Well after the shame brought on the blog by the thread-now-banished-to-the-cornfield this is the content you're worthy of. Also reason #12 why we can't have nice things.
Perhaps after enough contrition has been shown non-Premium members will once again be allowed the privilege of readable fonts.
carambolage m (plural carambolages)
- (billiards) a carom, a cannon.
- (by extension) a car accident involving 3 or more cars hitting each other successively, pile-up
- Les carambolages sont des accidents typiques d'une vitesse excessive et d'un trafic dense. On en voit surtout sur les autoroutes.
- "Carom-like" accidents are bound with excessive speed and high traffic. They happen more often on highways.
Chicago-area School Officials Don't Like 'No Guns' Stickers That Picture Guns
And it gets dumber from there.
"One of my biggest concerns as a principal is safety and security," Tinley Park High School Principal Theresa Nolan told the Southtown Star. "It is bothersome to have to post a sticker of a gun that says, 'Hey, folks, leave your guns at home.' "Nolan said she feared the Image could be misinterpreted.
...Nolan said she was not opposed to the law or posting the sign, but wished it could have been more subtle.
"I would have appreciated something more subtle, yet still recognizable - a logo, perhaps, not a gun," Nolan said.
How a Chinese Businessman Spooked the Western Elite
By casually talking about the inevitable future war between China and Japan.
I went to one of those fancy private dinners last night in Davos, Switzerland. ...And one thing that was said rattled a lot of people at the table.During the dinner, the hosts passed a microphone around the table and asked guests to speak briefly about something that they thought would interest the group.
One of the guests, an influential Chinese professional, talked about the simmering conflict between China and Japan over a group of tiny islands in the Pacific.
The Chinese professional acknowledged that if China asserted control over the disputed islands by attacking Japan, America would have to stand with Japan. And he acknowledged that China did not want to provoke America. But then he said that many in China believe that China can accomplish its goals - smacking down Japan, demonstrating its military superiority in the region, and establishing full control over the symbolic islands - with a surgical invasion.
In other words, by sending troops onto the islands and planting the flag.
The Chinese professional suggested that this limited strike could be effected without provoking a broader conflict.
...The assembled CEOs, investors, executives, and journalists stared quietly at the Chinese professional. Then one of them, a businessman, reached for the microphone."Do you realize that this is absolutely crazy?" the businessman asked.
"Do you realize that this is how wars start?"
"Do you realize that those islands are worthless pieces of rock... and you're seriously suggesting that they're worth provoking a global military conflict over?"
The Chinese professional said that, yes, he realized that. But then, with conviction that further startled everyone, he said that the islands' value was symbolic and that their symbolism was extremely important.
Tales from the Hellhole: "Afghans will steal money even when it is not in their interest to do so."
Along with why the Karzais support the Taliban against the other tribes.
A recently released report (which the U.S. government wanted to keep secret) showed how auditors found no part of the Afghan government able to handle foreign aid without most of the money being stolen. Corruption and poor government continue to be a major problem which the drug trade is simply part of. The only battle that counts in Afghanistan is the struggle against corruption, but controlling the drug trade is part of that fight. It is the general dishonesty, larceny and use of violent threats instead of consensus and persuasion that make Afghanistan such a hellish place and allow the drug gangs to thrive.
...Low education levels, and a general lack of large organizations, means Afghanistan simply doesn't have enough people to effectively operate a national government and all the large bureaucracies that includes. This is a problem that is not quickly overcome since you cannot govern Afghanistan with a lot of foreign bureaucrats (even if you just call them "advisors"). Afghans are very touchy about that sort of thing. Afghans may be poor and ill-educated, but they are also proud, heavily armed and short-tempered. So all that foreign aid is easier to steal (for your family and tribe) than to spend efficiently for the common good.
The Hows and Whys of Heroin Addiction
On the other hand, for many people who experiment with heroin they are underwhelmed (not including IV usage, but most experimenters rarely ever IV first time). They just feel good, chill, happy, but they feel like this spooky drug 'heroin' hasn't delivered. They are just mellow. Oh obviously it has all been a lie they will think. Heroin isn't spooky, it's chill. It's not addictive like everyone else thinks. It doesn't make you do stupid shit or stay up all day and hallucinate like amphetamines or coke. It doesn't empty your serotonin like MDMA or give you a hangover like alcohol. People tend to just think oh, what a nice drug.
So the next day they wake up and everything is normal. No headache or shitty feeling-just a slight afterglow of that nice feeling. Oh it was cheap as well! It only cost $10 for a whole night of being high! I thought people said heroin was expensive? And then next weekend comes. There are all these drugs I could do but I liked heroin. It didn't 'fuck me up,' I could still think clearly. No hangover. No feeling like shit later. I still was awake. It just made me happy and content with life. Oh and it's only $10! Well, I should get some more for the whole weekend. This is great! I will use Heroin on the weekends now!

