— Dave in Texas This morning rdbrewer asked nobody in particular on twitter:
I wonder what happened to WD 1-39.
— rdbrewer (@rdbrewer4) June 1, 2013
Really? Well I'm glad you asked.
.jpg)
Water Displacement formula, 40th attempt.
It took them 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula worked out. But they must have been really good, because the original secret formula for WD-40®—which stands for Water Displacement perfected on the 40th try—is still in use today.Convair, an aerospace contractor, first used WD-40 to protect the outer skin of the Atlas Missile from rust and corrosion. The product actually worked so well that several employees snuck some WD-40 cans out of the plant to use at home.
DrewM seemed surprised to learn this too, even though I thought this was well known. He told me I should never assume everyone posesses valuable redneck knowledge. So I'm sharing.

the company nearly doubled in size, growing to seven people, who sold
an average of 45 cases per day from the trunk of their cars to hardware
and sporting goods stores in the San Diego area.
In 1961 the first full truckload order for WD-40
was filled when employees came in on a Saturday to produce additional
concentrate to meet the disaster needs of the victims of Hurricane Carla
along the U.S. Gulf coast. WD-40 was used to recondition flood and rain damaged vehicles and equipment.

WD 40 is NOT a lubricant! It is for displacing water
Posted by: bgarrett

I've given up on telling people that. I does have a lot of solvent in it, and tends to loosen up existing oxidized lubricant..., but that's it. Every time someone starts spraying it onto something that needs lubricant, I just keep my mouth shut. It's like pointing out obvious flaws in Obama to a Lib..., it just doesn't work.

WD 40 sucks as a lubricant. It's unequalled as a water dispersant though. Used to use it to dry up distributor caps and firearms. For that, it is just fine.
Pro tip--for those hunting trips where things get crappy (waterfowl in particular) a DRY weapon sprayed with silicon provides excellent lubrication. Silicon is inert, so it won't pickup dirt. Also does well in the cold.
Posted by: irongrampa at June 01, 2013 11:42 AM (SAMxH)
WD-40 is an excellent bug killer, IF, and that's a big IF, you don't care for what you are spraying next to. It will smell of course. Don't use on drywall or something that will absorb it.. Will flat out kill spiders and shit.
I also want to add a shout out to Ballistol. This shit is EXCELLENT to clean and lube weapons. Is also is excellent to wipe on wood. heh.

WD-40 removes paint, gum, rubber cement, grease, grime and more
WD-40 loosens and penetrates rusted or stuck bolts and plumbing joints" Posted by: BCochran1981 - Credible Hulk
-------
Rather broad claims..., "removes paint"? I'll be more careful. At any rate, the MSDS does say "15%" mineral oil..., so one has to concede that there is *some* lubricant in it, but to call it a lubricant, would be the same as calling it "paint remover".

Johnson & Johnson produced a sterile version of the product (intended for medical markets) and a non-sterile version (marketed as general-use personal lubricant) until 2004, when it discontinued the sterile line"

Blaster 16-PB Penetrating Catalyst and darned if it didn't work. I tried it on some pliers that had rusted shut and it worked there as well (I had used Liquid Wrench, WD-40, and everything else to break those pliers free to no avail). PB Blaster rocks. Next best thing to a hot wrench. Also if you douse the fasteners at reassembly it retards rust formation greatly.
We had several guys at work who were from down South and never had to contend with rust like us in the Northeast. To a person, they hated working on vehicles up here.

It seems that the navigation system was water cooled. On the ground they would circulate water through the system but they kept having a "vapor lock" problem that would stall the flow. One of the contractors got this bright idea to let the water coming out pour into a coffee can so to relieve the pressure problem.

At my last day job, I was in charge of changing all the carbide inserts in the milling and lathe tools. It was practically impossible to get the guys to do that properly.
The coolant dries on the screws that hold the inserts and makes them difficult to remove (Torx drives will strip themselves it you look at them the wrong way). Proper practice is to clean everything with a Q-Tip before reassembling with that copper lube.

At a fundraiser last night in Chicago, President Barack Obama signaled that heÂ’s interested in his legacy as a president and insisted that heÂ’s willing to work with anyone.
“My only interest is making sure that when I look back 20 years from now, I say I accomplished everything that I could while I had this incredible privilege to advance the interests of the broadest number of Americans and to make sure that this country was stronger and more prosperous than it was when I came into office. That’s my only interest,” the president said.
“And that means that I am willing to work with anybody — Republican, Democrat or independent — to get stuff done. And I am not going to put the pause button on for the next year and a half or two years or whatever it is, simply to position myself for the next election. If I’ve got a Republican who’s willing to work with me to rebuild our infrastructure, let’s go. If I’ve got a Republican out there who’s willing to get serious about what we need to deal with our long-term deficit challenges, I’m prepared, come on, let’s talk.”
But Obama then suggested he’d draw the line at “climate change” deniers. “If I’ve got somebody who has a different approach to dealing with climate change — I don’t have much patience for people who deny climate change, but if you’ve got creative approaches, market-based approaches, tell me about them. If you think I’m doing it the wrong way, let me know. I’m happy to work with you,” said Obama.
The fundraiser at a private residence was to support the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

As I recall, you run (or sprint) past the three stones that open the portcullises and then use the Whirlwind Sprint shout to sail through before the portcullises close again. If nothing is working, you can open the in-game console and use the tcl command to turn off collisions, allowing you to move past any obstacle. Or consult uesp.net, which has been the main site for info on the Elder Scrolls games for almost two decades.

My BIL had to get his well drilled three times. The water samples kept coming up with hydrocarbon contamination. Turns out the pipe used was sprayed with WD-40 sometime in the past. Almost impossible to get rid of, short of re-smelting the metal.

In 2008, Minor sold the company he founded, CNET, to CBS in a deal valued at $1.8 billion, from which Minor’s haul was reportedly $200 million. Minor then went on a spending spree — he called it “investment” — that looked an awful lot like a mid-life crisis. He bought hotels and mansions and race horses. He also frequently found himself in legal disputes over unpaid bills, hassles that included losing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit to Sotheby’s auction house. It was reported last year that he and his new blonde wife owed the state of California more than $10 million in unpaid income taxes.

Hubby came home yesterday, just as the sirens were going off.
When the storm trackers on tv said..."Multi-vortex carousel on the ground, near El Reno, headed due East!"...
[That meant it was headed right for us.]
Hubby said..."That's it. We're getting out of here."
So we got in the truck and headed away from it.
He's seen too many people trapped in debris over the years, so that was his main concern.
Trouble was, hundreds of other people in our area had the same idea.
The traffic was unbelievable...thousands of people were evac'ing SW Oklahoma City.
It took six hours to get back home, with debris and flooding conditions knocking out some of the roads.
There were some deaths, sadly.
A young mother and her baby were killed not far from our house.

Tammy al-Thor, water lillies are pretty hardy and will keep the shade in place for the fish. And you'll need a decent pump than can turn it over at least 1 time each day.
Water Moccasins = small shotgun and no vines or brush along the shore. But mostly a small gage shotgun.

Now that attention is brought to WD40.... we can expect the greenies and the commies to find something horribly wrong with it and ban it.
What do you think they will think of? Contributes to excessive soda drinking? Emits green house gases? Makes you color blind? Get ready you know it's coming.
As it is you probably have to scan your driver's license to get it. You have to scan your license to buy canned-air to dust your computer, at least in WA.
