Rosie Scenario Has Left the Building
CBO Nearly Triples Estimate of Work Hours Lost Due to Obamacare

— andy

Say it with me ... UNEXPECTEDLY!

[CBO cited] new estimates that the Affordable Care Act will cause a larger than-expected reduction in working hours - eliminating the equivalent of about 2.3 million workers in 2021 versus a previous estimate of an 800,000 decline.

If only someone could've cut through this manure beforehand, but we had to pass the law to find out what was in it. Or so I'm told. Of course, we all know what was in it ...

Wasn't it either Nancy or Slo Joe that said it'd create--from day of passage--400k or 500k jobs a month?

You know, all those repressed artists suddenly free of the shackles of their daily grind working for someone else merely to keep their health care would suddenly pour forth a torrent of creative works, sparking the ingenuity and entrepreneurship of all America?

24 11 I had read when CBO first came out with estimates of costs that they could only use information presented to them by the administration and congress? ,to give estimates.. Is this true? Absolutely true and Congress knows how to game the system. That's why you see all of these 10-year plans. It's why Obamacare "started" two years before the "benefits". It was 10 years of revenue and 8 years of cost.

AFAIK electric cars are only as affordable as they are due to government subsidies or automakers selling them at a loss to help their fleet mileage and emissions numbers.

Sadly, Hemmer didn't call him on it.

106 80 If only someone could've cut through this manure beforehand, but we had to pass the law to find out what was in it. Or so I'm told. I hear it's too dangerous to oppose this law. It would be suicide to call for its repeal as part of a debt ceiling increase. Because it's so popular, you see. Posted by: Bevel Lemelisk at February 04, 2014 11:03 AM (0hIQR) No no it's too suicidal to talk about repeal period. Because you see Obama will never repeal it so why even make it an issue. Best just to go along to get along. Convincing people that you actually have a spine and principles and are will at least make the effort to fight it is just awful. Gutless whiny pussies bring that up everyday here after all and that's just the kind of thinking we need to take the senate.

113 Posted by: willow at February 04, 2014 11:07 AM (nqBYe) Actually, the thing to remember is that "women" didn't. This is something on which the GOP got majorly bamboozled- and one of the reasons I'm so mad at the GOP for giving Harry Reid is pre-Christmas vote. The law has *never* been popular. I think the closest it ever got was on purely theoretical questions by very left leaning polling groups. On those it would tend to be in the 50%+ range- but most polls- even at the time- showed a majority (however thin) opposed. And opposition has only gotten stronger, deeper, and more broad as people have come to "find out what's in it." If the GOP *really* opposed the law, they could repeal it- either by forcing the Democrats to cry "uncle" or by showing that the Democrats won't, and winning a majority in Congress. Would TFG veto the repeal? Yes. Would Congress be able to override? Almost certainly not. But it would be seen (if Republicans built consensus by going to the people via direct adds and such) as SCOAMT vetoing a very popular repeal bill, rather than Republicans trying to "destroy Obama's legacy achievement."

118 Seeing the casual hate--HATE--the leftist feel free to spout forth because a few people--rightly--noticed the Coke ad was stupid is something to behold.*

Look, it's not the the multilingual part that is stupid.

(My initial thoughts)
It's the utter and transparent pandering of a totally discredited lie by a commercial corporation: That we are a better country if we embrace all these tenants of the multicultural leftists.

They, the multicultural leftist** have done their best to destroy the idea that is America, that being an American is the most unique, the highest ideal for any man, and given us that cheap notion that all cultures are equal.

I think that's what bugged me, that the song was supposed to be just as good no matter the language. No. It's a song about America. No more than Himno Nacional Mexicano would make sense in English.

Oh, and just because I don't swoon because a song about America is sung in different languages doesn't make me a racist.
So fuck you leftists.

*Is is just me, or are the leftists losing their damned minds? As they see every single "we won" crash and fail?

**And let us take a moment and be honest here: As usual, they don't believe a word they say. They have one culture, one they wish to force upon everyone: Communism, marxims, socialism, et al.--the grinding boot of the godless state upon all who dare be individuals.

I mean, I was pretty sure Europeans settling the New World was about opportunity and (frankly) population pressure. And I was pretty sure that not having a written language, not having advanced past stone-age technology, and not even having figured out farming was pretty well the definition of "savage" at the time. Heck, the Mesopotamians had figured out farming (and, therefore, beer) a good 4000+ years previously.

181
CBOÂ’s estimate that the ACA will reduce employment reflects some of the inherent trade-offs involved in designing such legislation.

Subsidies that help lower income people purchase an expensive product like health insurance must be relatively large to encourage a significant proportion of eligible people to enroll. If those subsidies are phased out with rising income in order to limit their total costs, the phaseout effectively raises peopleÂ’s marginal tax rates (the tax rates applying to their last dollar of income), thus discouraging work.

