Overnight Open Thread (2 Nov 2012)

Oh this is nice. Why Was There No October Surprise? Because Every Freakin' Day For The Last Four Years Has Been An October Surprise!

But in Barack ObamaÂ’s case, the situation is reversed: Everything heÂ’s ever done is scandalous. The reason there was no October Surprise for Obama is that weÂ’re all scandaled out. AnyoneÂ’s who been paying attention since 2008 has literally been in paralytic shock every single day. We spent October 2012 exactly as weÂ’ve spent every month of the last four years: Our jaws on the floor, aghast, stupefied, unable to breathe. Almost every single thing Obama has done since heÂ’s been in the national spotlight could have been and should have been a career-ending October Surprise. But the mainstream media, as we all know, has devoted itself to protecting him.

Not a day has gone by since Obama took office when I didnÂ’t learn of some fresh outrage and say Oh. My. God. But weÂ’ve been traumatized so often that over time the scandals have all blurred together and fused into a single red-hot thought: Please let this nightmare end.

uninstall

Homemade Vanilla Pudding.

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon butter

In medium saucepan over medium heat, heat milk until bubbles form at edges. In a bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Pour into hot milk, a little at a time, stirring to dissolve. Continue to cook and stir until mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a metal spoon. Do not boil. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and butter. Pour into serving dishes. Chill before serving dipping.

Might want to stock up on the Valu-Rite, too.

Obama Throws Democratic Congressmen Under The Bus; Urges Voters To Vote For Anyone -- Republican, Democrat, or Independent -- So Long as They Vote Against "Gridlock"
— Ace

He's perceived, I guess this means, as partisan, and so he's running from that. He doesn't feel safe if he agitates for Democratic Congressmen. He has to pretend to be "bipartisan."

Vote for Me. In downballot races, vote for people who will work with me. Even if they're Republicans.

Just vote for me.

Just vote for me.

JUST VOTE FOR MEEEEEEEE!!!

“I’ve said I will work with anybody of any party to move this country forward,” President Obama told a crowd of 2,800 this morning in Hilliard, Ohio. “If you want to break the gridlock in Congress, you’ll vote for leaders who feel the same way whether they’re Democrat, Republican or independent.”

Congressional Democrats? Pshah, who needs them.

Just vote for me, babies.

Of course, this may be because a Democratic House is looking like a lost cause. And Republicans might even gain seats.

How can Republicans gain seats in the House but lose the national election?

Democratic Congressmen's Mouths

What, you guys thought you were getting a free pass? No way, babies. Obama's got something for you, too. Coming from the loins, babies.

Axelrod: Obama's Speeches Now "Coming From His Loins"
— Ace

So I've been saying.

“You can see in the speech that he’s delivering — that he, that this is coming from his loins,” Axelrod declared, adding, “I just wanted to say loins. I wanted to see if I could get loins in the story.”

Barone: Romney Wins 315 EVs; Takes PA, WI, and OH
— Ace

On those three...

Ohio (1 . The anti-Romney auto bailout ads have Obama running well enough among blue-collar voters for him to lead most polls. But many polls anticipate a more Democratic electorate than in 2008. Early voting tells another story, and so does the registration decline in Cleveland's Cuyahoga County. In 2004, intensity among rural, small -town and evangelical voters, undetected by political reporters who don't mix in such circles, produced a narrow Bush victory. I see that happening again. Romney. [The Night of the Living Dead scenario. -- ace]

...

Pennsylvania (20). Everyone would have picked Obama two weeks ago. I think higher turnout in pro-coal Western Pennsylvania and higher Republican percentages in the Philadelphia suburbs could produce a surprise. The Romney team evidently thinks so too. Their investment in TV time is too expensive to be a mere feint, and, as this is written, Romney is planning a Sunday event in Bucks County outside Philly. Wobbling on my limb, Romney.

...

Wisconsin (10). Recent polling is discouraging for Republicans. But Gov. Scott Walker handily survived the recall effort in June with a great organizational push. Democrats depend heavily on margins in inner-city Milwaukee (population down) and the Madison university community. But early voting is down in university towns in other states. The Obama campaign is prepared to turn out a big student vote, but you don't see many Obama signs on campuses. Romney.

He also thinks Romney wins NH based on greater GOP enthusiasm. Tied polls, more or less.

316? Barone doesn't mention ME-2 at all. I imagine that if New Hampshire goes Romney, so will Maine's conservative district, giving him one extra EV.

I haven't felt this optimistic since Jimmy Carter was up for reelection and I pulled into the school parking lot and saw EVERY ONE of my neighbors in line.