Speaking of Redford, as I am on a roll, in college, as a coed in SLC, I was on 7th East at a Firestone place getting air in my bicycle tire, as, duh, did not know how, and it did not occur to me to have a pump with the bike.. I was reading a paper waiting on the poor guy to do this...when this hot little red sports car speeds up and the driver comes in to the garage to use their pay phone. It was stupid Redford, who was about 6" shorter than me. He looked at me, like, run away! She is going to recognize and mob me because I am so gawgus! I looked at him alright and thought: a) short, and b) needs to have that triangle of moles cut off face. Then he ran off in a rush. I think he was calling a lover pre-cell phone and texts. You see how difficult it used to be to cheat on wife?

We had a Chinese group over for dinner a few times when my daughter worked at MacDs. They came here on work visas for 6 months, which I support in theory as it gives them contact with our way of life and vice versa.
They were very pleasant and polite, with the exception of the time I raised the issue of Taiwan with the male, an engineering student. He made it very clear that Taiwan belonged to the Chinese and they would have it back, one way or another. And that America should butt out.

You know what's more entertaining than that? Assuring a Turkish person that yes, the Armenian Genocide really did happen.
I had that conversation once with a very lovely young Turkish woman once who said quite bluntly that there was no proof of the Genocide took place.
I asked her where all those mass graves came from then. Silence.
Funny thing is I met her at CT College Republicans thing and she was dating the state president of the College Republicans. I guess it wasn't for her brains though.

Let's just say you are injured on the job at a hospital in Dever...you tripped over the wires in ICU and did a face plant and broke your nose, which was not stuffed with cocaine, but you will need plastic surgery to fix. Many jobs require workman's comp who drug screen when you arrive. Or, random drug screens just because. Prior to this, in some companies, THC would bring the end of a job after an injury, as, duh, they don't want to pay for some pot-head's injuries, as "stoned on job" from party night before watching Broncos. But now legal in states, and everyone is being laid off anyway in workforce due to Obamacare, so just grow your own pot and chill? It is a mad, mad world we live in.

You can go to them first for any problem and they provide everything from marriage counseling to financial advice to drug treatment programs. I don't know if firing is automatic upon a test ding.
Posted by: Meremortal at February 05, 2014 10:35 PM (1Y+hH)
I only speak from experience in a hospital (I was not injured but heard of people fired with drugs/booze in system with injury...and I have to agree with this policy as I don't want a pothead or druggie messing with me in hospital----as if C-diff and MRSA don't kill you, the druggie nurse might), but I am pretty sure they would not be pleased. I guess you would get their drug-free education or something, but did see some people fired if drugs were in system...as I think it was hospital policy (in addition for them not wanting to pay for your new nose you broke hung-over from Superbowl while saving lives in ICU). I am retired, thank you Lord, and do not know now, for three years. On that note I guess I will go untie husband in laundry room as he is the reason I could retire. Dang it. I hate having a conscious.

297 A blanket party is a form of corporal punishment or hazing conducted within a peer group, most frequently within the military or military academies. The victim (usually asleep in bed) is restrained by having a blanket flung over him and held down at the corners, while other members of the group strike him repeatedly with improvised flails, most often a sock or bath towel containing something solid, such as a bar of soap.