In addition, if the subsidies are financed at least in part by higher taxes, those taxes will further discourage work or create other economic distortions, depending on how the taxes are designed.

Alternatively, if subsidies are not phased out or eliminated with rising income, then the increase in taxes required to finance the subsidies would be much larger.

=======
Let me explain just how evil that it: It is out-and-out theft.

Because, now the only insurance they can get is Medicaid. And to be eligible for Medicaid, an individual can't have more than $2k in the bank ($5k for couples).
If they do, they have to pay more for the Medicaid.

Not content with stealing their savings via hidden inflation using interest-free loans to the banks, they are now forcing them to spend it.

Can't speak to Kaiser or "others," but part of licensing the BCBS name requires that the plan be a not-for-profit organization (which is different from 'non-profit'). I remember we got some *nice* bonus checks from BCBSTX every year because we'd made too much money- so the board banked as much as they could (there were statutory limits, IIRC), and then gave the rest as bonuses to the employees. And before anyone says, "They should have returned that to the members!" 1- It wasn't direct members who were making us the profits- it was our group plans. 2- Part of that "banked as much as they could" was designed to keep rates as low as feasible. 3- How would you like to work for a place that kept costs low enough that they had massive profits- and then instead of giving a bunch of it to the employees, turned around and refunded their customers?

Effects of the Employer Penalty on Labor Supply

In CBO’s judgment, the costs of the penalty eventually will be borne primarily by workers in the form of reductions in wages or other compensation—just as the costs of a payroll tax levied on employers will generally be passed along to employees.

Because the supply of labor is responsive to changes in compensation, the employer penalty will ultimately induce some workers to supply less labor.

You underestimate the cupidity of the GOP Establishment.  Even now, their masters at the US Chamber of Commerce are demanding that they yank the reins on those damnable Tea Party extremists and get moving with a quickness on immigration reform. Thanks to them, we won't do as well as we could.

True story: my late Stepfather was a Humphrey delegate at the 1968 Chicago Democratic Party convention. Each of the states had an area cordoned off for delegate use, a place where people could grab some coffee or smoke a cigarette or hang out, so all of the Indiana delegates were more or less taking a break when some big Indiana furniture magnate shows up, looking for Indiana Senator Birch Bayh (father of later Governor then Senator Evan Bayh).

The furniture tycoon was a big donor to Democratic candidates and incumbents in Indiana, and he was furious, demanding to see Senator Bayh for one reason or another. His exact words were (according to my Stepfather), "I bought him, I paid for him, and damnit I want to see him right now. Get him here."

That's when my Stepfather saw Birch Bayh, a United States Senator, run into the delegate's break area--not walk, not walk briskly, but run--nearly at a sprint--to curry to the needs--whatever they were--of a major political donor.

My Stepfather switched parties later in life and became a Republican. In hindsight, I should've told him not to bother.

I know lots of jobs that pay less than that as a function of *wage* but provide nice benefits (401K matching, good health insurance, tuition, etc.). Would such a law take those into account? Because if not, I can expect those benefits will start to go away. 255 Posted by: tsrblke, PhD(c) No Really! at February 04, 2014 11:39 AM (GaqMa) Well, yes, I was agreeing with you. Actually, "Not-for-profit" is far more strict than "non-profit." NFP means you're only allowed so much "profit" (defined, I think, simply as revenue above expenses- but there could be some curlicues of which I'm unaware) in a year. That is- you can only bank so much. If you bank more than that, you lose your NFP status- which would get your license for BCBS yanked. So Companies that license the BCBS name play a lot of accounting games, but there's only so much they can do- which means they're already keeping rates as low as they reasonably can.

I think some researchers have been able to spoof GPS signals being sent to a boat and sent it off course.  Could be useful if the ship is in a narrow channel and a small unnoticed deviation sent it onto a reef.

They don't care about their constituents being targeted by the opposition party, or their constituents' misgivings over pursuing immigration. Every political pundit is scratching their head over the loony decision to pursue immigration reform right now. They are not behaving as an opposition party. Therefore, they aren't one.

Medicaid is a "Federal/State joint program" which basically means the States handle* it and fund part (half-ish?) of it, and the Federal Government picks up the rest. *-That is, the State finds an administrator, and sets a few rules- most of the coverage is currently mandated from the Feds.

A few states have tried to create a "super-Medicaid" of sorts that would lead towards universal coverage. But from what I know, every one of those has more or less crashed and burned. Actually the current trend is to hire companies to shuffle people off Medicaid onto SSDI (which is a pure federal program, not joint/state fed) which helps states control their budget (since lots of states require balanced budgets.)

