— Ace When I finally get Web-Diva to answer an email, I'm going to do some minor changes on this site. One of them will be to put a poster's name more prominently up in the post, maybe as a byline under the header.
Until then, the actual writer of a post is just listed in little letters in the dateline under the post. Just wanted to point out that anyone linking a post, or congratulating a writer, should look to see who wrote a post before doing so. I see a lot of "Great Post, Ace!" comments when actually it was Harry, Tanker, Laura, or Dr. Reo doing the actual writing.
I know that's a bit of work, but the cobloggers are doing a great job and ought to get the credit for it. I feel bad for them when their good work is attributed to me, and I imagine it makes their teeth grind.

— Ace It's kinda simple: vote yes for everything the bad guys hate and no to everything the bad guys want.
Recent polls, by the way, show that two or perhaps three of Arnold's intitiatives are winning, despite earlier being way behind. That's partly because unions and interest groups have been spending like the dickens throughout this process, whereas Arnold kept his powder dry and is only now unleashing his own ads, shortly before the November 8th voting day.
So, really, they all could pass. It just requires that marginal-voters -- people who sit on their asses and watch Wings marathons on most election days -- get down to their local polling place and pull a lever.

— Ace Yes, they've always been revolting. Now they're just acting up and need a time-out.
A very interesting thing was reported by Mort Kondracke on Brit Hume yesterday. It's very interesting indeed, but I'm not sure I completely understand what the heck he was trying to say.
Apparently the Dems don't like the way "Phase II" of the intelligence investigation is going -- Intelligence staffers drew up a list of quotes from Bush Administration officials and Republican and Democratic politicians making the case for war, and evaluated each as to what intelligence they were based on.
The tricksy bit? None of the quotes carried an attribution to a particular person. So, Mort said, if you made a big deal about a quote, you might find out that it was made by a Democrat-- or even by yourself.
I'm not sure I buy that-- I imagine that anyone on the Hill can run a Lexis/Nexus search and discover who said what. I imagine the real objection is that the Democrats don't like their own "twistings of intelligence" listed right beside Bush's, and traced back to the same intelligence sources.
But... interesting, anyway, even if maybe I'm misunderstanding it, and even if Mort Kondracke is misunderstanding it too.
Here are a lot of the quotes the Dems don't really want investigated.
Including, of course:
In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
And, even better:
The intelligence which the president shared with us was in line with what we saw in the White HouseÂ…-- - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, 2003
Thanks to JoeInDC44 for pointing out that last one.
How dare you distort the intelligence and make specious connections between Saddam and Al Qaeda, Madame Senatrix.

— Ace American Conservative Calls For End To Brutal Occupation of France By French; Demands Divestiture In French Industry, If There's Any Of That Left
Okay, this isn't really funny at all. The seventh night of the Intifada-On-The-Seine is the worst ever.
Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin's government has promised to restore order but is battling to paper over differences between ministers over the best way to tackle the unrest.
French officials are torn between the difficult choice of cowardly surrender versus craven appeasement. "They both have their pros and cons," an aide to the Minister of State remarked.
And the violence is spreading into other neighborhoods:
But on Wednesday night young people threw rocks at police in six suburbs in the Seine-Saint-Denis region north of Paris that includes Clichy, police said. About a dozen cars burned in the Le Blanc-Mesnil suburb and residents - some in bathrobes and slippers - poured into the streets to watch.
Weakness encourages violence? Nahhhhh. How silly. How simplissime.

— Ace Yesterday I killed a deer in my pajamas... no, seriously, I was in my pajamas:
BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- For 40 exhausting minutes, Wayne Goldsberry battled a buck with his bare hands in his daughter's bedroom.Goldsberry finally subdued the five-point whitetail deer that crashed through a bedroom window at his daughter's home Friday. When it was over, blood splattered the walls and the deer lay dead on the bedroom floor, its neck broken.
Goldsberry was at his daughter's home when he heard glass breaking. He went back to check on the noise and found the deer.
"I was standing about like this peeking around the corner when the deer came out of the bedroom," said Goldsberry. The deer ran down the hall and into the master bedroom - "jumping back and forth across the bed."
Goldsberry entered the bedroom to confront the deer and, after a brief struggle, emerged to tell his wife to call police. After returning to the bedroom, the fight continued. Goldsberry finally was able to grip the animal and twist its neck, killing it.
The motive? Animalistic stupidity:
At this time of year, a buck that sees its reflection in a window often charges, believing it is fighting off a rival, Gay said.

Let's get them before they get us.

— Harry Callahan While exposing children of tender years to the Pledge of Allegiance is a traumatic and searing experience of gob-smacking heartache, apparently soliciting parental consent for a "survey of early trauma" without mentioning that it asks first graders (as well as third and fifth graders) about their sexual habits is just peachy A-OK doubleplusgood!
Thanks to Erick at RedState.
Best line in the Red State comments, from neodanite:
"It's usually a sex crime if the town pervert does it. But if the town pervert happens to be working on his master's degree, it's ok."

— Harry Callahan If you've been using your computer to play/rip Sony BMG CDs recently, you might not be aware of the diabolical and devious hidden copy protection program that comes along for the ride.
Fortunately, Sony jumped on the potential PR landmine, but this should still be a caution to everyone.
At the same time on another front, your ability to make recordings of digital video content may just get a lot more problematic.
Here endeth the public service announcement for today.

— Ace That's the whole point of yesterday's closed-door Senate hearing stunt, right?
I think the investigation should start with the lies told by The President:
The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow.
And maybe the Secretary of State:
SaddamÂ’s goal Â… is to achieve the lifting of U.N. sanctions while retaining and enhancing IraqÂ’s weapons of mass destruction programs. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed.
And perhaps this warmongering, intelligence-twisting, neocon ideologue Senator while they're at it.
And when they're done with Clinton, Albright, and Jay Rockefeller, they can start questioning Republicans, too. Fair is fair, after all.

— Ace And we only need two of the seven to force a 50-50 tie, Cheney casts the tie-breaking vote.
That seems to have quieted noise about filibustering him:
After a brief flurry of filibuster talk immediately following Alito's nomination, Senate Democrats now are taking a wait-and-see stance."I don't know a single Democrat who is saying that it's time for a filibuster, that we should really consider it," said Dick Durbin of Illinois, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, after meeting with Alito Wednesday. "It's way too early."
Nelson said he had received assurances from Alito "that he wants to go to the bench without a political agenda, that he is not bringing a hammer and chisel to hammer away and chisel away on existing law."
As annoyed as we all get with the RINOs, they do occasionally vote our way.
