— Dave in Texas For now, still very good news.
SYDNEY — Australia's Senate on Wednesday defeated the government's plan to implement a carbon pollution trading system to fight global warming, dashing hopes of setting an example for other nations at U.N. climate change talks next week.
Oh they set an example all right. The Australian Liberal Party (conservative, think "classical liberalism") dumped their leader for supporting this nonsense, then they put a halt to it. At least for the time being.
Ah crap. Now I did it. Sorry.
Meanwhile, Dallas Ft. Worth area getting a dusting of global warming this morning.

Quoting Ayn Rand in "Atlas Shrugged".
"Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion- when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing- when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors- when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you- when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice- you may know that your society is doomed."

The Australian Liberal Party...dumped their leader for supporting this nonsense...
Yes. Yes.
Yes.
Rush was talking yesterday about the folly of third-parties and how we should not even entertain such nonsense. Quite right. Now the problem we have is this: Should we adopt that so-called purity test, or should we sit back and pray the powers-that-be in the GOP do right by us and our party?

I think we should call them primaries, and do the cleansing at that point.

Well, we can't sit on our thumbs and do nothing. If we do nothing, we'll end up with more Dodoscoozafavas. The purity test or a purity oath is not such a bad idea. Why?
We need to find out if these (R)'s are actually on our side and not playing for the other team, either knowingly or unwittingly.
Take Pawlenty, for example. We can't have a guy who is either too stupid or too worried about groupthink to tell the truth about global warming. Which brings us to the hard part: How do we get rid of Pawlenty or bring him to his senses? I dunno. But I do know we need to do something to fix this problem.

The Australians have acted stupidly.

I don't think fixing the primary process will help that much. Here's why: Let's say we have a RINO and a conservative in the primary. The RINO (who isn't nearly as bad as Scooz, so it's not as obvious) gets all the money and support from the RNC. The conservative has no money, no ads, no name recognition. The Rino wins.
Our problem is with the leadership of the party. We need to stop them from choosing these RINOs in the first place.
We got Crist vs Rubio. Crist has the name, the money, and all the support. Crist, I beleive, can win either an open or closed primary, makes no difference.

What part of CO2 isn't pollution, and it isn't warming the Earth, and we just showed you how the guys saying that it is are liars and cheaters, doesn't this fool understand? Yeah, Rohan, if that is your real name, I see what you did there.

forever?...AGW has taken a hit...now what?, disclaiming deniers is not good enough and this thing is exploding
Uh, no. It isn't.
Charles Tue, Dec 1, 2009 10:37:08pm re: albusteveit's an issue that's certainly picking up steam...what strategy will resolve this rift so we can move forward?
No, it's not. It's dying. In a week or less it will be completely out of the news.
Charles thinks this whole thing will blow over in a week. Keep warming that globe Charles.
Yeah more Charles, sorry. But if this guy is going to double down on stupid this late in the game he should be made to own this. It's like running up the gang plank for the Titanic as it's lifted from the dock yelling "This boat is unsinkable!"

23 Don't apologise for dragging Mad King Charles out for another beating.
Just because a handful of driveby dingbats do the "take the time to comment about how much they don't like to read something nobody is making them read in the first place so can we all just stop talking about it" concern trolling is no reason to hesitate.
That sanctimonious tool is a good punching bag, and he deserves it.
More victory laps, please.

Imagine my surprise when I got up this morning and saw snow on the ground here in Dallas on December 2. Why, you could have knocked me over with an IPCC report. What with all this global warming and stuff, I hadn't figured on seeing any snow before February, if at all, here in Big D. And then, the temperature. 34 degrees! I can only assume that if not for global warmng, the temps would have been in the teens and the snow would have amounted to at least a foot.
Eat it, global warming idiots.

Yes, we shouldn't get too wrapped up in Charles, and watching him melt, and let it dominate threads. There are other topics more important.
OTOH, he is a force in the blogosphere, at least for another week, and his unfounded (unfounded now, because there's now evidence) assertions need exposing.
His words on AGW are much like vacationing at one of a certain few resorts in Thailand on 26 Dec 2006 and after seeing the tide suddenly recede a mile or so out to sea, declaring that now is the time to go hunt seashells, rather than haul ass for land 5 miles inland and 300' higher. People may get hurt both ways, but one way is much worse.
Charles is wrong, and he knows it. Perhaps someone will prepare a heavily Photoshopped .gif, to highlight his wrongness.

A graph of the currently warming cult approved average temperatures with a curve plotted from the same data minus Phil Jones' special sauce that vibrates should do it.

I think calling these things a "purity test" is the wrong approach. There are some bills and agendas that are pushed by the liberals that a true Republican has no business supporting. Crap and Tax, the health scam bill, and amnesty are big examples of current liberal agenda items that should be deal breakers for conservatives.
The other thing is long term consistency. If you side with the liberals more than 20% of the time you are no conservative. If you side with them more than 50% of the time you ARE one of them.

If we assume that this "ClimateGate" is nothing, then clearly by the then obvious fact that the "science is settled", we don't need them any more, and the money can best be spent elsewhere. And all you "climate scientists" out there, I'm sorry but you hitched your horse to a wagon that isn't moving any more.
On the other hand, if "ClimateGate" is the worst scientific scandal of the century, these rascals should not be in the business any more.

Hey, anyone want to join me in a campaign to edit all Wikipedia entries referring to Global Warming, the IPCC, etc to say something like this (now-fixed) change I made to the IPCC entry:
I changed the opening sentences to read:
"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the source of The Great Climate Hoax, the greatest "scientific" scandal in world history. Created specifically to generate false data showing climate change caused by human activity, in order to justify Global Socialist Governance."

Almost two decades before President Barack Obama made “cap-and-trade” for carbon dioxide emissions a household term, an obscure company called Enron — a natural-gas pipeline company that had become a big-time trader in energy commodities — had figured out how to make millions in a cap-and-trade program for sulphur dioxide emissions, thanks to changes in the U.S. government’s Clean Air Act. To the delight of shareholders, Enron’s stock price rose rapidly as it became the major trader in the U.S. government’s $20-billion a year emissions commodity market.
Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay, keen to engineer an encore, saw his opportunity when Bill Clinton and Al Gore were inaugurated as president and vice-president in 1993.
To capitalize on Al GoreÂ’s interest in global warming, Enron immediately embarked on a massive lobbying effort to develop a trading system for carbon dioxide, working both the Clinton administration and Congress. Political contributions and Enron-funded analyses flowed freely, all geared to demonstrating a looming global catastrophe if carbon dioxide emissions werenÂ’t curbed. An Enron-funded study that dismissed the notion that calamity could come of global warming, meanwhile, was quietly buried.