"Under" the cornfield is a more accurate way to put it.
Before that was a _Twilight Zone_ episode, it was one of the most unsettling short horror stories ever written, "It's A Good Life" by Jerome Bixby.
http://ciscohouston.com/docs/docs/greats/its_a_good_life.html
(I keep mentally attributing this to Richard Matheson, who also wrote a whole lot of similarly unsettling short stories, some of which became TV episodes. He passed away just last year.)

I feel this way about DC, but still go with husband when he goes and I spy on liberals in restaurants. He says now he won't stop me from messing with them as he has in past. I just like to rattle their cages a little bit as it shocks them that they are not universally loved. And I may be a redneck from Mississippi but I disguise myself really well (I should have my teen self as an avatar in my Daisy Dukes. I went to a family reunion that way, after the dressier festivities, and am shocked to see the photo now. Also in a micor-mini at a relative's wedding. I was the cake cutter and they put me behind a table toot sweet (my mother said she knew arguing with me about the dress was futile, but, lawd that dress was short). It is a very good thing I only had sons and did not have to argue with daughters as I would have not been as popular.

No, darlin', they were belles of the South and shopped in Jitney-Jungle in white gloves (no lie). Nor would they be caught dead in white shoes after Labor Day, or not eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. I have to say I follow tradition except for white gloves, and I may start that soon as I do wipe my cart, Sheldon-style, with those germ-killing wipes as snot-nosed children teeth on the handles and probably have bird flu.
I did mock the opposing team at a basketball tournament and got chased into the girl's bathroom with a few friends by a mean girl from a chicken plant town who had a knife. I stood on the toilet of the stall and would not come out. Does this count?

"Looks like the Somalis have enough #s now that they feel they should have more say in how Minneapolis is run. They appear to be primarying the little old scandi socialist lady who has the seat. And by primarying I mean having a little riot at the caucus meeting."
Why didn't the Scandis just take the Somalis out to the parking lot and show them their cars with "Tolerance" bumper sticks on them. Once the Somalis realized that Scandi socialists really appreciate diversity and multiculturalism, I'm sure they would have piped down.
Aren't those lefty bumper sticks and buttons and Che T-shirts acting as sort of secular versions of the St. Christopher medals Catholics used to have hanging from their rearview mirror? They proclaim the wearer's self-righteousness and goodness and keep them shielded from all harm.

Wow. Near as I can figure, that is sui generis to you. Unless you recall some episode that has slipped my mind. Which would not have been hard to have happen.
There were some creepy old-time TV episodes that did have to do with faces, including a Twilight Zone episode riffing on the then-new practice of plastic surgery ("Eye Of The Beholder").

They go through life thinking like little kids and they're amazed if they get mugged or robbed or screamed at.

I saw a barracks thief blanket partied in boot camp. His thing was wallets, the only thing of value any of us had in boot. They beat the hell out of that guy. Although I've no love for thieves, I took no part in it. Four or five men on one, with that one guy held fast, just didn't sit right. Besides, the guy was getting kicked out of the Army anyway, which seemed like a terrible enough punishment to me.
Several years later, I saw Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket' for the first time. I was tempted to change the channel when they did the blanket party scene where they whaled on fat, stupid and slow screw-up character played by Vincent D'Onofrio. Could barely bear to watch it.

100 bucks a week in weed would be considered light to moderate usage. Heavy usage would be much more, and none of them ever died from an overdose. Yet, somehow, she's the first recorded person in history to die from an overdose of cannabis? She wasn't even in Colorado or Washington?

I actually did on Monday. The guys were looking at me funny 'cause I kept referring to your email. The nice lady in the office tells me that they'll only run a charge card or charge to your commercial account for >$30, but dead-presidents-type cash they'd do for less. Then I went and disassembled the bottom of the mill to get the last of the shipping grease off, set the gibs properly, and lubricate the tables, and haven't gotten it back together yet.
I should point out that my garage is so crammed with crap that I actually have to stand outside the garage to run the mill, so nothing's going to happen until the rain passes through.

