12/12 – Katya, the designated driver sends an update that she was in the ER with shortness of breath last weekend, and has found she has a blood clot in her lung now. The blood thinner she was on for the clot in her leg wasn’t doing the job, so she is giving herself injections twice a day of enoxaparin sodium. She feels good, mostly. She sends her thanks for prayers and support through her chemo treatments.
2/16 Update – Katya sent word that her surgery went great, but she’s had some issues since then. (The blood thinner medication for blood clots caused low blood pressure. Then she was losing blood, which caused dizziness and confusion. She got 4 units of blood, so that seems to be getting better. Her pneumonia and chemo have not helped with all of this, but it is getting better.) The surgeon thinks they got 99% of the cancer during surgery. And she is so happy that the surgery is over!
3/2 Update – Katya says she is healing well now, and things are back on track with her treatment.
3/23 Update – Katya continues to heal well from the mastectomy. She still is dealing with pneumonia, but has oxygen at home, which is helping, and she will see a pulmonologist on 3/31. She will start 6 weeks of radiation therapy on Thursday (3/25).
3/29 Update – Katya’s incisions have separated in several spots, so she cannot proceed with radiation until they are healed. Her new date to begin is April 8.
2/19 – Pooky’s Girl requests prayers for Pooky, as he is going to have surgery to correct his deviated septum on 3/9. She is praying that the anesthesia works (he’s had problems with that in the past) and that it helps him breathe better and in turn helps his mental state.
3/16 Update – Pooky’s surgery went very well! He’s now adjusting to being able to really breathe for the first time in years. Pooky and Pooky’s Girl are very thankful for the many prayers sent on their behalf.
2/26 - BeckoningChasm requested prayers for L,Elle, a former member of the Horde, who is going to have surgery and is a bit frightened by the prospect. Any prayers would be most appreciated.
2/26 – Mindful Webworker requested prayers for complete healing for his wife, MJ, who has for decades lived with a disfiguring and debilitating health problem. It has lessened and worsened by never gone away. Suddenly, the night before last, it has become very much worse than it has ever been.
3/3 – Fenelon Spoke also passed along a prayer request for Farmer mentioned the other night that his wife Jules's mother was near death in hospice so they need strength and comfort and a peaceful passing of his MIL who has been in hospice for about five months.
3/10 – Ladyl requests prayers for her friend Teresa, who is getting a bone marrow transplant for multiple myeloma on 3/11.
3/16 – Pollywog the ‘Ette requests prayers for "Thing From Snowy Mountainâ€. He sends thanks for the prayers for his mother’s recovery from Covid, and for him as he struggled against the people who wanted her to be left to die. Now he needs wisdom, strength, favor as he negotiates the bureaucracy that almost killed his Mom, and for financial provision to care for her.
3/24 – Cranford Pundit requests prayers for his long-time coworker and friend Pete, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer that spread to his liver. His cancer inoperable, but they are starting aggressive chemo the week of 3/29. While he will not be cured, please pray for the quality of his life, wisdom for him and for his wife, and for their two elementary-school-age children.
3/31 – Roxxee requests prayers for her daughter. She was on our prayer list at Christmastime, as she was in a deep psychosis then, but she did get treatment and was improving. Now she is backsliding again and has quit her job (which will cause her to lose her insurance). She will not listen to her doctors or Roxxee, and as she is an adult, there is nothing they can do. Roxxee requests prayers for her daughter to realize that her life is spinning out of control and she needs help, and for strength and peace for herself as she tries to cope.
4/5 – Captain Whitebread asks for prayers of healing for his sister, who has been diagnosed with diastolic heart failure, and prayers for strength for her and those who depend on her: her Mom (who is retired), her adult son (who is autistic and cannot work), her grand-niece who she is raising.
For Healing:
2/24 – Lyndi Barker could use some prayers. She has Stage 4 cancer that has spread everywhere.
2/24 – Prayers are requested for Suzy. She is fighting liver cancer, and now just barely survived a bout of septic shock. Prayers for her and her husband are appreciated.
3/3 – Fenelon Spoke requested prayers on Backwards Boy’s behalf. Backwards Gal is very ill and he doesn't think she'll live through the year. So prayers for a miracle of healing and that God surrounds them with grace and strength in whatever ways are needed.
3/3 – Fenelon Spoke requested prayers for .....(ellipsis), who has been sick since the winter of 2020 and needs healing).
4/3 – My life is insanity asks for prayers for peace of mind and healing for her sister, who just learned that her breast cancer from 6 years ago has spread to her spine. She has a small tumor at the base of her neck and a fracture in her lower back. She is waiting on a treatment plan and is unsure at this time what that will bring.
If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after five weeks or so unless we receive an update.

I am not going to hunt down and read the article, but my bet is that it's a call for redistribution of fame and the need for a mechanism to guarantee access to the public spotlight for some amount of time. Kind of like a state guarantee of Worhol's "15 minutes of fame."

Has anyone else NOT been getting the usual robocalls and spamcalls for, say, the last month? I haven't noticed any messages on my home phone answering machine in weeks, nor have I been getting the usual calls around dinnertime.

Larry Niven suggested something like that way back in the '60s and '70s: the organ banks. If you were convicted of a major death penalty crime, you got broken up for parts, so that sick citizens could get transplants. The trouble was, everybody wanted to live forever, so LN's future society continually voted smaller and smaller crimes (like running 6 red lights in 2 years) to be capital crimes. . . .

