CBO Nearly Triples Estimate of Work Hours Lost Due to Obamacare

[CBO cited] new estimates that the Affordable Care Act will cause a larger than-expected reduction in working hours - eliminating the equivalent of about 2.3 million workers in 2021 versus a previous estimate of an 800,000 decline.

If only someone could've cut through this manure beforehand, but we had to pass the law to find out what was in it. Or so I'm told. Of course, we all know what was in it ...

Yes. CBO scoring is made from what the laws are at the present, not future estimates or future laws.

Remember- single payer is what they *want*. BCBS of Illinois, New Mexico, Montana, Oklahoma, and Texas are Not For Profit Member Owned health insurance companies. It is important to remember that the Blue Cross Blue Shield name on a corporation means that it is a member of the BCBS Association and as such has agreed to those principles and operating practices--conceptually, it's like a franchise. It also facilitates getting care from another Blue when traveling, etc.

True story: my late Stepfather was a Humphrey delegate at the 1968 Chicago Democratic Party convention. Each of the states had an area cordoned off for delegate use, a place where people could grab some coffee or smoke a cigarette or hang out, so all of the Indiana delegates were more or less taking a break when some big Indiana furniture magnate shows up, looking for Indiana Senator Birch Bayh (father of later Governor then Senator Evan Bayh).

The furniture tycoon was a big donor to Democratic candidates and incumbents in Indiana, and he was furious, demanding to see Senator Bayh for one reason or another. His exact words were (according to my Stepfather), "I bought him, I paid for him, and damnit I want to see him right now. Get him here."

That's when my Stepfather saw Birch Bayh, a United States Senator, run into the delegate's break area--not walk, not walk briskly, but run--nearly at a sprint--to curry to the needs--whatever they were--of a major political donor.

My Stepfather switched parties later in life and became a Republican. In hindsight, I should've told him not to bother.

A few states have tried to create a "super-Medicaid" of sorts that would lead towards universal coverage. But from what I know, every one of those has more or less crashed and burned. Actually the current trend is to hire companies to shuffle people off Medicaid onto SSDI (which is a pure federal program, not joint/state fed) which helps states control their budget (since lots of states require balanced budgets.)

321 Speaking of Zombies chasing people, I have a question for game/comic book fans. I was on YouTube and found what looked to be an animated Batman I'd never seen. Couple hours long. It turned out to be Batman Markham Origins "With Game play". I had no idea what that meant. I started, and kind of liked, it, but I'm not sure what I was watching. Game instructions occasionally appear, boss battle power bars appear, etc. as a Batman movie unfolds. So, how did someone make that? Get awesome at the game, so he could just blast through levels with no setbacks, keeping the story perfectly linear, and the dialogue sensical? That's pretty cool.

Single Payer: Once it is in and staffed with the appropriate people, they effectively control this population cradle to grave.

Reserves held by health insurance companies: Literally billions and billions of real dollars, not funny money, real money. HICs are required to have liquid reserves that will cover a full one year's maximum payout per subscriber. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears goes into calculating that amount each year in order to account for such variables as flu, pneumonia, etc. It is usually around 1.5 to 2 million per head. So they must maintain billions to cover all the people they insure. If and when they seize and nationalize the HICs, some of that money will stick to the correct grubby little paws.

I told him the Joe Boxers he likes are $12 each at Kmart & to ask his son to buy him some. I spent nearly $100 on four pairs of pants for him. We have a president who virtually everyone acknowledges is increasingly lawless and not only threatening but actually doing things by going around congress. Remember the Dream Act? Dems have nothing to run on this year. Nada. Not the economy, not Obamacare, not even foreign policy which is threatening to explode and even Kerry is admitting is a failure. But they have to run on something. So they will go back to their tried and true bashing Republicans for a war on women and having no plan for illegal immigration. They have been doing this for years and doing it successfully. Republicans have been countering by increasingly putting women out front, McMorris and Ros-Lehtinen both gave SOTU responses and there will be more of this stuff and beginning a discussion on immigration reform which everyone knows needs to be tackled. Just screaming enforce the law has not worked and will not work with a president who picks and chooses which laws he will enforce and has been notably not enforcing immigration law. So the Republican put out a statement of principles, not a bill, that talks about border and interior enforcement that can only been attested to by people outside the Obama administration with no pathway to citizenship, something the left absolutely demands, and thats all they have done. It prevents the left from saying that Republicans have no ideas and hopefully it also keeps Obama from acting unilaterally which he has threatened repeatedly. And anyone who has been paying attention to this issue knows that the House has been holding hearings on illegal immigration for over a year, many chaired by Gowdy. This is not a new issue, its one the msm is trying to stir up angst on the right. If you saw Ryan on the tube on Sunday he said he doubted that there would be a bill this year, largely because Republicans don't trust Obama to obey the law. This is a theme that keeps getting hammered and its a good one. Put the blame for no reform right back on Obama. Look at both of their websites, there leadership, mission statements, etc. are all there to read. Then read National Beverage Company's website, which is the parent company of Shasta/Faygo. The first thing you notice is the American Flag on the home page. I know which company I'll support.
