— DrewM. The Des Moines Register has two new polls out and they show new leaders in both parties.
Huck is leading the Republican field 29-24% (which is right around the margin of error of 4.4%). That means Huckabee is up 17% from the last poll in October, while Mitt is down 5% in that time.
On the Democratic side, Obama leads Hillary! 28%-25%. Obama is up 6 points and Hillary is down 4% from the previous poll.
As important is the fact that a lot of voters are still pretty soft in their support.
Close to half of the Democrats and 61 percent of the Republicans say they still could be persuaded to change their minds. Campaign strategists figure that some holiday conversations with family and friends will turn to politics and that those discussions may well influence decisions.
The caucuses are just over a month away (January 3rd) but times really shorter than that. How much campaigning is going to get done from about the 21st through the 1st? It seems the voters will be gathering and talking amongst themselves but will the campaigns be able to really sway them at the last minute? What would you think of a candidate that had call banks calling you the weekend before Christmas?

UPDATE: Ok, I'm a moron. As a couple of folks pointed out, she's getting booed for not committing to address immingration reform in the first 100 days of her administration.
On the upside, she's gotta be freezing to death right now.

— DrewM. ItÂ’s a long, long story (14 pages) but Bob Owens (who has done yeomanÂ’s work on this story) says theyÂ’ve thrown in the towel.
Look for more updates here and at CY as everyone reads it.
UPDATE: I am just now going through the story and this just jumped out, his wife was one of the fact checkers on his stories!
His wife, Reeve, was assigned a large role in checking his third piece. While we believe she acted with good faith and integrity--not just in this instance, but throughout this whole ordeal--there was a clear conflict of interest. At the time, our logic--in hindsight, obviously flawed-
You think?
I don't want to go to much into this stuff because Ace was instrumental in getting some of this stuff out (especially the wife angle) but I'll post a few of the more extreme elements as I run across them for those who can't stand reading it all and leave the heavy thinking to Ace when he unpacks.
Update #2-
Okay, last update because there's just going to be too much. Below the fold, check out the in depth fact checking and what appears plausible to these people regarding the dog incidents and the famous disfigured woman.

It troubles me... because she chose the name "startrekchess".
I can't handle two dimensional chess. Or a caulk gun. This three dimensional thing just made me feel stupider.

— DrewM. Strange case in Wisconsin of a blog commenter who was arrested for praising the Columbine shooter and allegedly threatening local teachers.
“…Kids like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold members of the Young Republicans club at Columbine. They knew how to deal with the overpaid teacher union thugs. One shot at a time! Too bad the liberals rip them; they were heroes and should be remembered that way.â€
Boots and Sabers, the blog where the comment was left, has the full comment and a run down on the whole story from the bloggers perspective.
I am not a lawyer but it doesn’t seem like the comment reaches the level of actually threatening someone but apparently the cops feel differently.
The interesting twist is, the arrested commenter is a teacher and a former president of the local teacher’s union. It looks like being a sockpuppetting Moby may cost this guy big time.
Be careful what you write…someone is watching.

Time Magazine did a Q&A with Stephen King. The article starts off with King making the not-at-all-obvious point that the news media is shallow and sensationalistic (really?)
Then it gets weird: more...
