— Open Blog Eddie Adams is running against incumbent Kathy Castor for FL CD-11, parts of Tampa, the Southbay, Bradeton, and a chunk of south St. Petersburg. It's a light blue district demographically and electorally, but it is in play. It went for Bush in 2000, for example.
Well, someone decided that hanging effigies didn't go far enough, so (apparently) they affixed a mattress to the underside of Adams' SUV, where it caught fire, which then spread to the vehicle interior. Adams was hospitalized for the resulting burns and is continuing his campaign.
Did I mention he's black?
Yep, sure is.
And yet, noone carried this, that I'm aware of, except for local AM 820. Not the Tampa Tribune. Not the (Pulitzer-winning!) St. Pete Times. Not the local broadcast news outlets. Nada.
Let this be a lesson to persons of all races, genders, ethnicities, and religions.
Violence against minorities is only outrageous when the political axis of the victim aligns correctly; anything else is a wash.
Go Vote.
Especially in FL 11 (and FL 13.)
Show these people that we can't be intimidated. Show them that you fight fire with franchise, and that we shouldn't be afraid.
UPDATE! Dems scatter voter information across major Tampa interchange. (Malfunction Junction to the locals.) Below the fold. more...

— Open Blog I wish somebody had tipped me to this guy's site before, because it's good stuff. I took a quick look at his latest post (thanks to PowerPro here) and thought it must be more warmed-over everythingisawesomeism, but closer reading revealed a really smart, well-thought-out piece that makes sense even if we lose a close one today. (GOTV!) He very much gets, at the very least, what's happening on our side, and if his overall optimistic analysis pans out then he's the new Jay Cost (or something).
You really should take the time to read the whole long thing, but extended excerpts (previously quoted by me in the Palpy thread) are under the cut. more...

— Ace Say, keep the open blog open until 11:00.
Keep it really newsy today. as that's all that people care about today. (Though I guess observations about the polls being off and/or reasons for optimism are an exception.)

— Open Blog According to CNN ”Dixville Notch has spoken: ItÂ’s Obama in a landslide.”
”DIXVILLE NOTCH, New Hampshire (CNN) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama emerged victorious in the first election returns of the 2008 presidential race, winning 15 of 21 votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.”
Well, it was a good run, but now McCain is down 21 electoral votes and has no hope of regaining the lead in his bid for President of Dixville Notch, NH.
CNN has unconfirmed reports of unicorns descending from the clouds above. Stay tuned.

Now it begins...

— Ace The least vetted candidate in history:
A former Illinois real estate specialist says FBI agents have questioned him about a Chicago property that had been bought by convicted felon Tony Rezko's wife and later sold to the couple's next-door neighbor, Sen. Barack Obama.
The real estate specialist, Kenneth J. Conner, said bank officials replaced an appraisal he prepared on the property and FBI agents were investigating in late 2007 whether the Rezko-Obama deal was proper.
“Agents and I talked about payoff, bribe, kickback for a long time, though it took them only a short number of minutes of talking with me while looking at the appraisal to acknowledge what they already seemed to know: The Rezko lot was grossly overvalued,” Mr. Conner told The Washington Times Monday.
“Rezko paid the asking price on the same day Obama paid $300,000 less than the asking price to the same seller for his adjacent mansion,” he said. “This begs the question of payoff, bribe, kickback.”
In a wrongful-termination complaint filed last month in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Mr. Conner said his appraisal of the Rezko property, held in Rita Malki Rezko's name, was replaced with a higher one and he was fired when he questioned the document.

— Ace An administrator at the Business School really replied that way.
No explanation to why a university wouldn't want to make information available to the public.
Just "Yeah, right... loser."

— Dave in Texas I'm not living in that past tense yet, but I do love their reasons. I'll call it "five reasons Obama oughta lose".
One nit.
There are many Republicans who still remember Democrats stealing the 1960 election with voter fraud in Chicago and Mayor DaleyÂ’s expert campaigning in cemeteries to deliver the zombie vote for Kennedy.
Hey! I remember reading about it.
All seriousness aside, I don't think it's all that well known. 2000 and 2004 nonsense fresh enough though.
Good read. Hope they're right.

— Ace PDF: She's healthy. And, PS, she gave birth to Trig Palin.
Now that the McCain team has released this long-sought document, I'm sure Andrew Sullivan is satisfied.
Thus endeth Andrew Sullivan's short lived but furious fascination with a woman's vagina.
Updated: I didn't realize the PDF had been uploaded to McCain's site. So now I've linked it.
Mystery over.

— Ace If tomorrow knocks us this site down, there are back-ups.
The half-finished ace.new.mu.nu site might work.
The very old blogspot site, where I started the site, should stay up. That would be the last possible back-up. I'd only go to that if both mu.nu sites went down.*
You might want to bookmark those, because, well, if this site goes down tomorrow, you're not going to be able to see those links.
* If I have to go to this site, I'll send the comorons my logon to this site. Assuming I can remember and/or get a reminder email.
