— Ace You know how everyone in the press is poo-pooing the Slestak Bribe story? Claiming that's shady but not illegal?
Can anyone explain to me what Rod Blagojevich is on trial for, then?

Of course it did. I was responsible for the whole thing, 'cause I'm still that influential and awesome. Now forget I ever said anything.

You see Barack Obama offered Sestak a government job for something he wanted, and Rod whatever his name offered someone a government job for something he wanted.
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

I'm waiting for the day Barry and family are ensconced back in Chateau de Barky in Chi-town, and see if his old pals start penning their own memoirs. And you know they will.

Let me make that halfway readable.
James Taranto (Best of the Web, WSJ Online) said last Friday:
"The remaining question is one of interpretation. Gibbs is fairly clear in denying there was a direct promise of a job if Romanoff quit the race, but the law would still have been broken if someone 'indirectly made such a promise. But how would a prosecutor prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a promise was indirectly made? It may be possible, but the exacting standard of criminal guilt poses a problem in light of the vagueness of the law's prohibition."
The Federal statute he quoted says:
"Whoever, directly or indirectly, promises any employment, position, compensation, contract, appointment, or other benefit, provided for or made possible in whole or in part by any Act of Congress, or any special consideration in obtaining any such benefit, to any person as consideration, favor, or reward for any political activity or for the support of or opposition to any candidate or any political party in connection with any general or special election to any political office, or in connection with any primary election or political convention or caucus held to select candidates for any political office, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both."
Note the bolded clause. The statute applies both to a promise of a job and to a promise of special consideration in obtaining a job. That covers "I'll see what I can do, pull a few strings, grease the skids" as well as "we'll make sure you end up with something worthwhile." In the Romanoff case, Mr. Messina didn't just take a call from Mr. Romanoff following up on the latter's application -- a guy committed to the Senate race wouldn't need or want to follow up on an application he had no interest in pursuing, and as Gibbs himself states, it was Messina and not Romanoff who made the phone call in hopes of furthering a political objective.
It sounds like a provable proposition that Messina called Romanoff to offer the promise of special consideration in getting the USAID job in return for Romanoff dropping his Senate bid. My only question is whether the law was still violated in light of the fact that Messina's proffered promise was turned down.

Everyone does do it. At least in Chicago.
I think that's Blago's whole defense. It's fricken Chicago!
Unforunately for Blago, it's Chicago. We put our used up governors in jail... it's what we do. Everyone does it. When approval drops below 35% they all go in the klink.
But as for the rest of you, this is what you get for electing someone from Chicago.
That's why I don't vote for anyone running for anything round these parts.

"Slestak" has only two syllables. Could be from practically anywhere in Central or Eastern Europe.
"Blagojevich" has four syllables, and it's very Slavic. I say it's leftover Cold War prejudice against Commie-sounding names.

I've been watching politics for a long time and I have never seen a press so eager to cover up for a president. The press beat both carter and clinton with a club when they fucked up. Obama they just look the other way and pet their unicorns.
If Bush was kicking reporters off airplanes and not letting the photograph the millions of acres of oil in the gulf the press would be stealing airplanes and flying them themselves just daring Bush to do anything to stop them.
Obama does it and there is nothing but silence.

Now, a few, with the support and love of the left; the world wide socialists and communists have risen to prominence and they want to make some step down so that others can take their rightful place in the hierarchy of America. It doesn' t matter what Obama does but what his goals are. He can do whatever he thinks is right to achieve the aims of correcting the wrongs that so many have suffered for so long.
The wealth has been in the hand of the capitalists and producers and it must not stay there. It belongs to the workers. It's about revolution. Did the people know Lenin was wrong or Castro or Che? No, they weren't wrong, they did everything for the glory of the revolution.

BUT, Blago knows where the skeletons are, this is going to be FUN!
I see Rahmn with a dick in his ass in prison.
I also see Watergate potential here. MSM is ignoring it now, but they won't much longer, "the one" is wounded and losing his "Magical Negro" powers everyday.
So think he'll pull a Clinton and fire all the US Attorneys? Count down!

What I find really amusing is that James Clyburn wants an investigation into how Alvin Greene got the $10,000 filing fee to run in the US Senate Democratic primary in South Carolina. The guy gets about 60% of the vote and now Clyburn is floating this theory that he is some GOP/Tea Party plant! He still won the primary! How did the Republicans work that one?
At the same time, the Democrats don't see a problem with the Obama Administration bribing candidates to drop out of Democratic primary contests in favor of accepting government jobs in their adminstration. So what if somebody but up ten grand for this guy to run? Does that really compare to the White House offering a taxpayer funded job in return for a favor? These Greene character still had to get voted in. I mean which situation is worse? It was Democratic voters in SC that voted for the guy. Do they bear some responsibility if the guy does not prove up to the task?

What sort of campaign did the other Dem candidate run that let him get beat by a complete unknown who didn't campaign at all? There must have been quite a few voters who cast their votes AGAINST the other guy instead of for Greene, and quite a few others who pretty much just marked the first name on the ballot because they had no idea who either candidate was.
Democrats seem to be addicted to do-overs in primaries: whenever they nominate a crook or a creep or a cretin, they move to eliminate the voters' choice and install a hand-picked establishment candidate. They ought to be held to the selection their own party members made -- notwithstanding the fact that those party members have proven themselves to be incompetent and ignorant.

I can, Ace. Lights, please.
And there were in Illinois mobsters abiding in the street, keeping watch over their bribes by night.
And, lo, the minion of the Soros came upon them, and the money of the Soros shone round about them: and they were so greedy.
And the minion said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all sheeple.
For unto you is born this day in an undisclosed location a Savior, which is Obama the Douche.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in red diapers, lying with abandon.
And suddenly there was with the minion a multitude of the union thugs praising Marx, and saying,
Hope 'n' Change in the nation, and on earth bows, apologies toward all.
Blagojavich made Obama look bad.
And that is why he's going to jail, Ace.

They're lying. It's illegal. And everyone knows that it's illegal. The Dems used to be a little more clever about these unethical tactics, using jobs in private think tanks, PACs and other organizations to buy people off. The Indonesian Imbecile offers straight-up federal jobs because he doesn't care about trying to stay within the law (while totally violating the spirit of it). He likes to break the law because then he gets to see conservatives writhe in agony over what to do. "What are you going to do, impeach me? Try it. You idiots couldn't even get me to cough up a birth certificate and school records. LOL. I've actually been able to make 'conservatives' fight for the idiotic idea that someone holding 147 different citizenships qualifies as a natural born citizen, as per the Constitution and the Founders' intentions. You people are scared of me and everyone knows it. Go ahead and try to hold me accountable. The cities will burn, bitches."
