Football Pool
— Ace

Again, mostly for bragging rights, but I might send winners an Amazon gift certificate for like $10. Then again, that's such a pittance I might not bother. Still deciding.

The kickoff is this Thursday night at around 7:30 Eastern, so if you want to join, you'd better get on it.

Femtroopers!

I feel a strange disturbance... in my pants.

The article promises that if you Google "femtroopers," you'll see a lot more pics of breast-plated bare-bellied Stormtroopers of Hotness, but I keep seeing the same ones over and over.

The pics all seem to come from here, which does have more of the same belly-tatoo chick, plus a chick who looks pretty hot dressed as Jabba Slave Leia. Then again, who doesn't? Even Carrie Fischer looked good dressed like that, and as Ray Midge has pointed out, she's not actually hot.

And since Michael keeps spamming the site with lame videos, how about a cool one? Rob Zombie, Slash, Tommy Lee, Ace Frehley, Goatee Dude from Anthrax, and replacement guitar guy from GNR unite to do KISS' God of Thunder.

Thanks to Jay and Matt, respectively.

Germaine Greer gets a tongue lashing. [Jack M.]
— Ace

And not the good kind either.

The speed at which Lefties turn on fellow Lefties always amuses me. Is there anything faster than a leftist politician distancing himself from their fellow leftists when the mask slips and their true agendas surface?

I think not. Einstein's relativity equations may have to be adjusted to account for this proposition.

In any event, it has happened again. As Ace documented earlier, feminist icon Germaine Greer had a few choice things to say about the late Steve Irwin.

As you can imagine, now that her words are being heard, the public uproar over her remarks is being felt. And Australian leftist politicians, who seldom need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, are abandoning her faster than a dingo can eat your baby.

Don't believe me? Check out these remarks from the Labor parties foreign affairs spokesman, Kevin Rudd.

"I think Germaine Greer should just stick a sock in it," Mr. Rudd said in Canberra today.

"You have got a grieving mother, you have got a couple of grieving young kids and a grieving nation and what to [sic] you get from Germaine Greer? You get a bucket load of politically correct pap – it's just nonsense.

"Steve Irwin was a nature conservationist, an animal conservationist and made a huge contribution to the preservation of wildlife worldwide.

"And what do we get from Germaine Greer? - some gratuitous, politically correct claptrap. She should put a sock in it," he said.

"Gratuitous, politically correct claptrap". Why that pretty much sums up Miss (I bet she hates being called that) Greer's life work, don't ya think?

Maybe it's just me.

Whiter Shade of Pale -- Michael
— Ace

Imagine you are Ace. You actually blog for a living. It's not like a hobby or something.

You are constantly under pressure to put up fresh content on your site to maintain traffic. But, you need an evening off, because you actually want to take your girlfriend out to dinner or something. So, you post like a maniac all day, hoping that this will keep people happy while you spend an evening with your girlfriend.

Plus, you're thinking that maybe those guest bloggers will do something. You still haven't done the obligatory "Thank You Guest Bloggers" post, and they still have a valid UserID and password. So, maybe they will help out while you are out with your significant other.

If you're Ace in this situation, you only have one problem. There is a guest blogger who keeps throwing up lame music videos.

The Klan Rallies at Gettysburg -- Michael
— Ace

You have to have a certain grudging admiration for guys who can look like such fucktardinous morons without dying of embarrassment.

Klan at Gettysburg.jpg

Is the crotch-fondling some sort of Klan symbol? Maybe he's just covering up because, well, he's just not that big compared to the people he hates.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - About 30 Ku Klux Klan members proclaimed hatred for blacks, Jews, gays and Latinos as they stood behind barricades at the Civil War battlefield where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address.

Yeah, big deal. A bunch of dorks desecrate an American shrine with their message of racial hate. Yawn.

Gordon Young of the World Knights of the Ku Klux Klan also called Saturday for the U.S. to pull its troops out of Iraq and use them to patrol the Mexican border to stop illegal immigration.

Wait a frickin' minute. Are you telling me these jerks want to interfere with my God-given right to cheap yard work?

They must be stopped.

Klan holds rally at Gettysburg - Yahoo! News

[This is a slightly revised copy of a post I already did at Innocent Bystanders. But what the heck, Ace has obviously taken the evening off, and this blog could use some fresh content. There's only about 25 people that read Innocent Bystanders anyway. But they comment a lot, so you can check the IB post for some hilarious "caption contest" comments in the thread to get you started here.]

ALERT: Stevens Replaces Hold
— Ace

A source who would know says:

GOP leadership staff just [revealed] that Sen. Stevens has replaced his hold on S.2590.

Did he think we'd forget after two days? Does he imagine we're as retarded as he is?

I wonder if this means that other hold, the one from the Democrat, is just Byrd again.

I'm thinking this may have less to do with future pork than with exposing what will quite likely look like outright corruption in the past.

UPDATE (JACK M.): Ace has made Ted Stevens angry. You wouldn't like Ted Stevens when he's angry.....

Eight Years For Bali Bombing Accomplice
— Ace

But remember, it's just a few bad apples. A few bad apples that seem to control the entire prosecutorial, judicial, and governmental apparati of Indonesia.