Ah ok, I have the Sieg SX3 (Grizzly re-brand), got it all rebuilt/set up but then ended up moving cross country and left it with my parents. Nowhere to set it up out here til I find a place with a garage... seems like a decent little mill once you tweak things.
I opted for the larger (SX3) since it uses R8 collets as opposed to the MT3, so figured if I eventually bought a Bridgeport or something I'd be able to use the same tooling. Planning on converting yours to CNC?

This one, I'm planning to go "CNC Lite" -- that is, motors spin the handles. I also have a small rotary table so I can do 4 axes. That'll give me a bunch of "proof of concept" stuff to where I can make informed decisions of how to go from there. I'm also planning on running essentially uncooled (or using occasional squirts of WD-40 or something) with this mill.

It was more than just someone plinking. They cut the phone lines first. All told, they were there for an hour, and then did manage to get out at just the right time. Instapundit linked to a WSJ piece on it. Here's the link to WSJ:

It's located in a pretty desolate area too. In the olden days it was smack dab next to the 101 blood alley. Now it's pretty much all by it's lonesome except for a tatoo parlor and fish and tackle.

cthulhu: Two things that I neglected to mention:
1. The "6-mic" / "cast plate" is a bit more expensive because the surfaces have been ground parallel to each other, and indeed are very parallel. They can be relied upon to be parallel for very many applications. The downsides, aside from cost, are that the surface is not as smooth as the 6061 bar, and, since the material is a casting, it is not as strong as 6061 and might have very small voids in it, The surfaces are very parallel, but they are not smooth. Sometimes, the not-very-smooth surface finish makes a difference.
2. Do you have / are you using the X-2 "rebuild" .PDF? My recollection is that you are. If not, check "ArcEuroTrade.co.uk". The manual will help a lot.

1. I believe you're referring to the stainless plate....on this go-round I just got a bunch of sacrificial aluminum. I want to get comfy moving things around and whittling them down first.
2. I believe I have seen such a thing, but I'm (knowingly) skipping over things in order to gain familiarity. As an example, I probably won't even tram the table before I turn $10 of aluminum into fluff.

They have at least 1 shelf where they dispose of 303 or 304 Stainless rounds. They are a darker gray, and much heaver for a given size.

No, this was definitely aluminum and was written up that way. I was just grabbing random pieces and piling them on the scale and I'd be thinking that I was getting the rhythm of it when one would be either much lighter or much heavier than I'd expect. Sometimes they felt that way in hand, and sometimes I'd be surprised when I put 'em on the scale. The worst offenders were a couple of items I'll probably feed to the lathe -- cylinders about 1-1/4 inches across and 5" long.

I didn't see this particular car, but a hot rod buddy of mine happened across someone who had taken a GNX drivetrain, and breathed on it (a lot) and put it in what looked for all the world like a bone-stock Buick Regal of the era, except for the extremely wide tires carefully tucked under the rear fenders.
The proverbial stoplight surprise.
This friend, who was no stranger to fast cars, said the thing was just frighteningly quick. As I recall his account, it didn't run on pump gas. Or would not do so at anything like its potential. A tank full of methanol.

I tell my neighbors to just drop their random metal crap at the foot of my driveway and I'll deal with it. The proverbial gold mine. Or copper mine. Amazing amounts of Cu pipe. Actually several of them have left easily repairable appliances that I have quickly and cheaply fixed and put back into service in our household. This occasionally leads to... _moments_.
(Torque quickly steps in front of the dishwasher. "Nice weather, eh?")
One morning there was a really hairy beater car there. I was fixing to fire up the cutting torch when its equally hairy owner came walking down the street and gave me the hairy eyeball, got in, started up the car and drove away. If he had gotten there ten minutes later things would have been VERY awkward. Oh hai!)