I spend about twenty minutes every week collecting the call log from all the family's cell phones and the land line and updating NoMoRobo, listing them all as Spam and Telemarketers and Robodialers.
My inbound calls are a lot lighter, now that you mention it.
I'm on the cusp of running my own VOIP and only allowing a whitelist of calls to pass the firewall. Redirecting the rest of them with call forwarding to Pee-lousy's congressional office.

It isn't usually conscious, but it does happen.

If you are willing to commit a capital crime, then it raises the stakes. Lesser crimes don't matter anymore. If you're looking to commit murder, it doesn't matter if you steal a gun, perform a carjacking and take hostages in the process. You can only be killed once. If you commit to a capital crime, any subordinate or related crimes are free. Making all crimes capital removes any rational benefit to being choosy with criminality. If you're going to commit any crime, you might as well commit a big one because the costs are the same across the board. It is an extreme form of perverse incentive.

One thing I have to say, because I went through this with my late father in the hospital, and I had to tell the nurses who were panicking about not being able to control his skyrocketing fever (at the time) - Tylenol is absolutely WORTHLESS when it comes to fevers! It can help a little bit with minor problems, but plain old Aspirin will always be 10 x more effective than Tylenol. Advil (ibuprofen) is a bit better, but still it's main use is for inflammation. We could have a long discussion on why Pharma pushes Tylenol and always tries to make people frightened of Aspirin (probably the safest drug ever discovered) but I'll just say, that night my father was in the ER with a fever approaching 103 and no one knowing what they could do, it dropped back to 99 within an hour of me ranting and forcing the night staff to call up his doctor and go back to aspirin instead of the tylenol crap. They weren't going to do it unless someone pitched a fit.

Between the insanity of the shutdown, the fearmongering causing it, the blatantly fake election, the tyrannical freedom-crushing elites and establishment stomping on everyone they find insufficiently woke, the deliberate destruction of stability and normality, and the promotion of crazy, people feel like they've fallen down the rabbit hole.
Some deal with that very poorly. Some get depressed, some get angry, some get stressed and have health problems... and some go nuts. This is our future, being stomped on the face harder and harder every month by the left until people cannot take it any more.
Most of them probably don't even know why they are so upset and confused and stressed. They all feel it, though. Even the ones that think they've won.

The company my SIL works for is trying to grow a pancreas in the lab. Also, a kidney. They successfully had a pig remain alive for a week or two with their last version. Progress.
But, even if they succeed, it'll take ten years to get Federal approval. So my quasi-ignorant guess would say your doctor's prediction is too optimistic.

In SD, Noem believed that the wording of the legislation would cause NCAA retaliation against collegiate women's athletics in the state, retaliation that would harm them more than what the legislation was trying to prevent. That is known as an unintended consequence, where you wind up creating a greater hurt on those you intend to help. Noem reworded the legislation, as state law allows the governor to do, but the legislature dug in it's heels. Noem then issued an executive order that achieved the same affect, but worded in such a manner that it tied the hands of the NCAA. This should have been viewed as a wise and judicious thing to happen. Unfortunately, it was not. We have been infested with a "my way or the highway" group of knee jerkers, who view anything not in lockstep with their thinking, to be nothing short of high treason. Granted, this attitude was caused by a number of squish RINOs who repeatedly derailed good legislation in order to burnish their "maverick" reputation in the media. But that does not excuse the attacks on governors who are legitimately trying to craft sound and fair law. That's what the Democrats are for, after all.
So, was Hutchinson's veto reasonable? Well, anytime legislation prohibits something, there is usually a "grandfather" clause that allows those caught having invested in the proscribed activity, to continue doing so, lest they be damaged for doing something in good faith that they believed was legal. That what Hutchinson objected to, that there was no provision to "grandfather" those who had begun the process when prohibition takes affect. There is no doubt that the transformation process is flawed and harmful to a minor, but there also is no doubt that being trapped midway in the process is even more harmful. Hutchinson was being both sensible and compassionate, and for the knee jerkers to attack him for failing to march in lockstep, is neither.

Has anyone else NOT been getting the usual robocalls and spamcalls for, say, the last month? I haven't noticed any messages on my home phone answering machine in weeks, nor have I been getting the usual calls around dinnertime.
I ain't complaining, but it's sure odd...

The real problem with .gifs and images is the one more or less identified by Buzzion: posters with poor judgment and trolls can use it to post heinous not-safe-for-work stuff to the site.Mostly this. The site does no validation or anything on the linked content. It embeds it as an inline image to be loaded by the browser. Since I'm automatically starting the page with the comment box active with a cursor, I can push an arrow button on the keyboard and get the browser to recognize that there's more to the page and allow the scrolling to happen, but it doesn't feel like normal page behavior.
Took a bit of experimentation to figure out a workaround.

I know for a fact that several of the long term commenters here are in financial situations where they *can't* just "get a new one". They are struggling to meet basic needs and new anything is simply out of the question.
I understand what you are saying. I do. I just don't think you can run the Internet like its 1995 because of some people's finances. As much sympathy as I have for them personally, "nobody can have anything that not everyone can afford" is not a workable principle.

This is a little out of my area of expertise, but my understanding is that puberty blockers given during the earlier stages of puberty, if continued for many months or a few years, cannot be reversed. That is to say, you can't turn puberty back on. I presume this is related to the ongoing maturation process within the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, where the regulation of pubertal hormones (and thus normal puberty) resides.

I know it was fking Wal-Mart that sold my info. I placed my first-ever home delivery order from Wal-Mart early last November and the daily annoyance robo-calls started about 5 days later. I hadn't given my number to anyone knew around that time. Turns out there's a box you have to UNclick (it's pre-clicked, but of course) to keep Wal-Mart from selling your number.
