— Ace The trouble with all child stars is that they're children, but like all children want adults to think of them as adults, and engage in the same childish behavior to convince adults of that. Which only makes them appear even more callow.
The vanity project I Know Who Killed Me was just an idiotic attempt to prove she was "adult" (she plays a bad-girl stripper!) and a "serious actress" (she plays a dual role, also playing a good-girl prodigy!).
So now we're at nudity. I don't mind looking at her nude, but honestly, she's never going to recapture that bloom of sexual ripeness she had in Mean Girls.
No, wait, that wasn't it. What's the one I mean? Oh yeah, The Parent Trap.
No, that was awful. I meant Mean Girls. But seriously, she'd better get her crap under control because she's got the mind of Dakota Fanning running around in what is fast becoming the body of Carol Channing.
The girl is modestly and only modestly talented at light comedy but can't accept that. Next stop: A serious, dramatic role in a high-budget, "quality" porno. We'll know it's a serious role, though, because she'll play three roles, like Peter Sellars did in Dr. Strangelove. Except the roles will be called Oral, Vaginal, and Anal.
That'll learn us.
Thanks to Mike.

— Ace As Maguire writes...
Yet again we are exhorted to remember that this says nothing about Obama's actual views and only demonstrates his vast ability to reach out to a wide range of viewpoints, all leftwing. The day is yet to come when we get the news that Obama has close friends in the NRA or the Federalist Society.
And don't think this guy has repudiated terror just because he's a "Former" PLO operative. He's still a big fan of slaughtering Jews, by his own declaration.
Gateway Pundit is willing to go quite a bit farther than that. It seems that as a director of a charitable organization, Barack Obama (along with terrorist pal Bill Ayers) helped get money for this guy's organization.
A top official at the Pentagon during former-President George H. W. Bush's Administration and a former CIA intelligence officer maintains that Barack Obama and former Weather Underground honcho William Ayers funneled money to Professor Rashid Khalidi, a known terrorist sympathizer.Khalidi serves on the faculty of Columbia University in New York and is best known as the professor who invited Iranian President Ahmedinejad to visit Columbia University after he finished his speech at the United Nations. According to confidential sources, Khalidi has direct ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), a group on the US State Department's list of known terrorist groups.
"One source for this information was once a top military figure in the 1990s. He doesn't take making allegations lightly. If he says something happened, believe me, it happened," said syndicated radio talk show host Laurie Roth.
Yes yes yes, guilt by association is just terrible, because as we all know we can't be blamed for whom we choose to associate with, or whom we funnel money to.

— Ace YouTube isn't behaving for me. I'm told it's good. So I'm posting it before actually getting to see it.
Barack Obama nearly claims there is no Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Apart from Al Qaeda in Iraq, I guess he must mean.
Having finally gotten around to watching it, it seems to me he does believe, or at least intends to claim, there is no Al Qaeda in Iraq, but changes it when he realizes Al Qaeda says differently and it would be a major gaffe to claim that.

— Open Blog Film maker Shane Smith from VBS TV has made a very entertaining short documentary on his recent trip to the Socialist worker's paradise that is the Democratic PeopleÂ’s Republic of Korea. This collection of fourteen 3-5 minute videos offers a truly surreal insight into the worldÂ’s most secretive and closed society. It begins with the labyrinth of red tape involved in securing a travel visa, continues on with an exploration of the cult of personality that sustains North KoreaÂ’s Dear Leader Kim Jong-il, and ends with Smith singing an anarchy laced punk rock song at a karaoke bar much to the horror of his hosts. Below is a sample of the film (including the infamous karaoke scene). Pull up a wooden crate, grab a glass of tepid tap water and thank your lucky stars that you donÂ’t live there. (All 14 short videos are located at the link above).

