The Morning Report - 4/16/21 [J.J. Sefton]
— Ace Open Blog

Good morning kids. Friday and the weekend is here. At the top is the breaking story of a mass shooting that left 8 people dead at an Indianapolis FedEx facility, including the attacker. No real details as to the identity of the aforementioned or motives, but like the Nation of Islam DC Gumball Rally and jihad enthusiast, or the Boulder and Atlanta incidents, this too will be buried by the propagandists if the assailant wasn't a white male Christian MAGA supporter, or cannot be easily transformed into one by the NY Times editorial board. Prayers for the victims and their loved ones.

Now, onto the continued drive to turn us into a totalitarian vassal state of either the Chi-Coms or the global ummah, whichever one gets the upper hand. So far, the Yellow-Red Peril is in the lead, certainly here in the land of the freebie and the home of the knaves, the latter controlling the instrumentalities of government while firmly in the pocket of Emperor Pooh-Xi.

In February 1946, George Kennan, then-deputy chief of mission in Moscow, responded to a request from the Treasury Department to detail the Soviet situation. The USSR had recently declined to take its supposed place in the postwar international order by declining to endorse the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, among other things.

Kennan's response was as unexpected as it was prescient. In a telegram that exceeded 5,000 words, now justly known as the Long Telegram, Kennan outlined the character of Stalin's regime: its "neurotic view of world affairs," its "instinctive Russian sense of insecurity," its Marxist-Leninist outlook -- "the fig leaf of their moral and intellectual respectability" -- that formed its fear of "capitalist encirclement" and justified the brutality of the five-year plan, and so on. Most importantly, Kennan predicted Soviet efforts to destabilize western nations via the exploitation of preexisting domestic conflicts and thereby erode trust in political institutions and processes. Kennan warned:

Efforts will be made in such countries to disrupt national self-confidence, to hamstring measures of national defense, to increase social and industrial unrest, to stimulate all forms of disunity. All persons with grievances, whether economic or racial, will be urged to spelt redress not in mediation and compromise, but in defiant violent struggle for destruction of other elements of society. Here poor will be set against rich, black against white, young against old, newcomers against established residents, etc.

This should sound familiar. China is now evidently adopting this playbook described by Kennan. Through well-timed social media blasts and carefully tailored opinion pieces, Beijing is both spreading its Communist message, (artificially) improving its international image, and exacerbating domestic fissures -- especially racial tensions -- in the American sociopolitical landscape.

Bingo. And whether they actually believe the crap they are spewing or just using it as a means to dupe an already alarmingly duped mass of the citizenry as a means to further consolidate power and accrue total, permanent control is irrelevant. If our so-called "sacred democracy" (puke) faces existential threats from white supremacist or other xenophobic violent fictitious bogeymen, then all bets are off in terms of not just correcting the problems and "restoring" order (as the so-called "moderates" of the tyrannical set allegedly want) but of actually wiping the slate clean and eradicating every vestige of America as founded. That is the goal of the Maoists and Marxists since they believe you cannot restore something that never existed or was evil/illegitimate at the outset.

Hence, shambling lipid mass and purveyor of raw sewage Jerry Nadler's idiotic, yet still shockingly Orwellian proclamation:

"Some people will say we’re packing the Court. We’re not packing the Court; we’re unpacking it.”

No doubt, this turd of an aphorism is going to be repeated ad nauseam from the usual quarters in DC and its house organs. But unfortunately, like "No Justice No Peace" it's going to stick with far too many who don't know any better. Reason, rationality and facts don't distill into catchy little football cheers like "Ooh-Ongawa-Alexis de Tocqueville's got the powah!" Seriously, what good is it for me to shriek for the umpteenth time that we're not supposed to have "balance " on the court between conservative and liberal. We're supposed to have unanimous fealty and respect for the principles and words AS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN of the Constitution, regardless of the personal political preferences of those appointed to the bench. That means, no penumbras and emanations in order to get the outcome of a case that otherwise could never have passed muster either in the voting booth or in Congress, the completely FUBAR nature of both of those notwithstanding.

