I haven't read the Koran, but it seems to me that the root of all this lies in their "holy" book. In elementary school, we learnt that Islam was spread in the North through violence, i.e. jihad. And there was no politically correct definition. We were told it meant "holy war", actual, literal war. In contrast while the missionaries who introduced Christianity to us (thank, God!) were not faultless, they didn't force us to convert at the point of the sword. Far from it. As obnoxious as Fred Phelps and his merry band of idiots are, I doubt anyone seriously fears for his/her safety when they are present. Nowadays, dedicated Christians tend to either be full of love for others (which follows from Scripture) or over-judgemental (mistake), but rarely, if ever, are they violent because of their faith.
