Blair's "Brutal Honesty" on Kytoto: "No Country Is Going To Cut Its Growth"
— Ace

British conservatives hate this guy. Stutaford over at The Corner is always ripping him.

And I'm sure he's Clintonian in his mendacity on domestic issues and it drives the Tories crazy that people just can't see through him.

But...

He doesn't have any power over American health care or schools. And damnit, on the stuff that does affect us, he's terrific.

Linked By... Andrew Sullivan?
— Ace

Okay, it's one of those "here, here, here, and here" slinks (shit-links), but whatever.

I will not be ignored, baby.

And it's long overdue. After all, I've linked him once or twice myself.

Thanks to Allah for the tip, who asks if this is one of the seven seals of the Apocalypse.

How do you get linked by Andrew Sullivan? Same way you get mentioned on CNN's Inside Politics-- say something bad about Bush and/or Republicans.

Unprecedented: Alaskans Want To Give Back Pork To Help Katrina Victims
— Ace

$315 M is to be spent on a "bridge to nowhere" linking a tiny community with an even tinier island which sports a very minor local-hop airport.

Tipster Deep Stoat writes (no link, but I'll take his word):

I wanted to bring to your attention several news articles and letters-to-the-editor that were recently penned by citizens of Alaska. Those who follow politics are well aware that Alaska gets an outsized share of pork, or wasteful pet projects, from its elected officials in Washington.

In short, a number of selfless Alaskans are offering to give back their pork – including the oft-maligned $315 million “bridge to nowhere” – in order to help pay for the costs of Hurricane Katrina.

Deep Stoat works for a politician interested in cutting spending, so he'd know about such things.

Hooray For Pallywood (Bumped; Must-Watch)
— Ace

A movie about the scenes staged by Palestinians and immediately run by deliberately-credulous MSM outlets.

I actually haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but it comes recommended, and sounds really good.

For the high-res download, you'll need DIVX for playback, but, for some strange reason, I have a feeling that most of you guys have that already installed.

But you can also view a lower-res streaming video on Windows Media.

Thanks to Jerry.

Related: On the fraudulence of that French film of the supposed shooting of Mohammad Dura by Israeli soldiers, the film that began the new intifada.

Does the media have blood on its hands?

More Young Women Try Bisexuality
— Ace

14% of older teens and twenty years olds, at least doubling the numbers in previous surveys.

Scary, because at some point, most women will figure out they just don't need us. Fish, bicycle, the end of human life as we know it.

Sure, women are emotionally stronger and more emotionally giving, and sure, they're better lovers than men are. Certainly women have greater sexual endurance than men, and are more concerned with pleasing their partners.

But let me ask you lesbian-leaning ladies this:

Can your "special friend" Becca fart the theme to Sanford & Son?

No?

You're damn right she can't. 'Cuz girls just ain't's gots the mad skillz.

Thanks for the bad news to cutaway.

The Multi-Blade Arms Race.
— Dr. Reo Symes

Scary news:

(AP) Violating existing treaty, Gillette, manufacturer of the popular Mach3Turbo, announced today underground testing has begun on a new line of five blade behemoths.

Experts say this latest escalation is a response to SchickÂ’s four bladed Quattro, itself a response to GilletteÂ’s three blade models.

Ok, when the three blade thing originally came out, I was, of course, frightened. Three blades? Insanity. It was like I woke up and nothing made any sense anymore. But, somehow, I tried the 3 blade deal. My world? Rocked.

Thing is, they ainÂ’t cheap. IÂ’m already spending, like, 1/4 of my income on those damn cartridges. (And yeah, like an all day sucker I sprung for the vibrating handle upgrade.) But now youÂ’re talking five blades? Five? Sigh. I know IÂ’m gonna try it and I know IÂ’m gonna love it. But the cost?

Truly the day is fast approaching when good men can no longer afford to shave. Like Victorian England. And no, I couldnÂ’t always go back to those disposable one blade skin resurfacers, thank you very much. I canÂ’t do it. I wonÂ’t. IÂ’m not an animal.

Friday Haiku Contest
— LauraW.

Put me some knowledge;
Why blame Bush for Katrina
If survivors won't?

UPDATE: Entries can be 5-7-5 or Loose Shit. Just make it reasonably haiku-like.
Any current subjects will do.

ABC Interviews Wrong Black People
— Ace

Sheesh, what does a network have to do to get some juicy anti-Bush quotes these days?

Is there any possibility Cindy Sheehan lost a distant relative in the hurricane? Even a third cousin twice removed would do.

Update: Video of one interviewee and transcripts of the others at Newsbusters.

Completely Narcissistic Post

As opposed to the usual posts, which are only 50% narcissistic.

Look, when you get paid this kind of compliment, you kinda have to acknowledge it.

Live Thread: Presidential Address on Katrina
— Ace

I won't be liveblogging this; I'll be watching Survivor, currently being recorded.

Prediction for the speech: Bush will do what he always does when he feels political heat. Spend, baby. Spend like the wind.

In the current situation, I'm not sure that money spent on rebuilding the ravaged Gulf Coast is wasted or "liberal." If my city got whacked -- wait it minute, it did get whacked pretty nicely, didn't it? -- I'd want America to pitch in and rebuild.

But what's all this talk of dedicating ourselves anew to eradicating the scourge of poverty? Yes, it's a nice goal. But what the hell does job training have to do with rebuilding New Orleans?

If you can't get a job in New Orleans in the coming year, with all the thousands of major construction operations that will be going on, you don't need job training. You need a clue.

Anyway. That's Bush. Everytime he gets caught politically flat-footed, he opens up our collective wallet to buy himself out of trouble.

No Liveblogging: I was liveblogging last night's Hitchens debate for ten minutes before I realized I was just transcribing (badly) what everyone else was listening to. In fact, I seemed to have a delay of some sort; stuff showed up in the comments before I heard it mysefl.

In other words, I felt like a complete asswipe, but perservered, just out of stubborness.

So I won't be liveblogging. Liveblogging something being broadcast on the radio or tv is just, how you say, moronic.
