— Ace Iranian cartoon promotes glamorous career of suicide-bombing. To kids, of course.
Actual cartoon is here.
Abd Al-Rahman: "Oh God, I must take revenge upon these bloodthirsty aggressors, who murdered my father, mother, and brother."(As Al-Rahman sobs, Karim appears and comforts him.)
Karim: "Abd Al-Rahman, your father was my uncle. You are like a brother to me. Whatever you decide to do, my brother, know that I will stand by your side."
...
Karim: "This is not only in revenge for your father, mother, and brother. This bloodthirsty man must be held accountable for all his crimes. We must not allow these bloodthirsty Zionists to take even one inch of our holy land. If necessary, we will die this way."
(Jassem nods.)
Khalil: "Well said! I applaud your deep faith."
...
(Scene changes: A dirt road. Abd Al-Rahman, waiting for an Israeli military convoy to pass by, ties a string of grenades around his waist. The convoy approaches.)
Jassem: "Brothers, get ready. They are coming."
Abd Al-Rahman: "I place my trust in God. Allah Akbar."
(Al-Rahman pulls the grenade pins and leaps onto one of the trucks, screaming. Gunfire and explosions; the scene is obscured by black smoke. When the smoke clears, there is devastation – the Israeli soldiers and the Palestinian attackers, including Al-Rahman, lie dead.
A young Palestinian boy approaches Al-Rahman's body, takes his bloody kaffiyeh, places it on his own shoulders, and walks off into the sunset.)
You see that? The young Palestinian boy takes the kaffiyeh and wears it himself? Suggesting that he will be the next to take up the cause of the exposive martyr?
Ahhhh... the circle of death. It all comes together.
Why is that lefties make so much noise about living in a fascist state, where war is promoted and dissent "chilled," and never say anything about real fascist states where death-porn like this is played to children?
The stock answer is, of course, "Because it's more important to me that my country be righteous."
All of a sudden it's "my country."
It's funny that these expressions of intense love of country usually only come from lefties when challenged as to why they only malign America. Most of the rest of the time they seem to argue that their status as Americans is just happenstance and that they really belong to a "global community."
But when challenged as to why they never stop reviling America, then they start putting America first. First for blame, that is.
Because they love her just. too. damn. much.
It is not fascist, guys, to be clear-eyed about how bloody-minded some of our enemies are. And yes, the Iranian Government is an enemy. They want the bomb. The very same bomb you don't trust George Bush with.
And don't take much solace in the fact that that cartoon is "merely" about killing Zionists. That's sort of like a black man finding hope in the fact that he's only second on the KKK's hit list. (Jews first, again.)
Thatnks to utron.

— Ace Merry Fitzmas? Riiiiiight.
A Senate Minority Leadership staffer says this plan to shut down the Senate was hatched last night, as staff and Democratic Senators looked over the wreckage of what they believed was going to be their finest few days in a long time: an indictment of a White House official, a struggling President, a conservative judicial nominee, a splintering conservative base."Alito's nomination and the press that followed just devastated them," says the leadership source. "They couldn't get their message out. They felt that things had pivoted on them, and that with the President presenting his plan for avian flu, with the Alito nomination going apparently well, with the tax panel recommendations, they were going to get ploughed under. This was a stunt. But it worked."
It worked? I don't know. Is anyone really talking about it?
A lot of left-wing bloggers were saying stuff like "rightwingers are shittin' their pants over this! Whoo-hoo!" I really had no idea what they were talking about. I posted it because Drudge had it in big red letters and I figured people would want to comment on it. And just to throw up a quick and easy post, quite frankly. I don't ever remember being more than bemused and slightly interested-- whether by friend or foe, I'm not above enjoying the cheap threatrics of politics. Most often it's cornball and stupid or tasteless, like Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction," but it's unexpected and at least something to talk about.
I really didn't think much of it either way. It was a stunt. Like having all those Congressmen walk out of Congress and gather on the steps of the Capitol to protest Clinton's impeachment.
Did it either work? Well, as a stunt, sure, I guess. It got publicity.
And then what?
I could pull some jackass stunt to get a one-day spike in traffic, but... what comes next? What exactly would that get me, long-term?
You know what was a cool stunt? Evel Kinevel attempting to jump the Snake River Canyon on a rocket-bike.
You know how long I was fascinated by that, even as a young kid? About, like, two days. And then I became fascinated by the In Search Of... Bigfoot episode that aired later in the week.
There's that awful stink of flop-sweat and wet-palmed desperation wafting off the liberal Democrats lately, and a lot of backclapping and "Huzzah, boys! We got 'em on the run now" even through chattering teeth.

