— Dave in Texas Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman says they were targeted in an ambush at a coffee shop.
Troyer told The News Tribune in Tacoma that the officers were sitting in the coffee shop with their computers when the shooter came in Sunday morning. He says investigators believe the officers were targeted, and it was not a robbery.
Troyer tells the newspaper "it was just a flat out ambush."

There was a story about a month or so back about some leftist fuck in the Seattle area who assissinated a cop.
These fuckers could put out their own Marxist manifestos on YouTube..but the media will still wondr what the motivation is

Wait, I've heard of something kind of similar. Indiscriminate killing of military members just for being in the military. It happened in Arkansas and again in Texas.
Undoubtedly this is a man-caused tragedy that results from casual contact with the PSTD virus.

This is not an isolated incident...the assassin of the Seattle cop last month was done by a leftist fuck who had bomb-making material in his house.

Only in Seattle. The Times web sites comments? Damn guns made em do it!
Oh, also only in Seattle would this line be in a story.
"The baristas who were inside the shop are "stunned and shocked, traumatized"
Yeah, let's worry about the coffee clerks being stunned, WTF about the cops? Guess they were stunned a little bit too.
Baristas? Jeezes, unemployable college grads, sociology majors no doubt, making coffee.

This is the difference between conservative and leftists, and between muslims and the rest of the world.
We condemn this act of violence immediately, whereas the leftist or muslim will wait and see who perpetrated the heinous act and upon who it was committed.
The leftist/muslim will reserve judgment or perhaps even justify or equivocate the perpertrator if it suits their political/religious agenda.

The police officers managed to take the evil motherfucker who killed the officer on Halloween alive. Paralyzed, but alive. I have faith that they will do their best to also capture this suspect (suspects?) alive, as much as they would wish to do otherwise.
We live in very scary times, very scary times indeed. Will this type of violence grow? I suspect the answer is yes.

Any chance these a-holes were OTC's (Other Than Christian)?
Always a chance, but I doubt this was a jihadi thing. If you're going to shoot up a coffee house, why just target cops? Why not just spray the whole place with gunfire? This doesn't smell like a gang-hit, either -- too open, too public, and would bring way too much heat down on the brothers.
No, this was a vendetta of some kind. This looks and smells a whole lot like a Mob hit (or organized crime of some kind). Fast and targeted. Or maybe it was just one or two cops, and the hitter didn't know which one(s), so he hit them all to be sure. It could have been a personal beef on the part of the shooter, but I don't get that vibe: generally, a personal beef ends with a personal shooting, not a group assassination.
My guess? Drug-running, and at least one bent cop who got on the bad side of his boys.*
*Or I'm completely full of shit, and this was just some looneybird on a mission from the voices in his head.

They don't know yet if the other officers had time to draw before they too were shot, they are working on reconstructing the scene now.
Considering they were taken completely by surprise, and were sitting working on their laptops, I can believe that someone could walk in and shoot them in cold blood before they had time to react.
There were others in the coffee shop at the time that the gunman did not shoot.
Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at November 29, 2009 10:17 AM (RZ8pf)
4 police officers sitting having coffee with their computers would not be hard at all for 1 person to shoot.

Not that we don't have mob here (Russian) or dirty officers, but my guess would lean more toward gang related, grudge, or a crazy person, though I would think a crazy person would have shot everyone, not just the police officers.
I don't think this is related, but we've also had some robbers impersonating police officers and robbing fast food places after they close, they also raped one manager. I can't remember if it was in this area or farther south toward Olympia.

Rum, I'm not sure about our concealed carry laws, but I think everything happened so fast that no one had time to react.
Of course training will kick in with the police officers, but they were sitting at tables, drinking coffee and working on their laptops I doubt they had a chance. They were also in full uniform, meaning they had their vests on as well. So, the shooter was obviously fairly accurate.
I don't think this was a case of the guy walking in the door and opening fire, I would assume he was fairly close to the officers when he started shooting.
Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at November 29, 2009 10:32 AM (RZ8pf)
Don't know about you,but I have several good friends that are Baltimore City police and 2 secret service agents and not 1 can come close to my speed or accuracy when we go to the range. These guys arent super heroes they are normal people with dangerous jobs. They qualify once a year in the range most dont practice very often with their firearms (certainley not quick draw tactics) and heres a dirty little secret I've known many who had to either have their partners qualify them by shooting across the lane (since they qualify side by side, at least here) or vice versa qualify their partners. (you get 2 attempts here in good ol Charm City)
Posted by: Bill in Baltimore at November 29, 2009 10:34 AM (6g7Js)
Stunningly, for as liberal as Seattle is and as much as it tries to sway the rest of the state, Wa is a right to carry state. You have to apply for and pay for a background check, but if you're not a felon etc, you are issued Concealed Carry permit.

