— Open Blogger Well, the garden thread was supposed to be a parody sing along themed one, but that went south in a hurry. However, it just so happens I have a song I wrote to the tune of “Bonnie Blue Flag” back when the Tea Party was new, and that one goes great in an OT political thread. Here's the original song if you're not familiar with it, it was almost as popular as “Dixie” in the CSA. From the movie Gods and Generals:
"We are a band of brothers
And native to the soil,
Fighting for the property
We gained by honest toil;
And when our rights were threatened,
The cry rose near and far--
"Hurrah for the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar!"
CHORUS: Hurrah! Hurrah!
Individual rights hurrah!
Hurrah for the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar.
While the D.C elite,
Were faithful to their trust,
Like friends and like brothers
Both kind were we and just;
But now, when Federal treachery
Attempts our rights to mar,
We hoist on high the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar.--CHORUS
First gallant Rick Santelli
cried out from the exchange,
The people followed quickly,
rejecting this new "change".
Alaska's native daughter,
inspired many more
All raised on high the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar.--CHORUS
Ye men of valor, gather round
The banner of our fight;
From home to halls of Congress
The statist foe we smite.
We shall oppose the president,
his cronies and his tzars;
Now rally round the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar.--CHORUS
And then in old Virginia--
progressives met their fate--
Along with blue New Jersey
showed reforms can not wait;
Impelled by their example,
Now other states prepare
To hoist on high the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar.--CHORUS
Then cheer, boys, cheer;
Raise the joyous shout,
The two-ten midterms proved our case
There is no remaining doubt;
And let another rousing cheer
For freedom's light be given,
"Don't tread on me" from the Gadsden Flag
Flies proudly from our spar.--CHORUS
Then here's to our Republic,
Strong are we and brave;
Like patriots of old we'll fight
Our rule of law to save.
And rather than submit to shame,
To die we would prefer;
So cheer for the Gadsden Flag
Fly proudly from our spar.--CHORUS

Vic, might as well move the discussion up here. That's what the already announced closed places said in plain English. With many more to come, if they cannot get a waiver.
So what else will happen? Traffic will go way up for going off base to get their fast food fixes, dumping many extra pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere thereby displeasing Gaia. Not to mention the increased costs to military personnel to have to do extra driving. And their kids will now need to be transported off base to find starter jobs, or do without.
And keep in mind they are trying to kill off the commissaries as well.
The genius of the Progressives should leave us all in awe, or something.

If I recall my history correctly MD largely sided with the South and considered itself a southern State. The State legislature was considering a vote for secession and Lincoln had the entire legislature arrested and jailed to prevent that.

Not true. Lincoln did not have the entire legislature arrested. Some members of the state legislature MIGHT have been arrested, as various rabble rousers during that time were.
The state legislature actually voted down secession.
I know a lot of people still think Lincoln was a monster, but it doesn't help your case when you use false information.

Mal does use a sword in one episode for a duel. Also look closer. On his right leg is his holstered pistol.
Posted by: buzzion at April 19, 2014 08:44 AM (LI48c)
The book I read simply said they arrested the legislature. Here is a writeup from the State archives,
True the initial vote failed. But they intended to remeet for more action. Lincoln had the Army arrest the "pro-southern" members of the legislature which was probably a plurality.

The legislature voted against secession and voted against re-opening RR links to the North. The state representatives wanted a neutral state, denying the North the ability to stage military operations from Maryland. Lincoln figured enough was enough and crashed the party with fixed bayonets and arrest warrants.

I don't see a gun, an ammo belt or a grenade anywhere. And what's with the cutlass? I recall the duel episode, the sword was either an epee or rapier of some sort. I'm thinking that we're about to get Sinbad in Space instead of a true Firefly II.

Well the artwork is fake anyways. And the gun is there. You see that belt he's wearing? That's the belt for his gun. He doesn't wear a belt to keep his pants up. That's what the suspenders are for, because he wears a gun belt. the holster is hard to see because its the same color as his coat. But it is there, as is his holstered gun.

Don't know about fighting union cavalry (or VMI) but Citadel cadets were involved in numerous military actions during the late unpleasantness. That includes the initial action against Fort Sumter.
They have what is known as "battle streamers" as I recall.

In my safe deposit box are 2 .36 cal Navy Colts. One I bought from a seller and the other at a garage sale.
The garage sale Colt was wrapped in some kind of paper, heavily tarred. The nice old lady said that it was a family possession, she didn't know what it was, just that it was "some sort of gun" and she didn't want it around.
I paid her $25 for it.
Took 3 weeks of cleaning to discover what was underneath the protective coating.
I had it verified by Colt as authentic but never got around to having it evaluated--yet.

Several years ago, a sub returned from deployment to San Diego. When it came back in, something like 60% of the crew had the clap. Fearing all the jokes about "80 guys go out and 40 couples come back" were true, an investigation was done. Important to note that this sub did not make any liberty port calls. Turns out, someone had brought an inflatable "friend" on board and "she" had gotten passed around.