There is a mitigating factor. The asshole in question was not a central part of the bombers' clacque. However, he was a member of the terrorist group in question and... well, you'll see.

AN Indonesian computer teacher has been sentenced to just eight years' jail for his involvement in last year's Bali bomb attacks, despite being found guilty of posting a triumphant declaration of responsibility for the event on his website half an hour before the atrocity.

Judges declared that Abdul Aziz's relative youth - he turns 31 next week - and repentant attitude called for a lenient sentence, although prosecutors had demanded at least 10 years.

Prosecutor Olopan Nainggolan said afterwards he was "satisfied" with the decision but conceded he would consult with his superiors on an appeal.

Chief Judge I Nyoman Gede Wirya found that Aziz had been a member of terrorist organisation Jemaah Islamiah since 1995 and that he had posted an anti-Western rant by senior JI figure Noordin Mohammad Top on the www.anshar.net website shortly before the Bali attacks on October 1 last year.

That website, which Top had ordered Aziz to construct, also featured instructions on how to hunt down and kill Westerners in major metropolitan areas such as Jakarta.

Aziz's lawyer, Zulfikar Ramli, said yesterday he would consider an appeal based on his client having been found guilty of the wrong crime.

Mr Ramli said Aziz should only have been found guilty of not revealing the bombers' plans, rather than being tried as one of the central group of plotters in the attacks.

"Relative youth." He was 28 or so.

"Youths."

If you're part of a conspiracy, you're liable for the acts committed by your fellow conspirators in furtherance of a conspiracy.

But I guess things work differently when the conspirators number in the millions.

High-Protein Diet May Suppress Appetite
— Ace

Science.

Eating a high-protein diet can boost the release of a hunger-suppressing hormone, according to new study on mice. The research suggests that a diet rich in protein may be a good way to lose weight and keep it off.

Mice fed a protein-heavy diet produced higher levels of an appetite-regulating protein called peptide YY (PYY), which has been linked to reduced appetite in human studies. What's more, the high-protein mice put on less fat than mice on a low-protein regime.

...

The discovery may also shed light on how the notorious Atkins diet, which ditches carbohydrates in favour of protein and saturated fats, might work. Studies have shown that people on this diet can loose weight, though it is unclear why. Batterham thinks she may have the answer: "People on the Atkins diet don't feel as hungry — that's how it works."

But, she cautions, that doesn't mean the Atkins diet is a good idea: "No medical person is going to tell you to have all that saturated fat in your diet and no carbohydrates." In its early stages, the regime causes a condition called ketosis, in which the liver, deprived of glycogen from carbohydrates, switches to its starvation mode and begins to metabolize fatty compounds. "The problem is that it makes you feel terrible," Batterham says.

I don't think it makes you feel terrible. As a matter of fact, I'm now blaming my extreme lethargy last week on going off the Atkins diet during moving week. (Kind of hard to keep carb-kosher through all that.) I began eating pizza (with the crust) and could not stop eating. As opposed to previous weeks, which were very low-carb, in which I wouldn't eat until 10pm on some days.

With carbs, I was sleepy and hungry. Without them, I'm not sleepy and not particularly hungry.

The diet doesn't work for everyone, but it does work for me.

Course, now that the craze is well over, it's almost impossible to get the foods I used to rely on, low-carb peanut butter, low-carb ice-cream, etc.

Stores are now stocking South Beach Diet cereal. Which I'd love to have -- I miss the dickens out of cereal -- but alas South Beach is higher-carb than Atkins.

If I'm going to have 20 carbs in one sitting, I won't be blowing it on corn flakes.

Stevens, Byrd Supposedly Lift Holds; But There's Another Secret Hold -- By A Democrat
— Ace

At least the GOP says the hold does not come from its side:

Another Democratic senator appears to have placed a “secret hold” on legislation that would pry open the murky world of federal contracting to public scrutiny.

ThatÂ’s the word that Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn received Tuesday from the Republican cloakroom, the place that tracks who is blocking legislation using the parliamentary maneuver.

The news came soon after Coburn learned that Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, had finally lifted his hold on the measure that Coburn and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., introduced in April. The measure would create a searchable database of some $2.5 trillion in federal contracts, grants, loans, insurance and federal assistance each year.

Stevens and Sen. Robert Byrd, D-West. Va., both indisputable masters at bringing home the bacon, placed the holds during the August recess. Both lifted them after prominent bloggers began calling senate offices to “smoke out” the senator responsible for holding up the open government bill.

If a Democrat does have a hold then they may have misled the blogger community which ruled out every Democrat except for Byrd last week.

A Democrat lying? Never.

Another Shock: Crude Anti-Semitism Fills MoveOn.org's Chatboards
— Ace

In reference to Joe Lieberman, of course.

A string of anti-Semitic rants about Sen. Joe Lieberman have popped up on the liberal MoveOn.org's open forum Web site, drawing criticism from the Anti-Defamation League.

It's the latest flap in the contentious race between Lieberman, who is running as an independent to keep his seat in Connecticut, and upstart Ned Lamont, the Democratic nominee.

...

[ADL head Abe] Foxman cited examples from the site's Action Forum, including "media owning Jewish pigs," "Zionazis," a reference to the senator as "Jew Lieberman" and the question, "Why are the Jews so Jew-y?"

Do they fear the... Jewmentum?
