Craiglist Hoax Costs Man Most of His Possessions
— Ace

Flash mob:

A pair of hoax ads on Craigslist cost an Oregon man much of what he owned.

The ads popped up Saturday afternoon, saying the owner of a Jacksonville home was forced to leave the area suddenly and his belongings, including a horse, were free for the taking, said Jackson County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan.

But Robert Salisbury had no plans to leave. The independent contractor was at Emigrant Lake when he got a call from a woman who had stopped by his house to claim his horse.

On his way home he stopped a truck loaded down with his work ladders, lawn mower and weed eater.

"I informed them I was the owner, but they refused to give the stuff back," Salisbury said. "They showed me the Craigslist printout and told me they had the right to do what they did."

The driver sped away after rebuking Salisbury. On his way home he spotted other cars filled with his belongings.

Once home he was greeted by close to 30 people rummaging through his barn and front porch.

The trespassers, armed with printouts of the ad, tried to brush him off. "They honestly thought that because it appeared on the Internet it was true," Salisbury said. "It boggles the mind."

Jacksonville police and Jackson County sheriff's deputies arrived but by then several cars packed with Salisbury's property had fled.

Wow. Think about that -- how simple it is to pull off something like that and seriously screw with someone's life, all by remote-control.

Guess That Party: Corrupt Alabama Governor of Unknown Party Affiliation Released From Prison
— Ace

Hm. Republicans are named as such in sex scandals because, the claim goes, we make such an issue of it we're hypocrites when we indulge in trashy behavior and thus it's very, very relevant to the story, so much so it goes in the headline almost without fail.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Democrats have made a great deal of hay of the "culture of corruption" they claim is/was due to a Republican presence in DC.

So-- if I'm following the MSM's (ahem) logic -- shouldn't a Democrat caught in a major corruption scandal at least be identified by party? Shouldn't, in fact, his party run in the headline itself?

Will the MSM ever explain its rules on this? Because it looks, to most of us, like they have the simplest rule of all: Republicans' affiliation headlined, Democrats' affiliation omitted entirely.

CNN at least manages to ID him -- in the 15th of 19 paragraphs.

Thanks to JeffD. and Cuffy Meigs.

Nifty Mashup
— LauraW

Shamelessly ripped from The Hostages:

It’s by a DJ named Mark Vidler who produces under the name Go Home Productions. Although there are some lyrical elements from both songs, it is primarily The Doors singing “Riders On the Storm” beatmatched over Blondie’s “Rapture”. The name of the mash-up is called “Rapture Riders”.

I'm so, so, sick of The Doors, but the music kind of breathes new life into Morrisson. So to speak.

If you do go over to the Hostages, be aware that today is 'Big Boob Friday,' Rosetta picks the models, and he loves having abuse heaped upon him.

White Greed Drives World Need: Jeremiah Wright Moves Into Neighborhood of 93% Typical White People
— Ace

2% black.

Damn, that's dangerous. Doesn't he know they'll all be armed with syringes filled with genocidal weaponized AIDS?

More: Obama Distancing Himself Further From Wright: Maybe it would help if Obama moved into a largely-black community. That would put some physical distance between them.

Obama's now claiming Wright was just his pastor (that's all), and not his mentor or spiritual adviser, despite the fact his own damn book states that he's both of those -- as well as a trusted political adviser whose counsel he seeks on every important move.

Proof of Hillary's Experience in Dealing With Foreign Regimes!: Saddam Agent Claims Hillary Meeting, "Very Receptive" Stance on Easing Embargo Which Was, Supposedly, "Containing" Hussein
— Ace

Experience you just can't match.

Although, let's face it, Obama hardly needs real-world experience in appeasement. The kid seems a natural at it to me. Nothing but upside.

When it's too dangerous politically explosive for the President,
send in the First Lady

A Michigan man facing federal criminal charges of illegally working for Saddam Hussein's Iraqi Intelligence Service says he met with Hillary Clinton at the White House in May 1996.

In a 1997 interview with this reporter, Muthanna Hanooti said that at the meeting, Mrs. Clinton was "very receptive" to his request for an easing of the American sanctions on Iraq that were in place at the time. He said Mrs. Clinton "passed a message to the State Department" about the need to implement the oil-for-food deal, which was intended to allow Saddam to sell billions of dollars' worth of oil to pay for food for Iraqi citizens.

Back in 1997, a spokesman for the first lady referred inquiries about the meeting to the National Security Council. At the time, a spokesman for the National Security Council, Eric Rubin, responded by saying that President Clinton, not the first lady, sets foreign policy.

Asked whether Senator Clinton recalls the meeting or whether the presidential campaign had any further comment on the meeting in light of Mr. Hanooti's indictment, the Clinton presidential campaign yesterday offered no formal response.
...

Mrs. Clinton and her defenders may claim that no one could have known in 1996 that Mr. Hanooti would become an agent of Saddam Hussein, engaged in what a grand jury and federal prosecutors say was a criminal conspiracy. The indictment charges that the conspiracy began "in or about 1999." Mr. Hanooti has pleaded not guilty.

But to reporters on the foreign policy beat in Washington at the time and to those active in the Iraqi opposition to Saddam, it was clear whose agenda was being advanced. The news article in 1997, published in the Forward, that described Mrs. Clinton's involvement with Mr. Hanooti began: "The American-led blockade of Iraq is crumbling, following an intensive, domestic lobbying effort that has involved Rep. David Bonior and Senator Abraham — and, according to some sources, Hillary Rodham Clinton."

Experience you hostile foreign regimes can count on.

A Hopeful Analysis of the Sadrist Uprising in Basra
— Ace

Hopeful =/= necessarily correct, but quite a different take than I'm used to seeing.

Another important aspect of this operation is the excessive enthusiasm of the UIA-led government in striking the Sadrists, who are supposed to be part of the UIA and are also Shiites.

This is the first sign of the rising election fever in the south. Word on the street is that Sadrists want to hijack the provincial elections. Everybody knows that their criminal methods can severely reduce the chances for holding fair elections and may grant SadrÂ’s people huge gains at the expense of other Shiite factions such as the SIIC, DaÂ’wa and Fadheela. The stakes are high for the SIIC in particular whose federal dream in the south, which Sadr is opposed to, hinges on the results of provincial elections.

If Sadr is to be cut down to size before the provincial election law can be passed, presumably his rivals would be able to compete in a relatively more civil way.

The outcome of this operation in my opinion will not involve the extermination of SadrÂ’s militia but rather the reduction of its power.

It's not all honeysuckle and mead, of course.

And the American forces are there too, at least in the air. And they have a shit list, and it's not a good thing to be on that list.

Joshua Micah Ezekiah Bosworth Charlie-Num-Num Marshall makes all bloggers sad pandas by embarrassing us by getting a fact utterly wrong in making a kneejerk partisan point about Iraq. Confederate Yankee notes, however, that this simply makes him more attractive as a recruit for the MSM.

Friday Afternoon Blue Angels
— DrewM

Yes, I know it's old but it's a cold and snowy Friday afternoon in late March (is Al Gore in town?) and I am getting no work done.

Just a note, if the price for me to get a ride with these guys is killing one of you, all I can say is, get your affairs in order. Nothing personal of course but come on, you'd do the same.

BTW- That's not the actual Van Halen video, I guess Youtube keeps taking it down. Below the fold is the original version with A4 Skyhawks instead of the F/A 18 Hornets. more...
