teachers pay, and that classrooms mimic the homogeneous make-up of Finnish classrooms.

Until then, fuck off.  This is the United States of America.  We fought the British (twice) to NOT be European.  We saved Europe (twice) to - in part - preserve our right to be left the fuck alone and preserve the right of self-determination for other states.  Finland wants to asspound their citizens with taxes to pay their teachers a bazillion dollars?  Awesome.  Go team.

We've made different decisions regarding taxation and social welfare here.  Your teacher friends need to stop cherry picking the best possible data points while ignoring (lying about) the manner in which those points are funded.

153 Take a moment to remember. On April 10, 1963 the USS Thresher (SSN593), the lead ship in a new hunter-killer class (Fast Attack) of nuclear submarines sank approximately 220 miles off the coast of Massachusetts during a deep dive test at 1000-1300 ft with the loss of all hands. Although the exact cause is unknown, the Navy's official position is seawater flooding in the engineering spaces which led to a reactor shutdown and loss of propulsion, plus the failure of the Main Ballast Tank blow system to remove water from the ballast tanks. At 09:13 the Thresher's surface escort ship USS Skylark (ASR-20) received a garbled message from the Thresher via underwater sound telephone stating; "....experiencing minor difficulty, have positive up angle, attempting to blow..." At 09:18 the Skylark could hear implosion noises. It would take the Navy using the deep diving research sub Trieste nearly 3 months to locate the Thresher. She was in pieces at 8400 ft. 129 men died with the Thresher. 108 crewmen (two Chief Petty Officers were brothers), 17 shipyard workers and 4 Navy observers. In keeping with Navy tradition the Thresher and those aboard her are considered to be On Eternal Patrol. The Thresher's crew roster with bios and photos. http://tinyurl.com/onmvxuq

So I live in a city where I have a pretty good grasp of the relative proportions of residents' ethnicities.

Then I go to the public library. And there, I look at the patrons and compare them to the population of the city as a whole.

Whites and Asians are more likely to use the library than are blacks and Hispanics. And if you look at what young parents with children are checking out, for whites and Asians, it's armloads of starter books. For blacks and Hispanics with children of comparable age, it's armloads of entertainment DVDs.

Of course, later ethnic disparities in reading performance in school are because the curriculum is rayciss.

Engineering rules are written in blood.

In the case of _Thresher_, what came out of it was SubSafe, the set of rigorous technical guidelines which since then have made it far less likely for Navy submariners to suffer similar fates.

Indeed only more more USN sub loss since that time, _Scorpion_, which may have been a weapon malfunction rather than a defect in the submarine herself.

The USN deep submergence community revisit both wrecks regularly to do radiological assays. There hasn't been any migration of reactor material outside the immediate vicinity of where the cores lie on the seabed.

There are also a shit-ton of old Soviet cores littering the bottom of the Barents.

Some of them not in subs. Old or damaged cores removed during port overhaul, taken out to sea and tipped over the side.

But even those haven't created a widespread contamination problem.

210 From the linked article about the Saudis refusing to meet with Obama:

"WhatÂ’s to stop Putin from marching through Ukraine straight into Poland?"

Poles.

The Polish know from history that they live in a bad neighborhood. So once they got the worst of the post-Warsaw Pact economic adjustment behind them, they started investing in military modernization in a big way.

They're not all the way there, and they're still upset that the irresponsible adolescent stoner in the Oval Office pulled American missile defenses away from their soil. But they are not a country that even Putin would lighly trifle with now.

Not least because Poland has a healthy number of young military-aged males, and Russia with its ongoing demographic implosion is running out of those awfully quick.

And a lot of the military-aged males in Russia are underweight or unwell, or rendered unfit by alcohol, or heroin. I saw a photo of  Putin reviewing some troops and thought, man, some of these guys look like they can hardly lift a ruck for a day march. You have to figure that they're the hand-selected cream of the crop for such a photo op, too.

