— Open Blog Well at least according to Hillary:
SEN. CLINTON: ...The point of the surge was to quickly move the Iraqi government and Iraqi people. That is only now beginning to happen, and I believe in large measure because the Iraqi government, they watch us, they listen to us. I know very well that they follow everything that I say. And my commitment to begin withdrawing our troops in January of 2009 is a big factor, as it is with Senator Obama, Senator Edwards, those of us on the Democratic side. It is a big factor in pushing the Iraqi government to finally do what they should have been doing all along.
My powers of prognostication are unquestionable! I predicted that the left would have to make up an excuse to avoid crediting Petraeus with the success of the surge, I just didn't think that they would actually take credit themselves!

The upside of a Cowboys winÂ…Dave in Texas will be happy.
The upside of a Giants winÂ…NFC Championship Game at Lambeau Field.
The only thing that is certain is that whichever team wins, the outcome will benefit Mitt Romney.

— Ace One poll has Romney up 5.
Another one has him up eight.
Who does this benefit?
There can be only one answer: Mitt Romney, for realies this time.
Although it also helps Fred! If McCain loses his status as the front-runner that everyone is coalescing around, obviously that puts a lot of votes in play.

Because of so many men wearing ridiculous bikini bottoms, I assumed this event took place in Europe.
Not so.
Flabbergasted.

Dude brought home some little pieces of dry ice to show his kid and sealed it in a jar.
Standing in front of the house on Quaker Hill Road yesterday afternoon, Lopes said he had no idea the dry ice would release so much gas as it warmed. His mistake, he said, was screwing on the container's lid so tightly.Lopes' stepdaughter, Anna Fabbri, 23, was in the basement when the explosion occurred, he said. Startled, she asked a friend she was chatting with on the computer to call the police. A neighbor, who would not give her name, said Fabbri was worried at first that the noise could have been from an intruder.
Police from Suffolk's Sixth Precinct responded, as did arson squad detectives, the Stony Brook Fire Department, the University Fire Marshal and other emergency services officers.
How embarrassing.
While emergency personnel were at the scene, some of his neighbors were not allowed to come up the road to get home.
Can't even calculate the number of bundt cakes this type of faux pas requires.
VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: We here at AOSHQ would like to remind any young/ impressionable readers to not try this at home, or any of the other experiments some wiseguys are suggesting in comments.
This is not called a moronblog for nothing.

— LauraW. Awww, man.
KODIAK, Alaska (AP) — At least 19 bald eagles died Friday after gorging themselves on a truck full of fish waste outside a processing plant.Fifty or more eagles swarmed into the truck, whose retractable fabric cover was open, after the truck was moved outside the plant, said Brandon Saito, a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who coordinated the recovery operation.
The birds became too soiled to fly or clean themselves, and with temperatures in the mid-teens, began to succumb to the cold. Some birds became so weak they sank into the fish slime and were crushed.
The surviving birds were cleaned off and sheltered in a warm area.
I know they are common in other parts of the country, but they've only just recently returned to the upper Connecticut River Valley. In Winter they fly out closer to the ocean and perch all day, moving as little as possible to conserve energy. It's a tough time of year to be an Eagle.
There's a nesting pair quite close to our house, and the impressively large male suddenly buzzed low through my yard while I was gardening a few Summers back.
Having never seen a bird that big so close before, it almost stopped my heart.
Anyway, sad story. Glad somebody cared enough to get Fish & Wildlife out there and save as many as they could.
