— Ace At UCLA's Daily Bruin, the MSM terrorist-apologists-in-training seem to have bright futures ahead of them.
Note: I originally wrote this as a critique of the article's author. Then I remembered that headlines are more a decision for the editorial staff; the author doesn't necessarily get to headline her own article.
The article itself seems pretty fact-based. It's the headline that offends, and that can't necessarily be blamed on the writer. Although her title is "Senior Staff."
Still... could just be a consensus decision by the paper's editors.
Researcher vows to stop using animals
UCLA professor made his decision in response to pressure from rights activists, officials sayBy Julia Erlandson
DAILY BRUIN SENIOR STAFF
A UCLA professor has vowed to stop experimenting on animals as a result of pressure from animal rights activists, UCLA officials and one activist group said.
Pressure, huh? Protests and the like, I imagine.
Dario Ringach, an associate professor of neuroscience, sent an e-mail to the Animal Liberation Front on Tuesday titled, "You win," promising to stop his animal testing, according to a statement released by the Animal Liberation Press Office.University spokeswoman Judy Lin confirmed that Ringach did send the e-mail, but said there was no indication that he planned to leave the university.
The Animal Liberation Front also claimed responsibility for the June attempted firebombing of faculty member Lynn Fairbanks' home.
Pressure?
...The statement released by the Animal Liberation Press Office said Ringach did not give a specific reason for his decision, but did ask that animal rights groups leave his family alone.
"These groups have been harassing him and visiting his neighbors for a couple of years, and he does have small children," Lin said.
Pressure?
Pressure is what the Daily Bruin idiots are going to get when people email them and tell them to stop calling stalking, harrassment, and the attempted firebombing of a home "pressure."
Firebombing a home is not "pressure."
Good God. Is there no depth these people can't sink to in order to apolgize for terrorism?
Congratulations, Daily Bruin staff. You're gonna be Media Stars someday.
Thanks to Robert.
Clarification: I didn't realize the firebombing was, uhh, "merely" an "attempted" one. A couple of commenters have put me some information, and I've added that word. Thanks.

— Ace His Red roots are showing.
His great-grandfather, Thomas W. Lamont, was chairman of J.P. Morgan. A wealthy progressive pacifist, he was the sugar daddy for the American Communist Party and other extreme left-wing organizations. His wife, Florence, belonged to such subversive groups as the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship and American Committee for Friendship with the Soviet Union.Their son, Corliss Lamont, was an unapologetic Stalinist and atheist. Congress once declared him "probably the most persistent propagandist for the Soviet Union to be found anywhere in the United States." As national chairman of The Friends of Soviet Russia, he refused to condemn Josef Stalin's show trials in the 1930s. For 22 years, he was director of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has been financed by communists and dedicated to advancing Marxism since its inception and to this day seeks to impose socialism and atheism on America. He also chaired the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee for 30 years, during which time he fought efforts to root out Soviet spies and sympathizers in the U.S. government and military. He ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate from New York in 1952 with the American Labor Party and in 1958 with the Independent Socialist Party; both parties fronted communist causes. Near the end of his life, he befriended Cuba's Stalinist tyrant, Fidel Castro.
According to one recent commentary, Corliss' nephew, Edward M. "Ted" Lamont Sr., embraced liberal-socialism "and passed his religious devotion to atheistic materialism along to his son." Ned Lamont, in turn, has surrounded himself with people who may be characterized fairly as dedicated socialists and borderline communists.
To be fair, they just show up at his house and start dancing and jumping up and down around him. I don't think it's cool to blame him for that.
Thanks to "Red Jack" Straw.

— Ace Now might be a good time to support Australia, take some of this absurd supply off the market, and stock up on on some excellent Aussie wine:
A GRAPE glut has provided a happy return for wine lovers in Australia who can now buy their favourite tipple for less than the cost of bottled water. While a billion litres of unsold wine languishes in storage across the country and wine makers watch their share prices fall, Australians are buying good quality wines at bargain-basement rates, even below the price of mineral water.
Record grape harvests for the past three years have swamped storage cellars with unsold wine. The amount of wine now held in tanks is the equivalent of the entire industryÂ’s annual export output.
In the mid-1990s Australian wine makers embarked on a massive vine planting programme as they attempted to catch up with worldwide demand for wines.
But some believe that overplanting has tipped the balance too far, and above average yields for the past three years have drowned the industry.
Wine makers are moving quality wines at cheap prices by selling them in unlabelled bottles, known as “clean skins”, a term originally applied to unbranded livestock.
At those prices, you're getting a bargain even with transoceanic shipping.