I just love deviled eggs. And potato salad. American classics.
They are, however, also pretty classic vectors for foodborne illness. Especially at outdoor picnics in the hot sun where they typically sit around unrefrigerated for a long while.
It's a good idea to serve them in covered dishes sitting in a bed of ice rather than allowing them to sit around open and warm and breeding bugs.

Re: XX
Violations of right of medical privacy and refusal to pay witness fee
To the respective enforcement agencies:
I represent X, a Z county schoolteacher. Because we are friends, I am taking this action on her behalf to seek redress for violations of her rights committed by her former doctor and the doctorÂ’s lawyers. In short, Ms. XÂ’s deposition was taken as a third party witness in a lawsuit. At the deposition, the lawyer produced a copy of Ms. XÂ’s medical intake sheet and questioned her about it without ever having subpoenaÂ’d the record, and without complying with the mandatory consumer records notice obligation. To add insult to injury, the lawyers then refused to pay her the mandatory witness fee upon the conclusion of the deposition. Despite further follow-up by Ms. X, the lawyers still refuse to tender the mandatory fee.
In 2010, Ms. X saw Dr. Y for a dermatology issue. She filled out an intake form, as doctors routinely require, and provided Dr. Y with confidential medical information. In 2011, Dr. Y treated Ms. XÂ’s elderly father (who has since passed away). On one occasion, on a very hot day, there were no seats available and Dr. YÂ’s office refused to assist Ms. XÂ’s father who was then forced to wait in her car. As a result, in 2011, Ms. X wrote a scathing (albeit accurate) review of Dr. Y on Yelp.
Dr. Y alleges in his lawsuit that around October 4, 2012, someone vandalized his office. He retained the Law Office of W, to sue the perpetrator. They filed Y v. Doe, referenced above. On November 18, 2013, Mr. W served Ms. X with a deposition subpoena for her personal appearance only (and, for some reason, as a non-human entity which I advised her to ignore as a typo and to just get the deposition over with). To be clear: Y was completely entitled to take Ms. X’s deposition under the circumstances – even though innocent, she may have information that might assist the prosecution of the case. That is not the problem. The problems are: 1) Dr. Y violated Ms. X’s medical privacy rights by releasing her personal information without her consent; 2) Mr. W violated Ms. X’s medical privacy rights by failing to subpoena her record and not complying with the consumer notice obligation which would have enabled her to obtain a protective order; and 3) Mr. W continues to refuse to pay her the deposition fee to which she is entitled by statute.
There is no justification for either the doctor’s or the lawyers’ conduct, which has caused Ms. X a great deal of angst. While the deposition fee may be more a matter of principle (though she is not waiving her right to it), frankly I am concerned that Dr. Y and his lawyers have similarly violated other patients’ medical privacy rights in their search for Jane Doe. If the matter were local to me, I would be looking into suits under Business & Professions Code § 17200. Since that is not feasible at the moment, Ms. X expects that the respective professional licensing bodies will investigate the matter and discipline the wrongful actors. I look forward to hearing from you regarding this violation of statutory obligations and professional ethics.
Sincerely,

"... part off work on a lathe"
Usually, when parting off on a lathe, the tailstock is not used, so the end is free and the part will drop straight down.
At least one of the commenters (as indicated by the group e-mails) actually owns a machine shop, and might indicate the various cases where this is not so.

You'll note that I already have figured the risk of being tentative. If you know what you're doing and are working speedily, I can see it totally not being an issue...but if you're turning and looking something up, and parting and checking, and looking for a glove and parting, and moving the slide.....there may come a time when the stem of the mushroom is too thin to support the top of the mushroom, and it sags over -- and then it's off balance and can get a good fling going. It may well be that gyroscopic force will keep that from happening.....I just don't know.

That makes all kinds of sense.....but I'm reading all this machinist stuff where they skip that part. It's exactly why I raised the question in the first place. I mean, there might be some fillip where you don't need to do that, but I'm not seeing how I could even give that a try without taking a risk.....and if I've got machines taking that sort of risk, I want to understand it at least well enough to keep my body parts out of the way.

