Jersey Jihad Murders Update
— Ace

JihadWatch has horrifying and unreported details about the savage killings, including:

Shortly after the murders, members of the Egyptian consulate went to visit the family to encourage them to keep quiet. And many family members have obeyed, saying nothing to reporters or anyone else. However, two family members and another Copt viewed the bodies at the funeral home. One of these eyewitnesses said that he clearly saw that the family members had not suffered “stab wounds to the throat,” as the prosecutor’s report states, but rather the following:

A. Both adults, Hossam and Amal, had a horizontal slit across the throat. Below the slit, on the left, right and middle of the throat were three holes, big enough so that one could place a finger in each hole. According to the eyewitness, it was as if the assailant(s) took a knife and turned it repeatedly in a circular fashion, as if to screw holes into the victimsÂ’ necks.

B. The two young girls, Sylvia (15) and Monica ( , also had a horizontal slits in their throats, along with two holes bored below the slits, one on the right and one on the left sides of their necks. The holes were similar to those on their parentsÂ’ necks.

JihadWatch want to know why the hell the police are waiting until March 14th to release the autopsies. (!!!)

And if you're not current on this story -- as I admit I'm not -- Michelle Malkin has re-posted her previous reporting on the story.

Drudge: American Soldier Captured (?)
— Ace

I hope not; if this is true, of course, our prayers are with this man.

But there are reasons for doubt. First of all, it's just a picture, not a video, which is more easily faked.

Second:

A statement posted with the picture suggested the group was holding other soldiers.

"Our mujahadeen heroes of Iraq's Jihadi Battalion were able to capture American military man John Adam after killing a number of his comrades and capturing the rest," said the statement, signed by the "Mujahedeen Brigades."

I think if there were "other soldiers" (presumably US) we'd know about it by now.

And that name-- "John Adam"? Why not "John Smith"?

It's quite possible this is all true, and of course that's horrible.

On the other hand, this may be a desperate hoax, trying to "divert attention" (as Josh Marshall might say) from the impressively-successful elections of Sunday.

That's Got To Sting: Liberal Columnist Dares To Ask, "What If Bush Was Right All Along?"
— Ace

The unreality-based community is apparently not completely impervious to fact:

Maybe you're like me and have opposed the Iraq war since before the shooting started -- not to the point of joining any peace protests, but at least letting people know where you stood.

...

By now, you might have even voted against George Bush -- a second time -- to register your disapproval.

But after watching Sunday's election in Iraq and seeing the first clear sign that freedom really may mean something to the Iraqi people, you have to be asking yourself: What if it turns out Bush was right, and we were wrong?

It's hard to swallow, isn't it?

...

If you fit the previously stated profile, I know you're fighting the idea, because I am, too. ....

For those who've been in the same boat with me, we don't need to concede the point just yet. There's a long way to go. But I think we have to face the possibility.

I won't say that it had never occurred to me previously, but it's never gone through my mind as strongly as when I watched the television coverage from Iraq that showed long lines of people risking their lives by turning out to vote, honest looks of joy on so many of their faces.

Some CNN guest expert was opining Monday that the Iraqi people crossed a psychological barrier by voting and getting a taste of free choice (setting aside the argument that they only did so under orders from their religious leaders).

I think it's possible that some of the American people will have crossed a psychological barrier as well.

...

For now, though, I think we have to cut the president some slack about a timetable for his exit strategy.

If it turns out Bush was right all along, this is going to require some serious penance.

Maybe I'd have to vote Republican in 2008.

Thanks to Nick.

Update: Via Instapundit, it now appears that confirmed liberal hack/journalist wannabe Jon Stewart is reconsidering as well:

"IÂ’ve watched this thing unfold from the start and hereÂ’s the great fear that I have: What if Bush, the president, ours, has been right about this all along? I feel like my world view will not sustain itself and I may, and again I donÂ’t know if I can physically do this, implode."

This is what I find unforgiveable about anti-war liberals. It's one thing to be anti-war philosophically. It's quite another thing -- and we've seen admissions of this time and time again -- to be so committed to that position that you'd rather see chaos in Iraq and further American deaths just so you don't have to re-examine your liberal biases.

Anti-War Democrats Seek "Exit Strategy" From Issue of Iraq
— Ace

Liberal Legislators Seek "Timetable" For End to Discussion of Everything To Do With Iraq

W A S H I N G T O N (Acewire News Service) -- Calling their previous pessimism and gloom on the prospects of free and fair Iraqi elections an "unending quaqmire," several leading Democrats called for an "exit strategy" for all discussion of the topic whatsoever.

