Consumer Reports says Mazda is the most reliable car brand now. I find this hard to believe?Posted by:vmom sic semper stabbicusat April 06, 2021 09:52 PM (GBZnB)
I do too, a little. On the Japanese big three spectrum, Honda was more expensive but better appointed, Toyota was slightly expensive but bulletproof, and Mazda wasn't quite as reliable as the other two but way more fun.
But that impression is maybe 20 years old, so ymmv.Posted by:hogmartinat April 06, 2021 09:55 PM (t+qrx)
I had a 2012 mazda 3 that had 175k on it when i had to total it due to water damage, about 5 years ago. it was a stick, great car, never gave me a single problem. hell the brakes lasted 125k on it.
i would have bought another one when my car died, but they changed the cockpit layout, and the stereo / nav / tablet thing literally looked like someone glued a tablet on top of the dash as a after thought. it was just TOO ugly and i hated it. i wanted another 3.

i would go for a Ford Explorer. It depends on the year I suppose, in fact I know that. But people bash them and call them "Exploders"., my experience has been the exact opposite. I drive a Sequoia now and everyone told me it was ten times better. But the gas mileage is horrible, the electronics that run anti lock breaks etc are defect, and I get more recall notices from Toyota than I got letters from lovers while in service.
They say the Toyota engine will last 400k, so there is that. It is also super powerful, if you put the pedal down, that thing will move. With both it might be hit and miss depending on the year. i am no car guy, and we do have many car guys here.

Up to 2004, the Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 (6) cylinder in-line was one of the most reliable and capable SUV's out there. I still have one (1999, 175,000 miles) and highly recommend it. that is what happened to my Explorer. I didn't want to give that one up. that year was famous for lasting forever. I went to a junk yard to replace the driver's seat but they didn't have one. The guy that ran the lot drove the exact model but he was not going to give up the vehicle for me.
i will say this about the Sequioa. That thing will move when you want it too. The engine is pretty famous. But I had some bad luck with mine. They sold it to me used with a fault known in the brand. The antilock breaks are failing. They don't bother me but it is not something you want to deal with after a "thorough inspection" prior to purchase. It also gets crap mileage, like 10 to 12 miles crap. But again, lot of power and other than all the recalls, it has been reliable. At this point I am ignoring them. I was them to recall the anti lock breaks.

Blanco if you are happy with your purchase the latest generation of Ryzen desktop APUs is sadly OEM only. The Ryzen 7 4750G is an amazing processor with very good on board graphics so unless you are doing a lot of video post processing it can do damn near anything you need.

A man can have sex with animals such as sheep, cows, camels and so on. However, he should kill the animal after he has his orgasm. He should not sell the meat to the people in his own village, but selling the meat to a neighbouring village is reasonable.
If one commits the act of sodomy with a cow, a ewe, or a camel, their urine and their excrement become impure and even their milkmay no longer be consumed. The animal must then be killed as quickly as possible and burned.

Much of the public expected an automatic conviction based on a widely seen video--- people saying no need for a trial, it's obvious guilt, etc. There's all this other stuff coming out in the trial, that they didn't see. Maybe the prosecution got caught up in it, and thought it was a slam dunk; and was less diligent as a result.
End of May or so, expect riots.

Some DeForest Kelley trivia: He played a small role as a medic in The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit, 1956, and uttered the line, "He is dead, captain" and later "This man is dead" to Gregory Peck's character.
Apparently Hollywood thought he made a good doctor, and he began to get doctor roles. In an episode of The Virginian, he played a heavy drinking doctor and Leonard Nimoy played one of his patients. Nimoy's character died.
And then he became Bones. And was probably the worst case of typecasting ever. He was Bones and only Bones pretty much after that. He said his greatest fear was that his tombstone would read, "He's dead, Jim."

It was DuMont who invented the "Electronicam", an alternative to the kinescope. Jackie Gleason continued to use the Electronicam for the Honeymooner episodes, and that's one of the reasons the Honeymooners episodes are such relatively high quality. The Electronicam used a beam splitter to split the incoming light into two beams, one to a TV camera and the other to a film camera. The disadvantage was the camera system was very bulky and cumbersome.

If only Ford had built it with better parts.
It had the potential to be a zippy little miniature Mustang, but was unfortunately built in the era of the crappy Mustang with cheap parts and yeah. My brother killed ours when the battery came loose of its moorings and spotwelded its self to the hood. We got it going again with a little hole in the hood but that was a very odd mechanical failure.
It actually had some get up and go but yeah was just not very well made.

Thanks. It was a good visit, indeed. Not a "happy" visit. But GOOD. She passed when I was 19, and it fell on me to manage and liquidate the estate, while home on emergency leave from the USAF.
Another good thing about this trip out West, with Herself New Dawn. She's seen every story I've told her over the years, confirmed. Every place I've described, every event recounted, substantiated. Even in meeting up with a childhood friend who now lives in his folks' former house, in my former neighborhood. Once he started with the tales of our youth, it sounded just like ME telling the stories. And, oh.. dear LORD, there are stories.
It's been an interesting life so far, albeit not a particularly easy one. But it sure hasn't been boring.

That's just awesome. You do know that your tribute has undoubtably inspired others to do the the same.
Glad you made this cool trip of remembrance. Your Mom would really be so proud of you for honoring her.

Ace and the crew here really do one helluva job to bring this smart military blog for us to gather. Today, I wouldn't have blamed Ace if he just said "to hell with this, I'm done!" But he didn't, and kept prodding on through the ongoing failures. It was a testament to Ace and those that work with him. Some very solid folks here, behind the scenes.

Khloe Kardashian's pic, without any touchup, was somehow released and the Kardashian family went nuts trying to recall it. Khloe doesn't even look like the pics of her that the Family normally releases. That link from publius at 408 shows her in all of her actual, natural glory, wearing a string swimsuit. To be fair, she isn't ugly, but a normal-ish body of a bigger girl instead of what the Family has foisted upon the public, shows how far they will go to control the message. But the Kardashians are worth more than a Billion dollars today. Because Kim started it out making homemade porn and mama Kris seized the opportunity to make them a whole lot richer than the late dad could make them. And having Jenner's dad go all nutso probably helped the bank account, too.

Here in N IL I think the earliest we planted sweet corn was the first of May. You have different growing season there.
Best of luck to you w/ the weather this year. Hope you have a great crop.

I've got some hybrid yellow sweet corn seeds, pretty expensive, and I'm gonna see how they do.
Roughly, soil temperature around here, average is around 60F.

Unfortunately I introduced a bug just before signing off last night, right before Ace logged in for the day to start posting. That was the cause of his frustration yesterday; the cobs who posted earlier weren't affected.

Well, all I have to judge by is the results.JJS made the best adaptation imho. And I did comment earlier about Ace's frustrations.
I'm just awarding JJS a tiny Gold Star. Fuckity, but I'm afraid to click on ANY of the special features. I don't wanna get blamed for breaking the new blog.

Finished up a bunch of things, Installed a Sony XAV radio, sirius, microphone array, backup camera, steering wheel radio controls, ham radio and antenna.
The only thing I may add is a CB radio, probably buy a really cheap cobra or Uniden radio.
The biggest pain was the previous owner hacked up the OEM radio harness to install an aftermarket radio instead of getting a pigtail.
Which is a really meatball thing to do.
