Nancy Hurlburt, the Democratic Party Chair for Lake County, said she would research the issue but didnÂ’t take the Obama flag down immediately, prompting Van Beck to declare that they would take the flag down for her.

“No, you will not. This is private property,” Hurlbert responded.

Ironic, that she would talk of private property and rights while standing beneath this abomination of a flag.

She eventually relented.

You can thank George Herbert Walker Bush for the Americans with Disabilities Act. Recall that Bush was the "kinder, gentler" president. In other words, he allowed Democrats to define conservatism negatively, as something harsh that needed fixing. In his view, government is only benevolent. All that small government stuff Regan talked about--you, know, the coattails Bush rode in on? Well, Bush knew better than that.

A lot of good that did him. The fact is, Reagan was the nice man. Bush was filled with arrogance.

So for the last twenty years, small business has been a paying the price for Bush's hubris. Businesses have been burdened with trying to stay in compliance with onerous, one-size-fits-all federal legislation--regardless of whether there was the money to do so.

The ADA contains no "grandfathering clause" for older properties, for example. Grandfathering is left up to local building codes, and since most municipalities have adopted the BOCA building code, moderate levels of building renovation mean the property must be brought into compliance. And if you don't, it's a civil rights lawsuit. George Herbert Walker Bush.

You know that old building you thought you'd rehab, maybe start a little business in with your shoestring budget? Forget it. Think about that the next time you find yourself wondering about an empty, older property that seems like it ought to be a prime location for a business. That's why it's vacant.

Now public pools must have wheelchair lifts. Because, hey, all pool owners are just stuffed to the gills with cash, aren't they? If you own a little apartment block with a pool and you're barely making ends meet, well, tough luck. Now you have something else to pay for. And pool regulations are never covered by grandfathering exemptions.

In September 2010, the DOJ issued guidelines for "recreational facilities," including a new rule that all public access swimming pools must provide a lift capable of moving disabled patrons from their wheelchairs into the water.

On Jan. 31 of this year, DOJ granted the industry's call for a clarification: But it was not the answer they wanted. All 300,000 public pools in the United States must install a permanent fixed lift. The deadline for compliance is tomorrow, March 15. Call it "Poolmageddon."

They say it's anti-semetic, racist, and homophobic.

I think their main complaint is that it's anti-Islamic, though. The rest are tossed on as window-dressing.

So now we'll have to ban it, or something.

Dante's Divine Comedy should be banned from schools as a racist and Islamophobic text rather than esteemed as one of the greatest achievements of Western poetry, according to a human rights organization that acts as a consultant for the United Nations.

"We do not advocate censorship or the burning of books, but we would like it acknowledged, clearly and unambiguously, that in the Divine Comedy there is racist, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic content," said Valentina Sereni, president of Gherush92, according to the Telegraph. "The Prophet Mohammed was subjected to a horrific punishment – his body was split from end to end so that his entrails dangled out, an image that offends Islamic culture," Sereni also said.

Incidentally, this movie is part of a broader effort to "to develop "an 'International Convention for the Protection of Cultural Diversity,' as the fundamental legal instrument in the battle against racism."

And also incidentally, a gay leader called this political correctness run amok.

Another rape that, per Keith Olbermann, is understandable. Even necessary, in a way.

A member of the Occupy New Haven movement was raped in a tent at the Occupy camp late on Monday night or early Tuesday morning, police said.

Police responded to the camp at 3:25 p.m. The victim was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital and police charged England Gamble, 53, of New Haven, with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint.

Members of the Occupy movement said neither Gamble nor the victim are members of the movement. They said both are homeless and set up a tent nearby.

Note that there's some clown-nose on, clown-nose off going on here. When it's useful, the 99% claims everyone in the 99%.

But when someone gets raped, Occupy starts getting very exclusive about who is part of the "movement."

We didn't see this article when Obama's numbers touched 50% for the first time in years.

Nor did we see it when Obama won the election.

But now? Well, if Obama's numbers have fallen precipitously, it must be time for liberals to explain to other liberals that the public is stupid.