212 I swear we are living in a mad ass crazy f'ed up world. Obviously heard about the rancher in NV who can't let his cattle graze on land because a desert tortoise lives there. Only in America... http://tinyurl.com/mplekw2 Federal funds for a Nevada-based desert tortoise conservation center are running dry and wildlife officials plan to close the facility and euthanize hundreds of tortoises that were once classified as “endangered” and are currently considered “threatened.” The desert tortoise can be found in the southwestern United States, but its population has been dwindling. In some areas, the tortoise population has decreased by 90 percent since the 1980s, and in the Mojave desert the population is considered “threatened.” It is illegal to touch, harm or harass these animals, and the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center has tried to increase their population ever since they were added to the endangered species list in 1990. Still, only 100,000 desert tortoises are estimated to remain in the wild. But federal funds are running dry at the Las Vegas Valley facility, and rather than release the animals, officials plan to euthanize about half of the 1,400 tortoises. The 220-acre facility will shut its doors in 2014, and the tortoises deemed feeble to survive in the wild will be set free. Many of the tortoises at the center were formerly kept as pets and are unable to survive in the desert.

Billions of tax dollars are taken from us by a partisan IRS and redistributed to politicians and their cronies and endlessly recycled to ensure the same corrupt politicians stay in power, yet the incumbent re-election rate is phenomenally high when they should all be begging for alms on the streets of DC. The only political construct that looks like it has principles and understands the meaning of the Constitution is under continuous and unrelenting attack by the entire sleazy unprincipled political establishment (R & D) willing to use the ruthless force of an imperial government (IRS, NSA, DoJ, EPA, ATF, ICE, BLM...) as well. So all in all, I am not very optimistic about my future.

218 GGE, I am not seeing that Robert Alex Corchado, who police are looking for and have arrest warrants, has been caught yet.

He had help, one would think, after abandoning the SUV they were originally looking for....then renting black Mazda SUV. One commenter said the house where the car was abandoned was of, uh, not so great neighbors.

After spending 3 yrs in prison for selling cocaine and released in 2012... he was arrested last December for hit and run (!), possession of cocaine, heroin, and cannibis with intent to sell. Then posted bond and was not held. Nor was it mentioned if he had a driver's license to revoke. As recently as this month he was ticketed for "reckless' driving. A four year old girl is dead today due to the "laws" of Florida. It remains to be seen if he is a legal citizen or a "national" aka "illegal alien." With his long drug history I am thinking the latter. Bite moi.

So far, I have not found where he is from. Big surprise. A story today stated he is married. He has had a criminal record for 10 yrs and yet is still free to kill.

236 I read Erik Wemple's article about the McConnell lie and here's the problem I have. Only the NYT came out and said "McConnell was not referring to pay equity when he talked about the Dems' bizarre obsession." The other corrections were all along the lines of "McConnell's office says . . . ", which allows the low info voters to conclude that the initial reporting was correct and McConnell's office is just engaging in spin. Only an idiot or a willful liar (or both) could have thought that, when McConnell talked about another attack from Reid against his latest bizarre obsession, McConnell really meant that pay equity is the Dems' bizarre obsession.

Reading these news reports makes me more and more convinced that this Constitutional Republic is pretty much lost forevermore.

The rancher family is fighting the BLM alone, with no militia and no neighbors riding to their defense.

This was what, in an incoherent way, I was trying to reference yesterday when one commenter stated that he / she would stand fast.  If these BLM thugs have no fear that any armed civilians will come to the rescue of one family, how much fear do you think LEOs have about taking one to the head if they decide to confiscate guns?

We know where the governor is - cowering under his desk trying to change his sharted diaper.  So where is the militia?  Where are the neighbors?  Are they afraid, do they not care, or are they just shrugging their shoulders and saying, "eh, not the hill to die on?"

I wish I knew the answer.  And I wish I had a leader to follow.

I do. Or, rather, it isn't necessarily bullshit.

But it is cherry-picking data.

The number that is important is how the total population has changed.

Animals move around all of the time. Toward prey and away from predators. That has nothing to do with man or cow. So a count in area "A" one year may be drastically different than the count in the same area in a different year, without representing any change in the total population.

