Superbowl XLVIII
— Dave in Texas

I think we're running out of Roman numerals. This is an early SB post in case anyone wanted to start talkin trash. There will be another one at gametime.

Last game of the season, Broncos and Seahawks.

How's the weather in East Rutherford NJ today? Not bad. Looks like snow tomorrow.

Oh and some jackass mailed some baking soda to several hotels around Metlife Stadium and also Rudy Giuliani's midtown business office. What a dick.

ICYMI, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman might not be the dick you think he is (sorry, Buzzfeed link). I think I like this kid.

Happy Superbowl - more later!

11 Here's how you  deal with the Richard Shermans of the world:

I don't care whether he's an overall good  guy.  On the largest stage of his life, he pulled a dick  move.  Maybe he's a nice guy, but he decided NOT to act like one, then and there.

Now, compare him to Demaryius Thomas, the guy who is probably going to match up against him the whole game.  No trash talking, no chump behavior on the field, a  significantly different life story from Sherman's.  A class guy, all around.

If you need somebody to root for, root for him.

Go Broncos.

Recently I watched an ESPN special about the 1958 NFL Championship game between the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants called "The Greated Game Ever Played." During halftime the Baltimore Colt's cheerleaders did a silly dance dressed as raindeer. They had fake antlers and red clown noses and wore tan one piece swim suits. What was funny is most people who watched the game saw it in B/W, and the cheerleaders looked nude.

I figure it might be close.  Yeah Seattle's offense isn't all that amazing but, Denver's Defense isn't necessarily lights out either.

At the same time Seattle's D doesn't have their fans to really disrupt Denver, and Denver doesn't have the altitude advantage to gas the Seattle as fast.

I think a telling indicator will be Seattle's defense around mid way through the third quarter, if they are standing around, hands on their hips, and not really moving while waiting for the snap then Manning has made them his bitch.

Exactly.  Football is a wonderful game.  The NFL sucks.  We're probably not that far away from me not caring anymore.

Another thing to look for during the broadcast:  how many times they use the word "concussion."   I swear  announcers must get paid extra for  talking  about it.

111 PSH.. did a good job in that movie.  I didn't think I'd like it, but his performance was so well done ... in fact that whole movie was well done.  One of those movies I didn't think I'd like at all until it was all over and I thought, hmm... that was pretty well done.

That seems like less of an issue than being drained.  You know, when you're fresh you will certainly notice it, but through the game you're going to be in a particular state where you will ignore that growing fatigue, but once you hit that point where you can no longer ignore it that will feed on itself.  And in Denver its probably going to hit you sooner, especially when you are staring at Peyton Manning.

132 122 - But you still run into the same logic problem. Now you're just talking about a different type of advantage that they should still have over the other team at any altitude.

Posted by: Trey Wingo at February 02, 2014 09:57 AM (celt+)

133 I wonder if they've considered adopting the wider, longer Canadian fields. Wider puts a premium on speed, meaning more athletic lineman and fewer 'hole stuffers', and more big plays. The Canadian fields are longer both in the field of play and the end zone. I think just the latter should be considered.....maybe make the endzones roughly 5-8 yards deeper but make give each stadium some flexibility on the added size so teams with cramped dimensions can still add space (and then you have 'field quirks' that come into play). A bigger endzone means more scoring, more passing. The impetus is the injuries. Just as conservative economics understands how incentives can change behavior, make changes to the size of field to make the teams smaller and faster, which conceivably could mean fewer injuries. I don't know how speed and size interact in a football hit so that might be wrong. But I like the idea of a more explosive game and more touchdown passes, which are audience pleasing.
