Bill Clinton's Blogger Rainbow Coalition
— Ace

Why, look at the diversity among liberal NYC bloggers! All races and creeds are represented, from "pale" to "pinkish" to "pasty."

It's a Rainbow Coalition, all right, at least if the rainbow you're thinking of is a pale, ghostly emanation on the Ethereal Plane.

Jeeze Louise, there were two black bloggers at the NYC conservative blogger party last Saturday, HipHopRepublican and Johnny Triangles.

Yeah, Johnny Triangles is a brown person. My first thought upon hearing that was, "Gosh, great to have him on the team."

My second thought was, "Where is security?"

My third thought was a swirling nauseating panic that dropped me to the floor in a trembling conniption when I realized security would not be coming.

Via BloggerAle.

Hmmm... The only halfway decent chick in the bunch is the one right in front of Clinton's manpooter.

Dark hair, a little zoftig... hmmmm...

Meee-ouch! Blogger catfight!

New term I didn't know I needed to know: "bloggers of color."

Can Anyone Follow... arguments between feminists anymore?

I can't.

They're talking about hooters and stuff so I should be interested and yet I'm not.

What is the argument here? I don't get it.

She posed for a picture. She wanted to look nice. Maybe, yeah, she wanted to look sexy. Who doesn't?

I think Althouse may have some deeper point about double-standards (she keeps bringing up the left's attack on Katherine Harris' makeup, etc.) but I don't know about the superficial point.

And I don't know why the other feminist just doesn't say, "Yeah, of course I was posing. I wanted to look hot. So what?"

It's this odd argument where it seems both sides are guilty of some double-think, or else engaging in this weird cant that neither really believes.

1) She was posing

2) There's nothing wrong with that; women are judged on their looks just like men are. Hell, just like pigs and cattle are, for crying out loud. As are cars. As are computers. As is everything.

3) Now let's stop all this fussin' and fightin' and make out.

Speaking of judging computers... I got my new Dell at 6:30 and finished setting it up about a half hour ago. It looks pretty nice. Basic, but nice. Got that new computer smell I love so much.

I haven't really tested it out yet.

I wonder if it will handle 1) Age of Empires III or 2) Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

I figure 1) yes and 2) kind of, but not very well.

Posted Only Because It's Relevant...

As the comments all are about how these feminists defy the stereotype and try to look hot, I really don't get the argument about whether it's okay to try to look good for a picture.

Via Allah, of course. Sexual politics, chicks arguing about hotness, decolletage... it was only a matter of time, really.

Another Cat In The Fight: Fur-flyin' fun!

Just to keep track of the various hussies involved in all of this nonsense.

That's right, I said "hussy." Wearin' lipstick. Smiling.

Like a whore.

Cowbell Wrap-Up From Newsbusters
— Ace

Heading the news: Gas is down to $1.85 in parts of Missouri.

Around me, which is pretty surburban (and therefore there is not much of an additional cost for difficult city driving), it's $2.42. What gives?

Oil dropping near $62 per barrel and falling; inflation low; and consumer confidence rebounding.

If the price of gas continues falling, the Democrats are in trouble.

And it probably will. The world, and especially the US, is now sitting on an enormous stockpile of oil bought up during the nervous times. That overbuying jacked up the price during the past few months-- but now they're sitting on too much damn oil, and will have to begin selling it at slightly-distressed prices.

The Stupidest Game Ever
— Ace

You love parking in real life?

Then you'll love this.

I never get games that ask you to do stuff you can do in real life. Like The Sims. What the hell is the attraction there?

I like weird games like this.

My Solution To The Torture Debate Is Elegant In Its Simplicity
— AndrewR

Anybody up for continuing our great national debate on torture and military tribunals?

Me neither.

So here's the plan: Bush quietly puts out word to the intelligence community that they are to continue using whatever methods they've found to work. When our guys are done working them over, screw it: let them be tried wherever Congress wants (I'm nothing if not generous). The information they give us is the important thing.

Now, if someone ends up being convicted for using a method deemed excessively harsh, they receive a presidential pardon. It is issued immediately and with no questions asked. When Congress finds out and moves to impeach Bush, he resigns...and is promptly pardoned by President Cheney. It's a twofer!

Naturally there's no chance whatsoever of this happening, but that's where my mind's at right now. Because I swear to God, if I have to hear any more maudlin sob stories about John McCain's time in Vietnam, or how this country is losing it's soul to its anger, or how we're turning into the thing we're fighting, I'm just gonna put my head in a fuckin' oven.

Kindness and all that are fine when times are good, but you win wars by thinking like a Visigoth.

College Football Picks Week 3 [Johnny M. Coldcuts]
— Ace

sandwichforskippy.jpg

So, I'm 33-11 with my picks so far this season. And, since regular gamblers are, like guest bloggers, typically a motley collection of embalmed leeches looking for any potential winner to suck the life out of, I have received a lot of e-mails.

"What's the secret to your success, Johnny?" writes "Anonymous" from Huntingdon Beach, California. "Why haven't you called since we..you know..." writes Beth from Alabama. "How would you like to be part of a Ham sandwich?" writes some babe I never heard of before from something called "Townhall".

So, I thought today would be a good day to answer these burning questions. Actually, the questions aren't really what's burning. It's this damn rash I got from Feisty. But I'll answer these e-mails anyway.

Answers and picks after the jump. more...

