The first draft held during primetime, or as it's known in Moron Nation - Val-U-Rite Hour.
Who will end up where? Will Tebow get picked in the first round?
Discuss.

Indeed. Much more so than that fatass from alabama.

I think he might go to the Bills or the Steelers late in the first round. He won't get picked as a QB, though.

I doubt the steelers will go for another kind of sort of almost qb type guy again after having experimented with kordell stewart. I don't really know how you can say tebow would fall anyways. Most really considered him a Round 2 pick at best anyways. Awkward throwing motion, trouble with the deep ball, not that good at reading routes If he didn't have a cult of personality about him he probably wouldn't even be 3rd round material.
And Bradford is screwed. He's going to be expected to produce immediately. And he probably won't do that.
Posted by: buzzion at April 22, 2010 03:52 PM (oVQFe)
I read an opinion piece today that, in my opinion, made a good argument for how Tebow is a valuable commodity for more than (or in spite of) his passing arm. They argued that in a league of degenerates who have been celebrated for far too long, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have someone with moral fiber and a damned strong work ethic take a backup or training position somewhere.
We talk here, constantly, of the crooks and bastards in politics, in Hollywood, in our own backyards...Why should our greatest pastimes celebrate the worst of traits simply because that person has been successful in their chosen profession?

The only reason the Steelers might go for Tebow is to give ol' Ben something to think about. I think he's hanging on a string at this point.

""I think the one thing that a lot of people overlook with this is where [GM] got the money to pay back the loan. And it isn't from earnings. ... It's actually from another pool of TARP money that they've already received," [ Neil Barofsky] said Wednesday. "I don't think we should exaggerate it too much. Not exactly a terrible thing. Fewer licks, fewer concussions, more free time to spend your millions and get more ass than a toilet seat. I won't believe the Steelers want to trade him until he's traded. He's won two SBs, for crying out loud. And was instrumental in winning the second one.

There is another side too. Its the possibility that Tebow succumbs to debauchery in the NFL. Then they get to blast again another christian hypocrite. And on and on with that. I do hope he succeeds though. I just don't know if he is an NFL caliber QB. But it really does show such a vehemance towards Christians. Imagine if there was an out of closet gay football player going and people were saying they hope he fails for no other reason than being gay. It really does show how these assholes are.

Oh my god yes. They need a whole new offensive line. Samuels and Jansen are gone next year. Jason Campbell almost got killed last year because of the leaky line.

Is what Denver's doing really all that ill-fated?
I don't know, so I'm asking, but if you can pick up additional picks in the draft to fill multiple spots while others hange their hopes on the big names in the 1st, it doesn't really seem like such a bad trade-off.
What are the statistics on 1st round picks vs 2nd and 3rd round picks when it comes to NFL career success?
Posted by: jmflynny at April 22, 2010 04:55 PM (uyljC)
Because their idiots. They did pick up 2 extra 3rd rounders and an extra 4th rounder, but I don't know.

OK, IÂ’m a draft idiot, for sure, but it seems like a bride is assured when she reaches the end of the aisle that the groom will still be there, whereas with the draft the bride may find that someone has swooped in and run off with her groom at the last minute, right?
Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at April 22, 2010 08:51 PM (RZ8pf)
Naw, I wasn't trying to bust your ass, just being my usual clever self. Was merely saying they put a shitload of time, effort, and money into figuring out exactly who they want. And who they want if they can't get the first guy. And who/what they'd trade him for. Etc. They don't get surprised, and if they do get surprised, somebody might get fired.

I'm not watching really but probably because they don't want any of the players higher rated and don't want the hit for taking the "wrong guy" at that spot. So they trade down for a lower number and maybe get some more picks. Along with that they can get the guy that they want and sign him to a cheaper contract than they would have had to at their previous spot.

Vin is the man. Whenever we catch his games it takes about an inning to realize how pleasantly quiet they are. I don't know how he does it, but he manages to talk when it's relevant and be quiet when it's appropriate.
I don't think there's anyone else like him now, is there?

You know... The Jags, right now, have a problem a hell of a lot bigger than any particular position. They cannot sell seats. They've covered them and covered more but cannot sell enough in a mid-sized, fairly low-wage metro area to rid themselves of blackouts.
Homeboy Tebow would have put asses in the seats!

Why does Denver keep trading down? To have the chance to get more of the players they want?
When you trade down, you get a larger quantity of picks in exchange for the higher picks-- presumably, those of higher quality-- you trade away.
If you think you know the draft better than most of the other teams (thereby "stealing" players who are otherwise rated too low) or you have a ton of holes to fill, or you have no idea what you want... you trade down.
In the last case, you will see teams trading worse picks for marginally better ones in future drafts... this years' picks for future picks belonging to other teams

They can try to force a deal like Eli Manning did. Or else they can refuse to sign a deal and wait it out. The draft basically gives that team the rights to sign you. No other team can sign you or talk to you, until the next year. That was a possibility with Crabtree and the 49ers last year. So yeah if you don't like your team you're pretty screwed if you didn't want to go to them.

As a Giant fan, I still hold hard feelings about the greatest play in Super Bowl history, the Manning -> Tyree play, being called by Joe Buck like a 2nd and 7 in Week 4.
Buck did the same thing when A-Rod tied the game with a HR in the playoffs last year.
I guess my point is, I hate Joe Buck.

But donÂ’t the players sort of know which teams are looking at them ahead of time and give an indication that they would be open to playing for that team? Because it seems like it wouldnÂ’t do a team any good to draft a player that isnÂ’t enthused about playing for them. But, maybe it doesnÂ’t matter anymore and it is all about the Benjamins anyway.

It's exciting just to think of all the little leaguers who go out every Saturday and bust their little asses, be it a sunny or rainy day. They play high school ball and give their hearts to the game and start praying for a college scholarship at a football powerhouse. They dream of being one of the elite few to actually make it to the NFL, much less play and, by miracle of miracles, become a great player against the greatest players in the world.
It's a friggin miracle that the young men make it this far and, much of the time, they made it through some of the worst of circumstances.
If that's not exciting, I don't know what is.
