Polls: McCain/Palin's Lead Narrows to One in Both Rasmussen and Gallup; McCain/Palin Out Ahead in the States
— Ace

But, as I've contended, state polls are lagging indicators. It's the national polls that are telling you where the state polls will be next week.

It's a fight. We're ahead, but just barely (perhaps a bit more with the Bradley Effect), and we could easily lose this if Obama's GOTV game is as good as advertised.

By the way, the Bradley Effect is not about racism. It's about voters who don't want to be thought of as racist claiming they'll vote for the black guy. They may be voting against the black guy for racist reasons, but actually, they probably have other reasons -- real racists are pretty proud about saying "I won't vote for the colored feller."

"Bradley Effect" false responders aren't usually racist -- they're just weak and easily cowed by out-of-control PC, which demands (as Barack Obama himself often makes explicit) that if you don't vote for the (half) black guy, even if you disagree with him on most issues and think he's a jejune naif with the thinnest resume of any major candidate to ever seek the presidency, someone out there is going to think you're a "hater."

Oh, and by the way: Governor Sebelius says you're racist, because you use racial code words like "liberal," "inexperienced," and "panderer."

Yes, Motherfucker, Yes: DARPA To Begin Researching "Casimir Force," Which Could Lead to GravBelts, Landspeeders, and Flyin' Cars
— Ace

Yes, yes, and yes! Like James Joyce having an orgasm.

Rogue Pentagon boffinry overlords have decided to weigh into a hot new crazy-science field: That of the mysterious Casimir Force, the tendency of nanoscopic, barely perceptible spacetime ripples - lapping at the edges of the "quantum vacuum" in which all matter exists - to push things together.

Casimir stickiness, at present, is so imperceptible and tiny that it can be detected only by the use of special microdetection apparatus featuring solid golden balls. Nonetheless it genuinely exists. Indeed some boffins have previously speculated that one might - by the use of a cunningly crafted sheet of nanofabbed "left-handed metamaterial" - reverse the effect, fashioning a Casimir repellor platform and so causing objects to levitate on "literally, nothing". This would be achieved using the fabled, perhaps infinite, potentially universe-imploding "zero point energy" which has been widely speculated upon.

But the possibly goldenballs-powered hover ship - or even the more realistic unbelievably-thin-bacofoil frictionless ice-rink solution - has remained in the realm of theoretical conceit thus far, for lack of backing.

Now, however, that has changed. Legendary US bonkers-boffinry bureau DARPA* has decided to fund research into manipulating or reversing the Casimir effect. It's possible to theorise that the DARPA chieftains' interest has been piqued by the implicit possibilities for levitating bakeware, which would be so useful for the agency's known nutritional requirements.

...

Sadly it appears that the levitating sky-galleon or nothingness-repellor drive spaceship will not be an early application of the new technology, which seems fairly certain to work only at the nano scale to begin with.

But we can dream.

Thanks to Arthur. more...

Obama Soundboard
— Ace

I know that most of these are real, taken from his audiobooks (remember, the guy wrote two memoirs but no major legislation), but others seem to be either impressions or kludged-together bits of other statements. Did he really ever say "Fuck an Eskimo?" I can't imagine he did.

But it's funny, and apparently people are using the clips to prank Barack Obama campaign offices.

Thanks to Nice Deb, who's pounding Obama for sending his cultists out to stop free speech.

Oh, and by the way: Yes, Obama god-damn did vote to teach sex education to kindergardeners.

Laura Ingraham to David Brooks: Drop Dead
— Ace

Not in so many words. (Link is to NRO, not the NYT.)

If you've still been reading David Brooks -- and, quite frankly, I don't know why on earth you would be -- you can safely give up this guilty non-pleasure now.

Democrats Go There
— Ace

I'm sure Keith Olbermann will be angered to tears over exploiting this tragedy.