I understand that researchers can't be everywhere in the desert all the time, so, to them, that sentence was accurate. They're doing their best to gather data, I get that. But when that cherry picking of data results in the debacle that's happening to that family, that's when the problems arise. They'll use that cherry-picked data as their excuse to deny the family their rights. I fear another Waco Event, and the governor, who should be on the ground there, is essentially useless. He'll talk a lot about rights and laws, but he won't do anything to defend them against this outlaw regime. I'd love to be a governor. If I was California's guv, I'd have taken troops to the pumphouses that the feds turned off for the Central Valley and turned them back on and dared anyone in DC to do something about it. Male-to-Female     Transgender Student Files Discrimination Complaint Against Christian College For Not Letting Her Live In Male DormsÂ…

Campus Reform:  http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=5532&app=cro

A female-to-male transgender student has filed a discrimination complaint against his Christian university, claiming the school must allow him to live in menÂ’s dormitories regardless of its theological principles.

George Fox University released a statement on Friday claiming that allowing the student, named Jayce, to live in on-campus male housing would interfere with its efforts “to be a Christ-centered community.”

"Being a religiously-affiliated school does not mean having to be unwilling to hear JayceÂ’s story, see past preconceived notions of sex and gender and respect him for who God made him."

“Our residential facilities are single gender because of our theological commitments,” it continues.

The Oregon college told the student that he could, however, live with other male students off campus or in his own on-campus apartment.

But the student said this is not good enough...

A male student who's transgendered to female but still wants to live with males.    Understand?     At   a Christian    college   that deliberately    keeps its dorms single gender.

They will never be satisfied and they will never, ever stop.

272 Like everyone when they're young, I idly wondered what would happen in a constitutional democracy if people just decided to blow off the law. I did not, however, really consider the scenario where the people continue to follow the law while the government itself does not. It just seems so contrary to reason because functional government inherently depends on lawfulness you wouldn't think government leaders would destroy the institutions they lead. Unfortunately, we now have a generation of hate-filled socialist anti-patriots (is there even a word for people who hate their own countries?), the leaders of which are selfish, self-absorbed, narcissistic, closed-minded illiberal bigots who conspired with a thieving, lying press to create an ongoing criminal enterprise and openly abuse the plebes. There's something I used to laugh at...

In some gun owner circles, there's an article of faith that says if push comes to shove and the government goes Full Tyrant, the police and military will refuse to participate in the inevitable pogroms that would follow.

I would think about things like the police conduct in New Orleans following Katrina and chuckle.  I would think of a relative of mine, former Army officer, who in my living room was full bore in favor of door-to-door confiscations after Sandy Hook and shake my head.  Now I see what's going on with this rancher and am worried about such naivite.

Yep, the assumption needs to be that those guys with guns are not going to err on the side of individual rights when push comes to shove.  There have been a number of opportunities to demonstrate otherwise, and I haven't seen anything to make me optimistic.

As for Sandoval, well, I guess that damages the idea that elected officials are going to do little to nothing to help other than issue soundbites.

There have been a number of opportunities to demonstrate otherwise, and I haven't seen anything to make me optimistic." Just thought this bore repeating. It worked for a while. Then unscrupulous people discovered they could create careers lying to people, and the rest, as they say, is history. We are so terribly screwed...

Did they successfully block the Feds from going down that highway or did they show up when the Feds were already done, as one of the BLM guys seemed to say? Also, the bulldozers were presumably being used to move cattle they'd killed, is that happening? And the woman who said calves were dying under bushes because the BLM had removed their mothers? Their argument is that man has interfered with the natural order of things, such as extinction, evolution, etc.

My counter-argument has three parts.

1. Stop taking antibiotics, because they interfere with the natural order of bacteria.

2. So? Man has every right to modify his environment to his own benefit.

3. You can't possibly be that fucking stupid.

If Man is NOT a Natural Creature, then you have no basis for believing in Darwinistic Evolution at all.

Prosecuting Communist spy Alger Hiss.  For a short time KGB records were opened in the early 1990's.  There were the pay stubs of Alger Hiss amoung the KGB record. The love affair between Democrats and Communists began with  FDR and "Uncle Joe". He found jobs for his friends in the State Department. When Senator McCarthy tried to improve U.S. security the Communists and their Democratic allies went on the offense to destroy him.  Most of what you have heard of Senator McCarty are lies. Senator McCarthy was a good friend of John Kennedy and family.  A fact you will never hear.