— Ace Science:
Woolly mammoths, that have been frozen in permafrost for thousands of years may contain viable sperm that could be used to bring them back from the dead, scientists said yesterday.Research has indicated that mammalian sperm can survive being frozen for much longer than was previously thought, suggesting that it could potentially be recovered from species that have died out.
Several well-preserved mammoth carcasses have been found in the permafrost of Siberia, and scientists estimate that there could be millions more.
Last year a Canadian team demonstrated that it was possible to extract DNA from the specimens, and announced the sequencing of about 1 per cent of the genome of a mammoth that died about 27,000 years ago.
With access to the mammothÂ’s genetic code, and with frozen sperm recovered from testes, it may be possible to resurrect an animal that is very similar to a mammoth.
The mammoth is a close genetic cousin of the modern Asian elephant, and scientists think that the two may be capable of interbreeding.
The frozen mammoth sperm could be injected into elephant eggs, producing offspring that would be 50 per cent mammoth.
Well, okay, half-mammoths, then. Still, pretty good.
No, um, saber-tooth tigers found in the ice? Damnit. That's one I'd like to bring back.
The politics of this are very helpful. If we can do this, the next time some dweeb whines about the snail darter, just say, "Yeah? Snail darter, huh? How, uh, you likin' those woolly mammoths we just brought back? Kind of a decent exchange, huh?"

— Ace It's a small poll, but still. 37% of Daily Kos posters agree that "Mike Wallace was totally jingoistic and rude" in his interview with Iran's only legal blogger, and another 10% agree that "George Bush is an idiot and Mike Wallace is his pawn."
As the New York Times brands them: Moderates.
Wow.
The Daily Kos should, uhhh, kinda stop doing these polls, huh?
More "Moderates"... A pretty sick compilation video from Chad at My Pet Jawa of political pornography for/making use of children.
Had enough?
Why on earth is Europe allowing Muslim immigrants to come to that continent and remain on the doll all their lives?
We don't have the same problem with Muslims in America as Europe does; not even close. And I think a good reason for that is that here, you can't just sit on your asses all day in coffeeshops spewing conspiracy theories about the Jews while collecting welfare.
Muslims who come here come here to work, by and large, not to live like state-subsidized intellectuals/terrorists in training.
Put a three-month-per year cap on the dole for all recent immigrants, and Europe would see its terrorist problem drop in half in... well, in about three months, actually.
Another "Moderate" Spotted:
Zombietime, of course, has much more.
Only "Moderately" Anti-Semitic... ProSemite Undercover wades into DU to find and post some its typical antisemitism.
Thanks to RW.
And make sure you read the comments to this thread, where commenters catch DU & HuffPo "moderates" wishing for, inter alia, the beheading of the FoxNews reporter and a "bullet between the eyes" of our "Nazi scum president."

— Ace Plus it's a pretty good song. Sounds like the follow-up to My Sharona the Knack should have released instead of Good Girls Don't.
As YouTube Is Down... This link should open a high bandwidth WMV file of the song, from the band's site.
Thanks to CraigC and yls.
Watching Again... One take, no edits. They go slightly out of sync in a couple of places, but that's pretty good. (Unless this very cheap-looking video has some kind of very sophisticated CGI effect to disguise a few edits... which doesn't seem very likely.)
How many damn takes did these guys do to get that one good take? Like, thirty? Forty?
Or Are There...? Maybe I've got fauxtography on the brain, but I think only lunatics would try this in one take. There are a couple of places where everyone is pretty well frozen; I wonder if a CGI morph couldn't marry one still shot from one take into a still shot from the next.
MAJOR RETRACTION/CORRECTION: Okay, not that major. But the "frozen" parts I think now were just stuttering video on my computer. It looks like one straight take. So they are lunatics.
More... Shawn, but not lowercased shawn, in some Dave at Garfield Ridge "It's Old" move, tells me he bought two of the band's CD's today.
He also says to check out their website, where a lot of videos are available. He recommends the band's "instructional videos." A funny one on ping pong is here.
However... As funny as all that is, I think this video, linked on this site in its third week or so, is still the funniest video eveh. more...