So long as we know what the ground rules are, fine. We'll start running commercials accusing Democrats of dishonoring the dead. (Fuck that-- let's have some now-out-of-the-service vets explain how they feel about Obama voting against money for ammo and armor in the middle of a shooting war.)

Let's have at it. more...

Video Highlights of the Dallas-Philly Game
— Ace

Much like Predator vs. Alien, whoever wins, we lose.

Hell of a highight reel, though.

This is what we call a "defensive strugggle."

Check out what Shaun Jackson does at 3:00-3:30. Idiot.

By the way, this NFL.com has more clips than anyone. It's pretty awesome.

McCain: The Economy Is In Crisis
— DrewM

Yesterday the ‘fundamentals were strong’ but that didn’t play well, so now it’s a crisis.

I get the politics of this, honestly I do, but I hate this kind of stuff. Does anyone think the current problems are caused by too little federal intervention and regulation of markets?

IÂ’m not a financial expert but I havenÂ’t seen anything laying the failure of Lehman Brothers or the troubles at AIG, Merrill Lynch or the rest blamed on illegal practices. They simply made poor choices and their positions went south.

As harsh as it may seem and as politically poisonous as it is, failures like that are a feature not a bug of the system.

What exactly is McCain going to reform on Wall Street? Will he outlaw dips in the business cycle? Will he no longer allow bad decisions to be made? What exactly is he going to protect people from? Poor investments?

Next upÂ…rainbows and unicorns for everyone!

In fact, it may come as a surprise to some that federal intervention into places it doesnÂ’t belong actually might do more harm than good. more...

Palin's Favorability Rating Plunges... In, Um, "The Daily Kos Tracking Poll"
— Ace

Remember when I asked when Obama cultist bloggers and even columnists would become so desperate for positive polling news they'd begin citing the Daily Kos "Tracking Poll"?

Yeah, well. Sooner than I expected.

And who's the first major blogger blogger who gets high traffic due to his permanent Drudge link to do so?

You'll never guess.

kosspollpalin.jpg

Now I should say I don't find a declining favorability rating surprising, and I'll look to see if this is reflected in other polls. She is no longer "new," after all, and thus the bloom is party off the rose. And the MSM has launched an unprecedentedly savage attack on her. That must have an impact.

Still, it's obvious Sullivan couldn't find a credible poll showing this kind of erosion.

And I'm just giggling like a schoolgirl that he's now reduced to citing Kos for his positive poll news.

What a fucking joke.

Incidentally, he's still pushing Trig Trutherism, albeit from a different angle.

Did Sarah Palin attempt an on-the-sly stealth abortion by having an amniocentesis test which might have caused the spontaneous miscarriage of Trig?

Or... does this prove that Bristol's actually the mother?

Andrew Sullivan is once again "just airing questions." Who knows what he's saying. Since his bosses have told him he can't directly write about Trig Trutherism anymore (despite his continued pushing of this scenario in emails!), it's unclear what Sullivan is now attempting to insinuate.

sullivanamnio.jpg

The Not So Hidden Reason for Sullivan's "Popularity:" He has about 2 1/2 times my traffic -- but, crucially, he has something I don't. A permanent link on Drudge.

Thanks to Alice H. for the last one. And many people for Sulllivan's Trig Trutherism, v. 1.2.

Meanwhile, in the same day, he's defending Obama's ghoulish support of euthanizing born-alive aborted babies.

More... Informed by readers that amniocentesis now poses truly negligible risks, Sullivan makes a purse out of a sow's arse by once again... insinuating that she either wasn't pregnant, or perhaps was attempting to self-induce an abortion by her "bizarre behavior."

sullivanmadness.jpg

Thanks to Sluey.

Dear Editors of Gay Gossip Site and Antisemitic Conspiracy Newsletter The Atlantic:

Do you feel that Andrew Sullivan is observing the spirit of your polite request/strident demand that he lay off Trig Trutherism and attacking the Palin family itself?

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism treason against Big Brother Barry.

Radio astroturfing?

It is the same basic tactic.
