Gov.Jindal Explains the Failures of Obamacare's Medicaid Expansion

Gov. Jindal had an excellent piece in Politico Magazine about Obamacare's failures. There's a lot in there (read the whole thing), but the one that sticks out is his observation that the President's signature healthcare law prioritizes health coverage for able-bodied adults over seniors and those with disabilities.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, in 2012 more than half a million seniors and people with disabilities on state Medicaid lists were awaiting access to home and community-based services. Prompt access to these services could keep individuals with disabilities out of institutions, which are often more costly.
Yet Obamacare provides states with a much greater federal Medicaid match Â— 100 percent for the first three years, phasing down to 90 percent over time Â— to cover previously ineligible low-income individuals. According to the Urban Institute, nearly five in six adults to be covered under the Medicaid expansion are adults without children, most in their prime working years.

In other words, rather than start with the neediest and cover them first, Obamacare's Medicaid expansion goes to other groups. Coincidentally (Gov. Jindal is too nice to say it in his piece, but I will), those are groups that Democrats are most interested in luring to the voting booth.

46 I just got back from the UAE. That is a great example of the end result of government largess, without any mitigation to control the cultural work ethic.

UAE is oil rich with the citizens (only Emerates can be citizens) eligible for government benefits. Only 10% of the residents are citizens, the rest are ex-pats and servants.

There is a very poor work ethic among the citizens, they might work 10 to 2, 5 days a week, if they work at all.

Most men have a highly developed sense of entitlement, expecting there to always be servants available to wait on them. This is a role filled almost exclusively by Filipinos. No citizen of the UAE ever works in the service industry.

It is illegal to collect debts from a citizen. Every 5 years they can petition the government to forgive all of their debt.

The practical results is that Emerate men rarely work, and they all buy very expensive Ferraris and Lambos on credit, then have the government pay off the debt.

I find it incredibly hard to believe as well, given that Jeb Bush has nothing in his background or public statements that sets him apart from any other former governor with a fairly decent (but not extraordinary or even notable) record. I'm sure that, like his father and brother, Jeb Bush is a good man with stolid character and good intentions, but there is little to lift him above the ordinary, and you better believe we'll need a great deal better than ordinary and nice to defeat Hillary in 2016.

I mean, look at the guy. Listen to him. Soft and moderate and respectable, Jeb Bush reminds me of a branch manager of a small town bank, a member of the Lions Club and the Moose Lodge and the local chamber of commerce, not the guy I would tap to lead the fight against the commie bastards attempting to the tear down the Republic. I can't imagine this guy fighting anyone over anything. There's no there there.

176 This is close to a point that I've been making for quite awhile. I have a relative who is profoundly disabled, and though I don't know details of his support, I have to conclude that a lot of his costs are covered through government programs. All this "reform" necessarily diverts resources from him - someone who not only cannot take care of himself, but also needs skilled care in order to live - and diverts it to people who often are just too lazy to take care of their own lives. Of course, this relative of mine can't vote because of his disability, so when it comes down to who's important, we know he's not it, and moreso, probably listed in the HHS book of "useless eaters".