— DrewM I admit I havenÂ’t followed this light compact fluorescent bulbs (aka twisty light bulbs) thing closely but this is crazy. Breaking a light bulb shouldnÂ’t require a HAZMAT response.
Jim Berlow, director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Minimization and Management Division, recommends starting by opening the windows and stepping outside. "Any problems at all frequently are handled for the most part by quickly ventilating the room," he says. "Get all the people and pets out of the room for 15 minutes and let the room air out. If you have a central heating system or an HVAC [heating, ventilating and air-conditioning] system, you don't want it sucking the fumes around, so shut that down."The important thing is not to touch the heavy metal (mercury). After airing out the room, the larger pieces of the bulb should be scooped off hard surfaces with stiff paper or cardboard or picked up off carpeted surfaces with gloves to avoid contact.
Personally, I am going to start stocking up on the trusty, non-toxic, old style bulbs before they are sacrificed once and for all at the altar of Global Warming.

— Ace Via Jammie Wearing Fool with a nod to this critique by none other than Allah himself.
The obvious point here? Yes, you can drag violent passages out of the Bible. (Admittedly, I was a little taken aback by the ones quoted -- I had heard the Old Testament was a bit blood and thunder, but I didn't realize the passages were that violent-minded.)
The trouble with this entire line of rebuttal is, however, that no Christians (or Jews) take such passages seriously. Ask a Christian or Jew about the passages and you will not get the response, "Yes, indeed, the Lord our God counsels us to kill all the boys and take the virgin girls for our own." The response will be an embarrassed "Well you must understand things were different then, and not everything is necessarily literal." Those passages provoke an uneasy response of attempting to mitigate them. They are not cited as actually authoritative.
Not so with the more violent passages of Islam, which are still very much taken seriously by a significant minority of its followers (and here I am being charitable: in many countries it seems this "significant minority" is very significant indeed, up to the level of the 60% "minority" or thereabouts).
The other silliness is that the Warrior of God language is all taken from the same documentary, produced in the West to embarrass and mock the practicioners of warrior-minded Christians. One hardly hears this sort of nonsense on television as if it's a widespread ethic in the West. Hardly. That's the whole point of the documentary, to scorn such folks.
And, on top of that, what these people are talking about by and large is in fact a metaphorical sense of being "Warriors for Christ." And even that metaphorical use of the language of war is enough to make most Christians squeamish, and, indeed, mock their correligionists as lunatic.
If only the command to "jihad" were in fact taken metaphorically by more adherents of the Religion of Peace, rather than the quite-literal command to kill (and rape) nonbelievers.
Video below the fold. This is just a blogger putting together a quickie response, true, but it is telling the examples of Violent Warriors for Christ are so limited in number.
The first step in curing a problem is admitting you have one. This sort of defensive silliness about a real problem infecting Islamic culture is not helping anyone.

— DrewM The head of the IOC says the games are in ‘crisisÂ’ given the international reaction to the Olympic Torch Run and the Chinese government isnÂ’t happy the IOC notices the obvious.
It was "not the joyous party that we had wished it to be," (IOC President Jacques) Rogge said in Beijing, nevertheless insisting that the torch relay -- disrupted by protests in Greece, London, Paris and San Francisco -- would go on.He also told a news conference that China -- under fire over a crackdown in Tibet and a host of other issues -- had promised that winning the right to host the Games would lead to an improvement in human rights.
"We definitely ask China to respect this moral engagement," he added.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told reporters that Rogge's view of a "crisis" might have been exaggerated, and made it clear China would not engage in a discussion on its human rights performance.
"I believe IOC officials support the Beijing Olympics and adherence to the Olympic charter of not bringing in any irrelevant political factors," she said.
Yeah well boohoo for China. They wanted these games because they wanted to be seen as a member in good standing of the world community and they simply arenÂ’t. They got the games because of politics and the desire of corporate sponsors to break in to the Chinese market, now they both have to deal with the political fallout
Neither the sponsors or the IOC should be shocked when they are slammed for getting in bed with a despotic and murderous regime.