62nd Airlift Wing Factsheet
McChord AFB has 45 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. A C-17 crew consists of a pilot, co-pilot and loadmaster. The aircraft costs approximately $200 million per unit. The C-17 has a cruise speed of 522 mph at 28,000 feet (Mach .74). It also has a global range with in-flight refueling. Its maximum load is 170,000 pounds, and it can fit two large buses, three helicopters, one of the Army's newest tanks or other outsized cargo. In addition, it features heads-up display, airdrop capabilities of both cargo and 102 paratroopers, and is able to land on small, austere airfields - landing in as short as 3,000 feet.

Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at November 29, 2009 10:47 AM (RZ8pf)
2 man team that kills only cops, no robbery or other victims. That's a message killing. Somebody is unhappy enough with the police to go to war with them, and isn't worrying about losing, so they probably have someone inside the state AG office. Gotta be drugs.

More than likely, this will turn out to be something gang-related (i.e. gang initiation).
Or it could be someone that just hates the police or someone that had a personal vendetta against one of them and took all four of them out.
I'll put my bet on gang-related.

I'm not sure why people still keep talking about 2 suspects, the latest from the police spokesperson is still just one suspect, a black male 5'6" to 5'10" scruffy looking, wearing blue jeans and a black coat. He fled on foot after the shooting.
There are at least 2 baristas and one or more customers with police right now who witnessed the whole thing so I think the description that the police have put out is fairly accurate thus far to what they know.

1) The four dead officers (or three, or at least two) were specific targets of a hit team. (If only one officer was the target, there would have been other opportunities to kill him or her with less risk.) In that scenario, there would likely be a clear motive tied to some prior police investigation or activity.
OR
2) This was akin to the other police assassination in Seattle, where the earlier crime spurred others to take similar "revolutionary" action.
OR
3) This was an act of sudden or not-so-sudden jihad targeting visible symbols of American authority. People who might have wanted to infiltrate and attack military personnel at McChord AFB decided to go after a softer target.
I am not sure where I'd put my money if I had to bet on one of these possibilities.

True Bulwark but at these close ranges it doesn't take an expert. If they were seated in a booth it would have been almost impossible for them to react in time.
The gang bangers in LA are usually either driving by in a car or running away from each other shooting back behind themselves.

The FBI came out last week and said that hate crimes were on the increase in the Richmond area. Of course the president of the local NAACP came out swinging in a press conference.
Which is funny, because the FBI doesn't say in their report who's perpetrating the hate crimes against who.

I'm not sure if race war is accurate, but there definitely is an explosion of violence here, mostly black on black though there is a rise on groups of "youths" (in this case that is usually code for black gang members) attacking innocent people at bus stops etc.
They cry about being targeted, yet 9 times out of 10 the violence rests solely in their backyard. Until we start being honest about this and stop hiding behind "political correctness" it will only get worse. I honestly don't know what the solution is.
We have one intersection in Seattle, 3rd and Pine, where there is a permanent police presence now due to all the violence. And that is only a few blocks from the downtown malls and from Pike Place Market. Never walk on the McDonalds side of the street when you are walking from Westlake to Pike Place.

If the Officer's are white, Obama will have Gibby mention the incident in the morning briefing, but if the Officer's are black, President Obama will speak at length about the tragedy and dispatch The Wookie to the funeral service.
If the Officer's are mixed black and white, it will warrant little if any response, but Gibby will speak eloquently about how America must learn to love and respect each other after eight years of Bush hatred.

Young black males commit crimes at 10X the rate of whites. Keeping them under close watch is only rational. They commit most of the crimes, so they fit the profile of the typical criminal. If blacks won't clean up their act, their act will be cleaned up for them, out of the need for law abiding citizens to protect themselves from black thuggery.

Barack Obama as America's first Black President is only symbolic as far as race relations are concerned, with one exception: by appointing Eric Holder as Attorney General, he's created a channel for policies to create "racial justice" -- payback -- as in the refusal of the Justice Department to charge the New Black Panther Party members who blocked access to the polling place in Philadelphia.

