The Too Dam Hot actually refers to my stupid computer, though, which I have overused and now gets too hot after several hours' use and needs to be shut down for a half hour or so. (Yes, I have a fan system on the way; I hope that helps.)
So despite having not blogged much of anything, I need to log off for a while. Or else this thing is going to melt down.
Thanks to polynikes for that.

— Open Blog

A disturbing, sideways walking, elfin creature was caught on video recently, stalking a group of effeminate teenagers in an Argentine village. As per usual of such strange phenomena, the picture quality is too dark and grainy to ascertain exactly what the moving object was. Midget? Dwarf? Travelocity spokesman? Hobo hunting gringo on vacation? Who can say...

— Gabriel Malor Will Majority-Minority Districting Cost Obama Mississippi in Today's Primary? Or at Least Temper His Victory?
Barack Obama has overwhelming support in the few polls conducted in Mississippi. The latest, by InsiderAdvantage, puts him at +17% and suggests that he will have "a solid win" today. This poll and all of Mississippi's polls were weighted to reflect the expected demographics of voters in the state as a whole. That is, the pollsters adjusted the numbers to account for age, race, and gender. All three categories are important predictors of voting behavior, particularly in this primary contest. But the pollsters forgot one important thing: not all districts are demographically equal. That omission may cause Obama to lose the expectations game or worse...the delegate allocation. more...

— Ace Laura Ingraham's pretty down on Brett Favre's tearful performance.
Here are two of her quotes (more at the link):
"All these years and I didn’t know there was a woman quarterback in the NFL.”“That’s a great message for young boys. Get up there and act like a girl.”
I'm not as angry as BrewFan is, but for crying out loud, Laura. Try not to descend into self-parody just to get some "hot" radio.
The joke runs that a man's only allowed to cry at the birth of his children and the death of his parents. Well, that's a good starting point, but I think we can also add in walking away from a career one loves while simultaneously having people beam well-wishes and prayers at you.
That last part is a big one: If a guy gets an entirely undeserved outpouring of support from strangers but doesn't get teary eyed, well, that guy is either so arrogant to believe he deserves it or just without normal human emotion.
It's a sort of overwhelming feeling to get that sense of intense support from one person, never mind a roomful.
So come on, Laura. Lighten up. And butch up, too. Yeah, butch up. Because if you're doing this Brett-Favre-is-a-big-fat-blubbering-pussy schtick you're not really as flinty-tough as advertised. It's pantomime.
It isn't that any of this is hurtful or insulting; it's not. It's too silly to be. It's just that it's pure ass.
Besides, there's a biological explanation for getting all weepy in such a situation: mirror neurons. You see someone yawn, you yawn. You see someone kick their shin into a table, you wince. You see a bunch of people getting teary on your behalf, you get teary back.
They seem to be the biological mechanism for visceral, emotive empathy.
Seriously, it wasn't me being a pussy over the weekend with my let's-not-fight-post. It was my gaywad mirror neurons.

— Ace This is fucking amazing. It's like they're not even bothering to hide it anymore.
This is a slideshow by ABCNews displaying pictures of 13 politicians caught up in sex scandals.
Check out the big brain on Piglito as he runs it down for us:
ABC News has a slideshow recounting 13 (12 involve elected officials) famous political sex scandals. The 12 break down thusly: five are Democrats, seven are Republicans.
Of the Dems listed, only one is identified as a Democrat [one out of five].
Of the listed Repubs, six are IDed as Republican. [Six out of seven.]
Media bias quantified.
The one unelected official, incidentally, is explicitly ID'd as a political appointee of President Bush's, so while his nominal party isn't mentioned, hey, they sure make sure you know which team he's playing for, eh?
This is all in our minds, huh, MSM?
It's all accidental, right?
Then why does it keep happening, and why do you stubbornly refuse to make a simple style guide change -- requiring the party ID of any and all politicians caught in scandals upon first mention, in the first paragraph?
It's because you want to preserve your freedom to continue doing this. Only Republican scandals are, in fact, Republican scandals. Democratic scandals are never identified as such, and instead are, in your "nuanced" telling, either scandals of a particular man alone or of "The System" generally.
This Also... was spotted at The Corner.