— Ace Yep, it's that "shocker" hand gesture again, again being displayed by a clueless (or lascivious) MSM.*
Is it worth pointing out? Probably not. But this is the only "hip" thing the kids are into I know of. The last "hip" thing I did was go to a Foo Fighters concert, where I was very saddened to be mistaken for Gene Simmons' dad.
*It's shown on Yahoo, which I doubt counts as "MSM," but it's an AP picture.

— Ace Powerline, responding to a Milwaulkee Journal Sentinel editorial.
The MJS:
In losing a woman, the court with Alito would feature seven white men, one white woman and a black man, who deserves an asterisk because he arguably does not represent the views of mainstream black America.
Powerline responds:
...the liberals at the Journal Sentinel apparently think that Supreme Court justices are like House members who represent constituencies, and are supposed to vote according to the wishes of those they represent. That's a stupid idea, obviously. But stay with it for a moment. If that is their theory, then why do the same liberals consistently praise Supreme Court decisions that frustrate the wishes of most Americans?
And Brainster's Blog wants to know if David Souter should have an asterisk next to his name, since he does not, apparently, reflect the views of most white Americans.
There's a word for this sort of thinking. That word is racism. Or at least a notion of racial-solidarity and, implictly, disdain for those outside the race that approaches racism.
Really, if liberals want to continue the good work they did in the sixties overcoming racism, they cannot also dabble in "good racism" when they find it politically expedient to do so. White people might start to get the impression that if lockstep "What's good for my race?" thinking is okay for everyone else, maybe they should start joining in the fun again.
Naked Testicle Spiderman ain't too happy about it either. At least I assume he's not happy about it. He uses the words "apotheosis" and "ontological," which tells me he's so angry he's been reduced to using made-up, hobo-gibberish pretend-words that just pop into his head. But I dig on that kind of lunatic senselessness.
Thomas “deserves an asterisk” because he doesn’t “think” black—black thinking having now been reduced to a single ontological class that is presumably recognizable by how well it tacks with the positions of black leaders and progressive politicos who, in a perverse cycle, define the very “black” interests that mark one as authentically black.
Wasn't it the mayor of Vienna (forget his name; the mayor in the 1930's, as Naziism rose in power) who said, "I decide who the Jews are?"

Or something. They always describe nature as being, basically, a big fat whiny pussy.

