Code Pink Morons at Berkeley
— Dave In Texas

I don't even feel like spelling it right. It's like my middle name, it's spelled wrong and kiss my ass if you don't like it.

Nice Deb covered the pussies morons ignoramuses* at Berk, who have decided that perhaps maybe their attitude regarding Marine recruiters is a little counterproductive to the line item on the revenue app.

Fuck them.

Moron of the Year
— Ace

So yesterday I was in airport hell all day and wound up missing McCain. I don't much feel like getting into that at the moment. The one huge thing going on here and I -- with a big fat assist from American Airlines and a cabbie who scammed me -- missed it.

As for the Moron of the Year thing, I was told out of the blue I'd be getting this two or three weeks ago. I didn't say anything to y'all because I was told it was "embargoed" until today. (Though it seems a lot of people wound up finding out, as people were congratulating me last night.)

Coulter's Speech at CPAC
— Ace

Not actually at CPAC, as she wasn't invited by CPAC itself. Rather she was invited by the YAF and held her speech in a room in the hotel.

I just saw her. As the recording will soon be up and running, I'm not going to bother quoting what you can see for yourselves shortly.

Some basic takes:

First of all, everyone who was watching her speech for the reasons they say people watch car races -- for the crashes and carnage -- came away disappointed. She was funny but mostly substantive. She had two "edgy" zingers, neither one all that bad. First, she did a call-back to her notorious "faggot" line about John Edwards, saying that Hillary wanted to change her campaign song again to Eyes of a Woman but John Edwards already was using it.

Eh. Kind of obligatory to reference that joke again. And since then, hell, everyone's doing that joke so I can't be bothered too much by it.

The other line which I don't think was intended to be a joke just seemed to come out wrong. She was making the point that John McCain, being 71, was set in his ways and would not be changing his ways to please conservatives. At his age, she said, he's playing for posterity -- for the "obituary page."

This got some shocked rumbles of "ooohs" but she immediately explained and softened what she'd meant -- that someone at his age isn't worried about a further political career, but only what history will say about him, and history is written by liberals and so that's who he'll be playing to.

I really think this was just an off-the-cuff remark that came out a lot darker and edgier than it was ever intended to. Still, I expect some will be making hay over this.

MSNBC's Shuster Suspended for Clinton "Pimped Out" Remark
— Dave In Texas

Temporarily suspended from all NBC news broadcasts except to say he's sorry.

In a conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson on Friday excoriated MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting the Clinton campaign had "pimped out" 27-year old Chelsea by having her place phone calls to Democratic Party superdelegates on her mother's behalf. Wolfson called the comment "beneath contempt" and disgusting.

Oh come on Howard, it wasn't that disgusting.

It was dumb. I'll give you that. And the suspension made me giggle.

CPAC Blogger of the Year Award
— Gabriel Malor

Well, the Moron-in-Chief won the Blogger of the Year award at CPAC. Hopefully he will be along in a while to tell us all about it. For now, here is John Hawkin's experience of meeting Ace:

Ace runs a pretty wild blog, uses a lot of profanity, and so I'm thinking, "Hey, here's a great opportunity for a 'Coulter' moment. Ace could come out wearing a Motorhead 'Ace of Spades' t-shirt, spit beer into the crowd, drop a few F-bombs. This could be great!"

So, when I finally see Ace I am completely and utterly shocked because he sort of looks like Mark Steyn. But, I figure, "Hey, maybe the guy is just dressed up for the convention, you know like a thug who gets dressed up for court."

But, then Ace starts to talk and -- dude, he sounds like a political science professor. He talks about the differences between European and American political parties and I am wondering if somebody conked Ace on the head and replaced him with a local college professor.

This echoes my experience meeting Ace at Aceapalooza West. He is soooo laid back. What California people label "chill."

Thanks to Dr. Remulak for the link.

MORE: I didn't mean for that to sound passive-aggressive up there. I'm genuinely pleased that Ace won Blogger of the Year. My congratulations, chief. I'm even more pleased that Ace decided to go to CPAC this year. For a while, it sounded like he wasn't planning to go.

His win nicely dovetails with the observation two weeks ago that several important figures in the nomination contest are regular readers of Ace, including campaign staff and at least one candidate. With that kind of readership, it seems clear that his recognition at CPAC, in the Weblog Awards, and in several other awards is well-deserved.

Keep up the good work, Ace.

UPDATE: Jack M. I think we all know the key to Ace's success. In fact, I'm pretty sure it can be summed up in two words: Epic. Poems.

Grats, Dude!

