7 I would love any of the top 3 OLs going to KC, or [crossing fingers] a trade-down for an OL and a DL

8
Browns will take Bradford - HAHAHAAA!

Posted by: Dang Straights at April 22, 2010 03:36 PM (snr2+)

9 Would Bradford be the first American Indian drafted #1?

10 Teblow will fall to Round 2.  My prediction.

Thats what LZ just tweeted when I asked who was dropping like a stone and would be crying after the 1st rd.

Oh, and a Boy Named Suh will be great wherever he goes --even the Lions.

16 Teblow will fall to Round 2.  My prediction.

I think he might go to the Bills or the Steelers late in the first round.  He won't get picked as a QB, though.

Posted by: Slublog at April 22, 2010 03:42 PM (itziW)

17 Cable box fixed just in time. FOOTBALL! Wonder what Bradford's agent made tonight? Or what he will make once contract negotiations are done?

18 Eric Berry should go quickly in the first round.

He is the real deal.

Posted by: TXMarko at April 22, 2010 03:43 PM (YBwof)

--Some have picked the Chiefs to get him, but #5 is awfully high for a safety.

I would love to get him, but only in a trade-down.

22 --Some have picked the Chiefs to get him, but #5 is awfully high for a safety.

Physically the man is a specimen.  Hard hitter.  No off-field issues.

23 Read my lips ... Tebow will not go in the first round .

25 No way Tebow goes in the first round,he is a project at best no team will spend first round money on him.Late second early third round

26 Looks like McCoy to the Bucs

Posted by: logprof at April 22, 2010 03:48 PM (Mmw0q)

27 Lots of interesting names in this draft. One of the early commentators made the bold prediction that Pittsburgh would grab Tebow (in the second round) to simultaneously put Roethlisberger on notice and clean up their image. Interesting. I've also heard Tebow to New England mentioned a lot (they have 3 second round picks). I hang around with a bunch of Chiefs fans and they all want an OL, except the one who hates Cassell and wants Clausen.

--Cassell did well in NE with a solid line and good receivers.  At least KC should start building the line.

29 I look forward to the pick Rat Davis and the Raiders make because those picks are always amusing.

30 17 Teblow will fall to Round 2.  My prediction.

I think he might go to the Bills or the Steelers late in the first round.  He won't get picked as a QB, though.

Posted by: Slublog at April 22, 2010 07:42 PM (itziW)

I doubt the steelers will go for another kind of sort of almost qb type guy again after having experimented with kordell stewart.  I don't really know how you can say tebow would fall anyways.  Most really considered him a Round 2 pick at best anyways.  Awkward throwing motion, trouble with the deep ball, not that good at reading routes  If he didn't have a cult of personality about him he probably wouldn't even be 3rd round material.

And Bradford is screwed.  He's going to be expected to produce immediately.  And he probably won't do that.

Posted by: buzzion at April 22, 2010 03:52 PM (oVQFe)

31 Gerald McCoy to the Bucs

Posted by: logprof at April 22, 2010 03:52 PM (Mmw0q)

32

I read an opinion piece today that, in my opinion, made a good argument for how Tebow is a valuable commodity for more than (or in spite of) his passing arm. They argued that in a league of degenerates who have been celebrated for far too long, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have someone with moral fiber and a damned strong work ethic take a backup or training position somewhere.

We talk here, constantly, of the crooks and bastards in politics, in Hollywood, in our own backyards...Why should our greatest pastimes celebrate the worst of traits simply because that person has been successful in their chosen profession?

Posted by: logprof at April 22, 2010 03:55 PM (Mmw0q)

37 So far, all the "big" mock draft boards have been in agreement and have been right. Now things start diverging and picks start getting interesting. Just think of the potential millions of dollars coming and going from prospective draftees pockets as they slip down in the draft or get bumped up by some team. Must be quite a rush.

The only reason the Steelers might go for Tebow is to give ol' Ben something to think about.  I think he's hanging on a string at this point.

Not exactly a terrible thing.  Fewer licks, fewer concussions, more free time to spend your millions and get more ass than a toilet seat.  I won't believe the Steelers want to trade him until he's traded.  He's won two SBs, for crying out loud.  And was instrumental in winning the second one.

They'd be idiots to trade him.  I do think they want to give him a little something to think about, though.  Guy needs to clean up his act before something really bad happens.

Yes, I think so.  League suspension.

He must be one hell of an idiotic asshat to get suspended like that.

68 I challenge doubters to find video of ANYONE ELSE stopping Tebow short like that, when Tebow had a head of steam upfield like he did.

He ceased forward motion, went sideways and down.