— Ace For once I really take no glee in the troubles of Europe. I suppose I could note the smug condescension they showed regarding our own racial problems, and the country's alleged racism and hard-heartedness in failing to redress the "underlying issues."
Our racial problems are largely getting better -- black home ownership is at an all-time high, for example -- and Europe's are getting worse, and, the thing is, they're likely to get exponentially worse.
The sixth day of rampant violence and rioting in a Parisian ghetto of North and Central African immigrants angry about the deaths of two criminals who died when fleeing from police. They weren't even shot. They were electrocuted when they ran into a power transformer (or something like that; I don't grok power distribution).
In Arhus, Denmark, a riot of immigrants (Palestinian and Turkish) wasn't even spontaneous. It was planned for three weeks. The goal, shockingly enough, was to claim a piece of land for Muslims:
Rosenhøj Mall has several nights in a row been the scene of the worst riots in Århus for years. "This area belongs to us", the youths proclaim. Sunday evening saw a new arson attack.Their words sound like a clear declaration of war on the Danish society. Police must stay out. The area belongs to immigrants.
...
[A rioter declared:] "The police has to stay away. This is our area. We decide what goes down here".
And then the bit with the drawings of the prophet Muhammed comes around:
"We are tired of what we see happening with our prophet. We are tired of Jyllands-Posten. I know it isnt you, but we wont accept what Jyllands-Posten has done to the prophet", he says aggressively, and the others nod approvingly.
...
Two of them are Turks, and it is the first time, that Turks and Palestinians act together, the 19-year-old says.
"We have planned this for three weeks. That is why only two were arrested saturday nigh. The police will cordon off it all. But we know the ways out", he claims, and then disappears, munching on a piece of pizza from Fun Pizza.
Back in June 2001, similar race riots engulfed Leeds, England. In that case, as in Paris, the riots were sparked because the legitimate authorities of the state had the termerity to arrest a man of Bangladeshi descent.
The problem here isn't religious per se. It's political, or the political aspects of the religion. There are certain politically-oriented commands in the Muslim religion -- take territory to expand the Muslim world, do not submit to any authority except a Muslim one, etc. -- that are going to make it very hard for any state to accomodate a rising population of often-poor and unemployed young Muslim men whose sense of self-worth comes chiefly from a radical, violent vision of Mohammad the Conqueror.
The usual caveat: Of course not all Muslims are like this, or believe in rioting for purposes of expressing cultural solidarity and superiority, or to effectively conquer a territory through lawlessness and mayhem. But a distressing number do, and it's getting harder and harder to finesse the problem away with happytalk and pointless meetings with "Muslim leaders."
French Chickens Coming Home To Roost? Update: Shtetl G doesn't even have my moderate level of sympathy for the French--
I've have no sympathy for the French at all. Intifadas are real bitch, oiu? France has been shilling for Arafat for years precisely to keep their muslim population in check. They practically started the most recent antifada(in Israel) with their bogus staged video of palestinian boy being shot.Fuck 'em.
I guess there's something to that. A nation can't be one of the foremost advocates for the proposition that an angry minority is justified in using violence to achieve its political desires and not expect similar angry minorities inside that nation to think, "Hmmmm..."

— Ace JoeInDC44 managed to transcribe a little-noticed press conference:
Thanks for point out this recent outing of covert CIA ops. I would like to use a baseball analogy, if I could.Outing of the CIA secret jails and airplanes is like when the catcher tries to catch a pitch thrown by the pitcher, except that the umpire was trying to tie his shoes and was distracted during the pitch. The umpire also lost his contact lens and can no longer clearly see the bound of the imaginary strike zone, leaving only the penumbra of the swing of the batter's bat, only there was no batter because he had previously called time out.
As I was saying, the umpire was also crying because he had an onion tied to his belt, which was the fashion at that time. So, the umpire convenes a grand jury and calls the pitcher to testify on the signal that the catcher called.
The umpire then sends the pitcher to pound me in the ass prison for getting it wrong, the signal the catcher gave.
There, I hope that cleared things up

— Ace We've known this was going on since, well, forever. I suppose this story advances the ball a bit, but the liberal media is going to try to pretend this is a big new story deserving of the sort of attention when you first learn of something.
Some points:
Obviously, a shitload of "unauthorized disclosures of HIGHLY classified information" informed this story. I take it the press will call for all of the CIA and Justice Department leakers to be thoroughly investigated and questioned, upon pain of perjury, before a grand jury? No?
The answer, I suppose, will be that this is something we need to know about... and yet the left piously instructs us that someone like Lewis Libby can't just disclose supposedly classified information because he feels we need to know. We have to respect the classification system, right?
This is a much bigger story than the alleged "outing" of Valerie Plame, Soccer Mom CIA Agent With a Licence To Knit Mittens. Like the NYT article on the CIA's secret air fleet, this exposes an entire network of operatives and locations, not just one agent (who'd already been outed multiple times before).
So why should a bigger breach of security get its leakers a bigger pass for divulging more critical, and potentially embarassing if not dangerous, classified information?
Again: Maybe we should know about this, so maybe that makes the leaks "good." But I think we had a right to know that Joe Wilson's wife sent him to Niger to do a put-up job on uranium from Niger; why doesn't the same "right to know" rule hold?
That aside, here are the interesting bits from the article. more...