One can look at all the horrendous decisions of SCOTUS since its inception, and the perverted pretzel logic used by some truly horrid people to get the political outcome they wanted. But given the state of the nation as it is today - essentially dead - arguably the worst of the lot was John "Julia" Roberts in upholding Obamacare. One can once again fulminate over William O. Douglas' magical "right to privacy" written in invisible ink or Hugo "once you go" Black's "separation of church and state" from the same inkwell, but Roberts literally took a red pen and re-wrote the law by declaring something specifically designed as a "penalty" as a "tax." No wordy rambling pretenses and interpretations of what the framers meant or flowery philosophical ramblings about justice and Magna Carta or the Bible. A naked, shameless and absolutely illegal action that should have jettisoned his career (and him) into the heart of the sun. That it did not speaks volumes of the amoral, unethical and power-mad attitude of 99% of the denizens of DC and other governments around the former United States.

So now, in order to transition to a more perfect disunion, anything goes and everything goes: Packing the courts, federalizing elections and creating the mechanism to insure Democrats win up and down ballot forever, ditto abolishing the electoral college, D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood, plus amnesty and reparations.

It's funny how the meme that has been pushed for years is that America is or is rapidly becoming a majority liberal-left country. But if that were really the case they wouldn't need to steal elections, give amnesty and Democrat voter registration to millions of illiterate third world peasants. destroy our governmental institutions and push through massive changes that guarantee they control the whole shooting match forever. Yet that's exactly what they're doing. Meh, it's an insurance policy, right?

And here we are: an overthrown government, a propaganda and educational system that indoctrinates and brainwashes, a corporate sector acting as enforcers to coerce compliance with the regime or ruin the lives of those who refuse, media platforms who readily censor any voices of dissent and opposition, a law enforcement and intelligence service that considers anyone who dissents a threat to national security and order, "vaccine passports" (!!!) and the demonization of an entire segment of the population (which is still the majority) as "enemies of the people."

George Washington warned Americans of this happening in his Farewell Address in 1796.  He said, "One method of assault may be to effect, in the forms of the Constitution, alterations which will impair the energy of the system, and thus to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown."  This was true in Nazi Germany, and it is true in America today.  The Nazi Party couldn't win a de facto majority through elections, so the Nazis passed a bill to seize power.  The Democrat Party can't win a de facto majority through elections, so they propose H.R. 1 and packing the Supreme Court.

Frederick Douglass once said, "The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."  We better tap into vast stores of endurance, because if not, we might as well say, "Heil the Democrat Party."

How do you say "it's deja-vu all over again" in German? Have a nice weekend.

12 Interesting! Hard to keep up without a program, and a lot of our spooks were playing for the other side, but it sounds like Kennan was a good guy, from his public pronouncements. Some people have the knack of just cutting through all the BS, and Truth generally has a self evident quality of its own. I don't normally trust any of those guys.

So. . . being woke now requires reinforcing racial stereotypes in the depictions of characters. To borrow from Biden, "you ain't black" unless your characters is surrounded by people of the same race/etnicity and enjoys the food and other trappings of his race/ethnicity. Got it!!

China learned well from the USSR, but they have long since passed the time that the student became the teacher. They are more subtle and more effective than the USSR ever was. They learned a *lot* about how to subvert westerners during the Korean War. They turned their POW camps into factories to produce sympathetic "enemies" who came around to their side. Their discoveries there were invaluable, and that was 70 years ago now. They've had generations to refine and enhance.

As does virtually everyone who comes into a windfall, but it's even worse because the windfall is both continuous and given as a *right* - something to which the recipient is entitled to receive. It's toxic, and it's toxic for everyone it touches.