CNN Agnostic On Merits of "Loose Change" Conspiracy Theory
— Ace

Skip down a bit to watch the Paula Zahn puffball interview and the insipid conclusion: "the film certainly has people thinking.”

The liberal media certainly has people doubting their sanity.

Is there any anti-Bush lunacy they won't give a nonjudgmental "airing"?

Think if we conservatives cobbled together a conspiracy theory -- like, say, Sandy Berger stealing originals of national security documents and then destroying them -- the media would give it any coverage?

Oh, wait. That wasn't a conspiracy theory, that was a criminal charge to which he admitted his guilt and copped a plea.

And yet the media seemed none too interested in that, and certainly deemed itself quite above giving an "airing" as to Berger's motives. Like, say, wanting to destroy documents having adminstration officials' notes in the margins. Notes which might be politically damaging.

That theory they found too unsubstantiated to explore.

This theory, on the other hand -- well, the film certainly has people thinking.

NYT Now Advising Reporters On How To Falsify Records In Order To Protect Classified Info Leakers
— Ace

One word for this is "cute."

Another term for it is "a conspiracy to obstruct justice."

To this end, as the New York Observer reports, the Times is now giving lessons to their reporters on how they can best "dispos[e] of story drafts and [cut] back on telephone and e-mail contact with sources--or us[e] disposable cell phones for important calls." In addition, New York Times reporter David Barstow has recommended other subterfuges such as "altering Times expense-sheet forms so that a reporter does not have to list the names of sources who have been taken out for lunch or dinner." Barstow adds that even company e-mail should conveniently disappear in a short time in order to hinder any investigation of who might be leaking secrets to the Times staff.

Pelosi "Smart, Tough" On Defending America
— Ace

...from the national security threat of global warming.

Part of national security, said the House's top Democrat, is protecting the environment.

"We are advancing tough and smart national security policies to keep the American people safe," said Mrs. Pelosi, adding that Democrats' national security agenda aims "to fight terrorism and defeat it, stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, to stop global warming and any other threats to the safety and security of the American people."

Kevin Madden, spokesman for House Majority Leader John A. Boehner, said the remark reflects a broader national security weakness by Democrats.

"The American people want a strong posture against the global scourge of terrorism and all Democrats can offer is Nancy Pelosi's babble putting that fight on par with global warming," he said.

As a spokesman for Hastert said, Democrats seem "confused" about who the enemy is.

Thanks to various commenters who mentioned this. I just found it while browsing NRO today.

Ace of Spades Reader Spotted Wanted Terrorist? (Updated: Limited Confirmation From FBI)
— Ace

TKS alerts me of an interesting comment posted here:

Ok, I have a dilemma.

I am pretty sure this guy came [to rent a house].

I was just checking my records and it had to have been [earlier] this year. I remember the home I showed him, a couple leased the home within days of me showing it to this guy.

He had a Mexican Consular ID, no valid TX info. He would not allow me to make a copy of the ID card. I wrote notes on the visitor card when he came in because he refused to fill it out.

I will be looking at my records from earlier this year to see if I can find the info. He measured the distance between the homes - had a "friend" go into the home and yell, to see if it could be heard from outside.

I remember this incident so well, due to the fact that it was one of the strangest things I have ever seen. He did not have a hispanic accent, and certainly did not appear hispanic. [Redacted.] I showed the photo of this guy to [someone else present] a few minutes ago and her reaction was "Holy Shit[]! That is the guy". The photo that took me so by surprise is the one with the goatee & mustache, which I saw on a different site. Looked just like that guy!

Will let y'all know if anything comes of this!

Name withheld (and I hope she used a pseudonym).

Later, after Purple Avenger provided the contact information for the Texas FBI,
she reported:

Thank you Avenger for the [] FBI number.

I could not find the info I was looking for at my office, but my assistant (I sent her a copy of the pic) said it was the same guy.

I called the FBI here [].

The officer I spoke to stated that it more than likely WAS him!

HOLY SMOKES!!!

Really... it may seem corny, but the more blogs this guy's picture is on, the more likely he will be seen. And captured.

[Information redacted here and in the orignal comments for safety reasons.]

Note: I'm currently trying to get confirmation on this from the FBI. The tipster could just be wrong, or may have misinterpreted what the FBI told her. I'll let you know when they call me back.

And usually they do. They're pretty good about that.

Update From The FBI: Partial confirmation on the story.

Yes, the FBI office in question did receive this tip. Yes, they are looking into it, although the woman I spoke with noted they take all terrorism-related tips fairly seriously.

As for the "more likely than not" statement as to this being a genuine sighting: The woman who fielded the call said she did not say anything to that effect, and doubted that any other agent who may have subsequently folllowed-up with the tipster would have said that either. Simply because they don't have enough information based on a tip to say anything of the sort, and because they just generally don't comment like that upon a sensitive matter.

As I wasn't a party to the phone call, I have no idea what might have been said, or what an agent might have said to the tipster to give her the impression he felt it was "more likely than not" that this was a genuine sighting.

Still, it does seem interesting, at least to me. The tipster in question says she has two other witnesses beside herself positively identifying the guy, and the details she provides (refusal to let his identification information be copied, a Mexican consular ID, no valid Texas ID, no Hispanic accent, strange concerns about whether or not noises made inside the house could be heard outside) seem to suggest shenanigans of some kind.

I'm awaiting a response from the tipster to ask her to describe her conversations with the FBI more fully.