Even having it set in a live center tail stock would still leave you with the piece fall off as the stock is secured by the chuck at only one end.
It might be possible to have a chuck on a spindle secured to the tail stock but that's got to be a very specialized situation. I'm no master machinist but I can't think of any reason to do that. It would be expensive and leave little room for material between the two chucks.
Remember, you're only going to face the end of the piece. Once you've detached that from the stock, you should not do any machining of the length as there will be slight differences that may cause problems. (only if your setup is old and the bearings are out should that cause enough difference to be noticeable)
Cut your stock as close to the chuck as possible so you won't exert any movement when cutting. (you do know you can cut with a hack saw while the lathe is turning? That will keep your cut even all the way around and fairly straight. Just be careful of the moving chuck and as you said use a pile of shop rags to catch the piece whether you run the lathe and cut or just cut or not.)

Lathes are easier but you should check that the bed and the head stock/tail stock are parallel and on center. And the head and tail stocks are concentric. Bad ju ju if they ain't.

Boo! Booooo!
And on a more serious note -- I've been to Puerto Rico, and I've worked with a bunch of people from China.....and if you're doing one-size-fits-all racist "jokes" about either place, you are displaying some serious ignorance.
I'll tell you a couple of stories from Puerto Rico that are actually true, funny, and not based on race. We stopped off in a shopping mall near Fajardo that had a pizza place, and went in for some grub. There was this big sign on the wall that had three lines.....the first said "Pizza pie con queso" with a price -- and the BH and I looked at each other and thought, "what language is this???"
The next line said, "with one item" and another price -- and we looked at each other and thought, "ok, English, we're good....." The third line said, "con todos" with another price.
As further evidence that they have no idea what the hell they're speaking, we circled around east end of the island and stopped off at a roadside McDonalds on the way to Ponce. Noting that everyone was chattering away in Spanish, I painstakingly composed my order while I was standing in line....."dos hamburguesas con queso, con solo carne, queso, y pan." One at a time, people ordered in Spanish, the counterperson punched it in, they stood to the side, we advanced, and I'd recite my order under my breath so that I could deliver it smoothly when I got there.
Finally, it was my turn, and I did -- in fact -- smoothly state "dos hamburguesas con queso, con solo carne, queso, y pan." Whereupon the counterperson turned and shouted over her shoulder, "TWO CHEESEBURGERS, PLAIN", turned back to me, and blurted out some indecipherable numeric stuff in Spanish that I totally didn't catch. I gave her singles until she started doing something that indicated she didn't expect more.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm finding. There's a lot of stuff about optimization and precision before there's a lot of stuff about safety (my fave!) and basic operations. If I had my druthers, I'd have a textbook that started out with "here's how you don't hurt yourself" and a bunch of "what you can do" things, then had chapter breaks for "we've eyeballed previously, next, we'll get within 1/8 inch"; "1/8 is fine until you want two pieces to match -- let's talk 1/32"; and "squeak it -- how to max the precision of your mill" -- along with "how long did that exercise take you? -- here's a tip to double your speed", "would it surprise you that a master machinist could do that in four minutes? here's a couple of speed boosters" and "if that took you more than 20 minutes, watch this master machinist show you the proper approach and execution."

The faster you move the work or the tool, the rougher the finish.
The direction you move the work or the tool will also make a rougher or smoother finish.
the higher the speed or the slower the feed or the shallower the cut the smoother the finish.
The harder the material the more cutting surfaces are needed for the tool.
The larger the material, the larger the tool needed
Best practice: quick and fast for roughing, slow and steady for final and the closer to the dimension you want the less you want to take off at a time.
Measure once, twice, thrice and catorce and cut verrrry verry carefully once.
Sometimes cutting oil/fluid can be harmful or vary your finish/cut and ruin what you're doing. Use the right fluids for the metal.
Sharp tools are safer, Keep your hands away from spinning tools/work.
DON'T WEAR TIES, LONG HAIR, FLOPPY SHIRTS, LONG SLEEVES
Don't allow distractions. Stop if someone wants to talk.
DO WEAR GLASSES, APRON. Have med kit at hand (1" band aids are my favorite. The ones that make a form fitting and air tight wrap.)
Wait till the machine stops to do any thing with the bit/chuck/work. (that contradicts what I said about hack sawing but that's life.)