— Ace What did you guys think was going to happen? Did you think we were just going to let your fellow Muslims kills us, with only the smallest amount of help from you in stopping them, forever?
Did you think we would never decide "It is you who are causing the problem. It is you who should bear most of the inconvenience/'humiliation' from the problem"?
What you've been taking as "weakness" and "stupidity" was just a naive, idealistic hope that if we treated you well enough you would stop. You didn't. The naivete and idealism are giving way to cold hard ugly realities forced upon us by your soft support of terorism.
THE Government is discussing with airport operators plans to introduce a screening system that allows security staff to focus on those passengers who pose the greatest risk.
The passenger-profiling technique involves selecting people who are behaving suspiciously, have an unusual travel pattern or, most controversially, have a certain ethnic or religious background. The system would be much more sophisticated than simply picking out young men of Asian appearance. But it would cause outrage in the Muslim community because its members would be far more likely to be selected for extra checks.
I'm not British, but my reserve of concern for "Muslim outrage" is quite tapped out.
Gone.
You emptied the tank.
We no longer care so much about living in a tolerate, perfectly-equal multiethnic society.
We now care much more about living. Period.
Officials at the Department for Transport (DfT) have discussed the practicalities of introducing such a system with airport operators, including BAA. They believe that it would be more effective at identifying potential terrorists than the existing random searches. They also say that it would greatly reduce queues at security gates, which caused lengthy delays at London airports yesterday for the fifth day running. Heathrow and Gatwick were worst affected, cancelling 69 and 27 flights respectively. BAA gave warning yesterday that the disruption would continue for the rest of the week.
Exactly.
Muslims will say, "Why should be inconvenienced or humiliated for the excesses of a few?"
And the rest of us say, "Why should we be inconvenienced or humiliated for the excesses of Muslims, when they seem to be active or passive supporters of the Muslim terrorists causing all of the problems?"
It's coming to America, too, most likely.
We are just tired of it.
We don't care any more.
The outrage you'll now be directing at us should have been directed at the terrorists and terrorist-inciters and terrorist-supporters among you five years ago.
But it wasn't.
So now here we are.
How ya like them apples?
More... from Dan Riehl:
Sane Muslims can have a far greater impact in combating Islamo-fascists than any other particular group. To date, they absolutely have not done their part. It's time to start giving them incentive, along with sending them the message that we will not ignore the source of much of the worlds terrorism.
Muslims will plead that the incovenience and suspicion for the war on terror should be distributed equally and without regard to religion.
But why should that be so? The entire problem of terrorism is not distributed equally, nor without regard to religion. It is almost exclusively the fault of young Muslim men, in turn sheltered by the greater Muslim community.
Why should the hassel and inconvenience of this be borne by all equally when the likely perpetrators are nearly all young Muslim men, or Muslims generally?
K says:
We don't know how this will play out. But people are becoming polarized about the Muslim situation. One Sunday I discussed it with a friend and he quite unexpectedly said:"If civil rights must go they will go. Rights can return. They have before. But the dead will stay dead."
He referred to severe restrictions during many conflicts.
Kind of how I feel, and not just about racial profiling. NSA man, tak a look at my Internet search records. I don't care if some bureaucrat knows I spend a lot of time trolling for porn. It's embarrassing, but I'd rather be a little embarrassed than a lot dead.
Dinocrat Calls It The Choice Between Hating Annoyance And Hating Evil: It's good enough for him:
We would prefer that people react strongly to the evil embodied by the Islamic fascist juvenile delinquents and their creepy imam mentors. But weÂ’ll settle for people reacting strongly to the annoyance and inconvenience they cause. In todayÂ’s upside-down world, you take what you can get.
Thanks to larwyn, who wonders if body-conscious overweight people, now subjected to either pat-downs or embarrassing virtual body scans, will be the next to tip to the Anti Terrorism Coalition.
It's a bit glib, but people's willingness to undergo inconvenience and embarrassment on behalf of sparing another person the same inconvenience and embarrassment is quite limited. Especially when that other is more capable of undoing the entire need for the inconvenience and embarrassment altogether, but chooses not to.

Orwellian. War is Peace.
As their idea of "peace" seems to be my idea of "war," let me agree with them.
I want peace.
I want so much fucking peace our enemies cry to their God for mercy from all the precision-guided peace blowing their bodies into red mist.
"Peace"
I'm now down with the lingo and on board with the program.
Henceforth, this will be a "peace" blog.
