Good Morning Sunshine
— LauraW.

Still sipping coffee and waking up.

Want to see a TV news-show guest completely subvert the intent of a segment so that it makes your skin crawl and you feel bad for the newsbabe but it's still funny anyway?

Check out this video.**

When does McDonald's stop doing breakfast? Crap. I think I'm too late.

**Originally credited the tip to genghis. That was wrong.
More coffee....

Filthy Scandi Seahorses
— Dave In Texas

A rebuttal.

I believe it was Hans Christian Andersen who said in Den lille havfrue, "EN seahorse en gång stycke min syster". Buried in his little allegory was a warning, seahorses aer are filthy, dangerous creatures.

Sure, they look "cute". But given an opening, a seahorse will steal your drink, fuck your sister, run up your Discovercard past the red zone and start a meth lab in your bathtub.

Hans Christian Andersen knew this. Now you know too. Ignore it at your peril.

This shall not stand
— Russ from Winterset

This morning, I woke up to find that this blog now endorses sea horses, which is a shock to me. I don't remember being consulted on this endorsement, and it's customary to come to group decisions about important endorsements like this.

My shock at the AoSHQ endorsement of seahorses will now force me to resign my commission and end all association with this blog. This is a big decision, and I am only taking this action because of a personal tragedy in my past.

You see, my whole family was slaughtered by seahorses. We were on a weekend trip to Orlando when I was seven, and my parents took us to see the new "Seahorses on Parade" exhibit. What's that you say, you've never heard of the "Seahorses on Parade" exhibit? Well, duh. They hushed that mutha up as fast as they could and paid off the executor of my parents estate to keep it out of court, but I've got to tell the story now no matter how much of that sweet, sweet blood money I'll lose by telling the truth.

I'll tell you what. I'm not going to sully my reputation by associating with a bunch of assclowns who think seahorses are "cute".

PS - Michael says that you're a dirty, dirty whore for endorsing seahorses, but I'm not sure if he means that in a bad way or a "good" way. It's hard to tell.

The Blog Endorses Sea Horses
— LauraW.

I haven't actually asked Ace his opinion on this issue, but I have to assume we are of the same mind, since he asked me to Co-Blog.

That means we think the same thoughts, all the time. It's a special thing.

So really, I'm just saving him the effort of a post right now.

Let me preface this:

1.) It's nearly 3 am on Saturday night.

1.) I'm a little fucked up right now. Actually, stone-goddamn-drunk.

3.) I've independently decided that the blog has come out in favor of Sea Horses.

3.) That's pretty much it. Sea Horses are cute.

Sleep tight, Ace. I got this whole blog thingy wrapped up like nothin'.

Larry Johnson Is Off His Meds Again! [eddiebear]
— Open Blog

International man of mystery and infamous intimidator of bloggers Larry Johnson is back and crazier than ever. Owing to Ace's policy about not linking to lefty sites, here is what TopSecretK9 and Goldstein have found out about Larry's reaction to moveon.org endorsing Obama.

Sufice it to say he is not happy. I guess if I were the folks at moveon.org, be prepared for threatening phone calls late at night from some guy in Virginia.

What did Larry write to make me think he was going nuts?

Sappy Saturday: AOSHQ Morons Share Music
— LauraW.

Don't Tell Me You Don't Know What Love Is

Look, I'm a chick.

...go in for all of that sweet syrupy love music. Every drop of it.

You guys in for sharing some of your preferred music with us tonight?

Doesn't have to be love music, whatever you'd like to listen to this evening, I'm game.

Post links in the comments, if you would be so kind.

Here's my initial entry. Heard this bit of lovely fluff today, had forgotten how much I liked it. Short but sweet, sweet. It's advisable to floss afterwards.

OH YEAH: The video part kinda sucks. Sorry. Close your eyes.

PS: Knowing you guys, I have a feeling that after posting this, we're in for some Death Metal. Don't scare me too bad.

Oh, what the Hell. Scare me.

Writers' Strike: Our Long National Nightmare May Almost Be Over
— Gabriel Malor

In informal talks, negotiators for the guild and the studios have agreed to a pay structure for internet streaming (although, both sides are keeping mum on what exactly that structure will be). Internet distribution was central to the dispute, which means the strike may be over this week.

The key provision settled on Friday, according to the New York Times, was what to do about streaming content. The paper said the AMPTP members wanted to pay a flat fee of $1,200 for one year of streaming, as in the directors' contract.

Writers wanted 1.2 percent of the distributor's total streaming revenue. How that issue was resolved was not exactly clear, said the newspaper.

Any breakthrough would calm the worried U.S. media industry. The Los Angeles Economic Development Corp has estimated the strike cost the region's film and TV industry at least $650 million in wages, with over $1 billion more in lost earnings attributed to a ripple effect on the local economy.

Why do I care? I watch a lot of television. I'm not one of those folks who fashionably pooh-poohs modern television and movie content. But mostly, because I want to see the end of Battlestar Galactica before 2010.

Romney Wins Maine
— Slublog

With 64% of the vote counted, it's Romney 52%, McCain 21%, Paul 19%, Huckabee, 6%.

It's a non-binding preference poll, but then again, so was the Iowa Caucus. We just have far fewer voters, which probably explains why we got no love from the media or the candidates.

Well, we had heavy turnout today, and a state that tends to like independents like The Maverick™ handed him a loss.

On behalf of Maine Republicans, you're welcome.

Update - Given MaineÂ’s political makeup, this should have been an easy win for McCain. This state has had two independent governors in the last 30 years. We routinely re-elect Snowe and Collins to the Senate (sorry about that, BTW), who are quite a bit like McCain in political temperament, popular in this state and who both endorsed him. Maine was the only state Ross Perot won in 1992. IÂ’m surprised McCain conceded it, to be honest. I expected him to win.

Turnout was high today. Quite a few people I talked to (strangers and acquaintances) were concerned with the rise of McCain in the primary, which may explain the lopsided vote Romney received. There's a real enthusiasm gap for McCain - everyone I spoke with today will vote for him if he's the nominee, but he's not a popular figure even with the independent-minded voters of this state.

I'm not sure this really means anything in the long run, but it's a pleasant little win for Romney.