"President Bush has promised to unify this country," Congressional Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in prepared remarks. "He now owes it to us to present a firm timetable laying out precisely when we can stop talking about Iraq and move on to other pressing issues which we're wrong about, like claiming that Social Security is not in crisis."

Pelosi's call for a timetable was rejected by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. "I don't want to talk about timetables, as they might embolden our enemies in the United States Congress," Reid explained. "It's more important that President Bush lay out a series of criteria for defining success in Iraq, all of which must be quite impossible to ever actually meet. Then we can declare victory and start yammering about gay marriage again."

Former presidential candidate John F. Kerry of Massachusetts offered grudging praise of the Iraqi people's bravery and commitment to democracy before also demanding that President Bush "be straight with the American people and tell them when he will stop humiliating the Democrats for being wrong on every foreign policy question of the past four years."

"Today marks what we hope will be a new beginning for a stable, prosperous Iraq," Senator Kerry intoned hautilly. "And hopefully, if we could just ix-ne on the Iraq-ne alk-te for just a few months, it may mark a new beginning for a stable and prosperous Democratic Party as well. Which I think is what we're all really concerned about."

Although most leading Democrats were somewhat restrained in their calls for an "exit strategy" of further discussion on the issue, Senator Ted Kennedy demanded an "immediate pull-out" of most media mentions of the new democratic state of Iraq, with a complete media abandonment of the issue by late 2005. "I would suggest that whenever the media wants to report on the successes in Iraq, they instead give us adorable 'local color' stories, like a squirrel who can ride a surfboard."

Aaron Brown of CNN's Newsnight called the proposal "interesting." "I have to tell you, it makes me just sick to pretend to be happy about the success of the Iraqi elections," he admitted. "On the other hand, I have absolutely no problem showing video of that bear that fell out of a tree on on to a trampoline, night after night after night, if that's what it takes. I'm also working on a 'Carsenio the Magnificent' kind of sketch, where I 'psychically' attempt to report all of tomorrow's non-Iraq news, today."

Mr. Brown immediately held an envelope to his forehead and intoned "Me, Peter Jennings, and Katie Couric." Tearing open the envelope and blowing into it, he read the contents of the card inside. "Name three people currently being watched by friends and family for signs of suicidal depression, and who have had their shoelaces, belts, and Percoset confiscated by mental-health care professionals."

"It's more true than funny," he explained wryly.

Liberal bloggers instituted their own exit strategy unilaterally and by and large refused to mention January 30th's historic events entirely. Joshua Micah Marshall could only offer a single line -- "I question the timing" -- although the January 30th vote has in fact been scheduled for six months.

In related news, Keith Olbermann is said to have gone "flat-out batshit crazy" and will devote his show for the next several weeks to examining the "voting irregularities" in Iraq. He says that in some precincts, it took Sunni minority voters up to three hours to pass through security, and he plans on interviewing confirmed lunatic Greg Palast every night for the next three months.

Mr. Palast claims he has "proof" that John Kerry actually won the cities of Tikrit and Fallujah.

"Actually, I think that actually might be true," admitted a high-ranking Bush Administration official.

Lara Flynn Boyle Hotness Update
— Ace

Back in May, I explained at some great length what made Lara Flynn Boyle so hot. Among other reasons:

The fact that Lara Flynn Boyle is hot, but not perfect hot, means that you can play upon her anxiety and beat down her reservoir of self-esteem in order to keep her dependent on you. You just have to say things like, "Oh, no Lara, I'm totally attracted to you. I've never been really into what some would call 'classic beauties.'"

Or, maybe, "Look, I'm always calling you beautiful. Even when all my friends and the Hollywood glitterati say you're not so beautiful, I'm always there, arguing otherwise, usually in futility. But I think you're beautiful. In the right light, you understand."

And then, when she's asleep, just keep whispering to her, "Who else could possibly love something like you?" Eventually that will sink into her subconscious.

It's time to add a new reason. Allegedly, when she gets bored on airplanes, she strips off all of her clothes and tries to have sex with random passengers.

Man! And the best I could do was plow through the first half of State of Fear!

(Yeah, sure, I had my pants off too, but under the blanket.)

Thanks to Not So Much People for the tip.

Andrew Sullivan Going on Semi-Permanent Hiatus
— Ace

It seems my work here is done:

No, it's not a response to criticism. I'm a big boy and have provoked critics from the minute this blog started. I deserve much of what I get. And to tell you the truth, I rather enjoy the heat and will miss some of kitchen.

Ahem. If you say so.

Thanks to George Gaskell for the tip.