Yep.  On the company, Intraweb, we had a presentation about how much profit we make--1%.  Compare us to bottled water, candy, soda, and cigarettes, all of which are sold for far greater profits.  We also don't deny claims unless there has been major malfeasance, fraud, or a few other narrow legal reasons.  It is far cheaper for us to pay a claim than deny it and go to court.  We pay claims every day that technically we could reject.

It turned out to be Batman Markham Origins "With Game play". I had no idea what that meant. I started, and kind of liked, it, but I'm not sure what I was watching. Game instructions occasionally appear, boss battle power bars appear, etc. as a Batman movie unfolds. So, how did someone make that? Get awesome at the game, so he could just blast through levels with no setbacks, keeping the story perfectly linear, and the dialogue sensical? That's pretty cool.

330 Some enterprising group of individuals, perhaps a few with political attachments, could, possibly, if they chose to, point out the negative effects that Progressive/Dimocrat policies are having on the country OK, stop right there. If the people voting Dim gave three shits about the country, they wouldn't vote Dim. You would have to prove to them that the Dims were screwing them, personally, before it would have impact. And the Dims are the ones providing their binkies. And remember, the junkie thinks their pusher is their friend. Nevermind they're killing them.

340 The Dims objective is two fold with regards to converting health insurance to single payer.

Single Payer:   Once it is in and staffed with the appropriate people, they effectively control this population cradle to grave.

Reserves held by health insurance companies:  Literally billions and billions of real dollars, not funny money, real money.  HICs are required to have liquid reserves that will cover a full one year's maximum payout per subscriber.  A lot of blood, sweat, and tears goes into calculating that amount each year in order to account for such variables as flu, pneumonia, etc.  It is usually around 1.5 to 2 million per head.  So they must maintain billions to cover all the people they insure.  If and when they seize and nationalize the HICs, some of that money will stick to the correct grubby little paws.

351 There has never, ever, been a more economic illiterate President than this dope. Forget economics (though those are a factor, too), the main reason most schools don't have WiFi is that they don't want kids using the internet just whenever. Many (most?) have gone so far as to install technology that even blocks most phone transmissions. And forget even illegal/inadvisable sites (which could be blocked). Are you going to block m-w.com? How about Wikipedia or other (more accurate) research sites? Kids doing research papers need access to that, but you *don't* want the kid just sitting in class to have access via their smart-phone or (as many schools are starting to do) school-issued-tablet.

The hacker can always get the necessary electronics out of any legitimate vehicle, and convince that vehicles' computer that it is on the course and speed that he chooses. The RF transmission will be legit to include all encryption and error checking. It will be a bonafide transmission triggered by false data fed to the the hacked electronic system. The victim's car computer will interpret as completely legitimate. Simply unfixable.

He also has pituitary dwarfism, but right now we're on a break from the growth hormone shots to see if he can maintain his growth.Fingers crossed, because daily shots are not fun, especially for a kids with sensory issues! Thanks for asking. I would say it may be time to get a lawyer for your brother to help him get on SSDI. So many people get denied when they should clearly be on it, meanwhile parents are milking the system for a few kids with ADHD. Infuriating! And there are residency requirements, you can't just move to a state and have immediate medicaid coverage. Most states are at least six months residency with an address before you are considered a resident and eligible. This is what happens to many elderly parents whose kids want to bring them to the state they live in for a nursing home...they run into the residency requirement. You need to visit the local Medicaid office for information on your particular state.

389 It is hard to blame the CBO estimates.  By law, they cannot use any numbers or formulae other than those they are specified to use.  Democrats controlled both House and Senate when ObamaCare was passed and built in the "rosy scenario" assumptions that were used for the earlier estimates.

Later estimates are based on the actual data coming in.

