Quagmire: Democrats Trapped In Iraq Debate
— Ace

A digest of the Democrats grudgingly admitting the surge is a success.

GOP congressional aide tells the Political Bulletin, "We think it is interesting to hear Democrats reluctantly admitting that the surge has been a tactical success. It's fascinating considering the ride they've been on since January and that all Democrats in Congress voted to condemn the surge in one form or fashion." Republicans are speculating that with the recent drop in blockbuster attacks and American troop deaths in Iraq, the Democrats are a bit concerned that pushing for an immediate withdrawal might appear defeatist. Sen. Hillary Clinton was the latest to say that the new tactics are working, though she still wants troops returned home. The GOP sees some of the comments about the troop surge as a way for Democrats to adjust to the changing character of the war in advance of the Petraeus report. But Republicans are not going to let voters forget about prior Democratic attacks on the war, though they are promoting the new Democratic comments on the surge in talking points sent to supporters, updated as recently as yesterday with pro-surge comments from Michigan Democrat Sen. Carl Levin.

Global Warming….Scandi Plot?
— DrewM.

There was no way something as evil as Global Warming could exist without those dirty ice backs being in on it:

The poor old Scandinavian moose is now being blamed for climate change, with researchers in Norway claiming that a grown moose can produce 2,100 kilos of methane a year -- equivalent to the CO2 output resulting from a 13,000 kilometer car journey.

Are we now officially at the point where it’s easier to list the things that don’t contribute to Global Warming than it is to list those that are? You know, things like private jets and gigantic houses...the necessities according those who care oh so much about the Earth.

Online bookie taken to cleaners by Al Gore III arrest
— Purple Avenger

Bookmaker Paddy Power, which offered 14 to 1 odds that Al Gore would be the next high profile American to be arrested, paid out today.

Some of the 50 or so people who placed their bets on Al Gore were quick to claim the more than €10,000 payout in this 'bizarre coincidence', according to a Paddy Power statement...
How this major fallout slipped through most of the US media is curious. That such bets were being taken at all seems newsworthy in its own right. more...

Law Lesson: Declarations of War, Last Post on this Topic
— Gabriel Malor

This will be my last post on the topic of war declarations. I hope. There were just two things left undiscussed.

First, I want to discuss the legal ramifications if Ron Paul, Alberto Gonzales, and various commenters are right about no constitutional declaration of war existing without a formal declaration.

Second, I will look back at 18th century writers to see what they thought about declarations of war. more...

Someone's Peddling Cancer Rumors About Thompson On Blogs
— Ace

It seems, at first look, to be a single guy.

So it doesn't mean much, necessarily. Though I'd love to speculate about which candidate's True Believer supporters would want to knock down Thompson in order to help, say, one of the Only Men Who Can Save America grab hold of those currently supporting Thompson.

The four bloggers upon whose blogs these comments appear should check the IPs on the off, off, off chance the IP can be linked to a specific campaign.

I rather doubt the guy would be so stupid, or even actually have a job with a campaign, but checking IPs has yielded all sorts of interesting stuff in the past. One never knows.

Thanks to Marty.
