Its McGurk, the guy with a serious case of the Man Crush on Ace and the dude that photoshopped that pic of St. Andy that he uses all the time. Or at least every so often. Sometimes, when I see Ace post about Andy and he doesn't use my 'shop, I cry a little. Its like he isn't thinking about my feelings and my needs... *snif*

K, enough of my whining. So, the Left took a series of swift kicks to the nuts this week. What with TNR's Beau getting a blanket party, the Hockey Stick of Death, and Kos' butt buddy taking a full on load in the face from the SEC... Its been great. Almost makes me forget about the stock market vomiting.

The utah miners are likely dead. It SUCKS but that is likely the truth, I still have hope, and I'm not much a one for hope, and many of you are fans of prayers, and I'm not a supporter of that either, but it is a very good and very kind effort. "Dr. Paul's" supporters are really spinning his fifth-place victory in that thread.

God I hate them.

So... Tommy Thompson, I believe, said he would drop out if he didn't win or place. He didn't show either. Hopefully that's one down.

Tancredo posted a somewhat strong fourth, at least strong for a niche candidate in a race in which three of the bigger candidates (Giuliani, McCain, and Fred Thompson) weren't even competing. So I guess that means his issue lives on, as if there was any doubt of that anyway.

Why Duncan Hunter cannot gain any traction, while an idiot like Brownback can come in third, is beyond me.

Over At Hot Air... Allah notes that Brownback spent a lot of his cash to place second, but failed, losing to Huckabee, who spent less, and now will have more to spend.

If that means Brownback exits soon, great. But I doubt it.

Ucchhh... Ron Paul's delusional zombots go bananas over him at Digg, insisting that he's now a first-tier candidate.

I guess that makes Huckabee, Brownback, and Tancredo even more first-tierier. Nope, the revolution belongs only to "Doctor Paul."

This Iowa straw poll can be summed up in this phrase:

"Ron Paul Makes the Cut."

He is literally in the top tier of republican candidates in the first major test of legitimacy. Make no mistake, this is a seminal moment in the Ron Paul campaign and is only a sign of amazing things to come.

Seminal moments are often wiped away with tissues and then tossed into the toilet.

One guy says something derogatory about Paul, then says "And now watch as my post gets buried by the internet army," and five minutes later, his comment is gone.

This commenter was a bit worried for the RP zombots:

Without making a judgement on who I think will be the next President, what will you guys do if it isn't Ron Paul? I'm worried you might kill yourselves or something

Update: When the results come in, this guy will be one of the first to have them.

In news that surprises no one, yesterday Ron Paul's supporters petitioned a judge to have all polling done by paper ballot, a change that would have cost $184,000. They lost.

It's not that I object to the paper ballot thing. It's that everyone's just sick to death of Ron Paul's piranhaweasel supporters.

There was a low number of participants in this year's straw poll (only 14,000). From this, we can deduce that more people voted in other years (more than 14,000). We can further extrapolate that this low turnout probably benefits whichever guy won, although if he won by only a little, perhaps the low turnout helped someone else. We are comfortable making whatever guesses we want about a higher turnout, as it didn't happen, so who the hell can say boo about it?

Mining the incoming data still further for hints and omens, can also conclude that given the low number of participants, none of this actually matters, but it matters less than it usually doesn't matter.

...

I think the polling closes at 7:00. Not sure how long it will take to determine the winner is Mitt Romney. Or how well the Only Man Who Ignites The Imaginations Of Modern-Dress Cosplay Idiots will do.

There is only one thing we know for certain: None of this matters at all.

This is an older post of mine, but I think an interesting topic for debate.

There seems to almost be a consensus among liberals and conservatives, that we need to end our dependence on foreign oil. I don't know that we're "dependent" on foreign oil. We have plans for alternate energy, if we need it. In the meantime, we're draining the only resource of potential enemies, unless you count sand as a resource. While they pilfer the trillions of dollars made from oil on stuff like this:
"The Sultan's palace,a monstrosity that boasts 1,788 rooms and is larger than the Vatican-in a tiny country with just 300,000 inhabitants. When the Sultan's daughter turned 18 he bought her an Airbus. For himself he prefers his own jumbo jet, originally designed to carry over 400 people."

We power our economy and military on their only precious resource.

Seems like a good idea to me.

When their oil dries up, and it will, they will be left with......a whole lotta sand. And a lot of pissed off citizens. And no real economy.

We are not stonewalling anyone. There are official statements that are out there are on the record from several of us and nothing has changed.

We are not preventing him from speaking to TNR or anyone. He has full access to the Morale Welfare and Recreation phones that all the other members of the unit are free to use. It is my understanding that he has been informed of the requests to speak to various members of the media, both traditional and non-traditional and has declined. That is his right.

We will not nor can we force a Soldier to talk to the media or his family or anyone really for that matter in these types of issues.

In other words: Hey, TNR? If he's "your writer," as you say (rather than "our soldier," which his oath says), you persuade him to talk. Got nothin' to do with us.

This leaves TNR twisting in the wind, which is either an unfair outcome or poetic justice. With Beauchamp apparently unwilling to repeat his claims or say precisely what he told the army, and the army feeling the law prevents them from releasing his statements, TNR can't quite disavow Beauchamp's stories but also can't quite re-affirm them.

Perhaps that's the best outcome it could hope for, and perhaps Beauchamp is actually doing them a favor by not admitting to them he lied. They can thus claim the whole matter is "unresolved," as Dan Rather claims to this day regarding Rathergate.

Then again, he's on HDNet now, so how well did that work out for him?
