— Open Blog (I bogarted the headlines with this post by accident. I'll try to get that cleaned up.)
Climate Depot's Mark Morano continues to do amazing work on the Climate Gate scandal.
He has a tremendous grasp of the relevant studies, players & data, and demonstrates his mastery of the topic and of public relations in the following debate (under the fold) he has with Professor Matt Maslin, one of the Climate specialists who has been a primary driver of AGW alarmism in Europe.
This is terrific stuff, and you should check out Morano's transcript which includes links to all the points he made.
One of the things that jumped out of me, aside from his declaration that any who disagreed with him was unintelligent, was Maslin's assertion that he'd been having this debate for 20 years.
Checking out his bio, it becomes evident that 20 years spans his entire professional life, and includes his collegiate career.
I don't doubt his assertion in the least. It is because of this that he is so determined to ignore all contrary data, and to lash out at any who threatens his viewpoint.
This is a man whose entire life is dedicated to enshrining in the public consciousness a preconcieved notion that is suddenly and quite dramtically developing significant fundamental flaws, not the least of which is the inconvenient weather outside the windows.
-Whose bio boasts that he has recieved over £22 million in grants over the past 20 years.
-Whose eventual legacy is dependent upon the institutionalization of Global policy proscripting certain behaviors in accordance with his beliefs.
This is a man who, whether he acknowledges it or not, has become wed to a belief system that is utterly dependent upon a carefully managed and massaged set of precepts. I would find it remarkable for any average person to simply step back from that faith and objectively reassess his beliefs.
Unfortunately, this isn't an average person. His arguments carry the weight of his stature as a scientist, and fulfilling that scientific role requires he do just that: Examine challenges to his theories and beliefs, and adjust them as the data demands.
That he does not now even acknowledge that there are valid scientific arguments against his dogma does not demonstrate that he is any less of a man.
It simply reveals that he is no longer a scientist. And he seems to have a lot of company in heretofore influential positions.

Experience had taught me that innocence seldom utters outraged shrieks. Guilt does. Innocence is a mighty shield, and the man or woman covered by it, is much more likely to answer calmly: “My life is blameless. Look into it, if you like, for you will find nothing.” That is the tone of innocence.

#9 Snow in Australia
The same region also had summer snow in December 2004 but apparently none of that matters when you have a bandwagon to jump on and declare 2000s as the warmest decade.
When this whole edifice crumbles, and it will, the greatest harm will not have been inflicted on the economy, politics or the media but on science itself. People will have lost confidence in pure science.

Stolen from a comment at WUWT..
.............................................
Whilst the greenhouse effect is generally thought of as heating earths environment, it is more accurate to describe it as preventing the environment from cooling. There is a critical difference.
If the effects of the atmosphere results in preventing the loss of heat, then surely the most accurate means to judge itÂ’s effectiveness, and any changes that occur over time, is to monitor the lowest average temperatures.
..............................................
does it seem to anyone but me that things have been cooling down a bit lately? If it's been cooling any at all, this throws the whole GHG shit right out the window.

I believe that confidence is the major issue because it drives the political process and public funding. If people don't believe scientists they will not vote for politicians who fund their works.
I am trying to clarify this to myself, whether I mean confidence or confidence trick. The AGW has been, and is, a confidence trick.

And record-setting cold in southern South America the past few years. I don't recall about record setting, but cold in South Africa too. Snowfall in Tokyo (the most recent one was in the '70s when it was used as evidence of the manmade-pollution-caused, upcoming Ice Age). And snow in the Mideast, including Iraq, just last winter IIRC. And, as we already know from NASA trying to cover it up, North America has had much colder winters for the past few years, at least, too.

That Maslin is inept in either Serresian category of Ju-Piter (natural science vs. social sciences, as differentiated through Kant and Enlightenment philosophy and predominates our systems of higher education), the real relevance of Maslin's discourse is that he's another fraud in a rotten system about to be destroyed by history's positive force.
Enjoy! We're clearly living through a fascinating time in history where the fraud of "science as exclusive owner of all rational thought" is now exposed and before the public.

You know, I kinda feel a little sorry for Maslin (but only a bit). He feels like he is arguing with the equivalent of a 9/11 truther. From his point of view, neither logic nor reason can penetrate Morano's skull so yeah, he just gives up and calls him an uneducated idiot. Maslin and Morano live in two completely different worlds. Maslin lives in the ivory tower world of academe where all of his friends are sophisticated liberal do-gooder environmentalists who fret and worry about their carbon footprint. Morano lives in the down-to-earth world along with the rest of us.

The studying of maps makes some think they're seeing underlying patterns and systems; a financial analog is that of the technical analyst aka chartist. These poor fools follow financial charts and trends (of a statistical random walk) and apply astrological methods to forecasting the future. Amusingly, that a sufficient population of deluded fools believes in such financial market behavior, a sufficient presence of its illusion materializes from time to time, only reinforcing the misguided. Unfortunately, the real analog is akin to the movie A Beautiful Mind, where the maps, charts and patterns were little more than random scraps of paper taped to the walls. I'm certain Maslin believes his scraps of paper and is convinced his maps are the Oracle's entrails, warning of the pending planetary incineration.
But for the rest of us, we only see a confused and deranged fool. God help those in academia who have been misled and have anchored their careers to this myth, as some of us will show no mercy as the system is dismantled.

Has there been any more news or videos of these training camps? Does anyone seriously think that the implementation of this army has been suspended?
Obama appears ready to send a great portion of our remaining "real" troops overseas, to his Ummah where the rest of our troops are being kept, and very soon. Yeah, I said it: BEING KEPT. Sorry to all the military families, but Obama doesn't want them coming home, ever, for many reasons.

What I find interesting is the debate that's going on among the physicists. The national group which represents physicists issued a position paper in 2007 supporting AGW. Now a number of them, many of whom are eminent, have requested that this position paper be reviewed and put on ice for the time being. (Unfortunately, the guy who was appointed to study it has gotten millions in AGW grants.) So some really high IQ scientists are questioning AGW. Are they stupid, too?

A simple search engine doesn't show much on this Professor Maslin, so I cannot tell what sort of geographer he purports to be. Please be aware, engineers, that there are several fields that have "geography" in their title. Political and "human" geographers do a kind of statistical survey work, and probably do belong over in that much-despised elective category.
But physical geography is hard science. It includes soil science, the geology of land formation, and meteorology. Now, those studies can be misapplied or done poorly--like engineering--but they are scientific studies, not map-gazing.
Engineers always seem to be particularly touchy about whether other professions are "science" or not. Why? You may well wonder.

Well yeah, of course. As I noted, it was just a casual aside. Like noticing his tone of nasal mewling condescension, it's just a matter of personal style, not any sort of scientific issue. Give a guy a break, will you?
I wasn't expressing skepticism at his argument that AGW is proven by the alleged existence of a flying wedge of scientists marching in consensus somewhere out there, nor the arguments that it's proven because he is smarter than his critics and has been arguing for a certain number of years. And I certainly had no intention of impugning his relevant expertise or technical training. No, I didn't do any of that until right now.

Though the CATO post is more specific to the left's link to Foucault's criticism in its application of governmentality to the health care takeover, it's equally relevant in the capitalism takeover aka AGW treaties, scientific discourse and related applications of discursive power.
That the post-modern criticism of Foucault, Deleuze, Zizek, Lacan, etc. (many of which are Marx-influenced) links most specifically to the practices of the globalist Left is most amusing.