I don't for a moment believe you were exaggerating, and fully understand there are areas in every medium sized city that are dangerous. I live in Juno Beach, Florida which abuts West Palm Beach and there are areas in that city that should not be driven by white folks.
The politicos try to cover up the mayhem and carnage the underclass produces, but with dangerous young criminals on the street looking for cred or money, it's very foolhardy for people who are unarmed to assume it won't happen to them.

Pierce County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Saturday afternoon following reports of an erratic driver and an ensuing high-speed chase in Puyallup.
Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said two officers opened fire on the man after he tried to run them down.
The name of the shooting victim was not immediately available. Troyer said he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for felony abuse of a child.
Troyer said several motorists called 911 to report an erratic driver who had struck several vehicles late Saturday afternoon. Responding deputies spotted the gold-colored SUV and gave chase. After the SUV ran at least one red light, struck other vehicles and knocked down several signs, deputies performed a high-speed maneuver designed to force the car to spin out and stop. The move was successful and the vehicle wound up in a ditch, Troyer said.
But the driver tried to drive off, even as several patrol cars and deputies arrived at the scene. One patrol car was rammed and, as deputies on foot approached the SUV, the driver tried to accelerate toward them and they opened fire, Troyer said.

I'm sorry to hear about the gangbangers hanging out downtown near Pike Place. I visited a friend out there in 2004, and it was a great trip. Seattle has such an attractive downtown area, especially around Pike Place. It's really sad to hear a great story has had a downtown area go to hell because of political correctness and city officials who fear the "R" word more than the slow erosion of downtown commerce due to visitors and employees not wanting to be in a shooting gallery.

I built or worked on a large percent of the buildings all over the city in the last 20 yrs. The Wire and Homicide: Life on the streets were both very accurate. The Inner harbor area is the only somewhat safe area, most of the city you do not want to be in at night. East side is even worse but there is no reason to go there unless you work or live there.

I heard the first report on the scanner this morning and have been following it ever since. The first 911 cal was from a witness inside the shop who reported 3 officers down. The first deputy on the scene reported 4 down. The early reports were that the one shooter walked into the shop, pulled a gun, and fired 4 shots. He exited the shop, ran to the nearby car-wash and carjacked an extended-cab Chevy pickup. That's where the "accomplice" speculation came from. No one has heard from the truck-owner. They did impound such a truck after taping the doors and hood and are seeking a search-warrant.
There are off-duty cops here from Seattle, Fife, Gig Harbor, Tacoma, and Federal Way volunteering their time.

The problem in this whole western side of Washington State is that gangs, anarchists, and liberal lowlifes are not just tolerated, they are embraced. They always, ALWAYS make the news for destroying property, blocking shipments to the troops in Iraq, burning down million dollar homes (to save the trees) and generally being wastes of flesh. When the cops try to bring them in there is always some lefty lawyer there to protest that their "civil rights being violated". The City of Seattle actually PAID big $$$ to the WTO protesters who were arrested after they destroyed downtown in 1999.
This is beyond horrible. I'm hoping finally the good people in this area will wake the fuck up and see these freaks for what they really are and stop tolerating this shit. The next time one of these lowlifes stands in front of a tank I hope they have to pry him/her off the pavement with a spatula.

Others of us live in cities where we're not allowed to carry concealed and gang violence is an every day thing. It's nice you can presume everyone to be innocent until proven guilty, but the rest of us live in reality and know that if someone looks like a gangbanger, odds are they're a gangbanger.
And if everyone's innocent until proven guilty, why do you carry concealed?

322 No, I'm not a "cop in a big, corrupt, crime infested city." I'm an American living in a country that presumes innocence until guilt is proven. I'm an American proud of a judicial system that empowers law enforcement to bring suspects to justice, not to apply justice based on suspicion.
My country hasn't yet surrendered to guilt by suspicion. I live in Virginia, I carry concealed, and I'll defend my right to speak my mind and not "shut my piehole." Please be smarter. America has a dearth of idiocy. Stop contributing.

He went to a car wash and 'jacked a truck?
Not having a getaway car stashed somewhere and relying on the hit or miss proposition of a successful carjacking seems to take the pro out of the professional aspect of this. A real pro killer acting alone would have a stolen car parked in a nice legal near by space.
The team that murdered Paul Castellano and John Bilotti planned the hit for about three months. Were it not for Sam Gravano, the murders might have never been solved.

