Extended Absence [Ace]
— Ace

Well, it was great to get away, even if not under the best circumstances. I really needed a break from blogging.

My lovely co-host Karol just told me she'd managed to book a guest (Jay Nordlinger of NRO-- who hoo!), so I guess I'm a little behind on show-prep now.

I'll be posting lightly, but all guest-bloggers are welcomed/encouraged to keep guest-blogging through today and tomorrow if they feel like it. I'll be posting too, a little.

I really want to thank all the guest-bloggers who helped keep content on the site while I was away. They deserve a big link-filled post, but alas, this is not that post.

Sammy Hagar Won't Like This Story. [Dave at Garfield Ridge]
— Ace

Hell, if Ace won't post anything, I might as well offer you something.

WASHINGTON - Authorities patrolling U.S. highways tend to give motorists a cushion of up to 10 miles per hour above the speed limit before pulling them over, says a survey by a group of state traffic safety officials.

Anyone want to take a guess what the proposed solution is here? Would it involve raising the speed limit to reflect the actual driving habits of actual drivers?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. . . yeah, right, sure pal.

Get Out The Hook [John from WuzzaDem]

Man, I bitch about Drudge, then he gives us this gem:

AL FRANKEN OVERSTAYS WELCOME AT TALK FEST

AIR AMERICA's Al Franken became “The Guest Who Wouldn’t Leave” after receiving an award at a talk-radio convention in New York over the weekend.

NY POST's John Mainelli reports Monday: The liberal talk-show host was finally forced off the stage -- amidst shouts from supporters and detractors -- after an acceptance speech became a nearly half-hour rant against Bill OÂ’Reilly and the Iraq war.

“Al, hurry up,” said Michael Harrison, publisher of TALKERS mag, the convention sponsor.

“It’s freedom of speech,” said Franken, referring to the Freedom of Speech Award he’d just been given by the magazine.

I realize he was (probably) joking, but had he been forced to leave the stage at this point, I'm sure Franken would have had one of his trademark tantrums and found a way to blame Karl Rove for not allowing him to exercise his constitutional right to bore the crap out of his audience.

“There are people walking out,” said Harrison. “We gave you the award and it’s time to leave.”

“Everyone who wants to leave can leave,” said Franken, addressing hundreds of talk-show hosts and radio execs at a cocktail reception in a downtown hotel.

And people wonder why Air America is still struggling.

With that -- while some shouted “keep going, keep going” and “let him finish” -- the Air America star wound down his rant by talking about his visits with Iraq-war vets.

“The soldiers were so magnificent,” Franken said, appearing to suppress sobs.

ACK! Sorry, had to suppress a gag.

Maybe people were actually afraid to leave because they know that Franken has interpreted the first amendment to mean that he can tackle people whose speech he disapproves of.

Fellow Al Franken fans might want to check out frankenlies.com.

Yes, another crap post. Hey, I'm at work - what do you want from me?

Late as Usual [Jen @ Demure Thoughts]
— Ace

Thanks to Ace for inviting me to blog. Sorry I wasn't available for much this weekend but I did enjoy the fun while I was around. Hopefully Ace will notice that I kept my potty mouth under control in his new family friendly blog. See... I really am Demure.

Thanks, and Sorry [John from WuzzaDem]
— Ace

I want to thank Ace for asking me to guest-blog here again.

When he asked me a few days ago I thought I would have plenty of time available for posting, but as it turned out I was buried in work and other "non-blogging" activities. Oh, and my dog ate my homework.

Thanks for putting up with the quickie (crappy) posts. And if you like crap, stop by my blog, WuzzaDem.com. I've got plenty more there.

Drudge Dreck [John from WuzzaDem]
— Ace

Is it just me, or has Matt Dudge finally scraped through the bottom of the barrel? At this rate he should arrive in China sometime soon.

I'm no fan of the Clintons. If it weren't for Bill, my transition from liberal (liberal who actually worked as a Clinton campaign volunteer in 1992, mind you) to conservative might have taken a bit longer than it did, but garbage is garbage and hearsay is, well, hearsay.

And what did Chelsea Clinton ever do to deserve seeing this kind of swill splattered all over the online equivalent of the National Enquirer?

I need a shower.

Stepping Out As Well [The Therapist]
— Ace

This is a bittersweet thing. I'm leaving as well, but not without one retraction and one observation.

Alert reader, Mantis, alerted me to the fact that he was alert enough to realize that I was not alert enough to assume an attribution to Sun Tzu was in his book, The Art of War. It appears that Mantis was so alert that, he alerted me to the fact that it wasn't. I do have the book, but I have not read it in some time, and so I apologize for the amalgamation of urban assumptions and legitimate text to enter the fray. I was not alert.

Mantis then went on to call Ace an idiot for the observations I attatched to the quote, not realizing that the by-line to that column, reading "The Therapist" sits there to the right, looking bigger than Boris Yeltsin's liver. He was not alert.

So the alert thing is somewhat suspect. Either way, thanks for straightening me out about the Sun Tzu bit, Mantis. I mean it. And I love you.

I hope I've contributed something of value here, and I am thankful to Ace for the opportunity to depart from my usual trajectory, which apparrently includes dubious attributions stapled to observations I happen to think are, at the very least, interesting.

Feel free to visit my blog any time . . ., and you too, Mantis.

So Long [Say Anything]
— Ace

Ace is supposed to be back tonight or tomorrow, so I'll take my cue from Dave and bow out as well.

Its been fun. Thanks to Ace for allowing me exposure to an audience a bit larger than my own. I'm just sorry that it was a death in his family that required the invitation.

Ace has some really cool readers. I didn't comment much while here (I guess I just like seeing what other people say, for the most part) but I read all the responses to my posts.

If you all enjoyed my posts here please think about stopping by Say Anything once in a while. We put up interesting posts pretty much every day of the week and get some good conversations going in the comments section. Add a feed to your reader, you'll be entertained.

If you have a blog or website, an add to your link list would be nice as well.
