Yeah, the Lazy Sunday thing, and its imitations, are old, but this one's by US troops based in Ramadi, Iraq.

Note they include a link for donating to a fund for wounded soldiers.

More Good News: Senate Votes To Build 370 Miles of Triple-Layer Fence On Border
— Ace

Just a headline on Drudge right now.

370 miles isn't enough, but it's a start. The more fence and wall, the easier it will be for the Border Patrol and National Guard to protect the border.

Restaurant Name Arouses Passions
— Ace

"Pink Taco" Fingered For Bad Taste

Yup:

The name of a new restaurant in Scottsdale is stirring up some trouble. The Las Vegas-based Pink Taco Mexican Restaurant is scheduled to open its second location in downtown Scottsdale in June.

Nearly half a dozen people in the upscale city recently expressed their objection to the name, claiming it's a derogatory slang term for a portion of the female anatomy.

Really? I didn't know. The company claims it doesn't know, either:

...

Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross has said she is offended by the name and went so far as to ask the owner to change it, although he refused.

Restaurant spokeswoman Lisa Perez said the company's name comes from one of its menu items.

Other items on the menu include roast-beef salad, "sausage hot-pockets," and -- I'm not even sure I know what these are -- "stankclams."

Thief Risks Three-Strikes Life Term To Reveal Stolen Evidence Against Pedophile
— Ace

Now here's a case for executive clemency:

Matthew Ryan Hahn glared in disbelief at the digital photographs of a man molesting a girl. She was only a year old, maybe 2.

The next thing to do would be obvious -- call police. But Hahn had been convicted of burglary more than once. And the memory card on which he discovered the photos came from a stolen safe.

Hahn knew being nabbed for another crime could make him a three-striker and send him to prison for life. But the images were burned into his mind. One photo showed some freshly overturned earth -- could the little girl already have been killed and buried?

After a sleepless night, Hahn took the card, placed it inside a pink change purse and attached a typewritten note. It said: ``Please remove this animal from the streets.''

He wrapped the whole thing in a package that he jammed into a random mailbox. It was addressed to the Los Gatos Police Department.

A year later, Hahn, 26, is in Elmwood correctional facility. Housed in the next building over, in protective custody, is John ``Robbie'' Robertson Aitken. The 22-year-old with no previous criminal record is charged with molesting his infant goddaughter -- his boss's child.

This is the story of two young Los Gatos men, both facing life in prison, and how one's crime may have halted the other's.

``There is honor among thieves,'' said Dana Overstreet, who is prosecuting Aitken. ``In my case, Hahn is a hero.''

Hahn won't admit he burglarized the safe-- he just says he got the camera's memory stick... somehow. He's up on 12 counts of buglary, possession of stolen property, and grand theft (for other criminal acts, not the instant one).

Al Gore's Enivro-Scare Movie Website Asks You To "Pledge" To See It
— Ace

Great, another homework assignment from a liberal professor.

Don't they know I'm too busy fulfilling a similar pledge to watch Keith Olbermann every night?

In related news, Sam Jackson isn't asking for a plege to see Snakes on a Plane. He's just telling you how it's gonna be.

Also At Karol's: A blogger and genuine conservative defeated a five-term incumbent in a Pennsylvania Republican statehouse primary.

Statehouse Primary, Not Congressional Primary: Thanks to Harry Calahan for the correction, who has just been banned.

Hamas-Fatah Power Struggle Intensifies
— Ace

Gee, I sure hope this doesn't erupt in widespread violence or anything:

- The Palestinians' defiant Hamas-led government sent a new militant force into the streets of Gaza on Wednesday, disregarding President Mahmoud Abbas' order banning the creation of the security body and raising the stakes in their deepening power struggle.

Hamas appeared to have been propelled into action by mysterious drive-by shootings that killed two of its militants in the Gaza Strip hours earlier. These and other recent cases of deadly infighting have threatened to plunge the Palestinian territories into bloody chaos.

Wow, Hamas was "propelled" into taking a provocative action. The media spins for them even when they're up against fellow thugs Fatah.

...

The Hamas-led government and Abbas have been locked in a power struggle since the Islamic militant group ousted Abbas' long-ruling Fatah party in January parliamentary elections.

Abbas, who directly controls three security forces, appointed an ally as head of the remaining three security branches, which fall under the command of the Hamas-led Interior Ministry.

In response, Interior Minister Said Siyam announced a plan last month to create the new force, which would be solely under his control.

Abbas vetoed the force, which is to number about 3,000 fighters and be headed by Jamal Abu Samhadana, a key player in ongoing rocket attacks on Israel and a suspect in the deadly 2003 bombing of an American convoy in the Gaza Strip.

Ignoring Abbas, Siyam said the unit would begin operating immediately.

Within hours, dozens of members of the armed force, all wearing the beards favored by observant Muslims, were deployed in central and southern Gaza. At the Bureij refugee camp, about 75 fighters patrolled the camp or took up positions outside.

Members of a security branch answerable to Abbas stood just a few yards away.

Siyam activated the new force just hours after masked gunmen killed a member of Hamas' military wing before dawn in a drive-by shooting at the Jebaliya refugee camp.

On Tuesday evening, another Hamas activist was killed in a similar attack in Gaza City. Two more Hamas activists were wounded in a third shooting. Those attacks came less than a day after the cars of senior Fatah militants were blown up in Gaza City.

Senate Limits Immigration To 9 Million Over 20 Years
— Ace

On the downside, they voted against sealing the border first before "reforming" immigration:

The Senate yesterday voted against securing the border before implementing provisions that would grant the right of citizenship to millions of illegal aliens and that would double the flow of legal immigration.

The amendment would have delayed the "amnesty" and guest-worker provisions in the Senate's comprehensive immigration-reform bill until the border had been sewn up successfully. The majority of Democrats, 36 of 44, were joined by 18 Republicans and the chamber's lone independent to kill the amendment on an 55-40 vote.

But this should hearten conservative sovereignists. Even Politpundit:

But those favoring tougher immigration restrictions were not completely without victories yesterday.

The guest-worker program -- which had been estimated to bring in more than 130 million new workers and family members over the next 20 years -- was scaled back severely last night. The Senate approved an amendment, which Capitol Hill Republicans said the White House had lobbied against, to cap the guest-worker program at 200,000 new workers each year.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, who has led the effort to reveal the numerical consequences of the Senate bill, hailed last night's action and said it would reduce the final number of guest workers and family members to fewer than 9 million over the next two decades.

"This amendment represented a massive victory over the open-borders lobby," he said after the overwhelming vote to approve the amendment. "It fundamentally changed the low-skill foreign-worker caps under the Senate bill by doing two things -- reducing the annual low-skill foreign-worker cap from 325,000 to 200,000 per year and eliminating the automatic 20 percent increase to the cap that could have occurred annually."

Earlier this week, The Washington Times reported that the Senate bill would have more than doubled the annual flow of legal immigration into the country. Yesterday, The Times reported that two separate analyses -- one by Mr. Sessions, the other by the Heritage Foundation --. estimated that the bill overall ultimately could bring in as many as 193 million new legal immigrants over the next 20 years.