— Ace True enough, I guess I have disagreements with my own cobloggers.
But on something like this, I really think that Glenn Greenwald, Rick Ellensberg, and Thomas Ellers should synthesize their positions so their joint blog isn't so hopelessly schizophrenic.
Greenwald:
So, to recap: in Louisiana, Vitter carried on a year-long affair with a prostitute in 1999. Then he ran for the House as a hard-core social conservative family values candidate, parading around his wife and kids as props and leading the public crusade in defense of traditional marriage. Then, in Washington, he became a client of Deborah Palfrey's. Then he announced that amending the Constitution to protect traditional marriage was the most important political priority the country faces. Rush Limbaugh, Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich supported the same amendment.
As always, it is so striking how many Defenders of Traditional Marriage have a record in their own broken lives of shattered marriages, multiple wives and serial adultery
Ellensberg:
Regarding all of the breathless moralizing from all sides over the "reprehensible," outrageous crimes of Eliot Spitzer: are there actually many people left who care if an adult who isn't their spouse hires prostitutes? Are there really people left who think that doing so should be a crime, that adults who hire other consenting adults for sex should be convicted and go to prison?
Ellers:
Glenn Greenwald is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.
You know what? Of all of Glenn Greenwald's cobloggers, I like Rick Ellensberg the best. He seems reasonable.
I think I might ask him to coblog over here.
I think he'll accept.
Anyone else up for that? Rick Ellensberg now posting under his own byline at AoSHQ?
Here's One Distinction... The Spitzer Scandal has a t-shirt.

Incidentally... Greenwald claims there's endless "hand-wringing" and "breathless moralizing" over this case "from all sides."
I dunno. I didn't have much time to read other blogs today but I didn't see much of that.
Note he doesn't link anyone exhibiting this "hand-wringing" and "breathless moralizing" type behavior.
Could it be that Glenn Greenwald is just making shit up as usual? Casting himself as the sane voice of reason in a world gone mad?
Spitzer should go. He's the top law enforcement officer of his state, the superior officer of every cop in New York state, and he seems to be a chronic law-breaker. On top of that, he's a nasty self-righteous hypocrite.
But "hand-wringing" and "breathless moralizing"? Who out there is shocked that politicians sometimes cheat on their wives, and sometimes do so with hookers?
Note that this is Glenn Greenwald making this accusation of emotional upset among all but himself. And this is the second-most emotive, vituperative, irrational and hyperpartisan hack on the internet, after his soulmate Andrew Sullivan.
Gleen has forgotten more about "hand-wringing" and "breathless moralizing" than most of us will ever know.

— Dave in Texas A Michael Yon update, from the Man of Substance.
A bit of a warning. It feels harsh. Harsh, that is, if you don't hate these fuckers.
So, you know, your milage may vary. Anyhow, a bunch of young bucks were killing time playing Guitar Hero (which I suck at, and I play, you know, a goddam guitar) and got the call.
Kiowa warriors kick some Al-Q ass.
Some coolness:
I often watch the live feed streaming down into the Tactical Operations Centers (TOC) around Iraq, while crosshairs track the enemy, and the screen lists data such as altitude, azimuth, ground speed, and the precise grid coordinates of the target
Oh hell yes.
Five assholes departed, one perhaps made it out with tinnitis.
UPDATE: Commenter Gideon suggested I check out Scott Ian of Anthrax, also sucking at Guitar Hero. Which was satisfying. Except, he's like, actually talented. Probably wealthy too.

— Ace How ya like those $ in the title? It's like the Post.
not_steve_in_hb is bothered by this:
The federal investigation of a New York prostitution ring was triggered by Gov. Eliot Spitzer's suspicious money transfers, initially leading agents to believe Spitzer was hiding bribes, according to federal officials. It was only months later that the IRS and the FBI determined that Spitzer wasn't hiding bribes but payments to a company called QAT, what prosecutors say is a prostitution operation operating under the name of the Emperors Club.
As recently as this past Valentine's Day, Feb. 13, Spitzer, who officials say is identified in a federal complaint as "Client 9," arranged for a prostitute "Kristen" to meet him in Washington, D.C.
The woman met Client 9 at the Mayflower Hotel, room 871, "for her tryst," according to the complaint. Client 9 also is alleged to have paid for the woman's train tickets, cab fare, mini bar and room service, travel time and hotel.
The suspicious financial activity was initially reported by a bank to the IRS which, under direction from the Justice Department, brought kin the FBI's Public Corruption Squad.
"We had no interest at all in the prostitution ring until the thing with Spitzer led us to learn about it," said one Justice Department official.
A corruption probe? Of a politician paying out money to unknown parties?
Seems kind of a stretch.
Oh: Allah's had this a while, and from his excerpt, I get this:
Spitzer, who made his name by bringing high-profile cases against many of New York’s financial giants, is likely to be prosecuted under a relatively obscure statute called “structuring,” according to a Justice Department official.Structuring involves creating a series of financial movements designed to obscure the true purpose of the payments.
So I guess the payments were suspicious because they seemed deliberately obscured/funked-up.

UPDATE: In Your Face, Suckas! I Was Right!
— Ace Okay, I blew it last time, but here we go.
CNN's entire article about Spitzer fails to disclose his party membership.
Go ahead, search for "Democrat." Not there.
Thanks to LGF for that.
Bonus: Culture of corruption &c.
Now I'll Hat-Tip TusharD: Now that he's wrong.
TimesWatch says that that NYT article I previously said didn't mention Spitzer's party ID until the 15th graf did not, in fact, mention Spitzer's party ID until the 15th graf.
There have been three versions of the story so far, with his party ID being moved about.