I would call it a DRAW

All-American vs All-American.

Posted by: TXMarko at April 22, 2010 04:14 PM (YBwof)

69 I think Pioli believes that you can develop a good OL, but if you have a super athlete at DB, take him.  The next Albert Lewis? We'll see. . . .

Yep, yep.  He must have football smarts, because he sure as hell doesn't have non-football smarts.  I mean, WTF is he doing in Milledgeville?  It ain't exactly Atlanta.  Or Macon.  Or even Smyrna.  Why the hell not Athens, for crying out loud?  Shitloads of hot coeds who're slightly more cosmopolitan than those in Milledgeville.

I'm not watching really but probably because they don't want any of the players higher rated and don't want the hit for taking the "wrong guy" at that spot.  So they trade down for a lower number and maybe get some more picks.  Along with that they can get the guy that they want and sign him to a cheaper contract than they would have had to at their previous spot.

You know... The Jags, right now, have a problem a hell of a lot bigger than any particular position. They cannot sell seats. They've covered them and covered more but cannot sell enough in a mid-sized, fairly low-wage metro area to rid themselves of blackouts.

Homeboy Tebow would have put asses in the seats!

Why does Denver keep trading down? To have the chance to get more of the players they want?

When you trade down, you get a larger quantity of picks in exchange for the higher picks-- presumably, those of higher quality-- you trade away.

If you think you know the draft better than most of the other teams (thereby "stealing" players who are otherwise rated too low) or you have a ton of holes to fill, or you have no idea what you want...  you trade down.

In the last case, you will see teams trading worse picks for marginally better ones in future drafts... this years' picks for future picks belonging to other teams

They can try to force a deal like Eli Manning did.  Or else they can refuse to sign a deal and wait it out.  The draft basically gives that team the rights to sign you.  No other team can sign you or talk to you, until the next year.  That was a possibility with Crabtree and the 49ers last year.  So yeah if you don't like your team you're pretty screwed if you didn't want to go to them.

It's exciting just to think of all the little leaguers who go out every Saturday and bust their little asses, be it a sunny or rainy day. They play high school ball and give their hearts to the game and start praying for a college scholarship at a football powerhouse. They dream of being one of the elite few to actually make it to the NFL, much less play and, by miracle of miracles, become a great player against the greatest players in the world.

It's a friggin miracle that the young men make it this far and, much of the time, they made it through some of the worst of circumstances.

302 309 They need lots - WR, ILB, DE for starters, probably some OG or OT depth. McDaniels picked up some extra picks trading down, smart move when essentially going with rebuilding year #2 out of 3-4 that we need to tune back up from Shanahan's better days in the 90's. Sounds like they picked up a decent WR prospect with their 1st rounder, We'll see how it goes from there.

304 Brady Quinn is in Denver also. Man, I felt badly for that kid at the Brown's.

306 Hard to believe McCoy and Clausen might have to wait until tomorrow to be drafted. If so, tonight will be a long night for both of them.

307 Lions pick Jahvid Best.  Good going.  Kevin Smith's days may be numbered.

308 The only thing missing with Jon Gruden and that Hitler Hair-Cut (TM) is a small square 'stache. Guess that Chris Matthews look is catching on....with some people.

please, no hate mail or death threats, as it is just a joke

309 I didn't want the browns to take him at 7, but I'm stunned Clausen will fall into the second round.  Hi-larious.  I still hope the browns take McCoy, even if clausen's there.

Q-B eh?  Looks like Denver has a nice stack of QBs  now...

311 Dallas made a great pick. Bryant and Austin - who do you double cover? This is what Dallas thought it was getting 2 years back with the Roy Williams trade. And Roy Willie might still pull it together.

312 I like Colt McCoy. Can someone who follows this stuff carefully tell me the big differences between Colt and Bradford? Size? Numbers? Offensive scheme? Durability? Big Games? Accuracy? They seem pretty equal.

Posted by: mare at April 22, 2010 07:16 PM (X1fsj)

313 mare, Colt is shorter than Bradford and has a stronger arm.

As for the intangibles, they're probably equals.

Posted by: logprof at April 22, 2010 07:24 PM (Mmw0q)

314 Oops, I meant Bradford has a stronger arm, surgery notwithstanding.

316 I can't believe Taylor Mays didn't go in the first round.  He's a freak.

Read my lips ... Tebow will not go in the first round.

Worse. Here's hoping Tebow brings an end to the Brister-Griese-Plummer-Cutler-Orton era.

(Would the holder of ticket number 139, please come up to the front desk to claim your prize.)

JP-P is a very bad man.

He made the preseason All-American DE George Selvie look pedestrian on the field.
