Donna Brazile: "I will rebuild with you, Mr. President"
— Ace

Mark in Mexico thinks she's a terrific American for giving the President her support in the reconstruction of the Gulf Coast.

I hate to be the cynic. But let me suggest another possibility. Those Democrats praising Bush's Thursday speech are doing so as part of a bit of cynical Kabuki theater.

See, they say "We're behind the President; we trust him to get this done." When the inevitable controversies arise -- corrupt Louisiana politicians and businessmen trying for big money and getting smacked down by inspectors general, some projects taking longer to rebuild than others, the economic heart of New Orleans getting rebuilt before its economically-impotent slums, the slums not being rebuilt as gold-plated upper-middle-class suburbs -- they'll then say, "We gave this President every chance. We trusted him and supported him. And now, once again, he has become a miserable failure on yet another issue."

Look on the Bright Side
— LauraW.

It is reassuring that these guys are so F'n stupid.

Another fictional threat:

"It is hard for the court to understand why he has a large concentration of those (aviation) items, and nothing else to indicate Mr. Maawad plans to stay in the community," Anderson said.

Maawad had ordered $3,000 in aviation materials, including DVDs titled "Ups and Downs of Takeoffs and Landings," "Airplane Talk," "Mental Math for Pilots" and "Mastering GPS Flying," FBI agent Thad Gulczynski testified.

...and didn't pay his bill.

Hat tip to my DH.

Being Male is a "Preventable Social Condition"
— Harry Callahan

I'm sure the 'science' is unimpeachable.

This wouldn't be the latest example of political/social views leading researchers to the 'preferred' result, now would it? No, no, heavens, no. Never happens. Uh uh. Nothing to see here.

Let me guess how this came about. Over their morning tea and crumpets, the local communist league, err, sociology department is brainstorming ideas on how to sell their male wussification agenda. Suddenly, an idea strikes (causing 1d8 damage): let's try and convince men that being actually, you know, male is bad for their health. They're so dumb, they might actually believe it.

Except that, well, don't men already know that being male is not particularly healthy? Drinking, smoking, whoring, eating hubcap-sized steaks, beating the crap out of people, and joining the military to see interesting places and kill people aren't exactly granola and soy milk activities.

I call bullshit on this one.

Bubonic Plague Carrying Lab Mice Head Out on the Town.
— Dr. Reo Symes

Oopsie (via Michelle Malkin):

Officials said the animals could have been stolen from the center or simply misplaced in a colossal accounting error at one of the top-level bio-containment labs in the state.
The incident occurred more than two weeks ago and was confirmed only yesterday after questions were raised by The Star-Ledger....
State Health Commissioner Fred Jacobs said mice infected with plague die "very fast," so "the risk to the public ... is probably slim to none.”

Why, itÂ’s just like that heartwarming childrensÂ’s story, The Secret of Nimh Â….except with more Bubonic Plague.

Charge: Able Danger Mohammad Atta Papers Destroyed On Orders
— Ace

Yeah, if I ID'd Mohammad Atta as an Al Qaeda operative years before 9/11 and didn't follow up, I guess I'd cover up my tracks, too.

Thanks to PrismWarden.

Shock: Gwynneth Paltrow Hates America
— Ace

Why is she giving interviews about this? Isn't she supposed to be blogging on HuffPo?

"Yes, well, I went to Spain in an exchange program at 15, and I've always been drawn to Europe. America is such a young country, with an adolescent swagger about it. But I feel that I have a more European sensibility, a greater respect for the multicultural nature of the globe. And it's a strange time to be an American now."

I don't think kids should be allowed to visit Europe until they're actually fully formed adults. I know people who went to Europe in high school and college, and it sort of warped them. It's an enticing place and an attractive way of life. And the immature are overly influenced it.

Think Ozzy Osbourne records are insidious? Send a fourteen year old girl to Paris for a summer. That's insidious.
