War, what is good for? Certainly not the environment, and as a result, the tanks rolling across Europe could soon be green, and not just the paint scheme. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has addressed the fact that the militaries of the world emit a considerable amount of greenhouse gases, and has called upon efforts for the tanks to go green by adding solar panels.
Stoltenberg called up efforts to develop low-emitting vehicles at an online seminar titled New Ideas for NATO 2030.
"NATO should do its part to look into how we can reduce emissions from military operations,†Stoltenberg said during the Chatham House. "We know that heavy battle tanks or fighter jets and naval ships, they consume a lot of fossil fuel and emit greenhouse or co2, greenhouse gases, co2, and therefore we do have to look into how we can reduce those emissions by alternative fuels, solar panels, other ways of running our missions.â€
The FBI partnered with an Australian security firm called Azimuth Security to gain access to an iPhone linked to the 2015 San Bernardino shooting, a new report from The Washington Post reveals. Before now, the methods the FBI used to get into the iPhone were kept secret. It was only clear that Apple wasn’t involved, as the company had refused to build a backdoor into the phone, kicking off a legal battle that only ended after the FBI successfully hacked the phone.
The phone at the center of the fight was seized after its owner, Syed Rizwan Farook, perpetrated an attack that killed 14 people. The FBI attempted to get into the phone but was unable to due to the iOS 9 feature that would erase the phone after a certain number of failed password attempts. Apple attempted to help the FBI in other ways but refused to build a passcode bypass system for the bureau, saying that such a backdoor would permanently decrease the security of its phones.
Michelle Dionne was excited about her new job, helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by doing extra cleaning in an elementary school in Darwell, Alta. — about 85 kilometres west of Edmonton.
But last October, after being on the job for about six weeks, her boss at the cleaning company sent out a companywide message — telling employees to download an app on their personal phones that would check their location and ensure they were working their scheduled hours.
Dionne found the request offensive and refused.
"I was at the school working so that I could provide for my son," she told Go Public. "We're not thieves. We don't need an ankle monitor."
Less than two months later, the single mom was fired — her refusal to download the app was mentioned in her letter of termination.
You Can Now Wear White Sparkly Glitter Crocs For Your Wedding Day
Brides sometimes think about their wedding day since they were little girls. Everything has to be just perfect from the bride’s dress to the groom’s tuxedo.
But now bride’s are adding to their list of wishes by adding white sparkly crocs to wear instead of heals. Yes, white sparkly glitter crocs actually exist.
Sen. Lindsey Graham warned that President Biden is "paving the way" for another 9/11 with his commitment to fully withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan by September.
"With all due respect to President Biden, you have not ended the war, you've extended it," the South Carolina Republican said during a Capitol Hill press conference. "You have made it bigger, not smaller."
President Joe Biden intends to withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that started the decades-long conflict, congressional officials confirmed Tuesday.
News of the withdrawal deadline was first reported by the Washington Post. Biden had faced a deadline set by the previous administration of removing all U.S. military forces from the country by May 1, but publicly admitted meeting that deadline was unlikely.
Still, White House officials have said Biden remained committed to ending the ongoing U.S. military presence there. In March, during a press conference, Biden said he did not see a scenario where U.S. troops were still in Afghanistan in 2022.
A Taiwanese man sparked controversy on social media after complaining about getting a pay cut for spending too much time in the bathroom during work hours.
The disgruntled employee, identified only as ‘Mr. A.’, recently took to Facebook to voice his frustration and disappointment at having part of his monthly salary withheld by the company he works at, for having spent too much time in the bathroom the previous month. The man admitted to spending a whopping 49.5 hours in the toilet, which amounts to about two hours of bathroom time per day, but said that his employer failed to inform him that his wages could be cut for taking too long toilet breaks.
Russian inventor Eduard Luzyanin took a 150cc scooter engine and tracks from a snowmobile to invent the Hamster. Three pairs of shock absorbers help ease the ride, although steering it is hard: all the rider can do is lean into turns to shift directions. But it can move as quickly as 27 MPH.

ABINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A Methuen man is facing criminal charges after police say he pepper-sprayed a taxi driver during a ride in Tewksbury because he didn’t want to pay his fare.
Thomas Miele, 40, was arrested Sunday on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and evading taxi fare, according to the Tewksbury Police Department.
Officers responding to a 911 call spoke with a taxi driver who stated that Miele had sprayed his face with pepper spray in an attempt to get out of paying his fare, police said.

