1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Monday, April 21, 2014. On this day in 1918 German fighter ace Manfred von Richthofen, better known as "The Red Baron", was shot down and killed over Vaux-sur-Somme in France. Officially a Canadian pilot, Captain Arthur "Roy" Brown, is credited with the shoot down, but most likely he was shot by Australian ground troops with a machine gun. Snoopy had no comment.

3 More flack on Common Core. NY tests include numerous product brand names leading parents question if these are product placement ads. NY educators deny this and the teachers and school officials are forbidden from discussing it. However anonymous teachers have remarked about it in blogs.

Brands including Barbie, iPod, Mug Root Beer and Life Savers showed up on the tests more than a million students in grades 3 through 8 took this month, leading to speculation it was some form of product placement advertising.

I suspect that the companies making these materials were paid to do this and they never contacted the State educrats at all. Why do I suspect this? Because this is the kind of crony corruption crap you ALWAYS get when you remove local control of a public function and give it to a centralized authority.

13 The Supreme Court will hear a case involving the new TV service called Aereo which takes off the air TV signals and rebroadcasts them via the internet for a fee without paying the networks or broadcasters (as cable does). According to this article this case will decide the fate of broadcast TV.

The case arises from American Broadcasting Companies v. Aereo in which Aereo won against injunctive relief in the circuit court and the 2nd court of appeals. Copyright law is incredibly muddy but after looking at what is going on here I side with the networks. I like the "little guy" usually but I see this as pure copyright infringement.

The actual Common Core testing doesn't begin until next year. Last year, New York chose to develop their own test to begin the testing process two years ahead of everyone else. They probably did use the same company that will handle the real test, Pearson. This year, schools are doing what is known as field testing the test. About 10% of the students are taking an initial form of the test to validate the technology and the questions as appropriate. Our state is in the same consortium as New York. There have been no reports of product placement so far.

One just had Snoopy vs the Red Baron and then a couple of other original songs and a bunch of cover songs (where I learned 'Little Red Riding Hood") and the other had S vs RB, The Return of the Red Baron, and Snoopy's Christmas. The second album was neat because each of the Snoopy songs was prefaced with a little two minute intro that was supposed to be WWI BBC reports from the western front.

They haven't figured out that two of the highest-volume liquor stores in the state are about 6" across the county line. A while back, a local restaurant got an exemption from the state to sell beer. They even agreed to have a separate room to segregate it from the general population. The churches were OUTRAGED! and began boycotting the place on Sundays after church. The owner eventually backed down, but the damage was done. He was closed a couple of months later.

What we need to do is first, totally eliminate the "federal war on drugs", all federal drug laws, the federal drug police and departments, and all federal subsidies to local police departments.

The the locals will have to fire about half of their departments and get rid of all the military SWAT teams except in big cities like NY and LA.

Then we need a serious reform of tort laws such that the COPs are held accountable and not the taxpayer. That means getting rid of the travesty known as joint and several liability.

The dog's owner, Jorge Rodriguez, told NBC Los Angeles that the "attack" consisted of his dog barking at the stranger. Rodriguez almost managed to completely suppress his smirk while expressing sympathy for the deputy who tried to kill his dog.

If that had been me, I would have taken a bat to the deputy while he was limping. A year in jail would be a small price to pay to serve a little overdue justice on assholes like that.
