— Gabriel Malor Last Friday, a federal district judge ruled that the UC system of schools can deny college prep credit (which is necessary for admission to UC schools) to Christian school courses which fail to meet standards of analysis and critical thinking. The judge's summary judgment order is here (PDF).
High school students qualify for admission to the UC system by taking a set number of approved classes and either of the common standardized tests. The issue in this case is whether UC can withhold approval from some classes being taught in Christian schools. One school sued, claiming that UC was intentionally discriminating against religion in violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments. UC replied that all courses must meet the same critical thinking and analysis requirements without regard for religion and that it could not make an exemption for religious schools. The judge agreed with UC.
Christian advocates are characterizing this as an attempt to secularize private religious schools, though to be perfectly honest, the schools are allowed to teach whatever they want about religion. It's just that their students will have trouble getting into UC schools if they teach revelation to the exclusion of reason. Let's take a look at some of those rejected courses. more...

— Ace Two clues, though. The man, who was found dead in a hotel room in Denver just as the Democrats are about to stage their convention, named Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, has been positively identified as "Canadian."
He was found dead in his room next to a jar labeled "Cyanide." Police suspect the jar may contain cyanide.
A man with a similar name left the following blog comment, referring to the murder of a Somali Christian by Islamists:
Please donÂ’t talk s**t , that man [the Christian blogger] deserves what happened to him , simply because having the bible in one hand , and a bread in the other hand , is not a correct thing ,! Kill Them , Kill them , Kill them , that is my massage,!
The FBI suspects he may be a Quebecois separatist.
Okay, not really, but given the Rocky Mountain News' failure to identify him as anything except "Canadian," what other motive could he possibly have?
Although the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force was alerted and is helping in the investigation, Wright emphasized that agents do not have information that would lead them to believe that the victim was a "terrorist or has terrorist ties."
Define "information."
Hmmm... Okay, I think I'm wrong to snark about the FBI or even the MSM; there's not any cause to jump to conclusions before the test results are back (though it seems at the very least this guy thought he was making a cyanide gas bomb, given the fact his bottle of deadly chemicals was labeled "cyanide").
But I'm getting pretty sick of law enforcement and the media refusing to mention salient facts -- like that this guy seems to be a jihadist -- for fear that we just can't handle that information without going out on Muslim Passer-By Lynching Patrols.

— Gabriel Malor Ceasefire? What ceasefire?
A column of 70 Russian military vehicles, including military trucks with anti-aircraft guns and artillery, as well as armoured personnel carriers, pursued by a large contingent of the world's media, left Gori on the road to Tbilisi and turned left a few kilometres outside of the frontline Georgian town.Russian troops claimed they were on a "humanitarian mission", however, the true purpose of the mission remained unclear as reports of burning and looting in villages near Gori by South Ossetian rebels and Russian army personnel emerged.
Russia is creating a demilitarized zone around South Ossetia.

AP reported 14 dead, other sources say more.
An intelligence official in South Waziristan, who declined to be identified, told Reuters that at least four missiles were fired from across the border hitting one of two militant training camps."This camp was run by Hizb-e-Islami and there were about 15 people including foreigners there at the time of the attack," he said referring to a militant faction allied with the Taliban.
In a separate incident, Islamist faction leader Haji Namdar was shot dead during a meeting in his office by others attending the meeting.
"They were three men who suddenly stood up during the meeting and one of them opened fire on him," said Zahir Shah, a close ally of Namdar's.
I forget. Would that be Point of Privilege, or Appeal Decision of the Chair?

— Open Blog Sometimes the adage is true: When youÂ’re in a hole, stop digging. As a corollary, when youÂ’re trespassing at a police union hall trying to dig up political dirtÂ…wellÂ…
(Gabe has promised to tack on a 3,000 word analysis of the legal implications by Wednesday morning, so IÂ’m eagerly awaiting that)
”Off-duty police officers last week forcibly removed a Democratic Party cameraman from a news conference where the Seattle Police Officers' Guild was giving its endorsement to Republican Dino Rossi.”“Guild members threatened the young man with arrest and made an emergency call to 911, bringing uniformed officers to the scene. Cameraman Kelly Akers was warned about trespassing.”
The Seattle Times has the full story here, but I donÂ’t really need to add much more to this since the intrepid cameraman kept the video rolling while he was being escorted out of the building. A couple of paragraphs do stand out, though:
”Akers was confronted by three off-duty police officers, and he says one or more grabbed him and pushed him out of the building. Once outside they continued to argue as the officers held Akers in what he described as a "submission hold."
Tell me more you say?
”As Akers was evicted from the office, his camera recorded him saying, in an increasingly loud and alarmed voice, "Sir, could you please take your hands off me? Sir, could you please take your hands off of me?"
Sadly, for Mr. Akers anyway, they did take their hands off of him. But I’m guessing for at least one bright shining moment the thought had to be going through his head: “Yes, this just might be possible…it really could be possible!” Alas, sometimes dreams don’t come true.
Video below the fold.

— Ace Yes, well.
I think that Andrew Young might simply share a lot of DNA with John Edwards. That's the only explanation for this mystery.

— Ace Some British tot named Joss Stone (not even an American), who looks suitably like Scarlett Johanson (who is, as an aside, the only young white woman I'm worried The Obama One might be porking... It would break my heart).
I realize that by posting the below video I am engaging in racism by linking Barack Obama to this young white woman. But since no one knows who the hell she is, what can I do?
This isn't the campaign song (which has yet to be written), it's just an example of her previous stuff. The song is called, um, I Fell in Love with a Boy.
Uh-oh. more...

— Ace Funny, he doesn't look like a lonely pervert who needs to grade-rape girls to get off:
Is that the famous pedosmile I see there?
And, of course, the Clinton-Gore placard. Of course, of course.
This story doesn't really require a second post, but the details of it are so nut-poppin' hot repellent and wrong that it warrants it.
On May 8, according to a police complaint, Miller told a student she was struggling with her grade in his class. The student said Miller told her “she would have to do something for him,” the complaint says. Miller allegedly then grabbed and sucked on her breast....
Miller was accused of two similar actions May 12. According to one complaint, Miller told a student he would give her an A if she let him fondle her breasts. He did so and asked to lick them, the complaint says.
Also on May 12, Miller is accused of asking a student — who met with Miller about her grade — to take off her top. The woman refused and left the office.
...
On May 13, Miller met with a student about final grades and “repeatedly asked her to take off her shirt” while offering to give her an A, the complaint said. Police quoted the woman as saying that Miller said “girls in New Orleans do it all the time just for beads and that her grade was on the line.”
The story does not reveal whether these were young white women or not.
As if this wasn't all hot repellent enough, you know he chose girls he wanted to fondle and intentionally shit-canned their grades accordingly, to put them precisely in this compromised position. I'm guessing in Cecil the Academic Rape-Turtle's class, a girl's cup-size automatically became her starting, pre-extra-credit grade.
Good thing UK "news presenter" Ulrike Johanson merely audited the class. (Note The Sun's restrained headline, by the way.)
Thanks to Hollowpoint.