391 you have allowed us to renew faith in you?why is immigration even being discussed at this point with the economy limping so? a feint? You might have noticed that every now and then politicians play politics. We have a president who virtually everyone acknowledges is increasingly lawless and not only threatening but actually doing things by going around congress. Remember the Dream Act? Dems have nothing to run on this year. Nada. Not the economy, not Obamacare, not even foreign policy which is threatening to explode and even Kerry is admitting is a failure. But they have to run on something. So they will go back to their tried and true bashing Republicans for a war on women and having no plan for illegal immigration. They have been doing this for years and doing it successfully. Republicans have been countering by increasingly putting women out front, McMorris and Ros-Lehtinen both gave SOTU responses and there will be more of this stuff and beginning a discussion on immigration reform which everyone knows needs to be tackled. Just screaming enforce the law has not worked and will not work with a president who picks and chooses which laws he will enforce and has been notably not enforcing immigration law. So the Republican put out a statement of principles, not a bill, that talks about border and interior enforcement that can only been attested to by people outside the Obama administration with no pathway to citizenship, something the left absolutely demands, and thats all they have done. It prevents the left from saying that Republicans have no ideas and hopefully it also keeps Obama from acting unilaterally which he has threatened repeatedly. And anyone who has been paying attention to this issue knows that the House has been holding hearings on illegal immigration for over a year, many chaired by Gowdy. This is not a new issue, its one the msm is trying to stir up angst on the right. If you saw Ryan on the tube on Sunday he said he doubted that there would be a bill this year, largely because Republicans don't trust Obama to obey the law. This is a theme that keeps getting hammered and its a good one. Put the blame for no reform right back on Obama. If people actually read the article that is causing some freak out they would have seen this. >>Some on Capitol Hill downplayed the latest House discussions. “There are no across-the-aisle discussions on substance yet,” said one House Democratic aide who is closely involved in the issue. So which is it, are Ryan and Gowdy selling us out with a secret plan or have there not even been any substantive discussions yet? Another top House Dem and Pelosi lieutenant pulled the ripcord today, Andrews of NJ. This is the 4th senior Dem to bolt in a week. Obama's approval has sunk to new lows and is continuing down. The Senate is absolutely in play and prospects are looking better everyday. And you don't think professional politicians on the right have noticed this?

400 >>They can't get a majority of voters to blame Obama for the bad economy instead of Bush, couldn't get them to blame the park closures on Obama, but they'll blame no reform on Obama this time? We acknowledge here everyday that we have an msm that is hopelessly biased. The only reason Obama has gotten away with what he has so far is because they cover for their boyfriend. And yes, that has helped Obama dodge blame for a lot of things. So what? Are you advocating giving up or just doing nothing which has worked so well for us on this issue since never. There is no amnesty in this statement of principles put out by the House. It specifically says no pathway to citizenship other than getting to the back of the line. And anyone who wants to stay under some sort of legalization without citizenship deal would need to register, pay a fine and back taxes and get zero benefits including the right to vote. The left has never agreed to this. All they care about is votes. And there is no bill to even vote on.

401 You need to keep something in your stomach all day. Eat another scone.

402 398 This is a theme that keeps getting hammered and its a good one. Put the blame for no reform right back on Obama. Why the fuck would people care about that, if they don't care about the NSA, IRS, Fast and Furious, Benghazi... Or are you thinking latinos will abandon the Democrats? Instead of this convoluted maze of misdirection, it seems simpler to me to take them at their word. 1) The RNC published a document saying inroads need to be made with hispanics. 2) The Chamber of Commerce wants amnesty. 3) Paul Ryan and John Boehner both say they want amnesty. But instead we're supposed to sit tight, because it won't happen, because you say so.

403 You need to visit the local Medicaid office for information on your particular state. Posted by: Jen at February 04, 2014 12:21 PM (4t/Y9) Jen, He lived in MA until late 2005. He was born here and grew up here, had kids here, etc. I called one day last week & woman gave me phone number for Maine Care. Paul needs to put in some effort himself. I have a job but am home sick today. Thank you,

404 We acknowledge here everyday that we have an msm that is hopelessly biased. The only reason Obama has gotten away with what he has so far is because they cover for their boyfriend. And yes, that has helped Obama dodge blame for a lot of things. Why do they need to do this? They could hammer him on Obamacare. 97% of the country rated other issues as more important than immigration. And nobody's gonna give a shit about a bill that fails. Aside from the GOP, who takes about the Senate bill that failed?

406 >>But instead we're supposed to sit tight, because it won't happen, because you say so. You can do whatever you want. You have your opinion and I have mine. I don't see Trey Gowdy pushing amnesty. But if you do then have at it.

411 Bill Clinton always looked a little guilty and uncomfortable when he was lying and you could see it.

This one lies, looks away, and smirks. It is so disgusting.

Yeah, and he always did that thing where he looked over at the interviewer out of the corners of his eyes with a look on his face that said, "You buyin' this, hoss? Or do I have to tap dance a little longer."

i recall President Obama saying something along the lines of "let's not quibble over  the math." as if that wasn't an important part what the republicans were objecting to. the math was fucked from the get go.

anyone else remember that? it really pissed me off.

pathological altruism demonstrated right before our eyes.

Posted by: The Poster Formerly Known as Mr. Barky at February 04, 2014 01:18 PM (OPzNA) Both companies consider themselves global companies. Their patriotism is to the world, not to the USA. Look at both of their websites, there leadership, mission statements, etc. are all there to read. Then read National Beverage Company's website, which is the parent company of Shasta/Faygo. The first thing you notice is the American Flag on the home page. I know which company I'll support.