Voters are appalled at President Barack ObamaÂ’s handling of gas prices, even though virtually every policy expert in both parties says thereÂ’s little a president can do to affect the day-to-day price of fuel in a global market.

Perhaps the stupid voters remember a "policy expert" named Barack Obama, who they were assured was a rara avis expert in all things, slamming George W. Bush for gas prices in 2008.

And perhaps they remember the press not contradicting him, but in fact running a lot of stories linking high gas prices to Bush policies.

Perhaps they're not stupid -- or at least not as stupid as the media-liberal complex requires them to be.

In any event, the public knows that there are a series of supply-boosting steps Obama vetoes.

Despite what "virtually every policy expert" may say.

By the way, I know a lot of "policy experts" who do in fact charge that Obama's supply-limiting policies are driving up the price of gas.

I guess Alexander Burns doesn't have their emails.

If he shoots me an email, I could put him in touch.

I can't expect him to do his job for himself.

Add up that litany of contradictory, irrational or simply silly opinions, and itÂ’s enough to make a political professional suspect the electorate is, well, not entirely sophisticated about the choices itÂ’s facing in 2012.

“The first lesson you learn as a pollster is that people are stupid,” said Tom Jensen of Public Policy Polling, a Democratic polling firm. “I tell a client trying to make sense of numbers on a poll that are inherently contradictory that at least once a week.”

Jensen, a Democrat, pointed to surveys showing that voters embraced individual elements of the Affordable Care Act, while rejecting the overall law, as an example of the political schizophrenia or simple ignorance that pollsters and politicians must contend with.

As I have explained to these baffled "policy experts" six million times, I may like a lot of features on the new Mustang Boss 302, but that doesn't mean I'm willing to purchase it.

In the real world, policies have costs. Liberals never seem to understand this. While I may like the notion that no one should be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition -- in the same way I like the notion of Tolkein's Middle Earth -- that does not mean I want to create a death-spiral effect wherein no one has to purchase insurance until they need it.

Nor do I wish to spend $1.76 trillion on this boondoggle.

Liberals -- "policy experts" to a man -- never seem to grasp that I might not turn my nose at something if it's stone-cold free, but will balk if I'm asked to pay for it.

And yes I know they claim all these things are "free." I am, unfortunately, not stupid enough to believe in foolish things.

“We’re seeing that kind of thing more and more. I think it’s a function of increased political polarization and voters just digging in their heels and refusing to consider the opposing facts once they’ve formed an opinion about something,” said Jensen, who has generated eye-catching data showing many GOP primary voters still question the president’s religion and nationality. “I also think voters are showing a tendency to turn issues that should be factual or non-factual into opinions. If you show a Tennessee birther Obama’s birth certificate, they’re just going to say ‘well in my opinion he’s not a real American.’ It’s not about the birth certificate; it’s about expressing hatred for Obama in any form they can.”

I guess Alexander Burns does not know the name of a single Republican who can explain these inexplicable beliefs to him.

But irrationality on policy issues transcends party lines and cuts across groups that feel differently about the president... the contest has been more like a game of Marco Polo, as a hapless gang of Republican candidates and a damaged, frantic incumbent try to connect with a historically fickle and frustrated electorate.

And “fickle” is a nice way of describing the voters of 2012, who appear to be wandering, confused and Forrest Gump-like through the experience of a presidential campaign. It isn’t just unclear which party’s vision they’d rather embrace; it’s entirely questionable whether the great mass of voters has even the most basic grasp of the details – or for that matter, the most elementary factual components – of the national political debate.

I actually agree with that. But the reason they are confused is due to outlets like Politico, which lie to them on a daily basis.

For voters to disapprove of ObamaÂ’s energy and economic policies may be completely rational. But to reassess a presidentÂ’s performance in the context of a short-term increase in gas prices is more of a tantrum-like response to a new feeling of discomfort over which the president has relatively little control.

Tantrum-like. We're back at that one, eh?

I guess I don't have a point here, except liberals are irrational, stuffed full with silly opinions, do not seem to have a grasp of what the actual debate is about, and react to small movements in poll numbers in a tantrum-like fashion.