Looks like a cool little gadget. I have often thought about building something similar. But I would make the track convex on the bottom, so the edges of it were maybe 2" above the center on hard ground. Instead of the complex system of bogies, just have 3 or 4 air-inflated go-kart tires down the center axis of the track. That should make steering by leaning much more effective. Give it about a 250 cc engine; track drives really suck power. And give the rider a shoulder harness, attached to the vehicle frame with quick-disconnect lanyards, so he could stand up, and physically turn the machine, to change course in zero distance.

ONT Greetings, Horde!
Kind of a techie question for y'all. I've got an SD card fulla photo files from the Nikon Df. Would I be better served with a download of the Nikon branded photo management software, or a freeware version of Lightshop?
Not going the Photoshop route though. For what I envision for photographic post-processing, that'd be like killing a fly with a Mk.82 nuke.
Just some simple white-balance, cropping, maybe a little dodge n' burn here n' there.
Thanks in advance for the tech advice, Horde!

Thanks, guys! GIMP it shall be, then. I've seen Paint Shop Pro, but I haven't any direct experience with it.
I can quite literally, teach advanced photography, from the classic aspects of the camera's settings, composition, lighting and such. Most B&W darkroom processes, and a bit of Cibachrome from the old days.
But the digital side of things is a whole new world for me, and quite frankly, it's a bit much to take in all at a sitting.
One final question. What's a good company to send a digital file off to, in order to purchase the production of an actual, final, photographic enlargement/print?
Again, thanks!

Dropped my previous comment, then had to make an emergency run into town. (Two of my favorite driving conditions - dark night and just enough rain to smear the dust on the windshield.) All we had was some "airplane" bottles of vodka and takillya. Needed some wine to go with the meatloaf and mashed potatoes Milady has created. Thank Gov that Oklahoma now allows grocery stores to carry not-hard booze, and the store's open 'til 10.
Double top pix with double hidden clix. And I could even listen to both! (Not a criticism of MH's music selections; de gustibus etc. I'm just not always in the right frame of mind in the evening for some of them. This besides my increasingly narrow taste in music.)

-- Kneeling made it about divisive politics, which grew to racist hate ... for the attitudes and opinions of 85% of their fan base, basically flipping us off and slandering us (after paying for expensive tickets and beer). -- No going back ... and it was already too many druggies and criminals, without the hate for America as founded.

As others have mentioned, The Gimp is an open source replacement for Photoshop. It is every bit as capable, and also as complicated.
FastStone is a much simpler piece of software and it is also freeware. It is part of the Portable Apps collection if you have any need to install on a PC that you don't have admin privileges on. But, you can also get it on its own.

There are two branches of Windows. The first, I'll call the Win 9x line, came from the DOS -- > Win 3.x 16 bit. Windows 95 was putting a 32-bit OS on top of that, but DOS and the 16-bit Windows were still under the hood.
Windows NT was MS building a real 32-bit OS from the ground up. Dave Cutler of VMS fame from DEC was hired to do it, and he was one of the main architects. They started the versioning at NT 3.1. Then NT 3.5 and NT 4.0. The Server and Workstation lines spawned in that progression.
And then they retired the Win 9x line and decided to let NT take over the consumer OS market. NT 5.0 was rebranded Windows 2000. But the transition was a clean as they hopes, and Windows Me, the last DOS-crippled version of the Win 9x line was released.
Windows XP, or NT 5.1 was the first to truly take over the consumer market, with plug and play being perfected.
Vista was NT 6.0. Windows 7 was NT 6.1. Windows 8 is NT 6.2. Windows 10 should really be Windows NT 6.3, maybe even give it a 7.0, but they changed the interal versioning to say "10.0.xxx.xxxx".
Anyway since they started number at 3, subtract 2 from the version number. You'll see XP was really NT 3.1. And 3.0 - 3.1 is when software usually becomes complete and pretty damned good. Many times after that, it becomes bloatware and featuritis.

Windows 10 may have warranted a major version number uptick, so call it NT 7.0.
There are some complications with the 64-bit and Server versions. XP x64 and the ill-fated Itanium version of XP where NT 5.2, as well as Server 2003 versions.

I've used PaintShopPro since practically forever. (My only graphics program since EA didn't port Deluxe Paint II to Windows.) PSP was bought out by Corel, but the originators put out their final pre-gobbled-up version, with license, for anyone to use. Look for PaintShopPro 8, and the license addition that is 8.1. A quick DDG search showed this link for it.
There has never been anything I want to do in graphics that PSP can't do. Except GIF style animation, and the Animation Shop included with PSP8 can create those. Antiquated XP software is all this old webworker needs. Check out my wonderful webworks site for thousands of examples.