Maybe it was Johnson's intention to "make things right" for the historically oppressed black population, but I kind of doubt it. I think he knew it would be a human disaster but didn't care because he was buying vote with other people's money. If we wanted to make reparations in a meaningful way (I am not advocating this position, it is just a thought experiment), what could we actually do? Some things we have done - like removing legal and structured injustice. That's important. Breaking the teachers' unions and improving education (likely by canceling and outsourcing it) would be a net benefit to poor urban areas, and therefore help the people who live in those places - most of whom are black in many cases - a lot. We could negotiate for territory so that the black nationalists can have their own country if they so desire, complete with a security guarantee and agricultural and industrial knowledge transfer.

There are lots of things that we could try that don't involve ripping vast tracts of our populace to shreds. But we don't, because it's not about trying something and seeing if it works. It's about corruption and buying vote and nothing else ever.

that's the reason for the the quick, hard push

I think the military will back them.  I have little doubt of that.

Now - will individual soldiers or officers refuse to fire on Americans?  And will the supposed "50 million pissed off gun owners" really start picking off soft targets one by one until the military realizes they aren't winning a war against American insurgents?

Well, THAT's the $64,000 question.

69 The video of the exchange between Jim Jordan and Tony "The Mask" Fauci was instructive.  I like Jordan, but he should have hammered Fauci on not giving him a metric when the pandemic would be over -- Fauci kept saying "when infections are very low" and Jordan never got him to define what "very low" was.

This characterizes every time Jordan interrogates someone; it always falls short or concentrates on the wrong thing.  He reminds me of my idiot brother whenever I need him to do something and it never gets done the way I want.

It's a lot harder than people usually think. There's a reason that the Nazis moved to industrialized murder and disposal. Digging pits and putting bullets into people has two problems. It takes too long and it gets to the people doing it. There are tremendous numbers of people who will go along with genocide (it wouldn't work otherwise), but making people do it all up close and personal with guns and pits breaks a lot of the people ordered to do it. It gets unreliable at scale. Thus the cattle cars, gas chambers and crematoria. You can make *that* work with a lot fewer people at the controls and you can always find enough truly monstrous operators to operate it industrially. Then you just need the masses to go along with it without asking too many questions.

Really?  The uniform seems a little sedate for the Reichsmarshall.

Which reminds me of one of the few Nazi jokes I know: Hess' son was traveling with his father one day, and they stopped at Goering's place first.  Hermann was in one of his gaudy uniforms, blazing with medals, and the table was loaded with the finest of wine and food.

The next visit was to Robert Ley's, the Reich Labor Chief.  Again, splendid uniforms and groaning tables.

The third visit was to Dr Goebbels.  No uniforms, but tables full of the finest delicacies and sophisticated guests from the world of film and stage.

Finally, off to Schickelgruber's place.  The Fuhrer is wearing a simple brown uniform and the food is vegetarian, washed down with bottles of mineral water.  Hess' son turns to his father and says, "Daddy, isn't the Fuhrer in the Party?"

(well, maybe you had to be there)

146 That's important. Breaking the teachers' unions and improving education (likely by canceling and outsourcing it) would be a net benefit to poor urban areas,

The fatal flaw in that thinking (actually quite  number) is around the idea that the best and the brightest are in limitless supply.  The unions exist because few of the teachers are employable due to lack of intelligence, sloth, poor habits, mental pathogens, amorality, greed...  the usual stuff that plagues all of mankind.

Those who truly want to teach end up in private schools or will burn out due to the administrative foolishness.   But by just waving the hand and banishing teachers unions doesn't mean that people will change their majors and careers, and those inclined to engineering, medicine and finance will change course to dodge bullets in the classroom for next to no pay for an ungrateful and feral student body.

162 It's horrible, no doubt about it, but there is one upside to court packing: it will so delegimize the court states and individuals wi cease to be obedient and bound by its decisions. Obviously the monstrous entity in D.C. would go Tiannenen Square in a nanosecond, so the individual states must develop the appropriate means to respond. As many of us have written, if and when the opportunity presents, get out of places like D.C, NYC, and LA.

