In Wisconsin, $1 Billion in Expected Surplus Tax Revenues Leads to New Round of Tax Cuts
— Ace

Well this is something.

Geraghty has his own commentary. The main article he discusses is from the Journal-Sentinel.

With growing tax collections now expected to give the state a $1billion budget surplus in June 2015, WalkerÂ’s bill will cut property and income taxes for families and businesses, and zero out all income taxes for manufacturers in the state.

It's probably too late for that last part to cause any uptick in manufacturing jobs for before the 2016 election. However, it may still be early enough for that to draw factory defections to Wisconsin.

Someone like Mike Pence from Indiana (another success story) would do much better. ---- I like both and both are under the mainstream radar for now as neither has given much inclination that they will throw their hat in the ring. Just like my argument that we need good senators to stay in the senate, you can make a similar argument that we need good govenors to stay in their current position. However, someone has to get the nomination. You may be right about Walker and his personality. That is why I say he needs more vetting. But there is a lot there that I find appealing. Obviously it starts with his policies and ability to implement them which has produced real results. But he has also shown an ability to campaign and fight which gives me hope that he could do it at the national level. Regardless of whether he wins, a primary with him in it would seem to be good for the movement.

117 Well, if you have a surplus that means you're bringing in more tax revenue than you need, so the answer obviously is to cut taxes.
After all, that's what the left wants private business to do, isn't it? If a business does really well then you're earning "too much" as the President and Hillary put it; so you should cut prices and take less money home yourself. Not invest in more workers or expand your business, but earn less.
Instead, they want government to spend more.

Now who's not paying attention?

When did the economy start to go Tango Uniform? Answer: when the Democrats took the House/Senate away from the Republicans who were spending like a bunch of politicians anyway (drunken Sailors spend their own money and stop when they run out). The power of the purse strings lies in the Congress, laws are passed in the Congress, the budget is (supposed to be) passed by the Congress, the Senate has oversight on all Presidential appointments, the Congress sets tax policy, etc. etc. etc. The fact that the President has seized power un-Constitutionally (this has been going on way longer than TFG; as an example I give you OSHA and the EPA, both established not by legislative action but by executive fiat) is more the fault of the Congress who allows it than the tyrant who does it.

On one hand, you are right, the media will say it no matter which person we nominate, so from that standpoint, it shouldn't matter. The Bush's were easily portrayed that way because they were though privileged. Reagan was portrayed that way too, yet he went above the media and elite and only had a degree from Eureka College. Posted by: Truck Monkey at March 12, 2014 11:52 AM (32Ze2) Well then there we disagree quite strenuously. The Obama Administration is exactly like the Nazis down to the socialism, Brownshirts, Enabling acts for the Chancellor, Gun Control, National Police forces, and even to the behind the scenes homosexuality and obsession with race. The Obama regime resembles the Nazis in a manner which no other Administration even comes close. That "Godwin's" law crap comes from a left wing douchebag who was unhappy with the real resemblance her ideology has to National Socialism. Yeah, i'd be trying to distract attention too if I was pretty much a rehashed Nazi.

There really is no reason why Minnesota and Wisconsin should be "blue states", they don't have the demographics to vote that way.  Those states should be trending "red".

The truth the Left can't bear to stand is that education, college in particular, is huge mess. Producing graduates with unmarketable degrees to the tune of 10k's is not defensible in any honest discussion of the situation.

If I were the GOP, I would use the tax code to go after them.  Roberts has basically given a green light that you can do anything you want as long as you call it a tax.

Make all public sector unions have 100% voluntary membership or they'll get the shit taxed out of them on a federal level.

257 99 I hate when the right compares The Obama regime to Nazi Germany. I don't see the comparison. It is an argument killer no matter what you say afterward. It cheapens the discourse. Posted by: Truck ------------------- The reason that it is off-putting is that the public does not understand the parallel. The resemblance of the co-option of the German press and the American press is remarkable. Hitler's string of 'declared' policies (i.e., unilaterally imposed mandates/restrictions) were no different in method than Obama's. Hitler was a socialist. Obama is a socialist. Obama's (and his quislings) thirst for power and control of the nation is no different than Hitler's was. It may be true that Obama does not have the pathological desire for world dominance that Hitler did, but he has the same totalitarian instinct. Hitler actually had real world/real life experience that Obama does not. We should, perhaps, be thankful for that, as he might well be far more aggressive. Having said all of that, there is plenty of evidence that Obama is surrounded by socio-political, aggressive thugs, as was Hitler. The Democratic party is populated with them.

What's that, the complex is being expanded to 2 million sqft while the steel work is still being erected?

266 I could see the lack of a college degree working both ways.

There's a lot of people without a college degree that would like to a President also not have one.  And these voters would probably be exactly the type that we need to attract to the GOP that we lost last time around.

And if the Democrats go after the lack of a degree (which they will), it's really going to sour people who don't have one towards the Democrat nominee.

I absolutely think Romney's biggest problem was he was every stereotype the Left constantly pushes about the GOP being a bunch of Thurston Howells, when the reality is the Democrats are a Party of Plutocrats.

Didn't Rand vote against Rubio's amnesty plan in the Senate?  That's at least worth something, had he cast his lot in there he would have bee dead to me.  Walker has also unfortunately made noises about comprehensive immigration reform as well.

I think it's hard for any Republican to just come out of the gate being against any sort of comprehensive immigration reform, you sort of need to play both sides.

I'm hoping the smarter Republicans will see what amnesty did to Rubio and decide it's not worth that battle.  I would also argue that when Bush pushed for amnesty is when he lost his base for good.

292 I disagree. Ever since at least Ford, the left has painted every Republican as dumb and dangerous. Reagan was likable, but dumb and dangerous. Bush was an unlikable frat boy who was dumb and dangerous. Bush the elder was out of touch, dumb and dangerous.

It doesn't matter that GHW was a Yale grad, Harvard Business grad, and a successful businessman. He's dumb.

So given that history, I think anyone with no college degree will be dumb dumb dumbity dumb. Every interview question will start with "Don't you think your lack of education will make it difficult to...". Or "now that you've been in the job, what are the ways your lack of education has been most apparent?" Or "Now that you've completely botched situation x, y, and z, don't you think it would have been helpful to get an education?"
Posted by: bonhomme

True, but Republicans do better in elections when the media attack on these lines.  It brings out the working class voters and it helps the candidate present himself as a Regular Guy who Cares About You.

Also, I think it would make nice inroads with Silicon Valley programmer types who could give a shit about credentials but are impressed with success.  These are the types who would be impressed by a record of achievement with no degree, so if the Dems got suckered into saying over and over 'Walker didn't even get his degree,' they would be doing our advertsiding for us.  And let's face it, they will be suckered in.  They can't help themselves.

I didn't know Walker wasn't credentialed.  Now that I do, I see that as a political plus.  Don't throw me in that briar patch.

I think Walker would be a fine candidate, if - and this is a big IF - there are enough voters in the country who are willing to vote for a president on the basis of ability and track record, not charisma or ability to read off the teleprompter. Given the nation's recent track record, you can see why I have my doubts.

I'm very proud of having voted for the man since his County Exec days and he's a great governor - but when the country as a whole votes for president like they vote for American Idol and half the country still believes the MSM's line of crap, I'm simply not sure he would do well as a national candidate.