Originally NT ran on x86, MIPS, and DEC Alpha. They add PowerPC support in 3.51. In order to ensure that any x86-isms didn't get into NT, Cutler had initial development done on some Intel i860 and something else internally at MS. That was to ensure no one could slip in some x86 specific construct.
They dropped support for MIPS and PowerPC during the NT 4.0, and only x86 and Alpha versions have the full service packs up to 6.0a available. Now, they dropped support for Alpha in Windows 2000, although Alpha support made it all the way to the first release candidate of Win2K. You can download that from some of the abandonware sites.
Then 64-bit came out, and you had Itanium and x64.
Now, it's officially x86, x64, and now ARM/ARM64. I expect 32-bit x86 support will be dropped, but not for a while.

* presidents don't control economies with an on/off switch, but it's obvious when their discretionary policies hinder economic growth, or help it, or when they just happen to be standing there when secular changes happen (Clinton, internet boom)

That's probably true. Excel was always Windows only, and I think I remember getting a demo of Excel that came with Windows in the Windows 2.x days. It was until Windows 3.x (16 bit) that the GUI and Windows took off. I don't know if they did any bundles then.
It was the 386 and V86 mode that let Windows take off, allowing multiple DOS boxes. Windows/386, which was technically pre 3.0 and still in the 2.x line was the first one of those.
I've got a working install of that in a virtual machine that I play with, BTW. Nostalgia.

Believe it or not, when I transferred to Stanford to get a B.S. in Engineering in '84, they -- the home of Silicon Valley -- DID NOT offer an undergraduate degree in Computer Science (only Masters and PhDs), which was my career choice since senior year in high school.
I got my degree in the closest discipline. Electrical Engineering (for which I had zero aptitude and hated). I had 30 on-campus interviews over the course of 30 days before graduation (and was offered a handful of on-site second interviews).
The first, and generally disqualifying question, was always "Why are you interviewing for a software engineering job when you're getting a B.S. in E.E.?
As the rejection letters poured in, I taped them to the outside wall of my dorm room as a badge of self-deprecating honor. My classmates thought I was insane (which was close to the mark).

demand for mature animals went down, so ranchers produced fewer calves, etc, not knowing when, or if, things would open up again.
and, according to them, the major suppliers are likely engaging in price fixing as well, to take advantage of the "crisis".

supply/demand + greed = high prices

Sorry, I don't see it. The Left is trying to figure out if citizens, or anyone will ever stand up to their lies and anti-American activities. They know they should have been called out long ago, but the continued protection by Progda and the sell out of the Constitution by Judas Iscariot Roberts continue to fan the flames of corruption. Why is the US Capitol still surrounded by chain link fencing? Seriously, if Trump would have done this, (of course he never would, he respects America too much) could you imagine the 19-Alarm fire that all Progda networks, and yes, FIX News too, would be broadcasting right now?
No, things cannot stay this way, and they won't. As Hemmingway said, "slowly at first, then suddenly".

25% is a solid number, with gasoline around 40%.
And another thing, many imported goods are scarce. An example is common running shoes. Made in China of course and other Asian countries. A month ago, I couldn't get anything I wanted of priced right anywhere, even on line. Found, finally, a pair of shoes that was adequate at best. I checked last week, and the situation continues.
So, prices going up, and scarcities for other reasons.
Welcome to the Biden Era.
Welcome to Hell.

Talk about hitting the center of the bullseye!
Look at the states that are trying to get to the bottom of the corrupt election in their states, AZ and GA in particular right now. There are state judges blocking the review of the mechanics of the actual vote, the physical ballots (not photographs - it's the fake paper that gives it away) the voting recording books, the voting machines and their software, videos of the counting centers that evening. Even with state Senates demanding to see the evidence, the judges continue to shut the investigators down. It's nuts.
The judges are fighting to keep out the ability to investigate the truth. It is stunning to watch these vermin continue the cover up. Eventually, one of these investigations will be complete, I'm confidently speculating voter fraud well beyond the margin of victory will be proven. Then watch Progda spin their lies and the Deep State pressure will be amped up.

Iirc, some Harvard guys sat around a table and decided they needed 1.1% out of inflation/Social Security COLAs to free up a trillion dollars over ten years for some project so they adjusted the gov't calculations. The time frame fits as well. The podcast was more on the topic of the incestuous nature of Harvard culture and how they stamp out anybody who messes with accepted wisdom.

So much for opsec. We're occupied by Nazis. They intend to reduce us to slaves before we're executed in the camps. That knowledge alone should be more than enough to guide our actions in the future.