I've seen you around, and don't think you're a troll....but we just had a troll explosion that yanked a post -- which is a pretty rare event. We are ALWAYS going to get the ass end of RACISM! RACISM! RACISM! claims from the media, despite the fact that Republicans freed the slaves, Democrats opposed Civil Rights legislation, the NRA has always been a civil rights organization that was historically beloved by African-Americans,and Martin Luther King was a Republican -- or, in other words, that racism is part of the Democratic DNA and Republicans have been trying since 1861 to rise above it.
And that means that we have to be extra vigilant about appearing racist....and, like "microaggression", that means that we have to be smart. "Driving While Asian" or "Driving While Oriental" is not smart. You want to say something about it and be both funny and smart? Find a young Vietnamese NASCAR driver saying, "I would have been here earlier, but it took me a while to unlearn my mom's driving lessons."
There is much to love and appreciate among all peoples, and just as sure as eggs is eggs, much to mock as well. The humorless scolds of the Politically Correct would dearly cut us off from each other in order to set group against group -- but per Alinsky's #5, it is also their vulnerability.
If you spend 10 months a year in China, what jokes do the chicken-eaters in the interior have about the fish-eaters on the coast? Is everything boiled to goo in the North, just like everything is spiced so much it could be beans, chicken, or turds in the south? What jokes are made of Peking that can be humorously contrasted to Washington, DC? You cannot say one group of Americans are racist against Chinese if they're laughing at the same things that 80% of other Chinese laugh at.
I do have a sense of humor, and I even sometimes find that some of the coarser plays to stereotypes are funny (while understanding that the stereotypes are overbroad -- not all Democrats are pederasts, for instance). But doing standup based on the broadest of stereotypes isn't great, and doing it when a post got nuked is less than that.
And if we're ever face-to-face at some event. I hope I can buy you a beer.

I have nothing to say to ease that burden.
The honorable serve the dishonorable till there is naught left to give.

Please say a prayer for a man who served 24 years in Infantry. Tried retire since 2010 when he was blown up in Astan. Denied medical standing...l just cuz. Tried to get a Congressional, got one for 6 months, but our GA fucks stopped caring after that. He's now without pain. Be well. MS Rich....DAMNIT! I'm so sorry.

Yeah, we can see how subtle and understated Nolan is. She might wish to consider “something more subtle” when it comes to her eyeliner.

I appreciate the advice....especially the advice about tubing/pipe. I hadn't thought of it before, but it makes sense that it would be particularly hazardous.
And I'm not trying to make the ONT into a machining thread.....random stuff is just bubbling to the surface and I'm always curious.
And now I'm going to flip things around. I'm a 51-year-old CPA who has lived and worked in Silicon Valley since 1986. I've done tax, CPA audit, internal audit, controller, consulting....and AOP says, "The work is not going to be spinning very fast." The speed that the work is spinning depends on a dial that I can turn....why wouldn't it be very fast? Perhaps it wouldn't be if anyone competent were involved....but....*waves*.

This is about the time comments usually thin out anyway, excepting weekends where it might go another hour or so.

When I can't take a moment to think, "damn" at the loss of such a man, I'd better be literally on fire. Bring it, share it.
RIP, MS Rich.

Chi and I were talking about things and your name came up earlier today. Is there a way to get emails to you?

NO!
Thank you, MWNP. Such great men live among us, yet we hardly know except when they pass. Thank you for letting us give at least a moment of remembrance....and keep to the good fight of taking care of them while they're still with us. Thanks to them for putting themselves in harm's way on our behalf. We deserve no thanks at all for just being awake....no matter how few we might be.
