Runnin' Against Joe Six Pack and Sarah America (Kat-Mo)
— Open Blog

Well, you thought I was joking about how the Hyde Park set views Joe Six Pack?

Joe Six Pack is supposed to sit down, shut up, take the government hand outs he is getting and drink his beer. He should be happy, too, because the "liberals" in control of the government haven't outlawed beer. Yet. Gay marriage? Check. Running naked through the streets equals freedom of speech? Check. Drinking a six pack of beer and complaining about the socialist government? Soon to be illegal, if current activities are any indicator.

Yeah, yeah. It's all one big joke until Joe shows up and actually asks a question. Then it's all Kristallnacht, stormtroopers and Plumbers Verboten.

Apparently, under an Obama administration, plumbers will be forbidden to make more than $30,000 a year and sweat a pipe without an Obama stamp of approval. Otherwise, they become bourgeois fat cats who should be taxed out of their coveralls. Anybody else want to profess their occupation before asking The Anointed One a question? He has an economic plan for you, too. It's called "the unemployment line".

Random thought: I suspect "Joe the Plumber" is going to get a lot more write ins than Mickey Mouse this year. Although, obviously he can't compete with Mickey's 50 state, ACORN assisted voter registration.

Sell Me on Thomas Pynchon
— Ace

Downblog, someone asked if he should read Gravity's Rainbow.

I say No.

I have to disagree with counter. It sucks. I know 30 people who have never gotten past the fucking banana fritters in chapters 1-3.

I hate it. I've tried reading it four times. My eyes slide off the page. He's too interested in weaving esoterica into prose.

You've probably already read it, but let me suggest the Cliff's Notes to any Pynchon -- Crying of Lot 49. 150 pages, punchy fast and funny, and pretty much it's the same Pynchon as in any of his brutally long books, so you're covered. You can pretend you read Gravity's Rainbow -- just swap out banana fritters for The Trystero.

I can take esoterica and wordplay for 150 pages. For 600 -- no thank you, Madam.

PS, since this is a geek site, I'll tell you something else:

The Pynchon pastiche The Illuminatus Trilogy sucks too, even for a "fun book." I tried to read that this summer, having heard about it since college.

What's the point?

PPS, I'm kinda drunk.

PPPS, if you want to read a classic "literary" corkscrewed-view of WWII novel, go with Catch 22. You'll hate it for 60 pages, begin to submit for the next 40, and love it the rest of the way.

And no banana fritters for 100 pages, either.

Arthur nnnyyuhh gughhhhh Death Ray Instruction Manual, ugghhhh....

A recently published Air Force Instruction paper has established a safety program for Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs), also affectionately known as death rays.

Here's what's obviously the best paragraph.

DEW systems create unique hazards that are different from conventional and nuclear weapons," the paper informs. "Potential DEW systems covered by this instruction include, but are not limited to, high-energy lasers, weaponized microwave and millimeter wave beams, explosive-driven electromagnetic pulse devices, acoustic weapons, laser induced plasma channel systems, non-lethal directed energy devices, and atomic-scale and subatomic particle beam weapons.

Ahhh. Luscious.

Let's look at that in more detail.

DEW systems create unique hazards that are different from conventional and nuclear weapons

That's the point!

DEW systems covered by this instruction include, but are not limited to, ...

There's MORE coming!

The mighty list.

high-energy lasers
YES.

weaponized microwave and millimeter wave beams,
YES!!

explosive-driven electromagnetic pulse devices,
Oh BABY - PULSE ON ME!

acoustic weapons,
SCREECH

laser induced plasma channel systems,
I don't even know what this is but it makes me hard.

non-lethal directed energy devices
Set boner for stun.

atomic-scale and subatomic particle beam weapons.
You had me at atomic!

Is every mad scientist in the world working for the US defense department?

Overnight Thread

Word that sounds dirty but isn't: meniscus.

Jenjhis... had prepared an overnight thread intro, so here's what she (?) wrote:

Because once again, Gabe is too drunk to type.

I wanted to tack on a P.J. O’Rourke comment, but I can’t remember which book it’s from. Something about amusing yourself and to paraphrase it went something like: “Just check your lap. Feel around down there. Ahh, now you’ve found it.” From one of his earlier books, I think, but I’m not about to flip through all of them tonight to find the exact quote. I have a life, even if you don’t, cock-holsters.