Perhaps because the damage done was to property and not to persons?
If he'd hit a neighbor with his car, then he should be hauled in. But a tree and a fire hydrant? His BAC would be on file at the hospital, so if he was intoxicated then he'll be charged with that, I'd presume.
LEOs do not need to go in to a house, guns 'ablazin', for property damage.

"Tiger doesn't want to inciminate his wife."
No one has to speak to The Cops. It could be a domestic issue, another reason to keep quiet. I believe that in most states, in cases of spousal abuse, the victim does not have to file a complaint. If the police want to investigate it as domestic violence, they can, and TW and his wife cannot be compelled to say anything.

I respect and admire the people who have what it takes to be cops. There are good and bad in all professions, but I like to think the good cops like Wyatt outweigh the bad. And especially because I live in LA and see the beatings LAPD takes not only from the citizens of this city, but its brass, I'm more sympathetic to LAPD.
It's probably biased of me to side with cops as a knee jerk reaction until the facts come out, but I was raised to believe that cops are generally good people. I'll still keep me mouth shut if ever questioned, but for the most part I trust cops to do their jobs.

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma man being sought for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers this morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health.
Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protestations of prosecutors.
"This is the day I've been dreading for a long time," Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.
Clemmons' criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed.

Paraphrased: "The people I trust are dirtbags, because they've proven to me that they're dirtbags."
Huh?

Do not paraphrase - read it directly -
"Most of those that I trust, I trust them to be self-serving dirt-bags, very reliable at that, and they earned that trust."
I trust that dirt-bags will be dirt bags.
Not so sure I can trust those that appear to be good samaritans to be good samaritans.

When Clemmons received the 60-year sentence, he was already serving 48 years on five felony convictions and facing up to 95 more years on charges of robbery, theft of property and possessing a handgun on school property. Records from Clemmons' sentencing described him as 5-foot-7 and 108 pounds. The crimes were committed when he was 17.
I may not be the best at math, but shit how many long prison sentences does one need to recieve before they lose the key already?
Oh and huck, don't quit the weekend job.

I was not gonna post the name here, as it would be prejudicial, But Maurice is the guy they are seeking. He is a BAD man with a long rap-sheet. Still listening to the scanner as multiple teams are checking any places that he is known to frequent. They are looking hard for him. It may go badly for him, as there is, perhaps, a bit of hostility from the investigating officers. Duh!
So it goes in East Pierce County, WA...
Still listening to the scanner.

I cc carry everywhere but work, because the company doesnt allow it. Through the years I've only ever had to draw a weapon once and that was at a gas station after midnight in a bad part of town.
The problem was quickly resolved and no blood was shed. However I'm sure a set boxer shorts were soiled.

Oh, my the NY Times can recall that the suspect was scruffy, but, surprise, they can remember that he is black.
Wonder why?
"Initially, there were conflicting reports whether one or two men were involved. The lead suspect was said to be about 5 foot 8 inches tall, in his 20s or 30s with scruffy facial hair and wearing a black coat and blue jeans. “Someone came in and opened fire,” Mr. Troyer said"
Here is the AP story, they seem to remember a fact here.
"Troyer said the suspect is a black male, 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, 20s to 30s, scruffy appearance, wearing a black coat, blue jeans"
What fact did the Times leave out???
Wonder why????

What do you think, genius? Should a police officer trust that the driver in every routine traffic stop is an ordinary, law-abiding citizen?
A man wanted for violating his parole killed three police officers and
gravely wounded another in two shootings Saturday, the first after a
routine traffic stop and the second after a massive manhunt ended in
gunfire, authorities said. The gunman was also killed.
The violence began just after 1 p.m. when two officers stopped a Buick
sedan in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason. The
driver opened fire, killing one officer and gravely wounding the second.

The .40 is fairly comparable to the .45. Some say it is more devastating, presenting a more brutal ballistics pattern and delivering more hydrostatic shock. I use 185 grain jhp in mine.
Ammo is a bitch to get right now though

I'm astounded that a corvette speeding south was dispatched with "information only".
One scruffy white guy one black guy.
I'm also concerned that scruffy white guy might be a captive from the car wash.

I figured that the gunman was all strung out on Keefee Olberdork left wing rants, trying to rid the world of fascists.
Seriously, this is tragic. It looks like they never had a chance. Pray for the victims and their families.
This reminds me of the 4 RCMP constables who died near Mayerthorpe, Alberta- trying to apprehend a lunatic with a high powered rifle. They at least had some sort of forewarning.
What a sad state of affairs and what a tough way to make a living?
