They are practicing security through obscurity. AOS does that as well as I doubt very many places are using Minx, let alone a major political blog.
Most places with comments are moving to disqus simply to keep from being deplatformed and they let disqus do the dirty work of moderating for them.
Althouse probably quit allowing comments because she uses a Googul owned company for the host of her blog. Googul can and has pulled people's blogs hosted by them for wrongthink when leftist activists request it. They have deplatformed folks without warning. Those particular commenting systems are a revised version of Usenet bulletin boards which did not focus so much on a general community but rather to answer specific interests.
I have seen a few that have a general board which is often only populated by the newbies and mods with most of the real posts and discussions taking place in the subforums. Then, there is always the unwelcome splits when a subforum takes off for a new home because of conflicts among the mods. The major problem with a bbs type commenting system is that it divides people by interests which leaves less space to develop a common community--for example, I pass over commenting on some of the weekend threads but I at least read them usually. If they were in a subforum on cooking for example, I doubt I would worry much about French Toast and syrup conundrums.
The other biggie is registration which can be an issue for some with sensitive positions that do not want to be doxxed or appear in some registration login database somewhere sold to others.
Such as system can work and the advantage is that bbs type software already exists but that also means that hackers etc. have already probed these for weaknesses and it demands prompt administrative actions for patches, etc. to be applied daily. Dunno about pixy's time spent and costs of administering the blog and do not want those facts particularly disclosed on an open forum.

You should like it as it has low recoil. Do yourself a favor though and buy 8-10 of the 30 round AR magazines (or as high as you can get in some states now) now as those are a wear and tear item and might be restricted in the future to something like ten rounds.
If you like metal mags, Brownells and OKAY Industries are good sources and are military approved for purchase. If you like polymer, Magpul PMAGs, Troy Industries, and Lancer, among others make good ones. If you do go polymer, some of the makers of AR mags have metal support on the feed lips of the magazines which is a bit better if you like to keep them loaded, PMAG get the Gen 2 if you want the dust cover included but you can buy them for the Gen 3 in order to take the load off the mag springs if you keep the mags loaded. Gen 3 has a bit different geometry and works in other rifles besides the AR-15 due to STANAG compatibility.
One other thing, AR's like to be run wet on lube as issued.

Yep. Add bore snake, and a bottle of lube (CLP is a good recommendation), for a quick kit. A more developed kit will include a caliber-appropriate cleaning rod, jag, brush, and patches, and Hoppes #9 cleaning solvent.
For slings, I like the Viking Tactical VTAC original two-point. For iron sights, Daniel Defense A 1.5 set is a good option, if you have rails out front, or if you have a front sight already, just get the rear sight. For optics, the world is your oyster.