SET UP: TEN YEAR REPUBLICAN SCHEME PUTS COVERT "GOPERATIVE" JOE THE PLUMBER IN EXACT HOUSE WHOSE DOOR BARACK OBAMA WAS DESTINED TO KNOCK UPON
— Ace

Karl Rove, You Magnificent Bastard!

...Mr. Wurzelbacher was playing football in his front yard with his son, Joey, on Sunday afternoon when Mr. Obama made an unscheduled stop to go door to door greeting voters and asking for their support.

I got news for you: Whatever door Obama knocked on, Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher (aka Agent X-88 Delta) would answer. Agent X-88 (and his "son," the midget French acrobat/psychic assassin "Joey") lived in all the houses in the neighborhood, each connected to the rest by a series of underground tunnels.

His "neighbors"? All constructed of space-age polymers.

That's right, I said it: Polymers.

Thanks to Tree Hugging Sister.

Remind me again: Why is the media "vetting" a plumber who asked a question, rather than a Senator who answered it?

Congratulations, Obama!: Media's Savaging of Joe the Plumber Causes Witness to Ayers-Obama Relationship to Get Cold Feet
— Ace

The tip, and this is just a tip, but it's coming from someone reliable:

The problem in this story is twofold. Without wanting to provide details, the story really needs a second source.

Tom Maguire? Buddy? Please answer my emails.

The second problem is that anonymity -- no names, no pictures-- is requested. He fears retaliation and harassment. And who knows -- perhaps more.

Media may get away with going single-source on this, or anonymous sources, but not both single-source and anonymous.

So here's the day's twist: Believe it or don't.

The source was considering dropping his demand for anonymity. Thus likely moving the story forward. (He wasn't considering going forward with the Politico, by the way: but with the other, more important organization.)

And now, today? After witnessing Politico, among others, savage Joe Wurtzelbacher?

Cold feet.

The Politico has this story. They've had it for a while. They don't want to run it with the guy's anonymity kept intact.

Gee, I wonder why he wanted to keep that?

They're willing to endlessly vet anyone who even asks Barack Obama a question, but not Barack Obama himself.

I can pretty much understand the media's reluctance to allow anonymity -- except for the fact that the media so gleefully engages in the witness intimidation that prompts the request for anonymity in the first place.

As of now, the story appears dead.

Again, second source crucial. If anyone has the guts to go up against Obama's cultists and his state media.

The Other Party on the Story: I should say the Politico's reasoning is not obviously biased, because the other party, whom I respect, has the same damn problems.

I am picking on the Politico, however, because let's face it, they are a bit loose with the rules when it suits them, and because they took part in this "vetting," as they call it, of a citizen who dared to ask a question.

They're part of the same smear campaign and creepy threats of retaliation -- a home address? Why does that need to be known to a charged, angry electorate? -- against a guy who asked a question.

No, the Politico didn't do that part, but they dug an awful lot. And encouraged digging, because any leftie who hit upon something would get his tip published.

I cannot even imagine what would happen to a guy who called Obama a straight-up liar on his supposed "flimsy" relationship with The Terrorist William Ayers.

They know what this guy fears -- because they just participated in it.

Any dink of a sub-bureaucrat who could whistle-blow against the Bush Administration would have his story told -- with anonymity.

But it's different for The One.

Obama's Fascist Truth Police Move to Run Joe Wurzelbacher Out of Business
— Ace

Remember when those prosecutors and sheriffs announced they'd get you if you "lied" and said Barack Obama would raise your taxes?

You thought they were kidding, right?

Well, Obama has a lot of supporters working in government. And they're not about to allow a citizen to say anything negative about The One, at least not without serious consequences.
Republicans are the ones with "hate" issues, huh?

This rotten socialist bastard and his creepy Marxist cultists are already using the power of the state to destroy people who cross him, and he's not even in office yet.

Headline Changed: The original one was far to, um, "figurative" in blaming this on Obama directly.

It's Toledo officials, not Obama's "Truth Squad."

This is part of what the "Truth Squad" threatened though: Legal harassments for anyone daring to "lie" -- or tell a non-approved truth -- about The One.

Related: Congressional challenger to Loretta Sanchez (D-Illegal immigrant vote fraud) indicted for "misleading" investigators about letter informing non-citizens they were not entitled to vote, and in fact doing so was illegal.

Question.

Let's assume he did mislead investigators about his involvement. Why were partisan investigators at the DoJ investigating him and asking him questions at all?

Well, you know: Telling illegal immigrants that it's illegal for them to illegally vote is voter suppression.

Or rather illegal voter suppression.

Same difference, I guess.