221 Democrats stimulus is distorting economic realities and papering over some very fundamental issues with consumer spending. They've pulled forward a lot of consumption and with prices rising that doesn't bode well for the future. With inflation ticking up we are going to get a double-whammy, and when rate increase start to kick in, it's going to put a damper on credit related activity. None of that is good and many AM's continue to predict year end S&P around December 2020 levels.

Agree with TJM that the acoustics of the room are extremely important. Depending on how serious you get, you can buy foam panels that you install in key areas of the room to minimize reflections. Also invest in a decent microphone if you can afford it. You don't need $1000 mic, but definitely go above a $20 mic. Audacity is a free, open-source sound recording and editing program. If you are a Mac user, then you can use the built-in Mac program (Garageband? Not a Mac user) for recording/editing.
One thing I've learned over the years is that decent audio is FAR more important than decent video quality when it comes to multimedia content.

Except the bear would carry a big growler of beer into pretty much any terrain. You'd be high up on a switchback and here comes a bear with refreshments for everyone! 248 Fenelon - I would not be hesitant to take your cat into the vet office to be euthanized.  Vet techs are usually quite caring and will do their best to make kitty comfortable.  You can ask to be in there.  When I worked at the vet, I would usually ask the owner if they wanted a lock of hair, then I would put it in a baggie.  When your cat is so sick, just having you around is the most important thing, not your furniture.

And I'm not a great chef just an average guy so it's one of the few good things that's easy to make. When I buy from the market it's hard for me to buy a well-marbled half-dollar size of meat so I buy sirloin too. My family, in their ignorance, don't like fat so they are ok with that too. Check up thread. Grammie mentioned working in a vets office. So she likely has experience and knowledge of what the process costs to do it at the vet. So maybe she see the "at home" markup cost as being more than maybe what it should be, especially if you're already equipped as being an in home vet.

It does take a certain combination of empathy and experience, but technically it's not difficult.  What's difficult is the emotional experience, for the owner as well as the vet or vet tech.  I would sometimes spend half an hour with an owner during and after the process, whether at home or in the office.  And people might not realize it, but it does take its toll on the vet and staff as well. Either place.  I'm just saying that one needn't feel that they have somehow short-changed their pet by not doing it at home. I did none of mine at home, but I held each of them in my lap and they knew I loved them.

289 In a report released April 12th by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) the Monthly Energy Review, they report that energy-related CO2 emissions decreased by 11% in the United States in 2020 primarily because of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions.
Furthermore, U.S. energy-related CO2 emissions fell in every end-use (consumer) sector for the first time since 2012. The EIA notes:
"CO2 emissions associated with energy use fell by 12% in the commercial sector in 2020. Part of this drop in emissions was due to pandemic restrictions. Because electricity is a large source of energy for the commercial sector, the declining carbon intensity of electric power also contributed to declining CO2 emissions from commercial activity. Emissions from commercial electricity use fell by 13%. Commercial petroleum and natural gas emissions fell by 13% and 11%, respectively.”
"Within the U.S. power sector, emissions from coal declined the most, by almost a fifth, at 19%. Natural gas-related CO2 emissions rose by 3%. Also of note in 2020; fossil fuel generation declined, while power generation from renewables from wind and solar continued to grow.”

290 Fen,
Sorry about the kitty. When it was Splotch's time, we used an in home vet to do it. Cost was comparable. If you have other pets, they may exhibit frightened behaviour while they grieve. MegaRoy stayed under a bed for two weeks. He still hides when the doorbell rings becuse he thinks the next one will be coming for him.
If you have other pets, take themmin to the vet for baths, nail trimming, teeth cleaning, etc. So they won't associate strangers with death.

yes, but any nuke anywhere is a very bad day ... so it seems like bad logic.  But there is more and more talk of use of nukes ... maybe it is mostly a fear campaign, to get us to submit to the "higher powers", and give up ever more liberties.  idk ... Russian nukes have been there a very long time, even when Reagan "escalated". ... (my guess is we should be trying to form some detente with Russia, and treat China as the biggest enemy ... hard to know what is really going on)