UPDATE to the UPDATE [Dave in Texas]: Newsbusters blurb here.

Update to the Update to the... [Slublog] - Andrew Sullivan "congratulates" Ace on his award. Thanks to "Jack" in the comments.

A Transgendered Student In The Third Grade?
— DrewM.

And now folks we have reached the end of the line when it comes to this particular line of absurdity

The issue of being transgender usually pops up with students in high school. However, a 2nd grade boy wants to dress as a girl and wants teachers and students to address him with a girl's name.

"As a public school system, our calling is to educate all kids no matter where they come from, what their background is, beliefs, values, it doesn't matter," said Whei Wong, Douglas County Schools spokesperson.

Of course there's actually a support group to advocate on behalf of this idiocy.

Kim Pearson says the family is getting support. She is the executive director of a national organization called TransYouth Family Advocates. The group has been working with the family and Douglas County Schools.

"Initially there was a lot of resistance," said Pearson. "Now, their position is they want this child to be safe in their school."

...
Pearson says children as young as 5 years old are realizing their true gender identity and her group wants to help parents who may be resisting the acceptance of this.

"Parents are likely to think this it's a phase, but how long do phases last?" said Pearson. "With these kids, it's something that's very consistent."

Look, I don't have kids and am not an expert on them but kids as young as 5 can't be trusted to know what they want for lunch let alone what gender they want to live their lives as. That's why they are ...CHILDREN.

Let's see, you can lose custody of you children for smoking in this country but letting them change their gender identification is simply a lifestyle choice to be accommodated is just fine? Something is very, very wrong here.

DNI: About That "No Iranian Nuke Program" Thing? Uh, Never Mind [someone]
— Open Blog

This story seems to have been lost in the political fallout of Super Tuesday:

At a hearing yesterday of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, the intelligence director, Michael McConnell, said [...] "I would change the way we describe the Iranian nuclear program. I would have included that there are the component parts, that the portion of it, maybe the least significant, had halted."

Mr. McConnell was referring to the specific Iranian program to design potential nuclear warheads, which the December estimate said had halted in 2003. But in his opening testimony, Mr. McConnell noted that two other components of the nuclear program were moving ahead — the enrichment of uranium, which he said was the most difficult part of making a bomb, and the development of long-range missiles capable of hitting North Africa and Europe.

(Emphasis added.) In other words, the story was an empty one, released as a political hit. Nice job.

(As far as an actual warhead design goes, why would they even need to work on it? Surely North Korea and/or AQ Khan will provide one off-the-shelf when the time comes.)

[UPDATE - PA]
Risen claims the Clinton administration already gave the Iranians the design for a Russian nuclear weapon. CIA supposedly farkled the design of course, but the claim is that the design farkling was superficial and easily detected/corrected. More here at a Guardian story about the claimed op. Article snip below the fold. more...

Stating the obvious [someone]
— Open Blog

"ecure our borders first", at this point, means amnesty. Specifically, it means a phony declaration that the border is "secure", accompanied by an amnesty that overrides (that is, prematurely ends) state and local attempts to enforce employer sanctions and the like.

It may be tempting, in the next months, to pull the wool over your own eyes, but don't say you weren't warned.

UPDATE (via Eeyore): Kaus rips the "sneering contempt" in McCain's "suckup".

True Tragedy Strikes In The St. Louis Suburbs [eddiebear]
— Open Blog

Tonight, a guy stormed into the City Council meeting at City Hall in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, MO and started shooting. Sadly, at least six people (including the shooter) are dead.

Please keep the victims and their families in their prayers.

UPDATE [someone]: On a somewhat less horrible note, a guy almost went on a massive Super Bowl shooting spree because his trashy theme bar idea was nixed:

A few months ago, Tempe officials denied Havelock's application for a liquor license for a Halloween-themed bar called The Haunted Castle, city spokeswoman Shelley Hearn said.

Tempe officials never recommended the license to the state liquor board, Hearn said.

"There were some neighbors who came forward and said it wasn't the right business for their part of Tempe," she said. "They'd heard he wanted to call his place 'Drunkenstein's.'"

The FBI said in the complaint that Havelock had planned to attack Super Bowl fans at the stadium in what he called an "econopolitical confrontation."

— Purple Avenger

Seen on Drudge The Archbishop of Canterbury caused consternation yesterday by calling for Islamic law to be recognised in Britain.

He declared that sharia and Parliamentary law should be given equal legal status so the people could choose which governs their lives...
Coming soon to the rest of Europe and the USA. There won't even be a battle like there was with the Moors.
