Karl Rove Disputes Ohio Call
— Ace

Updated: Rove says it's too close to call in Ohio.

Fox is bringing in someone from the Decision Desk to explain the call.

Original post follows.

FoxNews just called Ohio for Obama.

And with that, he's over 270.

A hurricane. I can't believe it. A hurricane a week before an election, in which the president doesn't do anything but place a few phone calls and get his picture taken with a fat baby who's in love with Bruce Springsteen, swings the most important election of our time.

Such is life.

Karl Rove: It Ain't Over Yet
— Ace

He makes a good case for Ohio, but Florida is looking kind of bad.

Still. It's actually not over.

My 348 Electoral vote prediction? Yeah, I was wayyyy off.

Update: Karl Rove and Joe Trippi agree: Romney still has a narrow path -- requiring some breaks -- and they can win the whole election.

Update: We were finally called as winning North Carolina.

Florida and Ohio.

Election Night Liveblog
— andy

Good evening morons, moronettes and assorted Internet folk. This, right here, is what we've been waiting for since we sat forlornly looking at the el-cheapo, pre-broken plastic skittles-shitting unicorn we got in November 2008 thanks to the 53% idiots being suckered by those commercials that made it look all cool and stuff.

No more! At worst, the SCOAMF/T limps across the goal line having run out the clock with a big assist from the replacement refs in the MFM. But the only mandate he'll have will be Reggie Love.

And, of course, there's the upside case. We may just have us a new President-elect. I doubt he'll surround himself with the trappings of the titular office like you-know-who did.

We'll know shortly, Lord willing.

In honor of the momentousness of this occasion, the old liveblog software has been brought out of retirement. Or, rather, bought out. It better not suck.

Also, in addition to the usual liveblog cast of characters, CAC's AoSHQ Decision Desk tweets will also appear in the chat stream, so you'll simultaneously be the most entertained and informed people on the planet as the results roll in.

Remember, comments are moderated so be funny, insightful or bribe the mods if you want them to make the cut. And of course we'll play favorites as usual so there's that (apologies in advance to Wiserbud).

Enough blabbing. Let's do this thing! more...

Ignore FoxNews' Call-- Wisconsin Is Still Too Close To Call
— Ace

Both CAC and now Patrick Ruffini are talking about strong numbers for Romney/Ryan there.

Just throwing that out there. The Decision Desk is keeping Wisconsin uncalled.

Meanwhile... Tammy Baldwin defeats Tommy Thompson for Senator from Wisconsin. (But then, CAC throws a caution flag on these Wisconsin calls.)

Another Guy... whose opinion I trust, @therickwilson, says Wisconsin is simply not won yet.

By the way, CNN hasn't called it yet. Fox seems to be calling things early to be first.

Some Good News: Both Romney and Obama Camps Expect Romney to Carry Florida
— Ace

So, there's that.

And I think we'll carry VA and NC, too.

Now, it's all going to come down to Ohio. Here's the problem: It's looking like the polls were reasonably correct. If the polls were reasonably correct, then Obama's got something like a 2% lead in Ohio. To overcome that, we'd need stronger-than-we-were-expecting numbers.

So, at this point, I don't think I'm letting out any secrets when I say we're not favored to win this.

It's still possible. I think the troika of FL, VA, and NC go our way. And then we see what's going on in Ohio.

Oh, and then we'd still need one more of these: Iowa, Colorado, New Hampshire.

A little more bad news: Richard Mourdock has lost to Joe Donnelly for Indiana senate. That's a turnover in favor of the Democrats.

Pennsylvania Called For Obama
Wisconsin for Obama, Too

— Ace

Geeze Louise.

The Decision Desk is filling states in.

Oh, everyone's calling the House to remain in Republican hands. So, there's that.

Bob Casey (D) Holds Senate Seat in PA, Defeats Tom Smith
Obama Wins Michigan, Immediately Upon Closing of Polls

— Ace

Oy.

Obama wins Michigan, right out of the box, right as the polls close. That means, of course, it was not close.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Colorado are too close to call.

Romney of course takes Texas and Louisiana and Kansas and the Dakotas and Wyoming. Obviously, this is just the Republican base. And 4 of the 5 EV's in Nebraska.

And the Decision Desk is still running. Once again, light colors merely indicate who has the edge in tabulated votes. It does not predict a winner. Only dark colors do that.

I didn't see this... but on Twitter, some are claiming that Warren is projected to beat Brown.

Some decent news: Chatter is that Obama expects to lose Florida. Further, key north Virginia precincts which delivered the state to Obama are giving Obama less votes. For example, Louden county was Obama +8 in 2008; now it's even.

Assuming we take these states -- and oh God, the waiting is awful -- it will come down, as expected, to either Ohio, or Wisconsin and some combination of Colorado, Iowa, and/or New Hampshire.

By the way: In years past, the networks have always called Democratic states very early, and Republican states quite late. This really isn't out of the normal.

Romney Wins Tennessee; No Call Yet On Any Of the Tightly Contested States
Karl Rove Thinks FL, VA, and Even OH Look Strong for Romney

— Ace

Sorry, there's just not a lot of calls being made.

Interestingly, with 18% in, Romney's leading Virginia with 57%. But you never know which precincts are counted there.

Mourdock's a bit behind in Indiana Senate. Allen's a bit ahead for Virginia. Akin's up in Missouri.

Early, though. We have no idea if these numbers represent Democrat or Republican counties.

This could be a long night. Hopefully, only long in duration.

Update: Rove thinks specific polling from specific Virginia precincts show good trend for Romney.

Actually, Rove now also thinks Romney will win Florida (early vote now counted, rest of the sailing should be smooth) and pointed to bad turnout in Cuyhoga, and strong turnout in the neighboring Republican counties, to suggest Ohio's looking good for Romney.

Meanwhile the Decision Desk continues.

Please note that light colors on that map are not predictive at all -- they are simply an indicator of who is ahead in current vote tallies. As you never know which precincts have been counted yet, light colors really mean nothing at all. Only the dark colors indicate a call.
